Last year's Super Bowlero was pretty fun... let's do it again, shall we?? Cool

RECENTLY UPDATED: 1-30-19

Here's how to play:

There are 100 "squares" and people can buy up as many squares as they want.  What each square should be worth is still to be determined and I will be up for any recommendations.  The X-axis, in green, will be designated to the Rams and the Y-axis, in blue, will be designated to the Patriots.  When you declare you want to purchase some squares, make sure you declare what square(s) you want in coordinate form (X, Y).

When you pay the total amount for the squares you want, post your tx id on the thread and I will update you as paid.  I will be talking to Jwinterm to set up a wallet for everyone (if everyone is cool with jwinterm holding as escrow, I certainly do.)  Then you can make your picks on the board if you'd like based on the X and Y coordinates if you'd like, or just tell me to randomly assign them.  I will then erase the numbers on the X and Y axis's and do a random number generator to mix up the numbers.  Please let me know if this seems fair, if not I am always up for better ideas on how to handle this.

Official Countdown Timer

I will update the OP more when I figure out how to draw the numbers for square randomly that isn't a total pain in the ass, like last time, where I organized 100 of the slots based on block hashes... If anyone has any simpler ideas, please feel free to share.

THINGS WE NEED TO DISCUSS
1) 0.1 xmr/square ok with everyone?
2) Jwinterm as escrow ok with everyone?
3) Easier way to randomly pick squares for participants?

46  Economy / Collectibles / [AUCTION - Fin.] DEF CON 26 Monero/BCOS village badges on: September 18, 2018, 04:10:57 PM
Hey guys  Smiley

Up for auction is a set of badges from the 26th Annual DEF CON from the Monero/BCOS (Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Open Security) village hosted in Las Vegas this year. Unfortunately I was unable to make it and was lucky to see that they were selling some at the last week or so before the event online, so I got a few of these sets.

You can learn more about the Monero/BCOS village & this year’s DEF CON event following these links:

https://bcfocus.com/news/monero-project-and-bcos-village-go-live-at-def-con-26-las-vegas/17550/

https://www.defcon.org/html/defcon-26/dc-26-villages.html

100% of the proceeds will be split between both funding requests for these guys with the 12 pound heads that make Monero’s math homework check out. I’m still currently without cable/WiFi and in the middle of a move so I can’t fire up my node to make a donation... If these requests fill up before the end of the auction, then all funds will be forwarded to the dev fund wallet. You can find their funding requests here:

https://forum.getmonero.org/8/funding-required/90730/continued-funding-for-surae-for-another-quarter-september-october-november-2018

https://forum.getmonero.org/8/funding-required/90809/sarang-funding-for-october-december-2018

Edit: a little more info on these badges and Kastelo’s open source hardware wallets found here

Quote
The test version of the monero hardware wallet is a radio-connected device that stores arbitrary data, such as a secret spend key or public address. The prototype is an NFC badge which can transmit the data stored to a smartphone. There are a few protection features to stop the badge being used as soon as it comes into contact with NFC-enabled devices; most importantly, you have to push a button for the device to transmit data.

The badge is composed of two halves, two separate devices on a PCB. First, there is a radio circuit which does not need a battery. Secondly, there is a battery, and 16 LED lights in a matrix to give the device some aesthetics and flash the color orange.

AUCTION RULES

Payment: I will get back to you on this... I think the easiest way is for the winner to pay funds into the funding addresses, but obviously not everyone has XMR. I should have Internet by then, so I will update my XMR and BTC addresses to send to here in the OP before the auctions ends.

50  Economy / Gambling discussion / 2018 NFL Fantasy Football Discussions & Strategies Thread on: August 04, 2018, 03:24:18 PM
Hello everyone.

Scrolled through the discussions board and didn't see any discussion threads about anybodies Fantasy Football League's draft strategies, only just found the NFL thread that talks about betting on teams.  I thought I would create a safe space to think out loud your predictions about specific players who you think will go far in the season and then laugh in hindsight when your #1 pick in the draft gets injured for the season Cool

Will DeShaun Watson be a dud after dominating his debut year?  Is Todd Gurley going to be the "prettiest gurl at the ball" this season?  Let's find out together shall we?
51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Monero Fantasy Football League 2018 on: July 19, 2018, 10:31:42 PM
Cool Hodl on to your butts, it's time for the 2nd Annual  Cool

Monero Fantasy Football League!

