February 26th 2014

Dear MtGox Customers,

As there is a lot of speculation regarding MtGox and its future, I would like to use this opportunity to reassure everyone that I am still in Japan, and working very hard with the support of different parties to find a solution to our recent issues.

Furthermore I would like to kindly ask that people refrain from asking questions to our staff: they have been instructed not to give any response or information. Please visit this page for further announcements and updates.

8  Economy / Service Discussion / Support a Bailout for (MT)Gox.com on: February 26, 2014, 03:02:23 AM
What do you say, we show some support for a Bailout in the case of MTGox?
I think it will be the best thing for Bitcoin as we are in the transition stage from "innovative tech" to "regulated and trusted main stream innovative tech"...
In order to make this transition we need support from the community and the world.

Of course, on top of that... people (like me) who have funds @ MTGox would like to get access to those funds asap.

Let's get this thread a lot of positive support for a bailout for MTGox!

It is not the time to be cynical. It is not the time to say "told you". This is the time to help.

What do you say? help and show support for the Bitcoin ecosystem, Bitcoin holders and traders who spent money, time and effort supporting this business and also the public image? Everyone who traded on MTGox probably talked about Bitcoin a lot with friends, family and others helping the ecosystem and we are talking about A LOT OF PEOPLE.
If this works out, then the Bitcoin community will be stronger than ever and also, don't worry about the bail-outer/s, they will get their Bitcoin value increased, self recognition for knowing they did the right thing and also, a lot of commissions and future funds.

So please, for all the right reasons, show support for a bailout in this case!

I think this is a true test for Bitcoin and the community.

9  Economy / Speculation / Rebranding and Relaunching (MT)Gox.com on: February 25, 2014, 11:43:10 PM
I think that there is good chance for rebranding and a different team taking over (MT)Gox.com and within a month or so everything will be "ok" or even better.

Some points and evidence:
1. The leaked document was published Before the website halted trading and shut down. While the document itself has a schedule for the shut down and halt of trade to the exact time (I.E morning time in Japan, Tuesday the 25th).
2. The Gox.com evidence is pretty strong as well; I.E the redirect to MTGox.com, the name of Mark showing on the registry within the last few days and of course the fact that a 3-letters domain is very expensive. For those who don't know, there is no 3-letters combination that is not taken already in the .com space, and possibly in the .net as well.
3. The amount of Bitcoins that was traded during the super low prices on MTGox are around 750,000 btc.
4. Hours before the document was leaked MTGox had a surge of bidding coming in for $100-$110, it was about 15-20k BTC bidding war. As if someone("s") knew people are going to sell massively to those low prices. Furthermore, after the price went down and those 15-20k BTCs were sold on the way down, another ~10K were bought on the way up. This was a super unusual activity in terms of size, even for these last weeks which had huge volumes. This means there is a connection between the document and the trade on MTGox, which clearly has a link to a potential success with the #1 bullet on the document itself.
5. MTGox said that they want to "will provide more information as soon as possible to keep everyone in the loop."  Which sounds like there is something secretive going on behind the scenes that only few knows about. It fits well with a new team taking over or a major security issue or both.
6. When a company say what MTGox has been saying in the past few weeks about re-enabling withdrawals repeatedly... They have liabilities, legal liabilities, because in a future court case if it can be demonstrated that they had no way and/or intention on doing so, then they mislead the public using official statements. That can very easily help a "bad faith" liability charge to be accepted in court which would make the management personally responsible. In other words, it is inconsistent with many of the FUD being spread, while it is very consistent with a new team taking over and/or making a joint venture to rebrand and/or restructure etc.
7. The document suggested that the support of MTGox will be available during the shutdown in order to allow "customers" to ask for their accounts' history/records etc, which is of extreme importance(!) and I sent an email using the still technically working support and got verification email and automatic responses as if everything is still working in terms of support. I haven't had a personal reply from the support, but again it shows consistency with the document.

There are a few more notes to be taken, but I think I listed enough,

Obviously, as I do hold some GOXBTC I do also Hope, it is the case and that us, MTGox's customers will see our money back. I really do.
By the way, at first I accepted it was all lost, but now with all the new evidence surfacing, it seems hope is not lost, there is a good chance that a rebrand and a new team is exactly what is going on, on top of making the customers whole.

I do not confuse hope with facts and odds with evidence. If you stay nutral and just look at the information in front of you, the most logical and consistent thesis to be made is a take-over and/or rebranding and/or restructuring. At this point I would like to also add the fact that MTGox could have disclosed the (in)solvency issue many, many times - that fact they chose not to, shows that most chances are there is a very serious issue related to it, an issue that might be resolved with a take-over and therefore requires silence until the other party/ies are ready to reveal everything.

This is also consistent with what Mark said here: http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/02/25/us-bitcoin-mtgox-ceo-idUSBREA1O12T20140225 specifically this part :

I can't tell much more for now as this also involves other parties.
10  Economy / Speculation / 750K Coins have been bought on MTGox since this started right? on: February 25, 2014, 04:34:33 AM
I just noticed that not much above 750,000 BTCs exchanged hands, which means bought/sold during the price drama @ MTGox...
Is this a coinsidence or was someone @ MTGox buying all of these super cheap coins - maybe (HOPEFULLY) to re-launch gox.com or MTGox or w/e at a later stage?
Or maybe someone outside of MTGox's team was the big buyer/bailoutter?

