Welcome to ORA!

ORA is a leaderless, decentralised 'starfish' community software development project announced on May 22, 2014. 889 people initially registered between June 24 - July 8, 2014 for a FREE stake of 166,666 assets each. The remaining ORA assets were held in trust for later distribution to community members & future developers. ORA asset tokens are issued as bearer assets. Whoever controls the private keys for an amount of ORA asset tokens will be eligible to redeem an equivalent amount of ORA 'coins' if/when the ORA software and P2P network is completed. The asset issuer is unable to guarantee either the completion of ORA software, or the exchange of ORA asset tokens into ORA coins. Please research the ORA project before purchasing ORA assets. The terms & conditions and date of the redemption will be finalised after community consultation.
Total assets: 1,000,000,000. For more details : http://ora.to. Issuing account : NXT-7FPB-3K2S-M9FL-ARP4G

Important Update - 25 November 2014!

Announcement
Friends and supporters of ORA, I am very pleased to announce that ORA will be a Monetary System (MS) currency running on top of the NXT platform.

As you will no doubt be aware, the founding members of ORA have taken quite a while to survey and consider all the current  tech options  available to us, and in the end the choice was obvious to ALL of us, and the decision was unanimous!

When the ORA project was launched in May we made it clear that our first task was community building, and we would attempt at every stage to create a fully decentralized, robust, & leaderless organizational structure to best match the goals and ideals of the crypto currency pioneers like Satoshi Nakamoto and BCNext.

ORA is a ‘Starfish’,  and over the last six months we have learnt a lot from NXT, which by any measure is THE most decentralized and robust of all current crypto currency communities to date. It seems fitting therefore, that ORA will become one of the first MS currencies using the NXT monetary system - the little ORA starfish riding on top of the bigger NXT starfish.

Organisational structure is critical to long-term success, and NXT is decentralised, leaderless and open to everyone and anyone, just as ORA is!

When CFB first suggested this option in June the only real reservation was that ORA would be dependent on the NXT platform for its very existence. Six months on, as NXT celebrates its first birthday we believe the connection with NXT is a major advantage for ORA. The NXT ecosystem is resilient, vibrant, and grows stronger every day, and the development output over the last 12 months has been truly staggering. NXT is obviously here to stay!

We believe the NXT platform offers ORA long term network stability, just as TCP/IP offers stability for higher order protocols like HTTP, FTP, SMTP, and this stability will allow us to focus our resources and attention on the more ‘retail’ level concerns, like user experience, leaving the ‘backstage’ grunt work of network security and stability for NXT.

With ORA as an MS currency we are confident that the NXT network is established and robust, and we can safely leave the tasks of network security to the NXT platform, and that lets ORA focus on ‘higher order’ tasks, like usability, marketing, real world uses, and community building.

The synergies possible with NXT made this an easy and obvious choice!

NXT really is like TCP/IP for crypto now, and the ORA mind-set has always been about finding success through working co-operatively with other projects, so re-inventing the network security 'wheel' ourselves seems like a waste of resources.

After observing NXT closely over the last 12 months we know its future is very bright, and this choice does in some way go towards fulfilling some of BCNext’s ultimate goals for NXT.

As always, we welcome any feedback our stakeholders might have, and we take this opportunity to invite all people to join us, particularly those with dev skills who are interested in developing the ORA applications that will run on NXT. Remember, ORA has considerable community funds, and after six months we have established ourselves as an honest and credible group of people interested in advancing the crypto currency movement. If you are looking for a crypto project to get involved with then please consider helping ORA!

FAQ's

ORA distribution has started (30th July 2014)

ORA stakeholder list has been released

ORA ::  Free & Fair distribution :: Stakes issued on NXT AE

Mission statement: Bootstrap ORA, with a free & fair equal distribution on a mass scale to over 3,000 stakeholders.

