1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / New York State and the Bitlicense on: March 29, 2021, 07:34:07 PM
So my state has this special law that makes it considerably more complex and costly for crypto-related business to operate. Personally I believe it's because they see crypto as a direct challenge to the financial institutions in the state. Anyway, a few years ago I was fucking around on this site and ended up losing about $2500 in bitcoin to someone in a scam. Fortunately, I was able to get the person's IP address, real name, address, and eventually their facebook. They lived about an hour away in New Jersey. One of the first things I then did was call the NYPD and report the person, obviously. NY has the most bitcoin regulation in the country.

A detective and a uniform showed up at a my apartment and I had to handhold them through basic shit like skype conversations and forum DMs. I guess the scary block explorer where dollar amounts are clearly delineated is hard for some poeple. I just needed them to go arrest someone and get my money back. Even if they didn't really trust me and my judgement there was a suspect with zero work on their part. I handed them all the evidence I had including transactions and conversations. This guy would shitpost on facebook about getting that money with lots of pics in Atlantic City.

Anyways the cops heard bitcoin called their boss and got permission to bounce.

I didn't even get a pretend investigation like when your moms looks under the bed for the boogeyman.

Usually regulation is supposed to mean protection or at least that's what is said. I guess they protected the Winklevoss kids from competition.
Ultimately the point I'm trying to make is Bitlicense=Bullshit.

5  Other / Politics & Society / why do we need politicians? on: December 19, 2017, 03:46:18 PM
so i've been thinking about this a lot recently, and i would like to know if anyone can come up with a reason why politicians are still necessary for good government. i've come to realize that their whole relevance comes from a time itself irrelevant to the modern world. in developed countries, the vast majority of people plugged into cell phones and internet, why do we have to be under a system thats from a time when most people were not even literate? most modern governments of wealthy developed countries were formed prior to the development of modern technology, and it had become the norm in the establishment of these countries to develop a system of political representation for citizens in the form of politicians as democratic systems emerged.

and so, functionally, politicians are meant to represent us in government, correct?

internet and cell phones let basically all people communicate instantaneously all the time, and the average amount of education a person receives today is probably not so different than the average politician received a century ago.. and even right here right now i am representing my own ideas thanks to this technology and education..
like the factory worker whose function, supplanted by technology, is quickly being made obselete by robots, so are politicians can we not use things like ssl and https to build something to replace make politicians obsolete? i dont think many will argue that they perform well in their function, and could not use an upgrade. we can replace government buildings in capitals with a secure domain for everyone to have a hand in governing, or at least the opportunity if they care enough to want it. the USA is considered a democratic republic because we have a system where a few vote for the rest, and yet its government loves to place the democratic ideal above all else. what would more democratic than having more people voting more?

we all already have a digital representaton of ourselves that exists simply in our bitcointalk forum user accounts. why not extend the arena to government as well?

what is the need for politicians?
in the USA, career politicians spend their entire lives advancing through ranks in government (and probably have better job security than you do). their only job is to keep their corporate sponsors happy so they that can continue to look good when they need to be re-elected. they might as well dress like nascar drivers with the jumpsuits with all the logos and brands on them... and its not like people are not already aware of this even. the existing political ecosystem in which political correctness is the rubric by which politicians are elected and fired, but it has very little to do with their actual function as our government.
government for and by the self-same people would take care of this need, i think.

this idea just continues to seem increasing obvious to me, but it just seems we are constantly evolving to something increasing further from this and it all just seems so counterproductive. can progress happen, or are we just entrenched into the current state of bullshit?
politicians have been ruining too many things i care about lately.. its all hidden agendas and doublespeak. its becoming increasingly necessary to be oddly reminded that its not actually their job to progressively make things worse
i cant remember the last time my government (in the USA we all hail an orange mammal whose specialty is split between being an agressive twit on twatter and an emotionally-stunted 12 year old) acted with integrity, possibly because it was before i was born.

14  Economy / Goods / WTS nexus 6 (unlocked)-sold on: October 05, 2015, 06:09:02 AM
i have a nexus 6 that has been less than lightly used.. because im dumb, i had 2 of these phones and would swap which one i used as my primary whenever i would inevitably smash one of them to bits- i hate phone cases, mainly because they are stupid
anyways, the one i am selling i've owned for about ~3 weeks since it came from motorola's warehouse through RMA replacement.. it has been sitting on my desk ever since and touched less than unloved spouse. the thing looks new and runs like new.. if this were ebay i'd say its "like new", but ebay sells phone cases and therefore is logically stupid too
shipping is from NYC.. asking price is $300 $290 + shipping (NA/EU) in btc

comes with a free brand-new in box case and screen shattering protector (neither applied) so that you may experience the awesome satisfaction of throwing it in the trash.. or you can put them on your dope new phone so that it looks stupid
15  Economy / Computer hardware / anyone want an 8GB DDR3 laptop ram stick? on: September 12, 2015, 05:30:35 AM
a friend gave me this cause it wasnt compatible with his laptop.. after realizing i have no open slots in anything i own i have decided, in my infinite generosity, to give this piece away to someone that can put it to work.. idle ram is bad ram as i always say, so adopt this ram today and use it to break rocks or store data-the choice is yours!

i ask that you cover shipping costs.. registered mail is like a $1 worldwide and that would hold a stick of ram..
i will not, however, turn down any donations to the "buy tarzan2 a yacht fund"- that choice is yours as well!

please only take the stick if you intend to use it, not if you intend to resell it.. if you seem sketchy to me, i reserve the right to deny you.. but this is basically first come, first ram
