Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Spot Ethereum ETF
on: September 06, 2023, 06:17:02 PM
With a spot Bitcoin ETF seemingly being approved on the horizon, ARK Invest has gone ahead and filed for the first Ethereum spot ETF. I suspect this will likely be approved following Bitcoin spot ETF approvals but you never know. This would be a huge catalyst for Ethereum, especially considering the lower market cap when compared to BTC. Thoughts?

Other / Politics & Society / Canada censoring the internet?
on: August 08, 2023, 02:19:07 PM
I have some Canadian friends that are telling me they are having news websites blocked when trying to browse the internet. They even sent me screenshots as I was in disbelief. It’s starting to make sense why Elon wanted Twitter so badly. I think memes are likely to be how news starts being shared in order to avoid government censorship. Anyone else experiencing the effects of Canada going full China on internet censorship?

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Promotional Material

on: August 02, 2023, 09:20:20 PM
I saw this cartoon and thought it was pretty funny. It had me wondering if a real flyer like this existed that people could print out and put up in places. I’ve seen threads about stickers, so I’m sure there must be a thread with printable promotional material. Anybody got a link or maybe someone wants to help create cool printable stuff like this (talking about the flyer in the cartoon, not the cartoon itself).

Economy / Collectibles / Burnt Hair Perfume

As a fan of Elon’s companies who loves everything they’re doing to get ready for life on Mars, I never miss an opportunity to show my support. This product supporting the Boring Company, which is no doubt preparing to build underground on the red planet to shield from radiation. The product being burnt hair. It smells as described, but it’s oddly a good smell. Anybody else grab one of these?

Economy / Speculation / [POLL] Should the Fed stop raising interest rates?
on: June 14, 2023, 05:53:56 PM
With the Fed set to make an announcement today on the future of their overnight rate, investors are all watching and waiting to see how the market will react. What do you think the Fed should do? Should they continue raising rates until inflation is completely squashed and the job market sees an increase in unemployment to above desired levels? or should they stop raising rates out of fear of sending the economy into a recession and causing another real estate crash? Maybe you think they should get ahead of a recession and lower rates to keep the economy booming? What do you think?

Economy / Reputation / 12 Years on Bitcointalk Today!
on: June 04, 2023, 04:08:08 PM
I just noticed the little birthday icon on my profile indicating that today is the day I signed up for Bitcointalk! Pretty amazing really that it's been a dozen years now. I guess that sort of makes me one of the old guys around here. It's been a pretty crazy ride, but I'll admit it hasn't been all that surprising. 12 years ago I signed up for this crazy forum to learn more about this new decentralized currency with a limit on the number of coins that can be produced. I wanted to take part immediately and went from trading things for BTC, to mining, to helping others trade, then helping others mine who aren't able (through my community organization), and eventually creating cool products. It's been an amazing ride with a lot of interesting speedbumps along the way, but still we roll on. Some things I've done over the last 12 years that I think are cool... Other / Politics & Society / Twitter revenue sharing with content creators
on: April 13, 2023, 10:10:59 PM

https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1646564065853194241Elon just tweeted that: “For the next 12 months, Twitter will keep none of the money. You will receive whatever money we receive, so that’s 70% for subscriptions on iOS & Android (they charge 30%) and ~92% on web (could be better, depending on payment processor). After first year, iOS & Android fees drop to 15% and we will add a small amount on top of that, depending on volume. We will also help promote your work. Our goal is to maximize creator prosperity. At any point, you can leave our platform and take your work with you. Easy in, easy out.” This is a pretty awesome move to get good content on the platform. Seemingly a direct shot at YouTube. Will you be offering subscriptions to your followers? You need to be 18+, tweet a lot, & have 500 followers… I’ve never really cared about follower count, but it would be cool to participate in this program and start making some cool content. Feel free to post your twitter handle if you are planning to create subscription content. Mine is @NastyMining

Economy / Speculation / [POLL] MtGox distribution, early payment or full payment?
on: March 28, 2023, 09:45:14 PM
With the mtgox distribution constantly being pushed back, it’s possible they aren’t getting enough people registering for payment distributions to meet their expectations. This leads me to believe the final BTC payout if you wait could be much higher than the early lump sum payout. Would you wait and try to get the most BTC possible or select early payout to get this behind you?

