1  Other / Beginners & Help / How to save on transaction fee : Wallets are giving us a wrong estimation on: September 12, 2020, 10:53:21 AM
Hello,

We all make a lot of transactions everyday. Our at most priority is to get our transactions confirmed as fast as possible because some providers don't allow us to use thier service untill the funds have received a fixed number of confirmations.

The wallets, be it hardware or software tend to give us fee estimation by default, showing us priorities as to which is the estimation of our transaction being picked up.

Usually:
  • High Priority
  • Medium Priority
  • Low Priority

For beginner's who don't know what and how a bitcoin transaction works like, please refer to the following posts :

So, I am not going to explain any of these. My priority is to show you how you can check if the fee suggested is what you need to go with or if can you get the same done with a lower fee.

How to do it :

Visit blockchair.com > bitcoin > click on outputs > select any one output > scroll down and click on the transaction hash.

Code:
https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/outputs

You will see all the transaction details. We select an unconfirmed output so as to know the number of transactions that are currently in the pool that are yet to be picked up and confirmed. There are many other ways of doing this, I find this was of doing it easy for me.

I have selected a transaction for example :

In the above image you can see that 6k transactions are pending to be picked up in total in real time. This is just to get an idea of how many transactions are pending, how you can set or prioritise your fee.

The below is the current fee estimation :

I can confirm that these are correct and ledger hardware wallet also shows the same in real time at the moment.

So, I decided to go get my transaction confirmed with lower fee, looking that there are not many transactions pending on the network.

The first transaction :

In the above representation, you can see that the fee used was only 71sat/vB. The transaction got its first confirmation within 10 minutes, i.e, it was picked up in the very next block that was mined.

The second transaction :

Looking at it, a second transaction was made with only 20 sat/vB and guess what ? It was picked up in the next block that was mined too.

What you can do to save on fees :
  • Use a wallet that lets you customise the fee
  • Always check how congested the network is before making a transaction. You don't have to use the suggested fee always.

Conclusion

Wallets(Hardware,Software) have been set up with a algorithm that gives us the most accurate and elaborate fee at a current point of time so as to get a transaction happening in a deliberate manner. But this is not always the case that needs to be considered. In the above example you can see that the suggested fee was 136 sat/b to get it confirmed in the next few blocks, but we could get it done with 20% fee of what was suggested to us just by doing some research and looking at the current congestion.

I hope this guide will be of help to someone.

Thank you.
2  Other / Beginners & Help / Have you lost btc at some point of the time ? What is your story on: September 09, 2020, 05:30:30 PM
Hello,

Nowadays, we all use crypto and make a couple of transactions every other day, be it to deposit our BTC to some exchage, withdraw it from there, send to someone, or for some other service.

It is not new that we make mistakes here and there. The main cause of these mistakes is lack of knowledge. No matter how smart we are, there are always people that will try to trick us into getting us deceived.

To name a few, we are all aware of things like :
  • Fake Wallets
  • Ponzi Schemes
  • Fake Giveaways
  • Phishing Attempts to get us deceived
  • Being a victim of some hack
  • Investments is fake shitcoins and other fake websites

I have many threads today where have lost BTC due to unforced errors, which was mistake on thier part, few for getting deceived and tricked by someone so as to gain access over thier assets.

I know it doesn't feel good to get scammed and the feeling of it sucks. I have seen many people just register and complain about a issue in a single thread and vanish from the forum.

I want to ask all of you guys, have you lost some amount of BTC due to negligence or being a victim of some fraud. Please, let's talk about only BTC and our own experience.

You can speak out your experiences that you would normally not say out loud in the public.

Looking forward to hear some stories, let's be nice to each other and educate each other to become smarter.

To start off, I will write my own story, very long time ago, when I was significantly new to this environment, I had small amount of BTC with me which I sent to wrong address by mistake. Till date it is still on that address. I did scratch my head as to why wallet hadn't recieved it at that time and found that I had just misplaced on word after a lot of research Tongue . It was a small amount and since then I have been extra careful even while copy pasting addresses.

Thank you
3  Bitcoin / Electrum / Solved : Help with electrum wanted needed : Android version on: September 09, 2020, 10:20:41 AM
Hello,

I was outside today and wanted to try out things on my mobile device. I decided to try out electrum on my android device and installed it. A few unusual occurences happened.

I visited thier official website :

Code:
https://electrum.org/#download

Selected the android version. It took me to the play Store.

App Link :

Code:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.electrum.electrum

Downloaded the app and installed it. Everything was fine untill then.

