2  Economy / Speculation / Gox is at $1,000 - will it ever go lower again? on: January 05, 2014, 06:57:23 PM
Discuss why/why not.

For me personally - I think we are in the early stages of a rally to an ATH. I'm not sure though how much this revitalized BTC is depending on that good news from Facebook.

Thoughts?
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Buying 1 BTC worth of LTC on: January 04, 2014, 05:05:25 PM
Hullo thar.

I'm looking to add to my stash of Litecoin.

Going by BTC-e's current fiat prices, I'd like to receive 32 LTC in exchange for 1 BTC, which I think is a pretty good deal at the moment.

If you want some details or (knock on wood) to haggle for a deal, feel free to PM me. I'll try to get back to you as soon as I can.

Thanks!

4  Other / Beginners & Help / So, how *exactly* does the trust system work? on: December 29, 2013, 05:04:34 AM
I figure this would best be put under the noob section.

I get that it is nothing but a record of a user's trades to be taken for what it is. It's not a magic barometer that means you won't lose your Bitcoins when dealing with this person.

But what does it all mean?

For example, on my profile I'm looking at this:

0: -0 / +2(0)

What does each number mean? It looks like Total Trust: -negative deals \ +positive deals (mystery number)

Furthermore, what does it take to make that sumbitch green and legitimize my presence as a trader? I'm guessing my account needs to be more than 2 weeks old, but I've completed a couple transactions with members here and it never gets any easier.

Any and all details you can elucidate for me on the trust feature would be appreciated.

Many thanks.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Buying 30 LTC for 1 BTC on: December 26, 2013, 01:50:57 AM
I'd like to try my hand at LTC.

Given the current exchange rates (USD, BTC-E charts) I think 30 LTC for 1 BTC is a decent deal.

Please get my attention here or PM me for details.

I haven't tried my hand at Peer 2 Peer transfers yet (I stick to online banks like Coinbase) so I'd kinda prefer to get my precious LTC first from a trusted forum member... hope that's not a big deal.  Tongue

Thanks!

6  Economy / Speculation / Predict some big monthly events for BTC in 2014 on: December 25, 2013, 09:48:15 PM
Just some fun speculation - I'm trying to guess a Bitcoin event for every month of the year.

January -
February - U.S. debt ceiling debates spark a modest rise in price.
March - 2nd Q of the U.S. Fiscal Year - Overstock.com begins to accept BTC payments.
April -
May - Some weirdo will name his kid after Bitcoin.
June - By this time Coinbase will have accepted (or announced they will accept) LTC, opening the door for other altcoins and raising awareness.
July -
August -
September -
October -
November -
December -

Try and fill in the blanks!

Will be updated as input comes in.
7  Bitcoin / Press / [Week of 12-18-13 to 12-25-13] WWE Superstar Kane on BTC on: December 25, 2013, 02:58:20 PM
When I was a kid, my favorite wrassler was a masked 7-foot, 330 pound monster named Kane.

Turns out Kane's real name is Glenn Jacobs, and he's a very thoughtful, very intelligent guy. He is also very aware of Bitcoin.

He has started publishing articles/giving interviews about Bitcoin among other libertarian-type stuff... I am amazed someone whose job it was to smash other men with steel chairs is so articulate.

Just wanted to introduce myself -

I'm relatively new to the whole Bitcoin thing, but have been lurking here several weeks and have found the intelligence of this community as a whole to be enlightening. Thought it might be fun to participate myself.

I will start by saying that in technical terms, I am everything you hate.

  • I got into BTC during the November rise and started day-trading.
  • I use Coinbase.
  • I invest in BTC almost purely as a speculator and am waiting to become one of the new "wealthy elite" by selling them off.
  • I am bearish.

That being said, as a web developer and programmer I am fascinated by the mechanisms behind BTC and the community that has adopted its use - and I am in it for the long haul. I have about 5 BTC I intend to keep long-term, and would never be opposed to hearing you wise early-adopters out on something BTC-related.

So ...

Sup?