ORA threads
main thread
dev discussion
logo discussion
bounty discussion
CryptoFest

Update 1:
We have a dev working on the registration system!! Estimated time to registrations opening ~4-5 weeks (late June)

Update 2
I'm proposing the following distribution schedule for maximum effectiveness:
50% - distributed equally to ~3000 webapp registration applicants
5% - goes to the registration webapp dev
5% -goes to the dev who clones Qora, and creates the Kora wallet applications
10% - goes to node bot bounties
5% - website & marketing
25% - POWER BOUNTIES - more details- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=620518.msg7013753#msg7013753
As always, this is the brainstorming thread, so have your say NOW!

Update 3:
Registration Launch time set (see above)

Update 4:
Kora registration procedures:
The rules are simple:
1. You must only register once per household (multiple IPs not allowed).
2. You must fill out all fields of the form properly and follow the instructions.
3. Your BTT account must have a reg date BEFORE today, 06/23.
4. If your account is older than 3 months - 20 posts minimum
5. If your account is younger than 1 month - 40 posts minimum
6. There will be 'extra' requirements for users who do not meet requirements in 4. and 5. above. More details to come
7. You must be one of the first 3000* to register in order to qualify for a stake.

We'll need to collect:
1. Your NXT numeric ID.
2. Your BTT account ID*.
3. Your email address.
4. Some other information, you'll see what it is when applying.

Here's what will happen IN ORDER:
1. Registrations will automatically close after 3000* entries have been submitted.
2. Afterward, automatic checks will be made to verify NXT numeric IDs and BTT account IDs* of all 3000 entries. Please make sure your NXT ID appears in the blockchain explorer (http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi). Those not found to be valid will be manually contacted over email or PM and asked to send back a valid information. There will be some kind of deadline for this.
3. Any entry with suspicious information (for example close to identical data to another entry) will be manually flagged as invalid. If this happens, a new registration will open since we haven't got 3000 valid entries.
4. Anyone who has applied without having confirmed their email address will have a limited time to do so before their submission becomes invalid (not before 48 hours). Please don't worry if it takes a while for your mail to arrive. No one can steal your place while you wait for it. If you're worried about your confirmation mail, PM Mac Red for help. We can always send you another one to the same address.
5. If we don't fill up all spaces after these steps, a new registration will open. This will be announced at least 24 hours beforehand.

* 3000 entries does not count those automatically flagged as sockpuppets. Register once per household and you have nothing to worry about. You will know after registration has closed if your entry is really valid. Until then, just register and be patient.

* Don't know what your BTT account ID is?
"Go to the taskbar at the top of the page under "News: Bitcoin 0.8.6 is now available.", and click profile. Then, under "profile info", click summary. If you look at the URL it will have something like: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=[account id];sa=summary , so whatever u equals is your account id."

Update 5:
To avoid confusion we have changed the account activity rules slightly.

The new rules are as follows.
a) Your BTT account is older than 3 months and has less than 20 quality posts
b) Your BTT account is younger than 3 month and has less than 40 quality posts

Remember, you can still apply if your BTT account activity puts you into a) or b) above, you'll just have an extra hurdle to jump over to register for Kora. We're trying to strike a balance - stop multiple account abuse from sockpuppets but not disadvantage new users of this forum.

Update 6:
The Kora registration webapp link is

Update 7:
Final distribution plan - announced prior to the registration launch
50% - distributed equally to ~3000 webapp registration applicants
5% - goes to the registration webapp dev
5% - goes to the dev who clones Qora, and creates the Kora wallet applications
2% - Kora founder
8% - goes to node bot bounties
4% - website & marketing
1% - Qora dev
25% - POWER BOUNTIES

Slightly changed the distribution. Added 2% for me, 1% for Qora dev, and dropped node bounties down to 8% (from 10%), and website & marketing down to 4% (from 5%). I had mentioned my share but had not confirmed the amount, and the 1% for Qora was a suggestion I really liked!

Update 8:
Great news! Kora has a lead developer

I am very pleased to report that nioccoin has agreed to join Kora and will set the technical direction for us from now on. I'll leave it for nioccoin to say more on his plans later, but for now I just want to say how excited I am to have nioccoin join us.

Update 9:
Please visit the Kora BTT ID Confirmation Topic to confirm your stake - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=673025.new#new

Unfortunately forum mods locked our confirmation thread. Please send a PM to Mac Red to confirm now!

