Ok, we all know what's going on with spying on the Internet by now. Getting the information out was just the first step. The heroic effort made by Edward Snowden won't go too far if we the people do nothing and just forget about it in a week or two.

The video below is a 2.5 hour testimony of an ex-Navy Seal member Bill Wood (Brockbrader) who spent 10 years in northern Iraq  (1991 - 2001) as part of a secret Seal Team 9 unit responsible for targeting of the Tomahawk missiles on the final stage of their trajectory. In the end of the video he touches on the topic of black projects developed under immense degree of secrecy.

The testimony was released by Project Camelot about a year and a half ago and gathered about 300K views on YT and still counting. Bill was later caught by authorities and charged with some sex-related charges (seems like a pattern for whistle-blowers) which only adds to the legitimacy of his story. I believe Bill's disclosure was as important as most recent leaks and it deserves any attention it could possibly get.

Since Ripple doesn't require storing your wallet locally (it keeps an encrypted copy in a cloud if Payward is selected), wouldn't it be much safer to advertise using Ripple from Ubuntu (or Mint) Live CD session? And if people want to use Bitcoins at the same time (for trading) then suggest to keep small amount of them in a hot wallet in one of the exchanges or blockchain.info MyWallet (which is safer), so that live session with a browser is still enough.

Even though encryption of the wallet itself might be strong in Ripple it won't protect careless users from trojans/keyloggers that can steal your password the moment you type it in. Booting from clean Live CD every time you need to access your funds protects you from keyloggers and leaves your normal OS installation (Windows or Linux) unchanged. Something like "best security advice" on the Ripple's wallet creation page with a few easy steps would suffice.

It might take a bit more time to boot from a Live CD and you might need to change the boot order (only once) in your computer's BIOS setup to be able to do that, but in the end the added security is well worth the time and effort.

If you still find it cumbersome to play with Live CDs and prefer to work with sensitive data in your normal OS installation here is a trick how to fool the most primitive keylogger:

1) type one third* of your password
2) then type a fixed amount (1-5) of random keys**
3) then carefully delete them with your mouse (select last N symbols in the text field, right-click->Delete)
4) type another third of your password
5) repeat 2) and 3) with a different key sequence
6) type the last third of your password
7) press login

* you can divide your password into as many parts as you like, but one third is good enough for simplicity of the demonstration

** it's better to use the same (from one login to another login) pre-defined key sequences but different for their respective injection points in the password, so that they cannot be figured out by textual analysis from multiple stolen password strings for the same account.

From the keylogger's perspective your typed password would contain some garbage and won't work with your account.
Of course some keyloggers might attempt to intercept your mouse moves and clicks as well, but it seems much more difficult to figure out exactly what you typed with the approach described above.

Yet another way to protect yourself from malicious software is to create a separate secure user/workspace within your normal OS installation. Use your normal user account for day-to-day operations like reading news, working with email, chatting with friends, installing software from the Internet, etc. Use your secure user account to access your locally stored bitcoins and other sensitive information (Ripple account, Bitcoin exchanges, bank account etc). You can use this method in conjunction with method 2 described above for stronger security.

Remember that a few dozens of dollars worth of bitcoins or ripples right now might be a lot of money a few years down the road. So we'll be much better off as a community if we develop a good sense of discipline towards best security practices early on.

I like the idea of PPCoin's hybrid design, the innovation that comes with it and the way Sunny King provided support for the client and nicely scheduled updates. However I always felt that the name and the way people pronounce it (pee pee) isn't extremely marketable.

So the idea just crossed my mind to call it pePPerCoin! Or at least pronounce it that way...

It turns out that the most popular and widely taught interpretation of Quantum Mechanics, so called Copenhagen interpretation, which states that the waves of probabilities somehow collapse as a result of measurement is mathematically untenable. Well, it was just about time... Author leaves us with two options: multiple worlds model (read parallel realities, which is mathematically valid) and his own interpretation called zero worlds model, which states that there is no underlying objective reality at all and we are all creations of our thoughts. He didn't say where those thoughts come from though, but that would probably be outside of the scope of his presentation.

