481  Other / Off-topic / McDonalds has just cleaned my notebook computer. on: April 29, 2018, 10:08:03 AM
I must be spending too much time here. The girl who is on lobby support today has just cleaned my notebook, and she has made a good job of it as well. She claimed it was a health risk. Smiley

She used the stuff they use to clean the tablets. It's just as wel lit wsn't the car park guy, as he uses a jet wash.
482  Other / Off-topic / TMAN - do you want to set up a domain with me on: April 28, 2018, 07:58:10 PM
I've just read this thread on the beginners board. - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3267513.0
I own BiggestCunts.com - how about starting to list some of the guys who just refuse to read anything, and then continue to repeat incorrect information. I'm so tired of this behaviour by new members spamming rubbish.
483  Economy / Service Discussion / I'm receiving merit abuse reports in my talk merit ticketing system. on: April 28, 2018, 03:28:59 PM
I'd like to be able to pass these onto a mod, or to someone who is able to research them. I've got a lot of boards on ignore, so I can't do it.
Is there a mod who would be prepared to accept these tickets?

The ticketing system is really for people wanting to appeal my decision to place them on ignore.
484  Economy / Service Discussion / Please comment on this thread about posting in the Bitcoin Talk forum on: April 28, 2018, 02:42:09 PM
I started a thread on Fit to Talk to try to guide new members of Bitcoin Talk into good habits, but I'm not getting any feedback on it. It needs a few more posts to complete the series. Please can you let me know what you think of it, and I'll complete it if you think it is worth it. The thread title is
How to create good posts, and build your reputation at Bitcoin Talk
and the link is - https://fittotalk.com/english-talk/index.php?topic=27.0

If you think it is worthwhile, then I can copy it into a thread in the beginners forum.
485  Other / Meta / Merge user's threads to avoid block bumping on: April 28, 2018, 11:53:06 AM
User P9tosya has just bumped 4 adjacent threads on the Beginners board.
Could we merge all his recent threads into one, and save him some work. Smiley It would also clean up the index.
486  Other / Meta / I'm not a mod, I'm just a big mouth with an ignore list. on: April 25, 2018, 11:13:05 AM
Several members have sent me PMs to report various frauds and abuses of merit.  I'm not a mod, DT or staff member, just an ordinary Hero who talks about his ignore list. I have started a private chat room to talk to a few senior members, but it isn't really suitable for discussing individual cases. If you have discovered a suspected  abuse of the forum, then there are a number of effective actions you can take.

- Report a post to a moderator.
- Post a link and comments including proof in one of the scammer reporting threads here in Meta.
- Sending a PM to a DT may not be the best action, they are pretty busy, and may miss your message.
- Put the suspects on your ignore list so that you don't give them any sMerit.

487  Other / Politics & Society / Will Brexit end the House of Lords on: April 25, 2018, 09:26:08 AM
The original concept of the House of Lords as a second chamber for decision making in the UK was good, but recent years have seen it moved into the control of the globalist deep state. With the current populist rejection of the eugenics and slavery being promoted by the globalists, it looks as if the unelected House of Lords will be replaced in the not too distant future.

Brexit, Bitcoin and Donald Trump seem to be having a massive influence in the move to free us from the debt slavery promoted by the banks.
488  Other / Meta / Where can I find new members to award with merits on: April 23, 2018, 06:57:16 PM
It's no good looking on the beginner's or discussion boards. They are all about bounty and air drops and social networking stuff. I'd like to award members that are interested in Bitcoin and reputable crypto currencies, but I've almost given up trying to find them.
489  Other / Meta / Can we have a list of members who give merit to bounty programmes on: April 23, 2018, 09:24:58 AM
I'd like to put them on ignore, so that I don't contribute to the upranking of bounty hunters, and the encouragement of bounty programmes here.
490  Other / Meta / It's no wonder we are infested with bounty and airdrop spammers on: April 22, 2018, 06:29:07 PM
Here is just one of the YouTube spamming tutorials.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQH7B5lWFSE

The suggested post is the usual rubbish that we need to eradicate, and the YouTube viewer replying doesn't even appear to be competent enough to work through the signup process.

I believe that we need a startup board, so that the mods can evaluate new members. Without that it will not be possible to control the flood of several thousand hopeful spammers every day.
491  Other / Meta / Please can we discourage Twitter references on the beginners board. on: April 21, 2018, 08:43:53 AM
I was saddened to see this post in one of the threads on the beginners' board.
Any recommendations on good people to follow on twitter?