I selected standard wallet > I already have a seed > entered my seed.

After I entered my seed, even when it is complete, the next option does not appear and also the enter or push to next function does not work in android. Just to check if the problem is only on the android device that I use or the android software or the electrum itself, I downloaded electrum on my laptop a while ago, used the same seed and it works fine.

My issue is the next function/button does not appear whatsoever. I have emailed the contact that I found from thier Google playstore page about the same.

As you can see, even though the seed is full, the next option does not give me access to it. I tried my seed, random seeds, random words, everything I could to see if it will appear take me to the next step, it is just not happening for some reason. The software on the laptop seems to works fine, I have checked it. So now, there must some issue on my device or I must be doing something wrong or the android app itself might have some bug or glitch.

If you have faced the same or are facing the same and have any possible solutions, then please post here.

Thank you

5  Other / Beginners & Help / Do we have to archive only our own pages or everything we see ? on: September 07, 2020, 06:20:55 PM
Hello,

I was reading on a few different boards of meta and lending. I found that everything is being archived every now and then so as to keep a track of raw and unmodified data.

I searched the forum for why and how it is done and found some useful guides made by :

Now I have the complete idea of how to do it.

Many other members including me don't know a few things :

  • Do we archive only our posts or everything that we post in or see or is there some criteria ?
  • Is it done individually by all the users or is there someone who archives everything as a whole for the forum itself ?
  • Do we only archive what seems to be useful to us or everything ?

I have never archived anything about me in the forum: posts, threads, replies, nothing at all. Only that, when I staked my address, someone else archived it for me.

Please give me a more insight on my questions. I don't think any new forum member knows about how and why it's done.

Thank you
6  Other / Beginners & Help / A beginner's merrit giveaway thread to beginners [Newbie-Member] Join now ! on: September 06, 2020, 12:22:43 PM
Hello,

I registered on 21, Nov 2019. I registered since I got aware that such a forum exists and i wanted to be a part of the community, also I had a question or two to ask Wink at that time which without registering wouldn't be possible to do. I was viewing as a guest for a long time.

Like everyone, I started as a newbie, managed to get a merit or two here and there and eventually rank up to junior member. As time passed by and as my activity and merit increased I made it to the member rank where I am currently sitting now. It was hell of a roller coaster ride.

Not everyone has same skill sets or knowledge to provide useful information or feedback when requested by users in different scenarios, I know many of the new members might feel the same.

What I learnt was, in order to contribute, you first have to be able to know about the subject, if you do, everything else is a cakewalk.

Have you been on the forum for a long time ? But haven't been able to manage to get any merits or rank up? Don't be discouraged. There is always time to grow and room to learn new things.

Many people have helped me in ranking up, getting merit is not dependent of chance but choice. If someone finds you or your posts interesting and appealing, they will reward you regardless, the community is very good hearted and welcomes everything that others offer to them.

Below are the members who helped me rank up and motivated me to be more productive by showing appreciation to what I did untill now.

If you feel left out, feel that you have made some good posts but haven't been appreciated, feel there is something that you have contributed and haven't been able to get attention, don't worry. Post here if you meet the below criteria I will see to my best that you recieve a reward for it.

Criteria
  • Newbie, Junior Member and Member ranks are eligible to participate.
  • Account age must be 3 months or older
  • Posts written only in English will be considered
  • Accounts with negative trust/feedback are not allowed to participate
  • I will give only one merit with regard to this giveaway thread
  • You can post only 1 topic that you find is the best according to you which deserves attention. Please post a direct link to the topic.

I have only 9 sendable merits at the moment.

Even if all my sendable merits are over you can still post here, if or when I manage to get some merits myself again, you will be rewarded regardless.

Good luck and Thank you.
7  Other / Beginners & Help / Help with wallet and address distribution needed on: September 04, 2020, 04:46:56 PM
Hello,

I had previously made an topic for suggestions on How to Introduce someone to the world of bitcoin.

I got a idea that why not give them some satoshis and ask them to try it themselves: send, recieve or store.

Not everyone started with bitcoin by buying it right ? Many people were interested in the technology itself and at the beginning we were able to get it just by running a software on our PC.

Giving them paper wallets and loading it with small amounts of BTC won't help me here, as it won't get them any hands on experience nor does it look like an attractive approach to me.

Also if I try to load let's say 10 wallets with such small amounts, the fee itself will cost me a lot.

I am aware of lightning network and its benifits. This could be of one consideration.

