2  Economy / Speculation / Speculate here: Call the bottom on: April 10, 2013, 05:31:17 PM
What is your speculative guess on what the bottom will be this time around?

"The bottom" in this context shall be defined as the lowest point the USD/BTC price will hit before breaking the all time high again.

I say $ 85
3  Other / Beginners & Help / WARNING! "Free bitcoins" are not free on: March 09, 2013, 10:49:55 PM
The many sites and services that will send you tiny amounts of bitcoins are NOT free!

The reason is, that sending the bitcoins again will cost more in fees that the received bitcoins are worth.

This is because the size of the transaction you are trying to make if you want to send these tiny amounts will be massive, and thus require a large fee.

In other words, it is free to receive these tiny amounts of bitcoins, but it will cost you more bitcoins to send them, than they are worth themselves.

This means that you will lose money trying to spend these tiny transactions!

(Some of the faucets will allow you to save up some payouts before paying out, so do that if possible.)
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Many tiny incoming transactions = bad/expensive to spend? on: March 07, 2013, 08:40:56 PM
I have received a number of tiny bitcoin transactions, as low as 1 satoshi.

Now from what I can gather, there seems to be some sort of issue spending the bitcoins that are made up of all these tiny incoming transactions?

Is there any truth to this, and how do I make my "bad" bitcoin good?
5  Economy / Speculation / I predict bitcoins value on any date, ever... on: February 28, 2013, 04:43:32 PM

7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / MegaUpload re-launches jan 19th - is looking for investors on: November 01, 2012, 06:54:37 PM
MegaUpload will re-launch on January 19th on the new domain www.me.ga

On the site it says they are looking for investors to get in touch, but nothing about bitcoins.

On the other hand, it doesn't state how to invest, so maybe they do accept bitcoins.

It's not completely clear to me either, if the new mega upload will work like the old one.

Piracy aside, I do miss a place to upload large files to, for sharing with friends and family, so I hope they have figured/are figuring out a way for Mega to stay legal, safe and functional.
8  Economy / Auctions / Bizarre and possibly offensive bitcoin themed artworks/cartoons on: October 13, 2012, 05:46:34 PM
Hello,

I have been asked by an artist, who wishes to remain anonymous, to offer these bizarre artworks/drawings/cartoons on auction to the community here.

There is a total of 3 works on auction. You are bidding on all 3 in this lot.

The winner of each auction will get a high-res photo of the works sent to him (link to images in PM), and he will have the rights to use the images as he pleases. I will not send any photos of the artwork to anyone but the winner of the auction, and I will not spread the works or images thereof in any other way to anyone else, and it is up to the winner to decide if he wants to share the works with the world, or keep them his forever. I will destroy the originals, if the winner of the auction so wishes.

(If the buyer wants, I can send the original works to him via snail mail, but in that case the winner will have to pay for stamps + envelope in addition to the winning bid. This is up to the buyer if he wants this or not.)

The way it works is, that you get to see a very blurred picture in poor quality of the 3 cartoons for sale below, and then you get these detailed descriptions:

Picture 1 is a comic cartoon consisting of four smaller pictures, and one large.
In the first picture, an eager bitcoin user eyes a large Bitcoin symbol on his monitor, he appears excited about the notion of this newfound currency.
In the second picture, the bitcoin user attaches two electrical clamps to his erect penis. He is smiling.
The third picture shows the user initiating a transfer of Bitcoins from his PC to his penis, connected with the clamps. He is smiling still.
The fourth picture shows the PC monitor displaying "BITCOIN OVERLOAD CRITICAL" with sparks flying from the monitor.
The final fifth and larger picture carries the text "BIT MANIA". The monitor is on fire, smoke billowing from it's now broken screen. The bitcoin user is extatic, electric currents shooting from his body. His penis is exploding from the bitcoin overload, with 5 bitcoins visible falling out of the now mangled penis. His eyes are bitcoin symbols. His arms are flailing. He is smiling.

Picture 2 shows a character running with arms flailing towards another character. The first characters curvy penis is penetrating the latters mouth. The reciever has a red face, and is dragging his own flaccid penis on the ground. They both have Bitcoin symbols on their torsos, and the recieving character has antennas.

Picture 3 shows what seems to be a Bitcoin Wizard sporting a cape and holding up a wand. The wizard is being penetrated orally by a pair of cute smiling bunnyrabbits, whose exorbitantly large penises cross inside the wizards skull, and exit the wizard through the eyesockets, popping both eyes in the process. The Bitcoin logo is both on the wizards cap and the wizards torso.

Bidding starts at 0.5 BTC, you are bidding on all 3 images at the same time.

All 3 works are made with mostly black marker on standard white A4 paper.

