1  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Does wallet.dat ever expose private keys? on: December 07, 2017, 04:22:52 PM
Is there any chance that a hacker gets to see all of your private keys? or he would need to have a RAT installed on your computer and enter the "dumpprivkey" command on every address WHILE your Core client is opened and unlocked?

And the HD wallet.dat from Core does have a seed that could be hacked? (with all of your funds on it). Im still using the good ol wallet.dat (it shows HD is not enabled) and I was wondering about that..
2  Economy / Economics / CNBC hosts are worried about BTC being x3 oz of gold on: August 08, 2017, 03:04:29 PM
https://www.cnbc.com/video/2017/08/07/bitcoin-hits-all-time-high.html?play=1

This is a must see. It's fun to see these clueless guys at "this bitcoin thing" going so high. They said they are worried because now BTC is worth 3 times an oz of gold. If only they knew this is only the beginning.

I think it will take for BTC to reach $10,000 for them to accept the new Bitcoin reality, it's then when all of these rich boomers will be getting into BTC and the price will go parabolic.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / The Electrum LTC website was hacked in Jul 31 on: August 02, 2017, 03:52:01 PM
Im surprised that I haven't seen this mentioned. This is serious. I have always thought that falling for a man in the middle attack is extremely unlucky, but some people may have been affected. There was a brief period where the executable was compromised. If you downloaded anything from the Electrum website in Jul 31, I would definitely format my computer.

Official statement as follows:

https://electrum-ltc.org/#notice

Quote

IMPORTANT NOTICE

On July 31, around 13:00 UTC, an attacker exploited a vulnerability in the virtualization software employed by this website's host to replace the sources and Windows binaries of Electrum-LTC 2.8.3.5 with modified versions. We were made aware of the issue by 17:30 UTC, and promptly restored the original files. We then proceeded to carefully move the website to a new host that would be immune to said vulnerabilities.

If you downloaded a source distribution or a Windows binary of Electrum-LTC 2.8.3.5 from this website during the above time range, and did not verify its digital signature, your computer may have been infected by malware, and you should take action immediately. Note that the digital signatures have been available and valid all along.
4  Other / Politics & Society / Do you think the elections are rigged? on: November 01, 2016, 05:53:20 PM
I keep hearing people saying how the elections are rigged in order to make Hillary win. I just wonder if this is some sort of conspiracy theory or there is tangible evidence to support this claim?
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Investing in ICO vs buying in the exchange on: August 30, 2016, 12:13:25 AM
What are the statistics on this? What is the best thing to do?

For example, at what price the NXT ICO was selling at? NXT has been on a perpetual downtrend since Poloniex added it. At what rate was NXT trading before Poloniex in smaller exchanges?

But ETH ICO was a great investment, same for Synereo and others.

Im not sure yet if its cheaper to wait for a exchange or buy at the ICO.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Can BTC become as fungible as XMR? on: August 28, 2016, 04:35:53 PM
Do you think XMR fungibility can make BTC lose marketcap due XMR gaining a lot of what is in dark market action?
Didn't XMR had problems to scale that couldn't be solved?
What happens if XMR reaches higher transaction volume at BTC's level, isn't this a big problem for XMR?
And finally... can BTC eventually render all those anonymous niche coins irrelevant thanks to increased privacy like CT and mimble wimble stuff?

I was considering entering in the XMR market since im not sure if BTC will be able to become anonymous enough, but at the same time, im not sure if it will be viable for XMR to function with actual usage since it seems their blockchain has serious speed and bloat issues, then at that point it will not be a competitor against BTC with the improvements in privacy which should be enough for the people that use dark markets...

I would like gmaxwell's opinion since he is the expert on this and was also holding some XMR I think.

