81  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Either the Kraken CEO is fooling with us or... on: January 24, 2015, 02:30:07 AM
...this is for real. I'm still deciding which. But he says that Mt. Gox users should be compensated by the end of 2015 if you go by this article. http://thecoinfront.com/kraken-ceo-jesse-powell-mt-gox-users-to-be-paid-out-by-end-of-2015/
82  Economy / Services / HireCrypto Launch Party Fundraiser / Services Pre-Sale on: January 21, 2015, 06:49:16 PM
What's going to make HireCrypto different from every other cryptocurrency-related jobs board? Right this minute, I can tell you what it's not going to be. The aim is to be something other than an abandoned website full of scams or a lazy-man's jobs board that scrapes search results from other websites. It's going to be sort of like Freelancer for people who have gotten sick of the high commission rates of other freelancing sites and Paypal takes its chunk too. The whole point of using cryptocurrencies is to put more of the money you earn in your pocket, right? HireCrypto can be the site you've been looking for with a little bit of a boost from people just like you.

What We'll Do

Site Development and Launch: The HireCrypto site sort of looks like an ordinary Wordpress installation with a few polls right now. I'm in talks with some Wordpress plugin developers for a customized Freelancer-like plugin that will work with several cryptocurrencies.

Promotion: An active community is critical for the success of a jobs board like this one. We are aware that we are basically competing with Freelancer, so we intend to put in a serious marketing effort that may include hiring cryptocurrency freelancers to create promotional materials for us.

Just General Fun: If you've ever thought that Dogecoin is the only cryptocurrency that doesn't take itself too seriously, you're probably right. The Dogecoin community is having fun and that's why Dogecoin refuses to play dead for very long at a time. We intend to take a page out of their book and host the occasional event that's just meant to be fun (and give you a reason to keep coming back).

What You Get

Easy first access to the site. When we're ready to launch, supporters will receive emails with all the information they need to redeem their rewards. These rewards include codes for job listings or extra bids.

More currency in your wallet. If you're a freelancer, we won't charge high commission rates for connecting you to clients. If you're hiring, our freelancers won't be forced to jack up their rates by a jobs board that basically just sits there and runs algorithms in the background. That means you keep more of your favorite currency and everybody's happy.

The domain is purchased, we have a logo and a positive response to the idea of a legitimate freelancing site over on Bitcointalk, and the polls indicate that freelancers like the idea of a site that hasn't gotten so large and cluttered that potential employers have trouble finding them and doesn't charge huge commissions. Let's do this. You can support the fundraiser here: https://www.coinfunder.com/project/view/id/1714
83  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Rep. Stockman To Introduce First Bitcoin Bill on: January 21, 2015, 01:54:36 AM
The Virtual Currency Tax Reform Act would authorize the Internal Revenue Service to treat virtual currencies as currency for federal tax purposes. http://www.forbes.com/sites/perianneboring/2014/04/08/breaking-rep-stockman-to-introduce-first-bitcoin-bill/
84  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What are some reasons you think Bitcoin will grow in 2015? on: January 20, 2015, 06:55:18 PM
I'm keeping my eyes out for new ventures into the cryptocurrency world. But it would be interesting to hear what you expect of Bitcoin in 2015 (and don't bother commenting if you're just going to troll).
85  Economy / Service Discussion / Fundraising campaign for my new Freelancer-like site is up and running. on: January 14, 2015, 07:45:45 PM
HireCrypto is going to be the new Freelancer-like site that you've heard me talk about not that long ago. I think this could really do well for plugging that hole I've noticed, but like most good things in life and business, it'll need funds to really get up and running. So I started an Indiegogo campaign with perks like first crack at features I plan to include in the site.