But what I am looking for is :

I see that many exchanges allow free transfer internally, that might be because all the addresses arrive from one private key or some criteria like this. Can I implement something like this ? Is it easy to setup ? What do I need to do so?

There are basically no shops that accept BTC here, nor do I expect them to send it to thier own external wallets. What I expect is that they just try it among one another before getting hold of the approach.

Which wallet do I need to use for maximum efficiency ? How to implement something like this ? Or is LN my only way to go.

If you have other ideas of how I can give them small amount of sats and ask them to send, recieve or store among themselves to know how it all works efficiently without much of the fee, please share here.

Thank you.
8  Other / Beginners & Help / Bitcoin Mining For Newbies on: September 03, 2020, 05:55:04 PM
Hello,

Most of us have a question, how to obtain a good quantity of BTC quickly and from a reliable source. One such way of doing so is by mining it.

This will be a quick walkthrough without much technicalities for beginners.

What is mining of BTC

Just like mining(searching) for natural resources such as coal, gold etc, this a type of mining done using different electronic devices.

Mining is the process of adding transaction records to Bitcoins public ledger of past transactions. You are rewarded BTC for contributing, legitimising, and for monitoring the bitcoin network and it's Blockchain.

What do I need to do this type of mining

Did you know, in the beginning years, you could just mine hundreds of Bitcoins with a normal computer or laptop without the use of much resources.

Nowadays, the competition is tough, everyone knows that this is a good way of earning Bitcoins and hence are investing a lot of money and resources into it.

Things you would need are :

A lot of powerful GPU's
Or
Specialised mining hardware know as the ASIC miner
With the combination of a pc or a laptop and a software that helps you to connect to the network.

I would like to let you know that, all these products consume  a lot of electricity and mining using GPU's is no longer suggested or profitable for BTC since you would never end up finding a block and validate it to recieve a reward.

What will I get if I find a block after all this fuss  Huh

You will currently get 6.25BTC if you succeed in doing so.

Ok, so how many times in a day is this reward dropped

You get it everytime a new block is mined, approximately once every 10 minutes approx.

Is it worth investing money on mining and it's hardware

Like I said earlier, there is a lot of competition, there are big organisations that have most of this hashing power, buying one or two equipments won't get you anywhere.

You could however join a pool with your device and try to contribute, if you are lucky, who knows, you may be rewarded.

What is this pool  Huh

Like I mentioned earlier, unless you are contributing to the system/trying to mine using a large number of your own hardware, chances of you finding any reward are 0.

So, to make the most out of what you got, there is this pooling

  • You can either try to mine individually
  • You can contribute your hashing power and combine it with someone else doing the same task and share profits if you manage to mine a block

What not to do

  • On the internet there are a lot of websites that offer you to do mining just by downloading thier software or by asking you to register or by asking you to put in your private keys in their website in return of fixed return. Never go into any of those, these are the ways to scam.
  • Never try to invest money into cloud minig unless you know what you are doing and the whereabouts of the company where you are trying to buy some hash power. There are a lot of scam sites, duplicate sites, sites with fake reviews, sites that offer tons of interest on your deposits, sites that promise fixed returns. Remeber mining cannot give you fixed returns and most likely it's a scam.

I hope I haven't bored you guys yet. There may be many mistakes in the topic too, please help me correct them. I haven't gone into technicalities as anyone relatively new would not even understand it and tried to keep it as breif and simple as possible.

Thank you
9  Other / Beginners & Help / What are the best ways of introducing someone to bitcoin ? on: September 02, 2020, 09:20:30 PM
Hello,

I was thinking and wondering of different ways to introduce my family, friends and colleagues to bitcoin and I tried to convince them, but couldn't pitch in perfectly to get them going.

Things I tried
  • Showed them the current value of BTC pegged to fiat, which did get thier attention for a while.
  • Told them about how it all started, how the community adopted the use of BTC and how it all boomed.
  • Showed them my wallets : how easy and fast it is to send and recieve to almost anywhere in the world as long as there is an internet connection.
  • Introduced them to a few exchanges to show how easy it is to buy or sell whenever they want to.
  • Told and proved to them how secure and anonymous a transaction is and how fast it can be for cross border transactions compared to other financial institutions.

Well, I pretty much tried to do everything I could. Now after they listened to all that I said, watched everything as that I showed to them as a demo, they did thier own research. They started shooting a few questions like
  • See how often the price drops, this could be a bubble
  • See Google tells crypto currency is used in black market to keep anonymity and make illegal trasactions
  • See these types of currencies are used for the purpose of gambling to be in disguise

So basically, what I am looking for as an answer is, an approach that can be used in order to gain interest of people, stating all the good things and the bad things about BTC in a manner that a "noob" can understand and try to think, yes this is already beneficial to others, why not I try it too ?