The 1st Annual Monero Fantasy Football league was a great time, and again congrats to Jwinterm on the win.  With that being said, it's now time to gear up for another fun season of occasional, soul crushing regret and dank meme's.

PSA: to clarify... this is for American Football or better known as the 'NFL', also known as the 'No Flop League'.

CURRENT STANDINGS: Week 7
1. ChiBitCTy    5-2-0    838.00    776.92    W-3    9    34
2. DonkeyPunch    5-2-0    768.94    741.98    L-1    4    12
3. Tecmo Bowlers    4-3-0    836.62    795.42    L-1    5    19
4. wownerobux    4-3-0    820.98    865.10    L-2    1    3
5. XxXSwagggXxX    3-4-0    803.42    782.74    W-1    6    14
6. TY 4 your donation    3-4-0    802.88    724.44    W-3    10    8
7. Hhampuz    3-4-0    801.74    799.08    W-2    8    11
8. Go floam go    3-4-0    797.32    889.14    L-3    3    6
9. Hueristic's Team    3-4-0    777.00    789.76    W-1    7    18
10. Lady Phish    2-5-0    809.34    891.66    L-3    2    1

As of right now we have a couple things to decide on:

1.Buy in:  I'm suggesting a buy in of around $50-100 in XMR, but I am going to leave it to the majority vote.  Let's discuss how much people are willing to throw in and I'll take a vote on this when it gets closer to game time.  Also, if people don't have any XMR they want to spend and want to use BTC instead, I guess I'm OK with it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.  But since this is the "Monero Fantasy Football League" I would assume people who play would want to get a pay out in XMR; so just PM me and I can send XMR in the pot for you, plus post the tx hash here in the thread as long as you send me the buy-in equivalent in BTC.

Edit
  • Currently discussing whether we should have fixed 0.5, 0.75 or 1.0 XMR buy ins

- Have decided on 1.0 XMR buy ins

2.Escrow:  Since we have had Jwinterm hold the "pool wallet" for... well literally every single event I've ever held, I say we use him as escrow. But if someone else wants to recommend someone to hold funds (that is trustworthy) for the league we can do that too since Jwinterm will be participating.  Multi-sig is also a possibility?

3.Draft Time:  This is flexible.  I still don't know my schedule for work and I'm sure everyone has to figure out what times they are available as well.  I went ahead and set the draft time for Sunday, August 26th @ 5 PM EST.  Let me know what day/time will work for people and we'll figure out a time everyone can dedicate at least 2 hours or so to drafting players.

Other general info about the league:

1.Trophy:  Fellow Monerian eyejay_3 (on IRC) has graciously donated 1 bottle of a Monero edition Barolo that will be gifted to the winner and is still in the works of being made.  Import taxes are still TBD and will have to be paid by the winner if the winner chooses to receive the prize.

2.Scoring:  Yes yes yes... I've heard your concerns *cough*Hueristic*cough*cough* ... *agheem* and I will be using Yahoo this year.  As of right now, here is a general FYI of what the rules look like for scoring:

52  Economy / Collectibles / [AUCTION] Set of 100 artistic "nudie pics" from BYOB/"Slave On" auction on: June 18, 2018, 02:43:50 PM
Can I get the photos without bidding on the coins ? Grin

I agree with yogg, I have plenty coins, I need more photos of nude gingers frolicking in off the beaten path locations...You may have found a new niche market here OP...]

Edit to add (is this your work?  If so, great job, absolutely stunning)  https://vimeo.com/56445117

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4368019.0

You guys asked for it...