This is speculation of course, but don't the numbers seem strange? I mean that document is talking about a 750k bitcoins as well.....

What do you think?
11  Economy / Speculation / Maybe the MTGox FIX is coming? SiteDown, TradingDown on: February 25, 2014, 04:07:07 AM
If they wanted to "disappear with the money" - why would they allow people to withdraw fiat?

12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Trades on MTGox disabled? on: February 25, 2014, 02:25:35 AM
Anyone knows what's going on?
I see no action on Gox's trading.
13  Economy / Service Discussion / BTC Withdrawal from MTGox on: February 20, 2014, 04:12:17 PM
According to:
http://coinsight.org/
There is some (very small) action in regards to withdrawals and I was wondering if anyone can report a successful withdrawal.
I know they are working on their tech/security issues but it seems there is a test of their new system going on and a queue for withdrawing BTC. When I tried withdrawing it says the system doesn't accept new withdrawals at this time and that I should try later. Obviously 99% of the people get this message, my question is..
Is there a 1% that actually gets anything out?

Please report if you had any successful withdrawal in the past few days,

Thank you!
14  Economy / Service Discussion / Problem logging-in to MTGox? on: February 15, 2014, 05:59:28 PM
Anyone else has an issue logging in?

When I try logging-in, the button changes to "loading" then changes back to "Login"... and nothing happens.

Anyone know what's going on? am I the only one encountering this?
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / TransactionID possible fix on: February 13, 2014, 04:39:35 PM
Hello,

I am not a tech guy, but I have a suggestion for MTGox and all others who need to identify transactions and avoid the TXid issue.

How about using a time-stamp and adding it to the actual transaction?

Take a fee of say 0.05 and use the time-stamp as you record it with your custom software inside the actual bitcoin sum.
So for example if its 14:11:21 February 13th and the user asked to withdraw 1 BTC

It will look like this:

0.05 are taken as fees

the transaction will be 0.9501411210213 BTC

The fees taken will be more than enough to cover the extra BTC,

Now, we have address X sent a unique amount of BTC in a specific time to address Y, and the exchange is the only one holding access to address X, therefore no one can ever modify the transaction or make a cloaked/shadow transaction to look the same.

From that moment on, the software can verify if the withdraw happened simply by checking on the blockchain for a transaction 0.9501411210213 and that is it.
We can also limit the exchange not to send more than 1 withdraw in any specific second, to make it even more unique, but it's not really necessary because of the uniqueness of addresses.

Obviously another thing to add is that the exchange needs to limit withdraw format to include only 3 digits X.XX and I think that's it,

What do you think?
16  Economy / Speculation / I think we will get an aggressive UP trend now on: July 30, 2013, 11:14:23 PM
When looking at the buy vs sell graph it looks pretty clear we met a very unique pathway back at the 100s (gox) and the buying pressure stacks up and keeps stacking up while the selling pressure keeps going lower and lower. It seems to resemble the pattern right before the jumps from 94-104 and all the way to over 200 back in April.
Here's where you can see the charts of ask vs bid very nicely:
http://blockchained.com/
scroll down.

Furthermore, people talk about the bottom, here's something I wanted to share with you, if you look at the sum of coins currently offered for sale/ask on gox, it is about 81,500. Look at the buy orders you will find that the sum of 81,500 coins for buying is at $67, which is the last lowest point.

So it seems to me, and I'm just sharing my thoughts with you... that we are going to see a very aggressive movement upwards.
17  Economy / Speculation / Buying pressure stacks up. on: July 25, 2013, 01:27:39 PM
Hello everyone,

Here's what I noticed: in the last 48 hours, the buying pressure rose higher and higher, the "above 80" was at around 30k for a week or so and now it's almost 50k where most of the added pressure is at the top, (over 90s), therefore I believe the price is going to go up in the very short run at least.

I also think this is a flipped trend and not just a short run-up, but to back this statement up I need to bring a lot more data and therefore, for now - just take it as one man's opinion.

cheers,

18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / $11,500,000 buy-out (exit) for "SatoshiDice" - the sale was done with Bitcoins on: July 18, 2013, 05:09:22 PM
hey guys,

did you hear about this news?
http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-company-acquisitions-begin-gambling-site-satoshidice-sells-for-11-5m-126315-btc/

How and what impact do you think this will have? also what do you expect from future "exits"? How many of them will ask their price in BTC? Also, what do you think about the volatility aspect of BTC when talking about big exits? For example, maybe a company that is asking for payment to be done with BTC buys a lot of Bitcoins and jumps the price in order to get a good deal, and vise versa...

Let's talk Bitcoin startups/exits:)
19  Economy / Service Discussion / BackingUp MTGox Accounts/Bitcoins on: July 16, 2013, 10:24:31 PM
Hello guys,

I might be asking a noob question, but I have been looking online to find an answer to my question and decided to ask the forum...

Let's say, for some reason MTGox website is gone... how do people get access to their bitcoins?
On blockchain you can make an offline backup and make a "paper wallet" etc.. but what happens to the bitcoins on MTGox? how do someone retreieve those if there's no more access to MTGox?

Thank you very much
20  Economy / Speculation / Bitcoin Jump on: June 18, 2013, 02:51:57 PM
Does anyone know (no speculation please) why the Bitcoin jumped by about 10% in a very short period of time?