Simply post one time in this topic from the account you used to apply with. Post something positive, like why you registered for Kora, or what your hopes for the future of Kora are! This is all you have to do in this topic. Our automatic system will then find and validate your BTT ID.

Note: This topic will not be used for discussing Kora. We will not answer any questions there. If you have any question/comment post it 'here' in the main topic:

If you have not yet registered for a stake you can grab one here (it's free): http://www.koracoin.com
Important: Be sure to read the rules in the main topic before registering!

Update 10:
Please vote in our Poll, "What should we do with any left over stakes?"
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=673587.msg7629545#msg7629545

Update 11:
We have started a Kora development discussion thread - come and have your say on Kora technical development Smiley
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=675484.0

Update 12:
We have decided to extend the registration period slightly. It will end 5 days from now, on Tuesday 07/08.

The reason is because we'd like to get some more registrations from non-sockpuppets before closing the form. It's also nice to get some more time to verify BTT IDs (even though we'll of course continue doing this even after the end date if needed).

This is the first and only time we extend the end date for registrations (not counting possible re-openings in the future).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So to re-cap, if you want in, do this:
1. Read the rules in OP
2. Register at www.koracoin.com
3. Confirm your email
4. Make sure you've submitted your BTT ID correctly @ http://www.koracoin.com/checkbttid
5. Send me (Mac Red) a PM from the BTT account you applied with
6. Wait and be patient for registrations to close and for us to manually verify all entries.  Cool

If you got any questions/concerns/some info you want me to edit and so on, send me a PM and I'll reply as soon as I'm available (and I've replied to the users in queue before you).

Thank you.

Have fun Smiley

Update 16:
Great news! We have two community treasurers on board!!
Darkhorse & fragORA(formerly fragout) will become "keepers" of the left over stakes and 'power bounty' funds after the initial first round distribution! The importance of having well respected community members in these positions can't be overstated, and I'm personally very excited & honoured to have Darkhorse and fragORA on the team!! Thanks guys Smiley

Update 17:
What's in a name? A lot, and we've changed ours to ORA!!
After some community debate we have decided to change our name to ORA! It's short, looks good, sounds good, and it'll hopefully avoid confusion with our Qora. I like the name, and I'm hoping in years to come the ORA 'brand' will grow into something we're ALL proud of!

Update 18:
ORA distribution has started!
Darkhorse is working his way through the list manually now! Unfortunately there was a problem with the asset distribution plugin that prevented the automatic transfer.

Update 24:
Introducing 'Cryptofest': Short Film festival
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=801933.0

Kora will have 10,000,000,000 coins, equally shared to all stakeholders.
I'm taking advice on the best coin supply total, so let me know your opinions. I've allowed myself to be convinced by some well thought out reasoning that 50 Million Kora is *probably* better than 10 billion.

You can help!
Developer team, stakeholder registration team, web & network infrastructure team, marketing team - everything is open - we are bootstrapping a community from the ground up. Here is your chance - what would the 'ultimate' crypto community look & feel like? Let us know! Got an idea? Join Kora and make it happen.

Kora: the plan so far!
  • Free distribution - 1 stake for 1 human
  • Fair distribution - sockpuppet countermeasures will be used to prevent multiple accounts
  • Stakes will be issued on the NXT asset exchange after stakeholder registration is completed
  • Development, marketing, community & network infrastructure will be funded using development stakes
  • Kora will be launched AFTER Qora source is released
  • You will be able to trade your Kora stake on the NXT AE regardless of when the Qora source is released

Note: This is not the registration thread for Kora. This is a call to action! We need your ideas & your help & your committment! Post ideas & support, BUT understand that the official stakeholder registration will be later. Posting in this thread does NOT mean you have registered for a stake in Kora. YOU CAN HELP! How should we organise the Kora stakeholder registration? Let us Know!!

Kora will be a new crypto-currency designed from the ground up to solve Bitcoin’s biggest problems while also adding new promising features. Kora is based on Qora, which has been built from scratch and will not rely on any other crypto-currency. Kora uses a new proof-of-stake algorithm making it future-proof.

Kora is a clone of Qora which has been developed in Java and relies on native C libraries to perform the most CPU intensive tasks.

