1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / [ANN]ORA::NXT MS Currency::'Shuffling' for NXT::jl777 involved::Anon fungibility on: April 24, 2015, 06:18:05 AM
Introducing "ORA::Shuffling"

NXT can become anonymous via 'Shuffling' tech!

ORA has existed as a leaderless decentralized community based 'starfish' project in search of a purpose for almost a year now.

We now have a (possible) purpose thanks to a wonderful suggestion by user 'Jack Needles'.

We also have in principle support from jl777, a true crypto dev powerhouse, to help us pursue 'ORA::shuffling' further, so this idea is much more than mere brainstorming.

ORA *could* become the default 'shuffling' MS currency that adds anon capabilities to NXT.

If this idea is going to work we need community support and engagement NOW!

To get everyone up to speed asap I've decided to put everything 'out there' without any editing to speak of, so what follows is the full communication between myself and jl777 regarding 'ORA as the default NXT shuffling currency' idea over the last couple of days.

Please forgive the verbosity, but I favor full disclosure where possible, and I am not a tech person myself, so there is a great need for input and suggestions from those with skills and ideas in order to achieve this goal.

Adding anon capabilities to NXT via 'shuffling' is a BIG thing, and as a community based project with a solid history for honesty and integrity over nearly 12 months now (i.e. free stakes via webapp registration, sockpuppet countermeasures, no IPO, no 'funny business') ORA is in a great position to make NXT shuffling work, so this is well worth the read, and (hopefully) worth getting involved with!!

If you're looking for a community based decentralized project to get involved with, consider ORA!!

Kora forum post

The other day forum member 'Jack Needles' suggested a possible use case for ORA MS currency as the 'go-to' coin to anonymize NXT accounts via 'shuffling'. I think this is an excellent idea to pursue further, as basic fungibility of crypto currencies is in serious doubt without the ability of ALL users to periodically anonymize their coins when they wish. ORA will be (probably) the MS coin with the widest distribution (and we still have coins to distribute too!), so Jack Needles suggestion is try and position ORA MS as the NXT communities defacto 'shuffle coin' is definiely worth debating & exploring further! Thanks Jack Smiley

jl777 forum post

I like this idea of a default shuffle coin!
It will require payments on a regular basis for the tx
However, I think what would be most effective is to have a single block every so often where all the shuffling happens

No matter how good the shuffling if the total anon set it 2, then it has little privacy.
But if ALL ORA users at block N*1000 did the shuffle, then it will do a few things
a) totally fill up some NXT blocks
b) randomize which tx end up in these full blocks
c) create a pretty large anon set, which will allow others to more safely mix their tx during this specified block
d) create regular (weekly?) events that are at least noticeable

However, ORA will need to have a meaningful market value for it to be useful for doing anything real.

The total value should be > than the total tx volume of these shuffling blocks. I have an idea for this.

Also, I think someone can make a shuffle party plugin so you can set it to be active and it shows some cool countdown sequence, or just memes to tie it into its MIC

Kora forum post

Thanks for the support James, very much appreciated!!

I agree that for ORA to become useful as the default shuffle MS it needs a wide distribution and a decent market value, so any ideas you have for making those two more likely would be excellent James.

We still have a good chunk of coins to distribute (the exact amounts for the distro has changed as circumstances of the project have changed from the original idea back in May 2014). Originally the balance of coins was going to pay bounties for developers and community workers, but that was all based on ORA being a separate coin with a blend of new and old tech with its own P2P network. As that is redundent now we could always explore distribution ideas to meet other goals, or even reduce the coin supply and have no more distro.

Since the decision to go with the MS idea was made we tried and experimented with an idea suggested by BTM's coinsolidation to let holders of other dead and dying coins 'burn' other coins for ORA MS coins. Darkhorse did this with holders of a late 2014 scam coin 'ReserveShare' initially as his own project, and we did plan to do more of these coin 'assimilations' to get a wider distribution, with the biggest being the merger with MIC.

We can always re-assess the best method of further distribution to suite the current needs. My primary goal is not to sell coins, but give them away in ways that add value to the project, so something more meaningful than an "interested". We did have plans originally for "proof of action" giveaways, like entries in out short film competition "Cryptofest", but none of them has been very successful to date.

Any ideas you have James for how to distribute further ORA to make the shuffling idea work better are most welcome! I do like the "shuffle plugin" idea showing MIC memes to NXT inspired music, that's fun, and that's always been part of NXT, and crypto ingeneral!!

I want to help

What is the current distribution of ORA? At least theoretically when all the outstanding balance issues are settled?

James

Quote
Kora PM

Thanks James!!

The current distribution is a bit ambiguous. By that I mean we were always open to discussing options for how to proceed as circumstances changed, so things are a bit complicated

The original idea from May 2014 was:
50% - distributed equally to ~3000 webapp registration applicants
5% - goes to the registration webapp dev
5% - goes to the dev who clones Qora, and creates the Kora wallet applications
2% - Kora founder fast tracking expense account PAID
8% - goes to node bot bounties
4% - website & marketing
1% - Qora dev
25% - POWER BOUNTIES

We only reached ~890 staked from the first webapp registration, so what we did was distribute ~890 lots of 166,000 ORA, which was the stake size assuming we had reached out goal (i.e. 50% of 1billion is 500 million, divided by 3000 = 166,000 ORA per stake). The plan was to continue with "proof of action" type distribution up to the goal of 3000 initial stakeholders.

