I speculate that it is all over now.

BTC - 2014
6  Economy / Service Discussion / What could be the first end-results of Gox BTC splitting code in action on: March 07, 2014, 09:10:15 PM
Just to keep people up to date, here are three addresses that should – if the theory about MTGox loading its hot wallet is correct – show the beginning of the end of the BTC transfers we have been watching all day.

https://blockchain.info/address/13egBJo1iB1MnaHwCBbjuKwTZ9yvrNrp5y
https://blockchain.info/address/1FggRUWBNMPrJPfq7Q6ANJGKA2cEQaqs1m
https://blockchain.info/address/1PiC3SghKeo1SgPF98HeBTRQjLrgHkJrXs

(Source: https://blockchain.info/tree/114688199)

According to the leaked source code believed to be from Mt Gox, the BTC at these addresses should no longer be split up (the split function should not apply to any address holding less than 10BTC). No longer, that is, until a new process (withdrawals, transfers to tumblers, etc.) is initiated.

Please update here if you see changes at these addresses. Also please add similar end-of-process addresses here as and when you see them appear.

7  Bitcoin / Press / [2014-03-06] "Let's pretend the government agencies are coming after you" on: March 06, 2014, 04:44:48 PM
Another Satoshi article.

One of the most striking tidbits of his character was revealed by his daughter, Ilene Mitchell:

"He is very wary of government interference in general," she says. "When I was little, there was a game we used to play. He would say, 'Pretend the government agencies are coming after you.' And I would hide in the closet."

Classic!  Cheesy

9  Economy / Speculation / Bye bye Willy... on: February 28, 2014, 07:52:02 PM
It suddenly clicked.

Of course Willy was Mark's bot.

The Gox premium was pushed into existence over desperate months, when Mark realized the btc stash just kept running lower and lower.

He was "buying" (giving people cash IOUs) coins all the time, to fund btc withdrawals, hence the "Gox Premium". No wonder sellers couldn't get their cash out!

In the end he put Willy into reverse to help set up his notorious arb offer... and fiat withdrawals improve.

Just a couple of questions linger for me:

1. Presuming the heist happened or began years ago, at what point did Mark start buying back coins to try to make up the deficit?

2. Over the last "lockdown" weeks, were any of the potential "investors" already buying up, and if so are they stuck like everyone else or did Mark give them exit rights?

Anyway I know people want to move on if possible, but I just wanted to say "Bye bye Willy".

13  Economy / Service Discussion / Coindesk report based on fake "crisis document"? on: February 25, 2014, 10:25:23 PM
I've been following the blog of Two-Bit Idiot, the Coindesk writer who broke the news of the Gox "crisis document" 24 hours ago.

He has written a new piece making vague accusations of all kinds of skullduggery.

http://two-bit-idiot.tumblr.com/post/77817993185/motives-disclosures-suspicions-mt-gox-update#comment-1260426949

A lot of the people commenting are suggesting the "crisis report" is a fraudulent document, photoshopped bullshit, or whatever.

I directly called out Two-Bit Idiot about it and said, not rudely, that I thought he knew it was fake.

He quickly deleted my comment without any reply!

Have a look at the guy's Twitter, stuff on reddit, etc. Not a lot of people believe the dude's material.

His deleting my post - which was not at all rude and a perfectly straightforward point that he could have simply rebutted - when other posts have sworn at him, makes me not trust the guy at all.

Anyway read his latest stuff and see what you think.

EDIT: I made a comment about him deleting it and he quickly put it back - but still no reply!
14  Economy / Speculation / Winkdex... on: February 19, 2014, 10:55:34 PM
Check out this new price index from the Winklevoss twins:

http://winkdex.com

Quite neat-looking, if a bit sparse on tools.

Nice to see that Gox prices are out of the equation.

I don't know if it's intentional, but the "about" section is mildly amusing...

EDIT: read Gox prices are not included here: http://newsbtc.com/2014/02/19/winklevoss-twins-launch-winkdex-blended-bitcoin-price-index/
15  Economy / Speculation / Willy Observer on: February 15, 2014, 12:36:53 PM
The point of this sick, absurdly-named thread is to gather observations about Willy the bot, aka "Uncle Willy" when he's bull, "Aunt Milly" when he's bear, etc. etc., who resides currently at Mt. Gox.

Extra points (sportsman's bet here people - I'm not handing out BTC for correct guesses) go to those who can accurately predict when Willy is going to get switched on and off.

Also, can anyone shed some light on the identity / identities of Willy's puppet master. Who is pulling the strings on this poor droid, forcing him to engage in perverse market activity?  Huh

Or is he just poorly-programmed?

