401  Other / Ivory Tower / UK Writer Beaten to a BLOODY PULP With Hours of Releasing Pro-Trump Piece on: July 14, 2018, 01:49:10 PM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxurXCUigio

This is why we need to stand up to the hooligans that are funded by the deep state in an attempt to halt the rise of populism.

I support Donald Trump and his strong ant-globalist stance, that seeks to rebuild America after the pillage by Clinton, Obama and the rest of them. I also support Brexit, and I hope it wll lead to a political party that will "drain the swamp" of the Etonian/Oxford/Harvard treasonous cabal that created the European Union and has stolen so much from the member states.
402  Other / Meta / Should posting advice be in Meta or beginners? on: July 13, 2018, 11:18:21 AM
I see my thread about capitalised titles has been moved to reputation, which is pretty useless. By starting that thread, I hoped that i could encourage new and not so new members help us to keep cleaner and more professional looking index pages. I don't know who reads the reputation board, but I bet most of the juvenile capitalists don't.

Where should these advice threads be posted? I believe that there is a need for them if Bitcoin Talk is to regain credibility in the crypto world.
403  Economy / Reputation / I'm ignoring posters who start threads with all caps titles. on: July 12, 2018, 03:58:28 PM
The initial posts are often formatted, and usually contain little of value.  By ignoring the initial poster, the thread is deprecated in the index, and it gives a much cleaner page. Do you think this action is too draconian, after all, it means I won't be opening the thread, so nobody posting in it has a chance of receiving any merits from me. Capitalised titles makes the forum appear to contain a bunch of newbie amateurs.
404  Other / Meta / I've just invented dMerits. on: July 07, 2018, 04:34:23 PM
No, these aren't negative merits, but they are sMerits that can be delegated.

I gave seoinc. 10 merits so that he can award some in the Spanish community, and I messed up by giving a couple of merits to a copy paster. It would have been great if I could have delegated the 10 sMerits to seoinc. for him to pass on all 10, and of course no merits would have been added to his personal total.

How about giving some merit sources the ability to delegate the awarding of a limited number of sMerits. It would make the task of merit sources much simpler, and it would act as a form of apprenticeship for future merit sources.
405  Other / Ivory Tower / Donald Trump has been ordered not to meet Nigel Farage. on: July 07, 2018, 02:33:20 PM
I wonder how much more self-delusional the British government can be. A leaked report - one of those that is probably exaggerated, but may have an element of truth in it - states that Donald Trump must be kept away from Nigel Farage when he visits the UK. How stupid can you get, they should get out those poncey cucumber sandwiches with the corners cut off, and the Buck's Fizz, and sit them down together for a friendly afternoon social. Still DT is his own man, so it will be interesting to see if they do meet.
406  Other / Meta / I nearly gave this thread a merit - what do you think? on: July 06, 2018, 03:54:34 PM
When I looked at the article in the reference, it looks as if he has just copied chunks from it, and not marked them as quotes. He hasn't added any discussion points or observations either.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4580374.0

This type of thread is becoming a bit annoying. It's getting to the point that you have to do some research before awarding meits. I wonder if it is worth having a 24 hour cooling off period for merit awards. This would allow merit sources to award merits a lot faster, and they could reverse a bad decision based on subsequent comments in the thread.
407  Other / Beginners & Help / To new Bitcoiners - how much does its price affect you? on: July 05, 2018, 05:18:53 PM
Bitcoin is becoming expensive, and is going through a period of major volatility. How much does this affect you in your decisions about Bitcoin?

Would you buy Bitcoin as a long(ish) term investment, or do you see it as a simple payment method? If you plan to start a career in crypto, does the price affect your ability to learn and experiment with the coin?

The Bitcoin economy is very different now, and it was much simpler when I became interested a few years ago,
408  Other / Beginners & Help / My source merit allowance has been increased, so I need your help. on: July 05, 2018, 05:02:53 PM
No I don't want you to send me PMs, because I'll probably just delete them, and I don't want you to post links to the threads or posts that are under-merited in your opinion. What I would like you to do is to make some good well reasoned posts, or start useful information threads to help me to use my extra allocation. I won't award anything for TwitBook posts, or posts about bounty or ICOs. Posts about Bitcoin, the crypto-economy, node operation, and other things that are useful for new members of the Bitcoin community would be ideal. "when moon", "what Lambo" and stuff like that is juvenile and not useful.

If you don't think your English is up to it, then get your post cleaned up at Fit to Talk, and then post the cleaned version. You'll still get the credit and the merits for it.
409  Other / Ivory Tower / Bitmain controls close to 51% of mining hash on: July 05, 2018, 03:35:32 PM
Their continuing profits allows them to build an increasing investment in Bitcoin and other crypto- mining operations. There seems to be a few new concepts being created for potential miners. The most interesting are the inclusion of mining hardware in room heaters and air conditioners, and the possibility of using the surplus electricity generated by hydro-carbon powered transport. Whilst the individual hash power will be fairly small, the aggregation of millions of such miners could make a substantial contribution to the decentralisation of mining. Of course this assumes that Bitmain doesn't operate a mining pool for this new source of hash power.