I thought that the objective of Bitcoin Talk was to help people who are new to Bitcoin, and not to recommend other sites for learning and discussion. Has Bitcoin Talk immersed itself so far into the cesspit of bounty hunting, that people have to make posts like the above? I'm shocked by the number of advice posts on YouTube and Steemit that promote Bitcoin Talk as the venue to earn money by promoting scam coins and ponzi schemes.
492  Other / Serious discussion / Should I look at SElinux to run a full node computer? on: April 21, 2018, 07:57:07 AM
Quote from: Centos.org
Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) is a mandatory access control (MAC) security mechanism implemented in the kernel. SELinux was first introduced in CentOS 4 and significantly enhanced in later CentOS releases. These enhancements mean that content varies as to how to approach SELinux over time to solve problems.
https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/SELinux
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/5/html/deployment_guide/ch-selinux

It appears to be a security enhancement for various Linux distros, and there is a freeware version. I haven't read the papers in depth yet, and I wondered if any members here had considered using it, and what benefits they would expect to get from it.
493  Other / Meta / Is a question relating to running a node on a notebook off topic on: April 19, 2018, 10:07:32 AM
I posted this question on the tech board.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3350308.0
The board description states that posts should be related to running nodes and othe Bitcoin issues. My question was about battery reliability on a notebook computer running a full node. and the thead was moved to off topic. I understand the problems that mods have in keeping the boards clean, but I don't understand why this thread has to go on a board with discussions about how to become a father, and what is your favourite movie. I think the thread is useless on that board, and I have closed it. I'll raise the question in a webmaster forum, and continue the discussion there.

Is off topic really the only place where we can discuss harware problems related to our node computers?
494  Other / Off-topic / Question about notebook power supplies on: April 19, 2018, 08:56:27 AM
At heart I'm a mini-tower man, but as I'm spending most of my time travelling around, I've switched to using notebooks. I have two HP computers - an Ubuntu netbook with no fan and a small SSD, and a Windows Notebook with fan and 2Tb HDD. I run full nodes on each of them, and the netbook stores my wallet and blockchain data on an external SSD. The power converter has failed on the Notebook, and this is probably my fault for stressing the cable by folding it to fit into a pencil case. It is rated at 45 watts if I remember correctly. I can buy a compatible product tht is rated at 90 watts max. I'm assuming that the higher rating will allow it to run with less stress, and should prolong its life.

Now for the real question. I've noticed that the windows machine is taking far longer to recharge - up to 3 times as long. It seems to disconnect the battery for much of the time, Is this an indication of a failing battery? Recently I've been running the notebook on battery until it is almost flat, and then recharging completely within 24 hours. Should I reduce the number of times that I discharge the battery? There is a battery control in the HP power control panel. It has 3 settings - better battery life, more power, and a halfway compromise. I've been using the mid setting, but have recently changed to the battery saver setting. Varying the setting seems to make no difference to the computer operation, and I can't find any information about the operation of this setting.

I'm planning to dump Windows and switch to Linux, and to replace the HDD with as SSD, but as a result of some other issues I have to resolve, I've put off spending the time on this. Should I give this upgrade an increased priority to preserve the life of my notebook?
495  Other / Meta / Twitter campaigns posted on the beginners board on: April 18, 2018, 06:31:21 PM
This thread is on the beginners board
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3346378.0

If this is going to be a Bitcoin forum, then these should be deleted or moved to the alt spammer/scammer boards
496  Other / Meta / I've added audio to the English tuition project. on: April 16, 2018, 03:25:37 PM
What do you guys think? Is this a useful feature for new members hoping to improve their English?

497  Other / Meta / Could the thread start date be listed under the thread starter on the index on: April 16, 2018, 02:40:56 PM
I'm getting fed up with reading threads only to find it is a useless necro-bump. Would it be easy to add the date of the first post under the name of the thread starter in the index? This would save a lot of time when I am looking for decent threads to reward.
498  Other / Meta / Please can we change the beginners board to Bitcoin beginners board. on: April 15, 2018, 11:35:08 AM
I've just been looking through the Index there, and all is see is bounty, merit, bounty, air drop, merit and bounty.

I'd like to award some merit to Bitcoin newbies, but I don't know where to find them.
499  Other / Meta / Are there any banners for Bitcoin Talk? on: April 13, 2018, 01:06:21 PM
As some of you know, I started a training area for Bitcoin Talk members who don't have English as their first language. It's an open site, so I may get viewers who aren't members of this forum. I created a banner to encourage them to join here, but I'm not the best of designers. This is the banner that I knocked up in a few minutes.

Are there any official banners that I could use?
500  Other / Beginners & Help / How many of you want somewhere to practice your English? on: April 09, 2018, 04:43:36 PM
It seems that most new members are complaining about the merit system, and their inability to rank up because of it. In many cases, it seems to be the result of problems with the use of English.  How many of you would be interested in a place to practice so that you could improve your posting ability here?