Then the our lead dev went MIA, and we pivoted the plan to the MS (which was a better option anyway IMO). That meant some of the original distro items were not relevant, so what was left was more like:

50% - distributed equally to ~3000 webapp registration applicants
5% - goes to the registration webapp dev
5% - goes to the dev who clones Qora, and creates the Kora wallet applications
2% - Kora founder fast tracking expense account PAID
8% - goes to node bot bounties
4% - website & marketing
1% - Qora dev
39% - POWER BOUNTIES

My 2% was a personal expense account which I was using to fast track some things like bounties to the first few guys who started helping me (like Darkhorse) and the ORA asset faucet etc while we developed proper decentralised starfish community processes for decision making, so I bought on the NXT AE all of my personal stake (~11million ORA).

The "power bounties" are dev and community worker bounties, to be voted on by the community over time, assuming a lot more dev work was going to be needed with out own coin.

The coin 'assimilations' Darkhorse planned to do (including, I think,  MIC) were coming out of the ~2100 first round left overs (i.e. we only distributed 890 of the 3k, so we had 2110 166K ORA stakes left over from the 50%).

Before DH disappeared we were still discussing things based on many more coin assimilations like MIC and 'reserveshare' were going to happen, but I think with DH gone (and coinsolidation who suggested that idea and offered to help), and this current focus on 'default shuffling coin', what we end up with probably more like this:

50% - distributed equally to ~3000 webapp registration applicants (+ MIC redemptions) - about 50% left
5% - goes to the registration webapp dev PAID
2% -Kora founder fast tracking expense account PAID (about 50% left, i.e. 1% of coin supply still unspent)
4% - website & marketing AVAILABLE - 100% left
39% - POWER BOUNTIES AVAILABLE - 100% left

Of the 50%, probably about half is still available, but I'd have to check to be certain.

So ... it's a bit complicated, but the TL,DR is we have plenty of ORA left to play with.

jl777 PM

I have some silver coins that I planned to use to promote MS with
I am thinking that we can back the ORA with the silver coins to give it some specific value
it is the pondsea supernet coins

Quote
Kora PM

Ok, that's a good idea James! I just received my order of 5 silver supernet coins yesterday, so I can vouch for them, very nice job he did!!

Can I assist with that?

Quote
jl777 PM

We would need to come up with some sort of exchange rate and the the lot of these coins can provide backing for all of ORA

Then we can add value by making the shuffle plugin and I can start using it for some other use cases. The key is to push into it enough hard value so it has enough value for meaningful transactions. Which then provides the environment for getting more usages, etc.

Now this will mean a giant windfall to all ORA owners...

So, to make this fair, the community needs to agree to a few things. First we need the plugin to be written that does the synchronized shuffle. Second we need everybody to agree to spend the 1 NXT tx fee at least once per week for at least a year. But probably just monthly at first.

If you can make these things happen, I would be willing to dilute the value of the silver coins, but there needs to be strong and active community based around cooperatively creating these shuffle blocks. It will become the safest way to transact!

If we can get 1000 different nodes all transacting the same block(s), it makes for a very nice anon set indeed

James

Quote
Kora PM

Ok, so our goal is:
1- shuffling plugin developed and paid for
2- everybody to agree to spend the 1 NXT tx fee at least once per week for at least a year. But probably just monthly at first (maybe we need an added incentive for these shuffling nodes??)
3- ideally 1000 nodes online shuffling at all times

Ok, I will propose this to the ORA community and try to get a plan of action to take us forward!!

Quote
jl777 PM

for 3, it is not realistic to be shuffling all the time, just not enough people doing enough tx. But by coordinating everybody (using tech to get precise sync) we can flood the network with all the shuffle tx at the same time. This does a few things. In addition to providing the cover traffic for people that want to maintain privacy, if you are doing this every week (along with everybody else), then when you want to do a real tx shuffled, it looks exactly the same as a normal week where you are just doing the synchronized!

So the incentive is that by working together we all get a safe time to transact with a 1000+ possibile source and destination, baasically everybody looks the same as they are always doing the same, so nothing to latch onto.

Now the incentive (2) that you ask for is the following:
"estimate what the value of a currency that provides the highest level of cover traffic"
This is a non-tech aspect that combines with the shuffling tech magnificently, together it is actually quite a good privacy and with so many people involved, the word will spread and then it will get more and more use, which will increase its price.

The good old fashioned "increase in market value" should provide the incentive, as long as the vision is communicated.

Also, we can use InstantDEX to trade it so there will be an active near realtime market for it during the non-shuffle times

James

Quote
Kora PM

Ok, got it, or most of it anyway!! What you're describing sounds like an incredible opportunity for us. I agree that the expected increase in ORA value is incentive enough, or it should be. We still have plenty of ORA to distribute if we need, and my feeling is some sort of MIC styled promo giveaway on nxtforum.org would spread ORA around to stakeholders more likely to appreciate the opportunity for ORA with this shuffling idea (i.e. free giveaway to NXTers for memes or something similar). I don't think ORA has much traction on bitcointalk.org now.