Up for auction is the set of 100 artistic "nudie" pics

I got these from JanEmil's auction I have in the link above and totally forgot that they were included in the package.  Not all of these pictures are "nudie" pics, but rather more "artistic"/"WTF is going on in this picture" kinda of photos. Granted, there are some pretty attractive ladies scattered throughout the WTF'ness...  I actually had a pretty close encounter casually opening my package with what I thought was just the silver pieces, and these photos dumped out all over the place and had to shove them back in the package before my fiance could see it and decide she is having second thoughts about marrying me.   Cheesy

Any ways, I have no use for these photos and figured someone would get more out of them than I would.  I have attached 8 additional sneak peak photos that are NSFW, but have black barred.  Just believe me, I would suggest not opening this link around friends and family, lol.

Hey guys, disclaimer time... this is my first time trying to sell anything through the forum.  I've bought stuff here and there, but am a newbie dealing with shipping; so just wanted everyone to know I will be shipping from the US and that if you are an out of country bidder, please bare with me while I figure out how to go about shipping stuff internationally.  If the winner would want to go through escrow, I am perfectly fine going through MJ or any other well known escrow of choice.

I got these a while ago and the coins have been in it's rolls untouched for quite some time.  Since they've been in their rolls, I've never had to go get individual air tight coin containers, so I will be looking to get some soon so they can be protected during shipping.  Any help on where to get these will be appreciated Smiley

Anywho.. without further adieu

56  Economy / Games and rounds / 2nd Annual Monero Madness of 2018 on: February 24, 2018, 07:40:14 PM
So it's official... we've finally come around full circle.  This is the start of the second year of feeding our unhealthy gambling habits by gambling on sports games with magic crypto money that has gotten us stupid 1,000%+ gains.  What a world we live in..

Big thanks to everyone who has played so far and congratulations to the following winners from last year's games:

2017 Winners:

With that being said, a lot of exciting news coming out about the new 'upgrade' that will happen to Monero's codebase which will make it cheaper and more efficient, especially more efficient with this group considering multisig will be out.  Jwinterm has always been the escrow holder for these competitions that I hold, and even though I personally trust the guy, it might make more people feel more comfortable to participate where there hard earned monroes are held in escrow by multiple 'trustworthy' people (whoever that may be).

Also, I will put this on the record that I will do everything in my power to win one of these god damned events if it's the last thing I do!  Smiley

Anywho... without futher adieu...

2nd Annual Monero Madness of 2018

Current jackpot is: Huh

______________________________________________

Issues to be discussed:

1) Escrow? If so, who?

Jwinterm? Someone else?

2) How much for the buy in?

Maybe .25? I don't really know what is ok for everyone who wants to play.

Here's how to play:

Send xmr to the following public address.

This address doesn't own output 1 with pubkey: Huh for amount: Huh

Once, you have sent XMR to the "Monero Madness" wallet, post your transaction hash here and I will update you to the list as well as send you a PM with your personal link to the pool website where you can make your picks.

PLEASE NOTE: The brackets are not out as of right now, this is primarily to get the word out as early as possible and get everyone interested/signed up and ready to make their picks.  Brackets don't come out until March 11th.

This is a WINNER TAKE ALL event.  Whoever wins the most "points" at the end of the tournament wins.  It works like this:

Round of 64 = 1 point per game
Round of 32 = 2 points per game
Sweet Sixteen = 4 points per game
Elite Eight = 8 points per game
Final Four = 16 points per game
Championship = 32 points

Thanks everyone and good luck!

Hey-ya guys, after having a pretty good turn out in this years first Monero fantasy football league and last years "Monero Madness"; I just wanted to post this up here and see how much interest I could get into trying to get a Super Bowl Pool going between some fellow friends in (or who would like to join) the Monero community.  There will be more information to come, but generally the idea is this:

Here's how to play:

There are 100 "squares" and people can buy up as many squares as they want.  What each square should be worth is still to be determined and I will be up for any recommendations.  The X-axis, in green, will be designated to the Eagles and the Y-axis, in blue, will be designated to the Patriots.  When you declare you want to purchase some squares, make sure you declare what square(s) you want in coordinate form (X, Y).

After all 100 squares are all bought up, we will calculate who gets what square based off block hashes after the deadline, February 4th @ 8 AM EST.

Official Countdown Timer

After we calculate squares for all the participants across the X and Y axis by using the hashes of blocks, you will be rooting for each team's last digit of their score to match up to your square.