What is your view of the future de-centralisation of Bitcoin mining.
410  Other / Beginners & Help / This thread in the Fit to Talk English project earned 20 merits on: July 05, 2018, 02:55:28 PM
This thread about the Brazilian truckers strike is well written, and earned 20 merits for bitmover. It is probably under merited, and I think it illustrates the type of quality threads that we could have on Bitcoin Talk. It also earned merits for some other posters including 9 for vit05 for a reply.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4424796.0

Instead of whingeing about the paucity of merits, and what a hard life you have in this forum, put some work into creating some decent content to improve the forum as well as your reputation.
411  Other / Meta / Please get the TwitBook threads off the newbie board. on: July 03, 2018, 05:11:54 PM
They make Bitcoin Talk look pathetic, and they must be killing it's reputation. Now is the time when we should be building the forum reputtion in preparation for the new digital currencies that the governments will be introducing. Bitcoin Talk's policy of giving priority to the TwitBook scammers and spammers isn't going to give it any credibility. How difficult is it for mods to just move them into the BT underworld?
412  Other / Beginners & Help / A play coin to learn about nodes, mining and other Bitcoin stuff. on: July 02, 2018, 10:49:01 AM
The entry cost for anything to do with Bitcoin has become extremely high. It's not just the price of the coins, but the cost of downloading the blockchain, and the purchase of mining rigs that may never become profitable. I would like to create an alternative that involves minimal costs ( ie. none for most members ).

I propose that we create a 'play' coin that uses the core software, but a different port and transaction identity. We can start a new blockchain, so there is no download overhead associated with it, apart from the software of course. We could use old mining software, so mining experiments would not require the purchase of an ASIC processor. The coins would have no value, so we could experiment with exchange and trading between members. No investment would be required, so it could be useful for new members of the crypto community. To prevent abuse, participation should be restricted to active members of the Bitcoin Talk forum.

I am happy to provide the domain name and hosting required for this project. What do you think of the idea?
413  Other / Beginners & Help / The Merkle and the Nonce on: July 02, 2018, 08:20:03 AM
It sounds like the title of a film about the EU dark angel and a sex offender (British prison slang for nonce ), but these are specific terms used in the construction of the blockchain. I'll award merits to posters providing a simple description of either or both words.

Describe a Merkle tree or Merkle root, or the Nonce in a Bitcoin blockchain

As always, no plagiarism or cut and paste answers. Also you are free to correct any posted misconceptions.
414  Other / Beginners & Help / Bitcoin transport - please explain your understand of the transport mechanism on: July 01, 2018, 12:29:26 PM
Here is another chance to earn some merits for telling us your understanding of bitcoin topics. To give newer members a chance, the first 10 replies are restricted to newbies and juniors, after that the thread is open to all ranks. The topic can be quite complex, so I'll award merits for good basic description, more detailed explanations of selected transport elements, and more for a good technical overview. Elements include the mempool and UTXOs for example. No plagiarism or copy posting is allowed of course.

Please explain your understanding of the process that takes a bitcoin transaction from an entry in a spender's wallet, to an entry in a receiver's wallet
415  Other / Beginners & Help / Second discussion about Bitcoin with merit awards - the shutdown of mining rigs. on: June 29, 2018, 04:09:41 PM
The price of Bitcoin has dropped recently, and this is coupled with a reduction in transaction volumes. It has reached the point where a few miners have turned off their rigs as mining is no longer profitable for them, or switched them to other coins. This leads us to the second discussion topic.

If the price continues to drop, what effect will that have on Bitcoin mining and transactions?

Please note - this is not a discussion on the probability or otherwise of a change in the price of Bitcoin. As always - initial posts by newbies and juniors.
416  Other / Ivory Tower / Douchebank up, Bitcoin and gold down - the world has gone mad. on: June 29, 2018, 02:33:33 PM
The bankrupt Douchebank and other bank shares are up, Bitcoin and Gold are down. The world has gone mad, and the only reason I can see for the bank rises is another round of theft to boost them ( sorry I should say bail-in ).
417  Other / Beginners & Help / Discussion about Bitcoin with merit awards - block mining on: June 29, 2018, 12:14:28 PM
Thanks to all you guys who are participating in the question thread. I thought it might be interesting to start a subjective discussion thread as well. The rules are the same - no spam, newbies and juniors, all post for the benefit of improving the knowledge of forum members etc.
So here is the first topic for discussion.

Miners don't mine Bitcoins, miners mine blocks for the blockchain
418  Other / Beginners & Help / Question about Bitcoin with merit awards - block linkage in the blockchain on: June 29, 2018, 09:15:56 AM
Here we go with another merit giveaway thread. Once again the awards are to be given to new and junior members only. The thread will be self-moderated, and when one topic is answered, I'll add another topic. Spamming and very low value answers will be deleted. All replies must be original, and not copied from other sources. If you don't know the answer, then Google the question and read about it. When you think you understand the topic, then post the answer in your own words. So here is the first question.

The Bitcoin blockchain is constructed from a sequence of linked blocks. Please explain how the blocks are linked

Thread restarted because i forgot to make it self-moderated. The merit awards will be in the range of 1 - 5 based on the comprehensiveness ofyour answers.
419  Other / Meta / Is this question too technical for the beginners board? on: June 29, 2018, 08:50:39 AM
I've started another merit awarding thread in beginners. In it, I ask for an explanation of the block linkage in the blockchain.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4564849.

I'm hoping to shift the focus in beginners back to Bitcoin and crypto. Do you think that the question is too technical for the beginners board?
420  Other / Beginners & Help / The Bitcoin test thread with loads of merit to be awarded. on: June 29, 2018, 08:46:48 AM
Thread restarted to allow for self-moderation.

Mods - please delete this thread.
