The Bank for International Settlements has issued recommendations for the regulation, supervision and oversight of global stablecoin arrangements.

"The Bank for International Settlements has proposed recommendations for regulating global stablecoins.

In a summary of recommendations issued on Thursday, the BIS described GSCs as widely adopted stablecoins with a potential reach and use across multiple jurisdictions. "A GSC could become systemically important in and across one or many jurisdictions," the BIS said. "

The document is small and worth reading. And in practice, such recommendations will soon become mandatory. And stablecoins will have the same requirements as international currencies, which means total KYC and all other delights.

24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Pig-butchering’ crypto scams have tricked investors out of more than $75 billion on: March 01, 2024, 10:37:56 AM
https://fortune.com/2024/02/29/pig-butchering-crypto-scams-nab-over-75-billion-use-tether-binance-says-study/
"Pig-butchering scammers have likely stolen more than $75 billion from victims around the world, far more than previously estimated, according to a new study.

John Griffin, a finance professor at the University of Texas at Austin, and graduate student Kevin Mei gathered crypto addresses from more than 4,000 victims of the fraud, which has exploded in popularity since the pandemic. With blockchain tracing tools, they tracked the flow of funds from victims to scammers, who are largely based in Southeast Asia.

Over four years, from January 2020 to February 2024, the criminal networks moved more than $75 billion to crypto exchanges, said Griffin, who has written about fraud in financial markets. Some of the total could represent proceeds from other criminal activities, he said.

“These are large criminal organized networks, and they’re operating largely unscathed,” Griffin said in an interview."

26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / My thoughts on the latest news about TON on: February 29, 2024, 08:19:31 AM
I think you've all heard this news
https://techcrunch.com/2024/02/28/telegram-is-launching-ad-revenue-sharing-next-month-using-toncoin/

Previously, Telegram and Pavel Durov refused the TON token and said that this was a project in which the Telegram team was not involved. TON and SEC had a very tense relationship.

Now Paved Durov will pay rewards with “other people’s tokens” Grin

I see 2 interesting points:
1. In some countries it is prohibited to make mutual payments in cryptocurrencies.
2. What does dada Gary Gensler have to say about this?

American banks also want to make money from this. And now Coinbase holds a huge portion of the cryptocurrencies for the spot Bitcoin ETF.

I don’t know whether American banks can act as a custodian for Bitcoin or what licenses are needed to do so, but an increase in custodial custodians will increase the security of storing cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin ETF is not the last cryptocurrency ETF in the US.

Furthermore, the FCA also said that firms are making claims about the safety, security and ease of use of crypto services without supporting evidence or highlighting risks."

38  Other / Beginners & Help / SlowMist reports 80% of X comments related to phishing software on: February 02, 2024, 04:38:08 PM
https://bitcoinethereumnews.com/tech/slowmist-reports-80-of-x-comments-related-to-phishing-software/
"Cybersecurity company SlowMist analyzed social network X for malicious content.

Scam sleuths came to the conclusion that over 80% of comments under publications of well-known projects are related to phishing software.

In a report by SlowMist, scammers were found to be actively purchasing X accounts to use for scamming purposes. Users are usually sold in the Telegram messenger application, where there is an active market for this category of clients, experts claim.

According to the study, attackers are typically offered a wide selection of accounts, among which there are accounts similar to the profiles of well-known crypto projects. Such a “product” may have a different number of subscribers and a long date of registration on the platform.

After purchasing an account, scammers use advertising tools to increase trust on the social network. With their help, they increase the number of subscribers, likes and promote their profile on site X. Experts note that such services are offered not by the platform itself, but by third-party services, which often accept payment in crypto assets."