The auctions ends exactly 10 days from the date and time of this post.
9  Economy / Service Discussion / Bitcoin Magazine Free Gift on: September 30, 2012, 08:09:50 PM
Subscribers to the Bitcoin Magazine were promised a surprise gift.

They have yet to get this gift.

Is there an official explanation from the Bitcoin team?

Subscribers for 3 issues (or months as they call it LOL) were promised a gift. They have sent out 3 magazines already, but no gift.

I find in implausible that they would spend money on shipping a fourth time, when they could have shipped the gift out along with magazine #2 and #3.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How bitcoin could turn into a 'Big Brother' nightmare on: September 30, 2012, 05:41:05 PM
Bitcoin is often regarded as a new era of freedom and anonymity in money. It has been generally accepted, that it leads to both the positive consequences of being able to hide financial transactions from opressive governments and over zealous regulation, but also the flipside with coins being stolen en masse by hackers and fraudsters.

The fact that the blockchain stores all transactions in public have not changed peoples attitude towards this, since stolen money can be laundered by setting up a spider web of seemingly random transactions between the criminal himself, or possibly laundered through third parties only to return to the fraudsters control before presumeably being converted into fiat or goods.

I would argue, that instead of the above being true, we could end up with exactly the opposite. Governments in developed countries could impose regulation stating that "dirty money" could not legally be accepted. It would be trivial to follow the laundering efforts, all coins that come into contact with or originate from a "dirty money" transaction are not accepted as tender and it could be coded into the standard clients, that "dirty money" would not be accepted as money at all, or even make criminal to accept it.

A central public list would keep all the "dirty money" in check. If you do not use this list, you are responsible if you end up with "dirty money" since you could easily have avoided the risk by using the list. For the sake of this argument, it should be presumed that the majority of participators in the bitcoin economy would adhere to this list.

Now this might be a good thing: Thieves would never be able to let their stolen money re-enter the legal trade, essentially making the coins virtually worthless untill the "dirty money" stamp is removed by the dirty money list authorities/consensus.

On the other hand, there are at least two negative impacts:

1. Bitcoins are no longer "money" in the same way fiat is: If you receive payment of 200 $ cash for selling an item worth 200 $, then you would never have to worry if there was anything wrong with the money themselves. Money is money, and regarded not as specific items but as an amount. If there was dirty money and clean money and not just dirty deals and proper deals, then the trust in bitcoin could drop. (I hope this makes sense!)

2. Legitimate but controversial/unwanted bitcoin holders (for example wikileaks) could have their funds marked as "dirty money" essentially making their coins almost useless, since they cannot re-enter the dirty money list-regulated market.

11  Economy / Speculation / What do you base your speculation on? on: September 09, 2012, 10:44:13 AM
As the subject reads: What do you base your speculations and prediction on the Bitcoin prize on?

Is it a hunch? News? current scandals? Maths and statistics?

How low does 1 BTC have to go before you start buying in again?
14  Economy / Service Discussion / Aren't those "free bitcoins" sites extremely dangerous? on: August 12, 2012, 04:55:18 PM
I was wondering if those sites aren't really dangerous?

The reason being, that the ads are placed by anonymous advertisers, paying in BTC.

The advertisers all know, that their visitors have bitcoins, and most likely are n00bs too.

How easy would it be, to place an ad with a link to a trojan, that could steal your wallet?

I don't even think they all screen the ads before airing them, and besides the content could easily be changed after the ad was approved even if screened.

Thoughts?
15  Local / Skandinavisk / SKAT on: August 03, 2012, 10:27:33 PM

16  Economy / Service Discussion / Bitcoin Magazine #2 on: July 29, 2012, 08:58:05 AM
So... When is the next one coming out?

It only took you right about half a year to send out the first one...

And when will Barnes & Nobles stock them, like you said they would eons ago?
17  Economy / Economics / Could a parallel bitcoin economy thrive during a global crisis? on: July 26, 2012, 03:37:46 PM
Could a parallel bitcoin economy thrive during a economical/financial global crisis?

Or do you think the bitcoin economy is tied in with the rest of the economy, meaning it too would be affected negatively by a global economical/financial crisis?

Tell me what you guys think.
18  Economy / Speculation / If PayPal was Bitcoin on: July 03, 2012, 06:52:00 PM
I've been thinking a bit about Bitcoin's maximum value as a means of international payments, and I've come to wonder how much 1 BTC would be worth, if it had the market share that PayPal has today?

Do you think there is any reasonable way to guesstimate this?
19  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Why does the standard bitcoin client not have an "save wallet" button? on: July 02, 2012, 06:05:19 PM
As the topic subject suggests: Why does the standard bitcoin-qt client not have an option or a button that lets you export/save your wallet file?

It seems mighty tedious, that you have to go and search for the wallet file and then copy it from some obscure folder...