I'm not much of a tech guy myself (more someone who has some appreciation for the big picture), would you mind if I quoted some of your PM's in my posts to help people understand what's on offer for ORA with shuffling, and what we need to do as a community to make it happen? Your explanations are far superior to anything I could do!

Also, just to confirm, would ORA holders need to have their NXT account logged in to act as a shuffling node, similar to how forging works? If that is true, then maybe we could distribute some of the remaining ORA to shufflers based on something similar to forging (i.e. you get some ORA when you're running the shuffling plugin using some formula that takes into account your balance and/or how often you're assisting the shuffling process). Even if just for the first few months it might help get people shuffling. I agree the increase in value *should* be incentive enough, but I worry that apathy might make it hard to reach a target of 1000, assuming the user needs to have their account with ORA online and unlocked/shuffling. If in fact the shuffling process still works with 'passive' participation, then 1000 target should be easy to reach. Am I correct in thinking the shuffling plugin would require similar setup for the user as forging (i.e. account unlocked on a running NXT node)?

thanks James Smiley

Quote
jl777 PM

I can only guess at the details, but my assumption is that to shuffle, you just need to send a payment. So to do that you have to be online at the designated time(s) and have enough NXT in the acct.

Why not to reserve ORA as incentive to do this, like NSC is used to encourage hallmarked nodes. So people that shuffle get more ORA.

no problems in quoting me and if there is a thread with specific question, I can post there directly. At some point, I might come up with some special offchain shuffling where people would just be able to run it in the background, no NXT fees. My idea is that we circulate small amounts of ORA offchain, using people's ORA, but they are not paying out of pocket for this, so even if it is stolen, it is not a giant loss.

Now imagine all this ORA constantly being bounced around offchain. It will be like oxygen in the air. Almost always enough to breathe, but not enough to be able to extract it and sell it. So some sort of public service to jump start the oxygen supply. Now who is tracking every oxygen molecule? As that is what would need to be done to break the privacy at this level

So this is quite a significant thing, but it requires community, active and dedicated more than anything else. Once ORA becomes the anonymous oxygen for crypto, we can do transactions via osmosis

James

Some Issues to consider (please add more!):
- we have plenty of ORA left over from first round distribution
- we have less dev & network support expenses as an MS currency
- we need as many ORA holders 'shuffling' as possible
- how can we motivate people to 'shuffle'?
- how do we pay for the shuffle plugin?
- what further distribution do we need (if any) to achieve our goal?

Some ORA stakeholders sent their ORA & MIC assets to the redemption address, but many did not - if this idea 'works' ORA *could* experience a lot more attention & a windfall gain for current holders. I advise ORA stakeholders to adjust offers on the NXT AE for ORA accordingly.

Please have your say on anything related to 'ORA::shuffling', ideas for further distribution of ORA - anything you think is relevant to making this new direction for ORA successful!

2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [ANN] Altcoiners Anonymous, are you addicted? Want a way forward? ORA can help! on: December 21, 2014, 07:33:37 AM
Are you addicted to alt coins?

Are most/many of your alt coin bags effectively worthless?

Do you want to get clean, break the cycle of wasted time, effort & money ... get back your original passion for decentralisation, the reason you got interested in crypto currencies in the first place?

ORA can help!

Hi, I'm Kora, and I'm an altcoin-aholic!

My alt coin addiction crept up on me gradually, as most addictions do. Litecoin, NameCoin & DevCoin - they all seemed to make sense, and having a 'taste' of what it felt like to be an early bitcoiner seemed like a good idea at the time, and probably was with those coins.

Experimentation is part of the human experience, and I was a smart guy, right? I wasn't about to start flushing my hard earned $$$ down the toilet ... right?

Then came PeerCoin and PrimeCoin. Again, good solid dev, and hell, PrimeCoin actually had a purpose for all those hashes! I was loving alt coins back then, and I was gonna make some money! I always did my due diligence ... right?

By the time Feathercoin was released in April 2013 I was fully addicted, but like most addicts, I didn't know it at the time. Like many other seemingly 'sane' crypto'farians, the alt coin scene in late 2013 seemed to be a world of innovation, possibilities, and potential reward, and I thought like many others 'I'm a smart guy, I'll be able to spot the wheat from the chaff, I'm gonna make some money from this crypto hobby of mine'.

Well, what happened in 2014? Where did 'reason' and rationality go? Why did so many altcoin-aholics like me get scammed so much?

While I DO still believe there are a few quality alt coins around that are genuinely innovative & serve a real purpose, and have real communities and developers supporting them, its time to admit that I'm an alt coin junky, and I've wasted a lot of time on some pretty crappy coins. I've spent far too many hours combing the alt coin sub-forum here on BTT looking for the next NXT, and it's time to admit ... I have a problem .... I've hit rock bottom ... I want out .... and I don't think I'm alone!

Are you addicted to alt coins? Are you wasting your precious time & money wading through the alt coin forum in search of a miracle?