[POLL] Is Biden responsible for the current high inflation?
With Joe Biden now claiming that inflation was already high when he took office (it was 1.4%) and trying to blame Donald Trump for the reason why inflation got out of control, I wonder how many people actually believe this. I could go on and on about all the Federal Reserve officials who quit their jobs when the Biden administration wouldn't follow their advice about how to avoid an inflationary mess. It doesn't matter what the facts are though. It matters what the people believe. So, what do you believe? Is their misinformation campaign working? Vote with your belief and let's see.

Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] S17 Pro - 0.02 BTC obo
on: January 21, 2023, 08:56:01 PM
Anyone interested in purchasing an S17 Pro? Feel free to reach out to me via PM with an offer. I'm shipping from in the US, so I'd like to keep to shipping in the continental US. Some details about the machine... It was just returned from a repair facility with documentation that it has been tested and is working. It ships without the cables, so you will need those. I'm looking to accept Bitcoin and can ship the same day if you so desire. We can use escrow if you pay for it, or you can pay first and I can ship (check my trading history). Let me know if you have any other questions.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / [POLL] Will BNB crash? Will Binance go bankrupt?
on: December 16, 2022, 12:38:07 AM
CZ’s interview today seemed as though it was an admission of guilt that Binance does not have customer funds available to meet the needs of their customers. Just another FTX situation, but Binance had more liquidity to try and stay afloat. Tokens are now coming out and saying that Binance made them put up 200K BNB tokens they couldn’t withdraw in order to obtain a listing. Suddenly the cat is out of the bag. Binance is naked and BNB is worthless as a stand-alone token. This may just be my opinion, what do you think?
I’ll be surprised if Binance isn’t below $100 in 90 days…
My takeaway from this… The more BTC people withdraw from exchanges, the higher the price of BTC will go.

Economy / Gambling discussion / [POLL] Using AI to predict outcomes
on: December 09, 2022, 04:11:37 AM

ChatGPT is all the rage at the moment. I’ve seen that people are asking it to predict sporting events. Would you leave gambling decisions up to artificial intelligence? Do you see any potential drawbacks for outsourcing your bets to a software program? Has anyone here tried this yet? Do we need someone to put together a thread of ChatGPT predictions to see how accurate they are? Any other thoughts?

Economy / Speculation / Gemini Earn Program Pausing Withdrawals
on: November 16, 2022, 03:02:10 PM
Gemini has posted that their Earn program partner Genesis Global Capital LLC has paused withdrawals. This seems like the latest domino to fall. Make sure to get your funds off of exchanges. Here’s their tweet thread on the situation. https://twitter.com/gemini/status/1592873279232278532Gemini has been saying everything was fine right up until this pausing of withdrawals, showing once again that when the exchange says everything is fine, get your money out ASAP! Don’t wait around for the next exchange to “pause” withdrawals.

Economy / Goods / [WTB] 1 Share of BRK-A Stock for 1 Bitcoin (Berkshire Hathaway Inc.)
on: October 07, 2022, 07:13:22 PM
When I started my investing journey, you could buy a share of Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway for around $69,000. At the time it seemed an amount so high that there would be a small chance I'd ever be able to own one. It was the holy grail of stocks. Since then it has risen more than 5x to it's current value. However, seeing Bitcoin's meteoric rise and bright future makes me think that purchasing a BTC for below $20,000 now might in the future lead to being able to trade it for a share of BRK-A (currently around $400K). The day that this happens, I intend to swap 1 BTC for 1 share of BRK-A. I thought I'd open a thread to look back on this journey as well as open the floor up to others to discuss this idea and the potential for this to happen someday. I think 2025 would be the absolute earliest and even then, 2029 seems more likely. BRK-A: https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/BRK-ABitcoin: http://bitcointicker.co/October 7th, 2022: BRK-A: $405,668 Bitcoin: $19,470 Difference: ($386,198)

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Ravencoin 'Security' names... Are these traded?
on: September 15, 2022, 08:52:00 AM
I know that Ravencoin was supposed to be a securities platform of sorts and was designed for users to be able to purchase a ticker symbol. My question is if these are actually traded anywhere? Is anyone actually using these for anything? With Ravencoin's sudden rise in popularity from ETH 2.0's PoW demise, it seems like people might be looking into these names and maybe starting to create some projects using them. Is there a central place where this sort of activity is taking place?

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / [POLL] After the merge the price of Ethereum will go?
on: September 14, 2022, 12:16:05 AM
As we approach the Ethereum merge (approximately 27 hours away) I'm curious what the community thinks the price will do. Do you think the merge will cause a lot of selling as people look to book profits, or will people buy up all they can to enjoy the higher staking %? Who knows what will happen. Maybe this community? Be sure to vote which way you think it will go, even if you're not sure.