Guaranteed Features
1)   Ed25519 DSA to verify and sign messages.
2)   1-5 minute block time depending on the network activity.
3)   Retargeting every 10 blocks.
4)   Password protected wallets that can be recovered/generated from seeds.
5)   New Proof-of-Stake algorithm.
6)   A JSON RPC API to directly communicate with the client.
7)   Naming Service: Allows the user to register a key-value pair which can be used for various purposes (URLS, addresses, …)
This Naming Service will also include an exchange where users can buy and sell keys.
8 )   Colored Coins/Assets.
9)   Arbitrary Transactions: A simple feature which allows users to send any payload they want over the network. This can be used by third-parties to build additional features on top of Kora (data storage, chat).
10)   Transaction Boosting: Higher transaction processing speed by not having to broadcast the transactions to the whole network.

Possible Features
1)   Anonymous transactions/Zerocoin: One of the biggest problems of Bitcoin is of course that every transaction is traceable. Currently Zerocoin is the most promising project which is trying to solve that problem in a decentralized way.
2)   Cross Blockchain trading.
3)   Finite Blockchain/Blockchain shrinking.
Kora will be the first second generation 'super coin'. We know how to assemble the elements for the 'ultimate' crypto currency, and Kora will learn from the successes & failures of all previous coins.

The sad truth is NXT and Qora are both very promising crypto currencies, but both have suffered from small exclusive distributions. The IPOs were both open and public, but neither achieved widespread adoption, and both suffer from too many large whales, and perceptions that both coins are 'unfair'.

- Our goal is for Kora to have at least 3,000 stakeholders at launch.
- Stakes will be distributed as tokens on the NXT AE as soon as the registration process is over, and the final stakeholder list is completed.

We will learn from NEM (community building)
We will learn from NHZ (node payment bot)
We will learn from ShareCoin (sockpuppet countermeasures)
We will learn from EVERY coin that has gone before

"The foundation of any global crypto currency will be a large, engaged, and active community using and promoting a cutting edge POS coin."

1 -100% POS coins are superior to POW coins
2- A free, fair & WIDE distribution is better than a paid IPO that results in a very small initial distribution
3- Learn from the collective experience of every coin that has gone before!

NXT - great coin, bad distribution - 73 stakeholders - Grade 'C'
Qora - great coin, bad distribution - 137 stakeholders - Grade 'C'
NEM - great coin (we hope!) - great distribution - BUT controversial (sockpuppets, paid IPO) - Grade 'B'
Kora - great coin - great distribution - no controversy - great community - Grade 'A'

Kora - great coin - great distribution - sockpuppet countermeasures - Free - development will be funded using developer stakes

- 100 Proof-of-stake [POS]
- Free shares
- NO IPO - development will be paid for using development stakes
- Community building - our aim is to launch with at least 3,000 stakeholders using the principal "one stake for each unique human"

Join Kora and make a difference!

This looks intresting, however you should have come up with prepared solution and had everything planned.

That is one way (a prepared solution), but I'm not assuming I have all the best ideas, and I think Kora would benefit from a lot of input from others (I was using the royal 'We' - the 'we' refers only to 'me').

Many people will clone Qora, so all those thinking along those lines could join Kora if they want. If someone wants to take this idea and 'prepare a solution' themselves - GREAT!! I'll be sure to follow their registration procedures and join up Smiley

I just don't think we've seen a 'great' coin yet, one that has put  ALL the elements together at the same time - tech, distribution, community, marketing - NEM is probably doing the best at the moment because they are taking a period to 'get things right' - plan, build, strategise - then launch. Their first month was chaotic with all the 'sockpuppet' drama, but they got through that, but wow, what a complete waste of time with all that stakeholder/sockpuppet hunting.

NXt & Qora are both fantastic, but their IPO's were failures as far as building 'communities'. NXT has survived and is doing well - I fear Qora wont do as well because people wont accept the same thing twice (big whales, unfair distribution etc etc). Kora is an attempt to build a community for a Qora clone, and also a suggestion to others - join Kora, or do your own 'thing' , but whatever you do, plan first, and do it right.