Is there a better way? Can we break our addictions to alt coins and stop the misery, the shame ... the lost money?

Well, I think there is a better way, and it's called the NXT 'monetary system'.

IN a nutshell a NXT MS currency runs on top of the NXT platform, like HTTP runs on top of TCP/IP. I believe the NXT monetary system is the future of alt coins, and I want to offer some hope to other alt coin bag holders like myself!

All jokes aside, project ORA is going to launch an MS currency, and we're working on a proposal to let people 'burn' dead & dying alt coins in exchange for ORA MS currency coins. The plan is still in development, and the coins we choose for our '12 steps program' has yet to be decided, and the exact procedures we use to accomplish our goal is still being worked on, but our goal is set, and we're inviting ALL interested altcoiners to tell us what they think!

ORA is offering a way forward out of alt coin addiction! Combine some of the many failed altcoins into a MEGA MS currency running on top of NXT.

For more information on the NXT MS:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=896520.0

Please feel free to use this thread to 'share', and to offer any suggestions on how best to execute this idea. The goal is a good one IMO - letting alt coin addicts exchange various coins for a single unified NXT MS coin - but the exact implementation is open to opinion, and we want to hear what people think.

Which coins are most suitable for joining ORA? How can we automate the 'burn' process? What is the best design for the MS coin (there are quite a few parameters to experiment with).

As for sharing, I think my most embarrassing alt coin experience was VisaCoin ... man, what was I thinking!!!

I've been 'clean' for a while now, and I'm ready to 'sponsor' any alt coin addicts who've hit rock bottom, and want to get out! No judgements here!!

Anyone want to share?

Welcome to the ORA bounty discussion thread!
By design we have left a large proportion of ORA assets/coins in trust for later distribution as bounties.

The ORA distribution is as follows:
50% - distributed equally to ~3000 webapp registration applicants (still to decide how to distribute left over stakes)
5% - goes to the registration webapp dev
5% - goes to the dev who clones Qora, and creates the ORA wallet applications
2% - ORA founder
8% - goes to node bot bounties
4% - website & marketing
1% - Qora dev
25% - POWER BOUNTIES

That means at least ~37% of ALL ORA will be paid to active community members as bounties for doing all the necessary tasks required to give ORA the best chance of being successful in the medium-long term.

We will use this thread to discuss how we will do this!

My goal is to create a 'process' that is open & transparent, and maybe we can use community discussion to  nominate potential bounty candidates, and then we can use the NXT voting system to decide who gets what bounty payments, and for what tasks.

Another option would be to form a committee of 4-5 people who could decide the details after eligible candidates had been nominated by the community.

There are many options to consider, and this thread is a good place to explore them. If you have any ideas please feel free to make them here!

How we distribute the bounties is a crucial task for the ORA community, and while I suspect it wont be easy, how successful we are at doing it will go a long way in determining how successful the ORA project as a whole ends up being!

Good luck to all of us Smiley

Pentamon will update Logo related information HERE
Many thanks to Pentamon for helping with the ORA Logo process Smiley

And now, for something completely different....

... let us go into second gear!

I have set a deadline for submitting logo designs. 17 August 2014

I have set deadline for voting on the logos. 31 August 2014

I have concocted a voting mechanism, that takes into account that we will have to do everything on this thread, right here.

The details are here, in the design guidelines message:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=697958.msg7952290#msg7952290

Voting, in a nutshell:
You can vote any time, even before all designs are submitted, but you may vote only once. If you change your mind, you may go back and edit it.
Regular commentators as well as designers are asked to submit three top choices in a voting post, that starts with the words: "Here is my vote", followed by the three top choices that you deem to be the best, in descending order. Just go to the submitted designs, and copy the image links,  and post them in your voting post in descending order: Number 1, 2 and 3. If you post only one, it will be counted on position number three.
Designers may vote for one of their own, but number two and three should be from another designer.
Two thirds of the total vote, is given to the designers. Regular commentators will for the remaining third of the vote.

I will follow this post with a vote post example.

Let me know if we can improve on this process.

Pentamon

Welcome to the (K)Ora logo submission & discussion thread!

Feel free to submit any logo designs and ideas in this thread.

Thanks to Pentamon for suggesting this Smiley

Try and follow nioccoin's advice and keep your logo design square shaped (see below).

I'll keep using 'Kora' to identify our threads on the forum to avoid confusion, but are we "Kora" or "Ora"?

I think the Logo designers could decide the issue! Which one looks better on a starfish? Smiley

Enjoy, and remember, having fun is half the fun!!

...
Pentamon

Good suggestion Pentamon! A logo thread might be fun too. Any logo will need to fit in with nioccoin's website, but we can at least make a start at getting some suggestions.

Yes, thanks for bringing that up.

As long as the logo is a square dimension, such as a*a, or a round logo, it will fit easily in to the website.  If we somehow end up with a rectangular logo or some oblong shape, which does happen, it will be more difficult to incorporate, but not impossible.  Also, make sure to design in a transparency layer format of some kind, or at least have the ability to export it with transparency.  I can read just about any major file format.