I just don't know if this is all hype fueled by news without any technical fundamentals into it. Maybe XMR has developed a solution to scale that I have missed?
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Any ICOs you are holding? on: August 27, 2016, 03:59:50 PM
ICOs are a way to get rich.. if you are holding enough of the right coin, you may find yourself with huge gains. Of course, how many ICOs end up making you more money than you invested? Probably not many.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / BTC moving back to ETC? on: August 27, 2016, 03:53:37 PM
We say a BTC dip when the ETC pump was ongoing. ETC seems to have bottomed and it has been rising since a couple of days ago. Considering the hacker is not dumb and will not dump to get caught by authorities, he will help to pump it too.

I have this feel about a huge ETC pump coming again.
9  Economy / Speculation / At what price we would be at if Btifinex disaster didn't happen? on: August 26, 2016, 06:25:49 PM
I often think about this nowadays. We were on a spectacular uptrend. Core team was about to launch 0.13 and the halving happened, we were on the good track, but Bitfinex happened, ruining the good uptrend with the stupid ass dump. Fortunately we recovered quick, but the uptrend is not as strong and will take some more time now to go 1000+ again.
10  Economy / Speculation / Testing 600 again on: August 10, 2016, 06:57:46 PM
Bitcoin is recovering at a record breaking pace. All the FUDsters that where here saying how Bitcoin would need months to recover from the bitfinex disaster have vanished. We will be up soon back to 650 and getting ready for 2000+ for 2017. Get in.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Do coins get lost at a bigger rate than they are created? on: August 10, 2016, 06:37:01 PM
We don't stop seeing people saying how they lost passwords, hard drives and so on, losing coins forever.

Is this rate of coins being lost bigger than the rate coins are being generated at?
12  Economy / Speculation / Time to buy cheap coins on: June 23, 2016, 05:04:35 PM
China and global whales are shaking weak hands, time to buy while the price starts going up again due FOMO. Good news incoming too to push the next bull cycle soon. Good luck.
13  Economy / Speculation / Any $1000 parties scheluded? on: June 17, 2016, 01:42:53 AM
I remember the first time we hit $1000, there were some parties where bitcoin holders meet and had some drinks.

This time we are stronger and more robust, $1000 will be crossed with confidence.

Any places to celebrate annnounced yet?
14  Economy / Speculation / A lot of salty people right now on: June 12, 2016, 12:30:57 AM
All those FUDsters that like to gather on this subforum saying we would never reach 400, then 500, then 600... they keep getting proven wrong, they stay poor while we become rich

#winningteam
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / How to keep track of several cryptos at once? on: November 05, 2015, 07:40:16 PM
Im mostly on Bitcoin of course, but I hold like 5 different other cryptos. Im wonder if there is something where I can store how much coins do I have and keep track of them with a nice graphic that shows me the total gains/loses over time in dollars and BTC.
16  Economy / Gambling discussion / Mayweather vs Berto: easy money? on: August 27, 2015, 04:39:57 PM
Mayweather is supposed to retire September 12 with his latest fight against Berto. The odds are obviously against Berto, which means you will need to risk a pretty big amount of money to make good profits if you go for Mayweather, but honestly who doesn't think Mayweather will win?
So if you've got the balls and the money, putting a lot of money into Mayweather winning his latest boxing match seems like a safe bet.
Again, it's your money so im not responsible for any loses, just wanna make a thread on this fight for the boxing fans.
17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Best alternative to blockchain.info? on: August 05, 2015, 05:57:35 PM
From what i've been researching since yesterday's incident (see this if not aware: http://www.coindesk.com/no-satoshi-nakamoto-hasnt-moved-a-thing/) using blockchain.info is not a good idea since it shows inaccurate data. So my question is: what is a the best block explorer out there?
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / A prankster trying to pay some clueless bus guy with Bitcoin on: October 18, 2014, 09:31:22 PM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Q6gYE2vOfI&t=1m34s

Funny shit. Unfortunately, this is what you get 99% of the times when you try to use Bitcoin as an actual currency. People have no clue and it's still a small niche of an audience, which is mostly wealthy investors, early adopters, and people trying to catch on. Hopefully this will someday change... I still don't see how tho.