If you think there is no "Willy" and this is all a load of nonsense, please feel free to say so.
16  Bitcoin / Meetups / North American Bitcoin Conference, 25th and 26th of January, 2014 on: January 24, 2014, 10:39:17 PM
"In response to these changes in the bitcoin landscape, the North American Bitcoin Conference (NABC) intends to bring focus to the divergent bitcoin community that now includes enthusiasts, speculators, business-users and politicians. To ensure hard-hitting outcomes, speakers will include Roger Ver, Charlie Schrem, Tony Gallippi and Charlie Lee amongst others.

As part of its mission to grow bitcoin use, the NABC will also offer workshops targeted at merchants, and act as a forum for vendors, exhibitors, and recent bitcoin startups to share their latest innovations and inform discussions. In addition, regulators, banks and government officials will be on hand to lead panel discussions that are light on fluff and heavy on content."

WHEN
Jan 25 - 26, 2014
Starting at 9 AM

WHERE
Miami Beach Convention Centre
Miami Beach, Florida

Anyone here going to this?
17  Economy / Speculation / Why JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon's comments are bullish on: January 23, 2014, 06:31:16 PM
Bitcoin has one of the most important bankers in the world very flustered. Why? He knows the potential and is scared stiff. This is bullish!

And what kind of criticism can he level at Bitcoin?

"Terrible store of money"

Bitcoin made more money than any other storage system on the planet in 2013.

“Used to fund illegal activities”

Silk Road was closed down ages ago. But anyway, it would appear that police all over the world prefer criminals to use Bitcoin over fiat – easier to track. Makes for a nice neat trail of evidence when a case comes to court. Come on Dimon, catch up!

"Governments put a huge amount of pressure on banks: know who your client is, did you do real reviews of that. Obviously it's almost impossible with something like that".

But Bitcoin businesses are crying out for regulation so they can get on with making money without worrying.

It is interesting to see the head of one of the biggest banks open up and expose his ignorance to the world. He's a year or more in the past. Anyone who knows anything about Bitcoin can see that either:

1. He doesn't get the concept at all.

2. He gets the concept and is scared.

I think it is the latter.

But what about his competitors? Wells Fargo is quietly gathering people as fast as it can. Why? To learn what's going on! They know they've got catching up to do.

I predict that many senior bankers with only a few years to go until their careers wind up will leave their profession without ever accepting Bitcoin. They will pretend it's bad or refuse to learn about it properly, a bit like an older relative refuses to use e-mail or a computer.

In my office there's an old guy who refuses to use a computer. Everything has to be on paper. He refuses to accept that a computer is useful. He loves the smell of paper. That's exactly the same with some of these bankers. Bitcoin is odourless; they love the smell of fiat too much!

Needless to say most sane people in the banking profession will grasp the enormity of Bitcoin as soon as it is explained to them. And they will want their bank to be ready.

19  Economy / Speculation / Special Sunday analysis for everyone on: January 12, 2014, 05:40:07 PM
Special Sunday analysis for everyone

This report is aimed to cater for as wide an audience as possible: the experienced technical analyst and the layman alike.

In order to make things accessible to as many people as possible several new technical terms are used (bold red).

What is that big thing sticking out of the bubble?

Please inspect the current day chart above. After substantial analysis and hours of intense thought, the analysis team has calculated that Bitcoin is experiencing the biggest hard-on of its entire existence. Stochastic indicators show that Bitcoin is going through the equivalent in biology of uncontrolled hormone-fuelled development. But what signal can be deduced from this? It is time to prepare, esteemed colleagues, for what Bitcoin the teenager is going to do now that it is being let loose on the mainstream.

Of course we need not get into the graphic detail about what Bitcoin is doing right now with its “extended trend” to the notorious “classic bubble” chart (pictured below).

So what's going to happen now?

Some have suggested that Bitcoin is going to experience strong growth in 2014, but after much careful study we believe it would be more accurate to posit a scenario in which Bitcoin goes an an almighty rampage, the likes of which have never been witnessed even in the sickest dreams of the most fervent Bitcoiners. Bitcoin-Godzilla will lay waste to many places, including Sydney, Australia.

But what will this mean for bears and their friends?

A secret two-year project involving 1000s of man hours and millions of lines of differential equations has come up with an extraordinarily accurate explanation of the future that awaits bears and their friends. The algebra would kill you, but to help make the resultant theory accessible to all the team came up with a visual representation of the model (see bear-shark-asteroid-explosion diagram below).

We hope the Sunday analysis report was useful to you and wish you a prosperous trading experience.

THE END