At this point we will just plan to keep the images sort-of generic, and the site design will be switch-selectable in terms of colour scheme.  For instance, the present colour scheme will almost certainly clash if we end up with the aforementioned starfish logo, so I'll try to keep the colours nimble.

kind regards,
nio

Welcome to the Kora development discussion thread!
Our lead developer, nioccoin, will use this thread to catalogue all relevant ideas & suggestions no matter how insignificant they may seem at the time.

Over time this thread will become the historical record for Kora development.

We welcome and encourage input from everyone interested in Kora, but we have made this a moderated thread to avoid getting bogged down in FUD and irrelevancy. We are very open to constructive criticism, and well thought out criticism of Kora will NOT be deleted, but from experience we have decided to reserve the right to delete any FUD and mindlessly negative posts to help keep this thread readable.

I want to take this opportunity to thank Mac Red & nioccoin for joining with me to start 'Kora', and I want to thank all those who have so far registered to be a stakeholder.

To date Kora has primarily focused on the task of creating a 'fair' and transparent initial distribution to bootstrap a community, and while that work will continue, it is now time to turn our attention to the other crucial task any new crypto currency MUST tackle - the technology!

I urge people to join with nioccoin in a constructive discussion about Kora technical development. nioccoin is our lead dev, but Kora is a decentralised community, and we are all stakeholders with valid opinions, so feel free to join in and have your say!

Will Kora end up being a straight clone of Qora, or will it fork into something new & unique? Let's find out together in this thread Smiley

edit: I love this qoute from nioccoin, says it all for me Smiley
Quote
What separates Kora from most other coins is that we are putting in place a formal and public project plan.  Most coins only open-source their code.  We are going a step further.  To put it differently, we are "crowd-sourcing" our project assumptions, project risks, and candidate solutions, so that the community - you - can help strengthen Kora with your input and ideas.  And like your instinct to protect your quid, or your yuan, or your dollar, Kora's first instinct is to guard stakeholder value.  I have some ideas on how to "build security in" to Kora.  Undoubtedly you do to, and that is what this thread is for.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Kora:: What should we do with left over stakes? on: July 02, 2014, 12:10:10 AM
The Kora registration process is going very well, but it looks like we will not reach 3000 stakeholders. What should we do with the left over stakes?

I can see advantages from all options (and maybe we can split any left over stakes between two, or even all three options above), but I think the best option is 3. Keep in trust for later distribution

IMO we have 25% for power bounties, plus 5% for the core dev (plus a little extra bitcoin payment from me), and the webapp registration dev also has 5%, so I think we have dev bounties covered. I do want to encourage people to donate to the dev team though, but we have planned well for formal community bounties IMO.

In my mind the choice is between increasing the size of the stake for existing stakeholders, or keeping the remaining stakes in trust and opening up registrations later on when Kora is better known. I feel Kora has momentum now, and once we distribute Kora tokens on the NXT AE we will get a lot more exposure. I've already had approaches from some crypto media outlets, and I think in 2-3 months once nioccoin has had some time to lay out his future dev roadmap to the community, I believe Kora *could* have a sizable buzz around it similar to what NEM has now. If that does happen it would be so awesome to be able to open up registrations again for another ~1500-2000 stakeholders.

I believe by opening up registrations later on for a 'round 2' we *could* end up increasing the value of the round 1 stakes by a larger amount than if we distribute the left over stakes to existing round 1 stakeholders. IMO the real 'value' comes from the Kora community, and as stakes are free we need to expect a lot more passive bystanders than NXT & Qora have. For that reason I think having those left over stakes in trust for later distribution is the best option.

One of my non-negotiable Kora fundamentals is 'Kora stakes are free', so I can guarantee there will NOT be an auction or sale of any left over Kora stakes. That doesn't mean that we can't raise the bar a little and ask any interested people to 'contribute' in some way. The first round of Kora registrations included some tasks, but we weren't asking people to do any 'work' as such. If we opened up registrations again in 2-3 months for example, we could distribute Kora stakes based on a non-monetary contribution that doesn't advantage people from high exchange rate countries.

That is a key requirement for me. A small bitcoin amount to me, like 0.01 btc, IS NOT small to someone from a low exchange rate country, so having an auction for any left-over stakes is non-negotiable as far as I am concerned. We can however, ask that round two Kora registration users agree to contribute some "hours" to Kora. That could be promotion, writing, dev, artwork, slogan writing etc etc. Anything useful Smiley

Anyway, lets see what people think, and then we will decide as a community!

9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Kora::Sibling of Qora::Free & Fair distribution::REGISTRATION COUNTDOWN!! on: June 23, 2014, 06:29:59 AM

Registration for Kora - launch time countdown!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Kora registration webapp link is

Kora :: Sibling of Qora :: Free & Fair distribution :: Stakes issued on NXT AE :: Launched after Qora source code released

Mission statement: Bootstrap Kora, a clone of Qora with a free & fair equal distribution on a mass scale to over 3,000 stakeholders.

Registration webapp URL published soon!!