So the bottom line is - be careful with what you read and who you trust in mainstream science.

I've recently come across a nice presentation by Garrett Lisi suggesting that the whole "zoo" of particles and their interactions observable in modern particle physics can be described by a pure mathematical object called "exceptional simple Lie group E8".

While the theory itself is not complete yet, the implications of what is being suggested are profound. It means that the structure of physical reality isn't just a set of arbitrary rules but rather a result of a beautiful mathematical process, which in turn reinforces the idea of physical reality being a result of consciousness itself (this wasn't mentioned in the video, but rather an extrapolation on my part).

So it seems that consciousness builds structures based on math and logic or otherwise they wouldn't hold. It also seems that it attempts to find all structures that can possibly exist so that it doesn't miss anything interesting and this is why in many spiritual teachings God is referred to as All That Is:

The process of how everything started can also be described by what is called a Sacred Geometry, which is simply a set of rules on how to build structures from very simple constructs like dot, line, circle, etc.

As the video above explains, in the beginning there was consciousness (they call it Spirit of God) and the void because the consciousness hasn't manifested anything yet. The consciousness had two options: either stay in this static omni-presence indefinitely or take a first step. Eventually consciousness would start creating and since there was nothing to measure time before the first step, time didn't exist either.

If we follow the process of building structures from the start we will see at some point that there are multiple ways how to proceed forward, this is where consciousness needs to split to take on multiple paths simultaneously. I personally believe, that this feature of creation process gives rise to multiple "you"s and multiple parallel timelines even though we all still derive from that one consciousness that started the process. Below is a wonderful presentation made by Farsight institute this past summer explaining their approach to understanding remote viewing and as a result outlining their view of general vibrational structure of reality itself.

In short, all space and all time exist simultaneously as infinite wave patterns in what we call "here and now". The difference in perception of "close" and "far" in space and "back then" and "far into the future" in time is achieved by a phenomena called constructive and destructive interference. According to the presentation there is nothing else.

Basically by tuning your own frequency as a conscious observer you can create a different vibrational interference patterns (or ensembles in terms of the presentation) with waveforms of reality that are already present and surround you and thus tap into information about a particular object "far away" in space or an event "long ago" in time.

The video implies some knowledge of quantum physics and some understanding of wave-functions, but the concepts explained in the presentation itself are quite easy to grasp.

Instead of randomly electing people and giving away our power to them,
how about we keep the power to ourselves and solve the problems in a consensus-based manner.

For that we need a total transparency for (a) money transfers and (b) provable trust-free voting.
Bitcoin solves the (a) part of the problem, so we only need to create a solution for (b)

I've already proposed this in Bitcoin Foundation thread a couple of times so I will repeat it here.
It is possible for an organization with membership paid in Bitcoin to create a system with provable trust-free voting.

In this system all membership fees are collected into a single public Bitcoin address and votes are the messages signed with the private keys of the addresses that sent a full membership fee to that address.
The whole repository of these messages along with their Bitcoin addresses is then made public.
This will allow every individual member to check that his/her vote is correct and also verify that other votes come from legit members (those who paid the fee) and they in turn can verify that their vote is correct.

The members of that organization/society can then vote for variety of different things: decide where money need to be spent and how, appoint people to lead different projects to achieve certain goals and so on.
All the money flow will be transparent because the fee collection address is public.
It probably needs to be protected with multisig so that no single person can run away with the funds, but that is one of the technical details that can be worked out along the way.

PS: I can recommend this video to anyone with scientific background especially in physics. Peter Russell is a physicist and his approach is to have a scientific argument when talking about consciousness rather than rely on stuff like perception and intuition to describe it. The breakthrough comes from understanding the nature of light.