All suggestions are welcomed.

Thank you
10  Local / Regional Languages (India) / ट्रस्ट सिस्टम का उपयोग कैसे करें on: September 02, 2020, 02:58:52 PM
Original Post: LoyceV's Beginners guide to correct use of the Trust system

11  Other / Beginners & Help / What is the best way of storing and spending small amount of satoshis ? on: August 31, 2020, 08:59:29 AM
Hello,

I am unable to find an efficient way on how to spend small amount of BTC in terms of satoshis, for example 10k-50k sats.

There are many sources which give out these amounts of collective payouts such as faucets, reward hubs, or giveaways.

Once we get these coins in our wallet, in order to spend them, the fee itself is too high and will eat up a huge portion of it. Even though they are worth peanuts but saving something off it is better than saving nothing at all, money is money and it's not far that bitcoin will reach the moon.

Many people might have had such problems and thoughts. If you got any walkthrough or a efficient way of doing this please share here.

Thank you
12  Other / Beginners & Help / How to be useful to the forum ? on: August 31, 2020, 08:27:38 AM
Hello,

I was told by *someone* that in order to achieve something here, I need to be useful to the forum first.

About me and my whereabouts in the forum :

I usually login and see what's going on in the forum whenever I have time to - read posts, think, implement.

When I have more time to spend I sometimes patrol too and look at topics I got no clue about and see what's in it.

The issues I have :

Even though I read a lot of topics, I am unable to answer to them, since either they have already been answered or that I don't have enough knowledge about the subject being discussed.

I don't have a special skill set to offer some services in the services board nor am I able to make enough time to manage something like that, but I am looking into myself what I can offer so that people can benifit.

I felt like I am being left out, it's been a few months since I am on the forum and my progress has slowed down drastically, I feel like I lack a little bit of something.

There is no doubt that everyday I am looking at something new here and learning something new, but how do I contribute too ? I don't really want to spam anything that already everyone knows. Also, I think a lot of new memebrs feel the same like me.

Calling out all the fellow members to share thier thoughts and insights on how to deal with this issue.

Thank you

Hello,

I was wondering, if there is a mobile wallet that will allow me to recieve and send funds via the same recieving and sending address again and again.
The ones that I've used change address automatically everytime for the privacy and thier algorithm is specified to do so. [Used: Blockchain wallet, coinomi, edge, mycelium]
The drawback that I am facing is I am able to sign a message only once via one adress and unable to do so again since it changes.

Any or all suggestions are highly appreciated.

Thank you.
14  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Selling mSpy account [ Mobile monitor/Spy app] on: July 22, 2020, 03:53:35 PM
Hello,

I had purchased 3 months premium account subscription for mSpy. Off which 3 days have been used. Fortunately enough, I caught my gf flirting and cheating just in 2 days by having look at her texts and call records. When I showed her the proof, the first thing she did was breaking her phone. I no longer need this.

I am selling it for 30$ in BTC.

The email and password can be changed to your desired credentials .

Escrow is a must or you must go first. If you are well established here, I can go first.

Things you can do with this :

View all incoming, outgoing, or deleted text messages
Check their call history
Track the GPS location of the device
Access Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat, etc
Works on iPhone, iPad, or any Android device

Physical access to device required. Installation took me 3 minutes .

If you want to monitor your kids, wife or know about your gfs whereabouts, this a good offer. Shoot me up if interested.

16  Bitcoin / Electrum / Unable to install Electrum on: January 16, 2020, 09:48:26 AM
Hello,

I had a old cpu that i decided to use today. I downloaded Electrum wallet into it from https://electrum.org/#download and verified its GPG signature too.

The Cpu specs are :

AMD FX(tm)-6300 Six-Core processor 3.50 GHz
8 GB RAM
64-bit Operating System
2 GB Graphics Card
Windows 7 Ultimate

I think the problem is being caused due to the CPU having windows 7 Ultimate. I don't want to replace the OS Sad

I got an error "api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll missing" - This is basically Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015.

I didn't get it by automatic windows update since windows is up to date already.

When i downloaded it manually and tried to install, also it doesn't go through because its too high version for this OS to handle.

If i download a lower version of electrum then there is a lot of risk in everything.

Is there any fix to this ?