For instance:

Say you bought 1 square and and your square lines up with a 4 and a 7.  If, by chance, it was your lucky day and the score ends up being

Eagles: 24
Patriots: 7

You would win.

How we conclude who gets what square

On the thread I had on /r/Monero trying to get people to play, someone came up with a really good idea in order to randomly generate square spots.  I'm still open to doing something else or doing things like I initially proposed if it seems better, but I suggest everyone to read this reply I got in terms of assigning people squares.

(roughly quoted here)
Quote
Each block has a hash value that is (ostensibly) different, correct?

Its a hex value, so you would just take the last 4 of the block hash value.

So you have a list from 1-100 that looks like

    Steve H - 1
    Steve H - 2
    Ryan R - 1
    Ryan R - 2
    Ryan R - 3
    Jenny O - 1

and so on until it fills up the 100 slots. Those are listed in the order in which they reserve a spot, or make a payment and submit proof of payment.

Then, You take the hash value of the block from a starting point (any starting point) and pick off the last four.

So lets say you started with Block Number 1494281

You have the following hashes:
Block    Hash    Last 4
1494281    fc34be5df26d2e16b48a36a08610d954ad1a6dc47d0a5f7f6eec26ea52375d6a    5d6a
1494282    8c828f32d546be4a2e6338c872e7da06bf570a849eb49c240a030b464b7b120a    120a
1494283    11741a4c52d6d47cb8ead385a98666973feb3c14e6ea9db61180eae9baebe75b    e75b
1494284    15fa9ef91d900bc63269be01b92bbd3cc35c357dcc9847ce85ba66bd176fa83c    a83c
1494285    50cc89198976f7c9a909926fbfb99959368fe7e66dc45e9d0bccbd5bc88163e2    63e2
1494286    fb669cadc01ddfad8e2dda62572930f42b997982d351c55ffc67da5e4b811f06    1f06

Those get assigned to the list of square owners.
Square Owner    Last 4
Steve H - 1    5d6a
Steve H - 2    120a
Ryan R - 1    e75b
Ryan R - 2    a83c
Ryan R - 3    63e2
Jenny O - 1    1f06

Sort those in ascending (or descending) and you would get this:
Square Owner    Last 4    Rank
Steve H - 1    5d6a    3
Steve H - 2    120a    1
Ryan R - 1    e75b    6
Ryan R - 2    a83c    5
Ryan R - 3    63e2    4
Jenny O - 1    1f06    2

Rank is equal to squares on your grid, so your layout would look like
Square Owner    Last 4    Rank (Square #)
Steve H - 2    120a    1
Jenny O - 1    1f06    2
Steve H - 1    5d6a    3
Ryan R - 3    63e2    4
Ryan R - 2    a83c    5
Ryan R - 1    e75b    6

58  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Monero Fantasy Football League 2017 on: June 17, 2017, 02:15:26 PM
Ladies and gentlemen.  Boys and girls.
It's time for the 1st ever... 1st annual...

Monero Fantasy Football League!

Due to the pretty good turnout of Monero Madness, I figured that hopefully we'll get the same good turn out and not dread the upcoming winter months with a good ol' fashion fantasy football league.

This thread is just to be able to see how many people would want to participate, but the tricky part is that for fantasy football to work, we need to get an even amount of players (6,8,10,etc.).  This is why I want to get word out there early so we can have some time to find more people as we get closer to football season.

As of right now we still got some things to decide on:

1.Buy in:  I'm suggesting a 1 xmr buy in, but if people want to do more or less, let me know in this thread so we can discuss.

2.Escrow:  Since we had Jwinterm hold the "pool wallet" for Monero Madness, and the fact that I personally just trust the guy not to pull any bamboozles or flim-flams; I say we use him as escrow. But if someone else wants to recommend someone to hold funds (that is trustworthy) for the league we can do that too since Jwinterm will be participating.

3.Trophy:  I'm willing to purchase a nice little trophy for the winner.  I'm thinking it would be pretty cool to have a trophy passed around over the years to the winners and have their names (pseudonyms) engraved on plaques.  I'm thinking 1st place gets the "Golden Barolo"?  I'm really interested to hear peoples thoughts on this, so please let me know below.