87  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Pey is giving away 3D-printed Bitcoin terminals for free. on: January 12, 2015, 04:49:03 PM
OK, this may come off as an unabashed promotion of 3D printing, but Pey is putting its additive manufacturing machines to work to increase merchant adoption of Bitcoin in Hanover, Germany. Basically, merchants wanted an easy way to accept Bitcoin that wouldn't be awkward to use and would protect them from price fluctuations, so Pey created a terminal that did both. http://venturebeat.com/2015/01/12/pey-is-3d-printing-bitcoin-terminals-and-giving-them-away-for-free/
88  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Ross Ulbricht faces a potential life sentence starting tomorrow. on: January 12, 2015, 03:56:53 PM

After spending the past year in a Brooklyn federal prison, Ross Ulbricht will finally head to a New York City court on Tuesday where prosecutors will try to prove he is the mastermind behind the anonymous billion-dollar online drug market Silk Road.

89  Economy / Services / Needed: Short Youtube video for a fundraiser. on: January 07, 2015, 04:41:56 PM
I just need a short 30-second video that can be uploaded to Youtube that will describe HireCrypto.com as a Freelancer-type site set for launch that will feature the following elements:
  • Multiple cryptocurrencies
  • Low commission fees -- keep more cryptocurrencies in your pocket
  • Early access for supporters -- be among the first to post jobs or get extra bids[/li
PM me with details including your bid. This is for a crowdfunding effort.
90  Economy / Service Announcements / Working on getting my jobs site launched... on: December 27, 2014, 05:36:52 AM

91  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Question for people who have used Dogeparty... on: December 26, 2014, 02:39:45 AM
Basically I'm talking about this site here: http://www.dogeparty.io/

Anyway, I'm seriously considering using it to raise startup funds for a new online (crypto-based) business and a few things are unclear:

1) How can I sell the tokens I create? Can I do that on an outside blog, or through the Dogeparty system?
2) How can I deliver the tokens in a way that I get no complaints that buyers didn't receive them?
3) How can the tokens be easily redeemed for the services I plan to provide on my website?

Any help would be appreciated.
92  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Question for people who use Bitcoin web hosts... on: December 25, 2014, 02:12:30 AM
If you've set up a website with one of those hosts that accept Bitcoin payments, how do they stack up as far as reliably staying up most of the time and handling a fair amount of traffic? Reason I ask is that I'm starting to serious about that jobs board idea I posted about in another thread.
93  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How to drive the price of an altcoin without the pump and dump. on: December 24, 2014, 01:16:29 AM
Sell stuff for your favorite obscure cryptocurrency. Something new I found that looks cool called Bidcoind. It runs on primarily MarineCoin, but you can choose from about a bazillion altcoins to sell your old junk hidden treasures for. http://www.bidcoind.com/index.php
94  Other / Off-topic / We should be supporting this. on: December 22, 2014, 11:24:50 PM
I know you're all going to be cranky sourpuses about this, but we all should be supporting This Thunderclap so we can get both people and cryptocurrencies off this lame planet. Tongue https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/20278-meet-the-mars-one-candidates?locale=en

97  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What would people think if I created a Bitcoin jobs board of my own? on: December 18, 2014, 01:01:00 AM
Just a random thought, guys, but I may get serious about this. Actually, I'm looking at ways I could pull this off using Wordpress plugins right now. I've been tempted to create a jobs board that's sort of like Freelancer for Bitcoin because, quite frankly, about half of what I've seen is like looking at a train wreck full of scams and places that redirect you to other sites that make you jump through hoops to apply.
98  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / I spent my Bitcoin. on: December 16, 2014, 05:32:23 PM
Was having a tough time deciding which gift card I wanted on eGifter, but I selected a $148.82 Amazon.com card. Nice workaround for the fact that Amazon doesn't accept Bitcoin yet and of course I got triple points from eGifter for doing that. Don't worry guys; I'm not giving up on Bitcoin. I'm just handling a few changes in my life that warranted the purchase of a gift card.
99  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Cryptocurrencies Still A "Weird Libertarian Thing" on: December 13, 2014, 05:03:51 PM
Got into a discussion on Facebook about cryptocurrencies and the person I was going back and forth with about it called cryptocurrency a "weird Libertarian thing." Got a laugh out of me. Really it's only "weird" because a lot of people still aren't used to the idea that they can just carry their money around on their tablet instead of keeping it in the bank or in a leather wallet. I got a good blog entry out of it, anyway. http://ablogaboutnothinginparticular.com/?p=3467
