1  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Securing your bitcoins : Nano ledger or Armory ? on: March 06, 2016, 02:43:54 PM
Hi guys,

I have both an offline eepc and the nano ledger.
I'm wondering if I should transfer all my btc to the nano ledger or not.
Armory is great but it needs to keep up with the blockchain on the online computer and i'm always afraid the offline, old eepc, will just not boot at one point.
I have printed the recovery paper wallet, but still armory in the end is just so much more complicated and time consuming than the nano ledger.

So right now, i'm wondering if I should just transfer all my btc to the nano ledger or not.

Any consensus regarding this ?

Take care !

2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Limiting announcements for new coins to "non noobs" accounts ?! on: June 27, 2014, 10:31:50 PM
Hi,

we've seen so many scams on alts launches done with "noob" accounts that i'm wondering if the forum administration should not limit announcements to existing ("legit") accounts.

wouldn't that limit the problem ?

We really need to address this issue !

6  Bitcoin / Armory / Detailed tutorial explaning step by step the use of an offline armory wallet on: January 07, 2014, 10:43:18 AM
Hi,

I'm about to make the jump and put all my coins on cold storage using armory offline on an aspire one running latest ubuntu.
I'm having trouble finding a detailed tutorial explaining step by step how to proceed and I'm seriously worried about making a wrong move at one point or another.
Are there anywhere a very detailed tutorial explaining in detail each step of the process that would make new users less nervous ? I searched for one but did not find anything as detailed as I have in mind.

The idea of loosing my coins is really refraining me right now...

Thanks

9  Economy / Trading Discussion / When would you invest 10k$ ? on: November 22, 2013, 10:28:45 AM
I'm about to send 10k$ to bitstamp and I'm really wondering when i'm going to buy !

Right now I think i'm going to wait for another correction but there is a possibility it will not really correct any time soon...

What would you do if you had 10k$ on bitstamp ?
10  Economy / Economics / Stop orders on bitstamp ? on: August 24, 2013, 02:11:52 PM
Hi,

am I dumb or you can't put stop orders on bitstamp ?

If this is true is there a reliable bot that can do that ?
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [XPM] Who and why someone is stockpiling Primecoins ? on: August 10, 2013, 09:22:04 AM
I've been following XPM trades at mcxNOW for a few days and noticed as everybody else over there that some recurring massive buy orders are taking place.
We're talking of 3k to 10k buy orders and there has been quite a lot of them, usually 2 to 5 per day. We just had a massive buy of 4842 coins an hour ago and earlier 8k coins.

So someone is stockpiling and he's (they?) not buying cheap. Realsolid talked about it, he advised to keep XPM in the wallet and told us the exact same thing, that some people are buying thousands of XPM daily.

Now the question of the who won't be answered, but the why could ! Any ideas ?

I think it's because of the algorithm that decreases the amount of coin mined as difficulty gets higher, meaning that in time a lot less coins will be mined probably leading to a higher price even if blocks are found at a steady rate.

What do you think ?
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Securing wallets on ubuntu 13.04 on: August 04, 2013, 10:14:56 AM
Hi,

I have just installed ubuntu 13.04 and will keep my various wallets on this os.
It will only be used for securing my wallets and I was wondering what steps I should take to make sure the os is secure.

I plan to activate ufw firewall, do i need special rule sets so that my wallets work as they should ?

Thanks

They just added BTC to their list and I want to use this platform (the leverage seems interesting even if dangerous) but would love detailed explanations on how to use it.

15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [XPM] Finding the best sievesize for mining on: July 20, 2013, 09:54:09 PM
Hi guys,

one of the interesting question regarding primecoin mining is what is the best sievesize to mine.

Some say it's 1M, others claim to find a whole lot of more blocks with 4M and so on.

My experience so far is that I find a block a day with default settings (1M) on a i7 3770k @ 4400.
After reading some users claiming that 4M gave them a lot more blocks I did a 24 hours test run with sievesize=4M

I found a block in 4 hours with this setting and nothing more for the next 20 hours.
Now the randomness of the mining process makes it hard to draw conclusions on such short time frames but if we all try to keep notes and play with the sievesize we might get some intersting data to share.

So please come and share your tests with us if you happen to be tweaking this parameter.

I'm going to run at 2M for 48 hours starting now and will share my results once done.

18  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Mining bug with GTX-680 and HD 5870 in cgminer :/ on: June 10, 2013, 04:46:04 PM
Hi guys !

I really hope someone will be able to help me with this problem.

I just added a HD 5870 (ATI) to my computer that already has a gtx-680 (nvidia). Having read that in windows 7 you can install both cards without a problem
I was happy to see instalation was not a problem. The latest beta catalyst drivers (AMD Catalyst™ 13.6 Beta2) instaled without a problem and both card are recognized by windows. I did not install any SDK since it was not necessary with the 13.6 beta2 with my HD 5850 that runs in another computer.

I though I could launch cgminer with default command line and the babies do their work, but I get an error message in cgminer :/

command line to launch cgminer : cgminer.exe -o http://stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333 -u user -p pass

I get the following errors :

and once I press enter :

I searched for an answer on the forum and the web and the only solution I found involves disabling the nvidia card, connecting the screen to the amd card and launching the miner

then enabling the nvidia card and switch the screen again. I have not tested this yet but it is not very practical.

There is also a similar post on this forum but no answer was given :  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=174091.0

I can do a cgminer -n dump if needed !

I hope someone can help me through this problem.

20  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Thousands of avalon asic chips will soon kill gpu mining ! on: May 29, 2013, 10:07:10 PM
Have you seen how many of the avalon asic chips have been bought ?

At least 60k (probably a lot more)... and those babies do something like 282Mh/s !

I was getting ready to mount a 4 gpu mining rig but it's nonsense do to it now because of those chips that will hit the pools by the end of the year :/