Kora registration procedures:

The rules are simple:
1. You must only register once per household (multiple IPs not allowed).
2. You must fill out all fields of the form properly and follow the instructions.
3. Your BTT account must have a reg date BEFORE today, 06/23.
4. If your account is older than 3 months - 20 posts minimum
5. If your account is younger than 1 month - 40 posts minimum
6. There will be 'extra' requirements for users who do not meet requirements in 4. and 5. above. More details to come
7. You must be one of the first 3000* to register in order to qualify for a stake.

We'll need to collect:
1. Your NXT numeric ID.
2. Your BTT account ID*.
3. Your email address.
4. Some other information, you'll see what it is when applying.

Here's what will happen IN ORDER:
1. Registrations will automatically close after 3000* entries have been submitted.
2. Afterward, automatic checks will be made to verify NXT numeric IDs and BTT account IDs* of all 3000 entries. Please make sure your NXT ID appears in the blockchain explorer (http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi). Those not found to be valid will be manually contacted over email or PM and asked to send back a valid information. There will be some kind of deadline for this.
3. Any entry with suspicious information (for example close to identical data to another entry) will be manually flagged as invalid. If this happens, a new registration will open since we haven't got 3000 valid entries.
4. Anyone who has applied without having confirmed their email address will have a limited time to do so before their submission becomes invalid (not before 48 hours). Please don't worry if it takes a while for your mail to arrive. No one can steal your place while you wait for it. If you're worried about your confirmation mail, PM Mac Red for help. We can always send you another one to the same address.
5. If we don't fill up all spaces after these steps, a new registration will open. This will be announced at least 24 hours beforehand.

* 3000 entries does not count those automatically flagged as sockpuppets. Register once per household and you have nothing to worry about. You will know after registration has closed if your entry is really valid. Until then, just register and be patient.

* Don't know what your BTT account ID is?
"Go to the taskbar at the top of the page under "News: Bitcoin 0.8.6 is now available.", and click profile. Then, under "profile info", click summary. If you look at the URL it will have something like: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=[account id];sa=summary , so whatever u equals is your account id."

10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Kora::100%POS|FREE|Registration webapp BOUNTY|-5% Kora coins + 2 bitcoin on: May 23, 2014, 02:19:39 AM
I am offering a bounty for the creation and operation of a webapp registration system for a new POS coin, Kora, which is a clone of Qora.

Kora coins will be free, and the registration process is THE most critical task for Kora!

The bounty for this task will be 5% of the total supply of Kora coins (the exact coin supply figure has yet to be finalised), and 2 bitcoins for expenses & a guaranteed return (maybe Kora will fail and the 5% of Kora coins would be worthless).

The bitcoins will be paid upon completion of the registration process, and the subsequent delivery of the registration list in an agreed format. The 5% of Kora coins will be paid in the form of 'Kora tokens' on the NXT AE.

I am leaving the design details for the webapp system itself up to the successful applicant.

The registration goal is simple: ONE Stake for One Human, with the widest possible distribution to at least 3,000 unique humans.

The registration system must therefore employ multiple account countermeasures to prevent abuse, and the minimum number of registrations must be ~3,000 unique people. Get creative, but please don't use country specific solutions - Kora is global, so if your solution makes it impossible for some people to apply, then I can't accept that solution

Each unique stakeholder name on the registration list must be matched with a valid NXT address (to allow for the distribution of the 'Kora tokens' on the NXT AE) so the registration webapp needs to get a *valid* NXT address from each stakeholder applicant during their registration process.

If you are interested please send me a PM with an outline of your solution, and a brief summary of your skills & experience. Please make sure your PM covers how you intend to prevent multiple accounts. You are being paid to 'guarantee' the integrity of the stakeholder registration list, so without an explanation of how you will tackle the problem of multiple accounts I can't take you on. I understand it may be impossible to prevent multiple accounts with 100% certainty, but I want the registration system for Kora to set the new high water mark for other coins to follow.

I will put the 2 bitcoins into escrow for payment after the completed stakeholder registration list of ~3,000 names has been sent to me.

Announcement
Friends and supporters of ORA, I am very pleased to announce that ORA will be a Monetary System (MS) currency running on top of the NXT platform.

As you will no doubt be aware, the founding members of ORA have taken quite a while to survey and consider all the current  tech options  available to us, and in the end the choice was obvious to ALL of us, and the decision was unanimous!

When the ORA project was launched in May we made it clear that our first task was community building, and we would attempt at every stage to create a fully decentralized, robust, & leaderless organizational structure to best match the goals and ideals of the crypto currency pioneers like Satoshi Nakamoto and BCNext.

ORA is a ‘Starfish’,  and over the last six months we have learnt a lot from NXT, which by any measure is THE most decentralized and robust of all current crypto currency communities to date. It seems fitting therefore, that ORA will become one of the first MS currencies using the NXT monetary system - the little ORA starfish riding on top of the bigger NXT starfish.

Organisational structure is critical to long-term success, and NXT is decentralised, leaderless and open to everyone and anyone, just as ORA is!

When CFB first suggested this option in June the only real reservation was that ORA would be dependent on the NXT platform for its very existence. Six months on, as NXT celebrates its first birthday we believe the connection with NXT is a major advantage for ORA. The NXT ecosystem is resilient, vibrant, and grows stronger every day, and the development output over the last 12 months has been truly staggering. NXT is obviously here to stay!