17  Other / Beginners & Help / Where to use .json file ? on: January 05, 2020, 01:26:45 AM
Hello,

Today i downloaded a wallet backup from a website, the extension to it was ".json". There was no program in my computer that could open this file.

I think if i used a desktop wallet, i could load it or import or something like that from what i read.

Does it have the backup phrases inside it like i got when i first started trezor ? Or does it have private key which if i load in block chain then loads my receiving address? What exactly is in it and is it mandatory for me to use a desktop wallet to load and look into it ?

EDIT

The admin swiftly replied that :

The JSON file isn't compatible with any other wallet software yet.

It currently can only be used by somebody with some technical/coding experience.

The format of the backup file and the mechanism used to calculate addresses is described in detail @ https://whitepaper.localethereum.com/#sec-Ratcheting-addresses

I lost a lot this year, my dad. Nothing can really fulfill his absence. Believe me, he was the best. In the coming year, i want to be a better person, be more knowledgeable, more efficient, more resourceful and more successful.

I give everyone posting here an opportunity to gain 1 merit and 0.001 BTC given by me.

All you have to do is predict the price of BTC at the end of January, i.e, 01/31/2020, 12 PM GMT. The closest value will be rounded off and will be declared the winner. If there are 2 or more people who post same value, random number generator will decide the winner. Last entry for the prediction will be 01/15/2020.
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Is there any anonymous Crypto re-loadable prepaid card ? on: December 30, 2019, 12:59:09 PM
Hello,

I was wondering if there was any provider that could provide a Crypto re-loadable Visa or MasterCard who has services running in Asia.

I found many services such as nexo, spectrocoin, rax card, uquid and bitplastic. All these have a lot of scam reports lately and they don't support shipping and services in Asian countries.

I also found a few individuals providing cards which were linked to some "anonymous" accounts and wanted me to send them crypto which they would refill for in fiat. But at any point, they can scam me as the account is not my own, might be a stolen one and i will have no clue to who the real owner is, that is they can also withdraw that money at any point. First owner is the real owner.

I was looking for a physical card that i could use in emergencies for small withdrawals in ATM's and for small purchases online. The websites that have KYC end up never verifying its users and locking their funds according to the reviews users have given.

If any of you have been using a service that is great and requires minimal or no KYC and is available for Asians, please post here, the information will be of great help to me.
20  Other / Beginners & Help / Please recommend me a place to sell/buy btc without ID verification on: December 20, 2019, 09:46:25 PM
Greetings,

A few days ago, localbitcoins told me i need to proceed to tier 3 verification, i thought it was ok to do so and uploaded what they requested, and from past 4 days i am still waiting for them to update my limit and make my account fully functional, no reply to my ticket also yet. Then i looked into google where to buy and sell for my country, i found paxful and remitano to be the top competitors for local bitcoins. I registered in both the places to see what is next, in remitano i could sell small amount without any issue, but they made me link my phone and bank account for the purpose of verification. In paxful, i fould all shady profiles so i never bothered to create a trade there. I think if i deposit a slightly huge volume of BTC then remitano also might lock my account untill the verification is completely done. I do have a option of selling and buying offline, from people i have dealt with a few times earlier, but those people are offering me prices i am not good to deal with, but in websites the catch was that i got more offers and better rates.

I searched in bitcointalk too, there were many threads guiding me how i can exchange in different exchanges, but most of them were crypto to crypto. I wanted a solution for crypto-fiat and vice versa. I also found this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=53.0 place in the forum where many people make offers. I feel i will have to use escrow, and the fees that escrow providers charge might sometimes be too much for small deals.

Is there any place or any way that peer to peer trading can happen safely without the fuss of verifying all my ID's ? Some websites wanted me to verify my bank account too, but i never bothered to login to my internet banking from their websites interface.

I believe many people might be facing the issue same as me after many tiers of verification has come up and different policies that these providers are regulating on their customers forcefully in order to use their services.

I also believe someone might have a solution to this or alternatives that they have personally used which could help me at this point.

EDIT : BEST OPTIONS SO FAR
  • Buy/Sell @ FORUM https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=53.0 [No id, no verification, can use escrow, can trade without escrow with trusted mebers too]
  • Buy/Sell @ LOCAL CRYPTO https://localcryptos.com/ [Need to verify email and phone for the purpose of recovery of account, no ID, no verification, they may only individually be requested by the traders themselves to verify the payee]
  • Buy/Sell @ BISQ NETWORK https://bisq.network/ [Need to provide bank details, create order, No ID, No verification *][Very slow though]
