7  Other / Off-topic / What are you thankful for? on: November 22, 2018, 04:59:09 AM
While Thanksgiving might be an American holiday (letís not debate the savagery of it), itís never a bad idea to take a minute and say what you are thankful for. Here are a few things Iím thankful for.

Iím thankful that I have a healthy happy family and that I have the time to take care of loved ones in their twilight years. Iím thankful for fresh air to breathe, clean water to drink, and a stable roof over my head (same one for more than 10 years now). Iím thankful to have a shared interest with so many people around the entire world, and a platform to discuss it. Iím thankful for the good and bad experiences Iíve had to learn from.

I hope others are able to appreciate the blessings they have and are able to give some thought on how to share those blessings with those who may be less fortunate either in our personal lives or complete strangers.

I would love to hear the things you are thankful for and hope that speaking of them brings some joy to your day.

Stay Blessed

9  Economy / Scam Accusations / Hector9 - Wannabe PayPal scammer on: November 19, 2018, 11:43:17 PM
Hector9 tried to get me to help him scam users with PayPal trades by providing useless escrow services. When I refused and asked him to stop messaging me, he continued. I then blocked him, so he left me negative trust to try and bully me into helping him scam (since removed and replaced with a new one so I took a screenshot this time). Now heís making up some story about thinking I wasnít a trustworthy escrow... Then why be so insistent upon me providing escrow if thatís the case?

He has provided a screenshot of my reply above in another thread.  Apparently my response makes me a "Very disgusting person."  For those who don't want to click the link, it was this:

I wonít escrow PayPal. It provides no protection. Good luck. Donít reply back explaining how you wonít charge back. I donít care.

11  Economy / Reputation / Should the Politics and Society section have an unbiased Moderator? on: November 11, 2018, 01:04:35 AM
Was wondering how long it would take Flying Hellfish to abuse his moderator privileges to censor comments he disagrees with. Was easier than I thought to make it happen.

The P&S section deserves an unbiased Moderator.

I am biased like all humans, good luck finding one that isn't

EDIT: Subject changed from the title that Flying Hellfish gave it.
12  Other / Politics & Society / Jim Acosta karate chops internís arm & loses White House press pass on: November 08, 2018, 09:04:40 AM
Imagine ignoring the President telling you, ďThatís enoughĒ and forcefully denying a young woman White House staff member trying to do her job. Then complaining about it all over the media when youíre not allowed back.

13  Other / Meta / Thoughts on Moderators moderating their own topics? on: November 05, 2018, 05:24:05 PM
I'm curious what people think about Moderators moderating their own threads.  If they would like this ability, should they start "Self-moderated" threads like everyone else?  If they don't and have issues with posts in their threads, should they report them like everyone else to allow another Moderator to address the situation or is it okay to self-moderate threads without the warning?  Seems like a conflict of interest situation.  Should there be rules in place to address this?
14  Other / Meta / Merit giving mistake. Page reload resulted in multiple merits given. Suggestion. on: October 19, 2018, 11:39:18 PM
I gave the below linked post a merit, closed the merit window, and began responding to it.  While replying to the post I made a mistake and hit cmd+z to undo it.  The browser for whatever reason reopened the merit window and credited the user with another merit.  This happened twice, resulting in the user getting 3 merits when I only meant to give one.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3054320.msg45540248#msg45540248

I bring this up because I wouldn't have figured the merit system could have additional merits sent from a page reload like that.  Definitely my mistake, but maybe this sort of user error could be worked out of the system in the future somehow.  Off the top of my head, a rule where you cannot send merit consecutively to the same post (i.e. you can send any number of merits to a post, but cannot then send that same post more merit without first meriting another post).

Thoughts?

17  Other / Meta / My only gripe with the merit system... Edits aren't addressed. on: September 20, 2018, 04:26:54 AM
I've noticed that if I have left someone a merit immediately after their post, only to have them edit it to something that may not be as agreeable of an opinion within the (10 minute?) time frame, there is no evidence at all the new edited post wasn't the originally merited opinion.

I think it might be a nice feature if merits given to posts had some soft of distinguishing feature if the post has been edited after the merit has been left, even if it was within the time frame to not show an edit.  Perhaps the merit distributor's name could be changed to a different color?