4.Scoring:  Since I'm not quite sure if anyone is super into fantasy football or not, I just wanted to make sure if people were ok with the scoring system that ESPN had on default.  I copied and pasted it here.  If anyone has any recommendations of changes, let me know.

5.Draft Time:  This is flexible.  I still don't know my schedule for work and I'm sure everyone has to figure out what times they are available as well.  I went ahead and set the draft time for Saturday, August 12th @ 5 PM EST or 2 PM PDT.  Let me know what day/time will work for people and we'll figure out a time everyone can dedicate at least 2 hours or so to drafting players.

More ideas to make this better will be well received.  Please post in this thread if you will like to participate and state how much you are willing to put in the pot (1 xmr?).  After you post on here, you can also include your email you want me to send an invite link too, or you could just PM it to me.  From there you can sign up, join the league, and I will put your name below:

1st annual Monero Fantasy Football League participants:

This is a WINNER TAKE ALL event.  But, when it comes down to the championship game, the two people who are playing can negotiate a deal if they want too.  Like for example, the two people in the championship don't want to risk losing everything since they've gotten so far.  So the two people talk to each other and negotiate a deal that the person who wins gets 75% of the pot and loser gets 25% of the pot.  That's how my fantasy league has always done it and think it's a pretty good system and interesting to see what the two people end up doing at the end.

Hey guys, this is a cross post over from Gambling Discussions section.  I figured it would be better over in this section since it is technically a "forum based game"... so Mods if you feel the need to delete the one over in Gambling Discussion section, then that is fine with me.

_______________________________________________________________________________

Alright guys... You know what time it is...

It's time for...

MONERO MADNESS!!!

Yes, you heard right.  Now is that special time of the year to pretend to your friends that you actually follow college basketball, or know what the f*** a "Gonzaga" is.

As we wait I want to go ahead and see who all is interested in participating in a "March Madness" pool.  For those of you that don't know (I'm sure there are some), it is a single elimination matchup between 64 teams for the national championship in college basketball (NCAA).  If you live in the US, I'm sure you will know what this is... and if you live in the US, I'm sure you are well aware that watching 2-5 games going on at once while at you're at your local bar can be exhausting and boring after a little while...

but not when you got THE MADNESS.

I'm open to ideas, but this is my opinion of how we should run things if we garner some interest. 1) Buy in is 1-2 xmr. I vote 2 xmr. 2) We use ESPN to have a pool set up and have our charts on there to keep track of each game.  3) We use escrow (?) ... I'm fine with going off the honor system, but I can totally understand if people are kind of sketched out being that most people don't know each other or probably don't know me.  If people are interested in getting a trustworthy person, then we can get them to hold the funds.

More ideas to make this better will be well received.  Please post in this thread if you will like to participate and state how much you are willing to put in the pot (1-2 xmr).  I will put your name below:

List of Monebros gone MAD:

1) phishead (floam412)   ---> 2 xmr  PAID
2) jwinterm     ---> 2 xmr
3) mambamanagement ---> 2 xmr

1) phishead (floam412)   ---> 2 xmr  PAID

2 ) jwinterm     ---> 2 xmr   PAID

3 ) mambamanagement ---> 2 xmr

4 ) Febo    ---> 2 xmr  PAID

8 ) cryptoholder1 (reddit)     ---> 2 xmr   PAID

9 ) favorite-and-forget (reddit)     ---> 2 xmr    PAID

...

Current jackpot is: 14 XMR (18 XMR pending)

Once, you have sent 2 XMR to the "Monero Madness" wallet, post your transaction hash here and I will update you to the list as well as send you a PM with your personal link to the pool website where you can make your picks.

This is a WINNER TAKE ALL event.  Whoever wins the most "points" at the end of the tournament wins.  It works like this:

Round of 64 = 1 point per game
Round of 32 = 2 points per game
Sweet Sixteen = 4 points per game
Elite Eight = 8 points per game
Final Four = 16 points per game
Championship = 32 points

Thanks everyone good luck!