We believe the NXT platform offers ORA long term network stability, just as TCP/IP offers stability for higher order protocols like HTTP, FTP, SMTP, and this stability will allow us to focus our resources and attention on the more ‘retail’ level concerns, like user experience, leaving the ‘backstage’ grunt work of network security and stability for NXT.

With ORA as an MS currency we are confident that the NXT network is established and robust, and we can safely leave the tasks of network security to the NXT platform, and that lets ORA focus on ‘higher order’ tasks, like usability, marketing, real world uses, and community building.

The synergies possible with NXT made this an easy and obvious choice!

NXT really is like TCP/IP for crypto now, and the ORA mind-set has always been about finding success through working co-operatively with other projects, so re-inventing the network security 'wheel' ourselves seems like a waste of resources.

After observing NXT closely over the last 12 months we know its future is very bright, and this choice does in some way go towards fulfilling some of BCNext’s ultimate goals for NXT.

As always, we welcome any feedback our stakeholders might have, and we take this opportunity to invite all people to join us, particularly those with dev skills who are interested in developing the ORA applications that will run on NXT. Remember, ORA has considerable community funds, and after six months we have established ourselves as an honest and credible group of people interested in advancing the crypto currency movement. If you are looking for a crypto project to get involved with then please consider helping ORA!

Update 1:
We have a dev working on the registration system!! Estimated time to registrations opening ~4-5 weeks (late June)

Update 2
I'm proposing the following distribution schedule for maximum effectiveness:
50% - distributed equally to ~3000 webapp registration applicants
5% - goes to the registration webapp dev
5% -goes to the dev who clones Qora, and creates the Kora wallet applications
10% - goes to node bot bounties
5% - website & marketing
25% - POWER BOUNTIES - more details- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=620518.msg7013753#msg7013753
As always, this is the brainstorming thread, so have your say NOW!

Update 5:
To avoid confusion we have changed the account activity rules slightly.

The new rules are as follows.
a) Your BTT account is older than 3 months and has less than 20 quality posts
b) Your BTT account is younger than 3 month and has less than 40 quality posts

Remember, you can still apply if your BTT account activity puts you into a) or b) above, you'll just have an extra hurdle to jump over to register for Kora. We're trying to strike a balance - stop multiple account abuse from sockpuppets but not disadvantage new users of this forum.

Update 6:
The Kora registration webapp link is

Update 7:
Final distribution plan - announced prior to the registration launch
50% - distributed equally to ~3000 webapp registration applicants
5% - goes to the registration webapp dev
5% - goes to the dev who clones Qora, and creates the Kora wallet applications
2% - Kora founder
8% - goes to node bot bounties
4% - website & marketing
1% - Qora dev
25% - POWER BOUNTIES

Slightly changed the distribution. Added 2% for me, 1% for Qora dev, and dropped node bounties down to 8% (from 10%), and website & marketing down to 4% (from 5%). I had mentioned my share but had not confirmed the amount, and the 1% for Qora was a suggestion I really liked!

Update 8:
Great news! Kora has a lead developer

I am very pleased to report that nioccoin has agreed to join Kora and will set the technical direction for us from now on. I'll leave it for nioccoin to say more on his plans later, but for now I just want to say how excited I am to have nioccoin join us.

Update 9:
Please visit the Kora BTT ID Confirmation Topic to confirm your stake - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=673025.new#new

Unfortunately forum mods locked our confirmation thread. Please send a PM to Mac Red to confirm now!

Simply post one time in this topic from the account you used to apply with. Post something positive, like why you registered for Kora, or what your hopes for the future of Kora are! This is all you have to do in this topic. Our automatic system will then find and validate your BTT ID.

Note: This topic will not be used for discussing Kora. We will not answer any questions there. If you have any question/comment post it 'here' in the main topic:

If you have not yet registered for a stake you can grab one here (it's free): http://www.koracoin.com
Important: Be sure to read the rules in the main topic before registering!

Please vote in our Poll, "What should we do with any left over stakes?"
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=673587.msg7629545#msg7629545

Update 11:
We have started a Kora development discussion thread - come and have your say on Kora technical development Smiley
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=675484.0

Update 12:
We have decided to extend the registration period slightly. It will end 5 days from now, on Tuesday 07/08.

The reason is because we'd like to get some more registrations from non-sockpuppets before closing the form. It's also nice to get some more time to verify BTT IDs (even though we'll of course continue doing this even after the end date if needed).

This is the first and only time we extend the end date for registrations (not counting possible re-openings in the future).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So to re-cap, if you want in, do this:
1. Read the rules in OP
2. Register at www.koracoin.com
3. Confirm your email
4. Make sure you've submitted your BTT ID correctly @ http://www.koracoin.com/checkbttid
5. Send me (Mac Red) a PM from the BTT account you applied with
6. Wait and be patient for registrations to close and for us to manually verify all entries.  Cool

If you got any questions/concerns/some info you want me to edit and so on, send me a PM and I'll reply as soon as I'm available (and I've replied to the users in queue before you).

Thank you.

Darkhorse & fragORA(formerly fragout) will become "keepers" of the left over stakes and 'power bounty' funds after the initial first round distribution! The importance of having well respected community members in these positions can't be overstated, and I'm personally very excited & honoured to have Darkhorse and fragORA on the team!! Thanks guys Smiley

Update 17:
What's in a name? A lot, and we've changed ours to ORA!!
After some community debate we have decided to change our name to ORA! It's short, looks good, sounds good, and it'll hopefully avoid confusion with our Qora. I like the name, and I'm hoping in years to come the ORA 'brand' will grow into something we're ALL proud of!

Introducing 'Cryptofest': Short Film festival
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=801933.0

Kora will have 10,000,000,000 coins, equally shared to all stakeholders.
I'm taking advice on the best coin supply total, so let me know your opinions. I've allowed myself to be convinced by some well thought out reasoning that 50 Million Kora is *probably* better than 10 billion.

You can help!
Developer team, stakeholder registration team, web & network infrastructure team, marketing team - everything is open - we are bootstrapping a community from the ground up. Here is your chance - what would the 'ultimate' crypto community look & feel like? Let us know! Got an idea? Join Kora and make it happen.

Kora: the plan so far!
  • Free distribution - 1 stake for 1 human
  • Fair distribution - sockpuppet countermeasures will be used to prevent multiple accounts
  • Stakes will be issued on the NXT asset exchange after stakeholder registration is completed
  • Development, marketing, community & network infrastructure will be funded using development stakes
  • Kora will be launched AFTER Qora source is released
  • You will be able to trade your Kora stake on the NXT AE regardless of when the Qora source is released

Note: This is not the registration thread for Kora. This is a call to action! We need your ideas & your help & your committment! Post ideas & support, BUT understand that the official stakeholder registration will be later. Posting in this thread does NOT mean you have registered for a stake in Kora. YOU CAN HELP! How should we organise the Kora stakeholder registration? Let us Know!!

Kora will be a new crypto-currency designed from the ground up to solve Bitcoin’s biggest problems while also adding new promising features. Kora is based on Qora, which has been built from scratch and will not rely on any other crypto-currency. Kora uses a new proof-of-stake algorithm making it future-proof.

Kora is a clone of Qora which has been developed in Java and relies on native C libraries to perform the most CPU intensive tasks.

Guaranteed Features
1)   Ed25519 DSA to verify and sign messages.
2)   1-5 minute block time depending on the network activity.
3)   Retargeting every 10 blocks.
4)   Password protected wallets that can be recovered/generated from seeds.
5)   New Proof-of-Stake algorithm.
6)   A JSON RPC API to directly communicate with the client.
7)   Naming Service: Allows the user to register a key-value pair which can be used for various purposes (URLS, addresses, …)
This Naming Service will also include an exchange where users can buy and sell keys.
8 )   Colored Coins/Assets.
9)   Arbitrary Transactions: A simple feature which allows users to send any payload they want over the network. This can be used by third-parties to build additional features on top of Kora (data storage, chat).
10)   Transaction Boosting: Higher transaction processing speed by not having to broadcast the transactions to the whole network.

Possible Features
1)   Anonymous transactions/Zerocoin: One of the biggest problems of Bitcoin is of course that every transaction is traceable. Currently Zerocoin is the most promising project which is trying to solve that problem in a decentralized way.
2)   Cross Blockchain trading.
3)   Finite Blockchain/Blockchain shrinking.
Kora will be the first second generation 'super coin'. We know how to assemble the elements for the 'ultimate' crypto currency, and Kora will learn from the successes & failures of all previous coins.

The sad truth is NXT and Qora are both very promising crypto currencies, but both have suffered from small exclusive distributions. The IPOs were both open and public, but neither achieved widespread adoption, and both suffer from too many large whales, and perceptions that both coins are 'unfair'.

- Our goal is for Kora to have at least 3,000 stakeholders at launch.
- Stakes will be distributed as tokens on the NXT AE as soon as the registration process is over, and the final stakeholder list is completed.

We will learn from NEM (community building)
We will learn from NHZ (node payment bot)
We will learn from ShareCoin (sockpuppet countermeasures)
We will learn from EVERY coin that has gone before

"The foundation of any global crypto currency will be a large, engaged, and active community using and promoting a cutting edge POS coin."

1 -100% POS coins are superior to POW coins
2- A free, fair & WIDE distribution is better than a paid IPO that results in a very small initial distribution
3- Learn from the collective experience of every coin that has gone before!

NXT - great coin, bad distribution - 73 stakeholders - Grade 'C'
Qora - great coin, bad distribution - 137 stakeholders - Grade 'C'
NEM - great coin (we hope!) - great distribution - BUT controversial (sockpuppets, paid IPO) - Grade 'B'
Kora - great coin - great distribution - no controversy - great community - Grade 'A'

Kora - great coin - great distribution - sockpuppet countermeasures - Free - development will be funded using developer stakes

- 100 Proof-of-stake [POS]
- Free shares
- NO IPO - development will be paid for using development stakes
- Community building - our aim is to launch with at least 3,000 stakeholders using the principal "one stake for each unique human"

Join Kora and make a difference!
