3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / BITCOIN FOUNDATION CON ARTISTS on: May 24, 2014, 07:01:10 PM
https://bitcoinfoundation.org/forum/index.php?/topic/960-evolution-of-the-bitcoin-foundation-to-software-protocol/

They linked the reddit post by Olivier Janssens ( very well known foundation member, and vocal critic of it ) in a thread called "Evolution of the Bitcoin Foundation to Software Protocol" and are talking about it as if they have no idea who Olivier Janssens is, and as if it was suggestion for the foundation when actually Olivier wants to replace the foundation. LOL
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How to get BTC Foundation out of Bitcoin development? on: May 15, 2014, 09:41:18 PM
The Bitcoin foundation currently fully controls it.

I believe that it is an urgent matter to get them out,  people should discuss it seriously and put something in practice as soon as possible.

Not only the bitcoin foundation has proven since the early days to be an institution with no morals on its highest level of membership, i.e.:

    Charlie Shrem

    Mark Karpeles

    Brock Pierce

And now we have this fully connected to the BTC Foundation:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=610521.0

That's insane to leave the development in the hands of people of dubious morals(the Foundation) and connected with an obscure private club(The Buffalo thing).

Edit: The foundation is also fully aligned with governement interests. They are sitted in a huge amount of bitcoins, a big part stolen by the way, the original concept of bitcoin does not really matter to them, they just want to cash out billions and then leave.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why Eve Online's economist thinks bitcoin could be a scam on: May 05, 2014, 07:19:53 PM
Dr. Eyjolfur Gudmundsson is the in-house economist at CCP Games, and part of his job is keeping Eve Online and its multiple currencies running smoothly. Eve Online and Dust 514 incorporate a series of virtual currencies, such as ISK, Auram and Plex, that are all interconnected and in some cases can be purchased, or sold for, actual currency

The value of PLEX, which is redeemed for one month of game time in Eve Online, is relatively stable. CCP has experimented with allowing players to purchase video cards with PLEX.

At Fanfest this year players could even purchase things around the convention center by converting their PLEX into "ISK Coins," plastic chips with CCP's logo on them that worked like real currency at certain vendors around the show.

In many ways PLEX has become a working currency, and CCP has tried some experiments using that currency outside of the game. The line between the game's economy and the "real" economy can sometimes grow blurry, and that's by design.

I sat down with Dr. Gudmundsson to discuss the currency and to talk a bit about bitcoin, the much-hyped "crypto currency" that has seen such volatility in the last few years. PLEX has stayed relatively stable and, although it can’t be used as payment in many places, it’s relatively easy to move "real" currency into, and in some cases out of, PLEX.

Once the trust is there, they break the trust and profit from it

"I find it very interesting that people that are behind the cryptocurrencies, they seem to distrust governments. So they create a system that is supposed to be closed, just a fixed amount of money, and nobody can create fiat monies, no bankers will benefit from it. And yet, they don’t tell you who is behind it, and they’re telling you the code is secure," he told Polygon.

"I look at them say, ‘Don’t trust the governments,’ but they expect us to trust something because it’s code somebody wrote I don’t know who is. And there’s a notion of people who did this originally, who are sitting on millions and millions of bitcoins and will cash out at some point," Dr. Gudmundsson continued.

This is why bitcoin is so interesting when viewed through the lens of Eve Online: this is the cycle of all the classic in-game scams. A system is set up, value is promised, trust is gained and you may not know exactly who is behind any of it… and then the endgame comes when the masterminds cash out and everyone else loses everything.

"And all of these stories could all come from Eve," Dr. Gudmundsson said. "People trying to figure out a scamming system that they will actually build some value, make people trust it, and once the trust is there, they break the trust and profit from it."

"I openly talk to people about that and specifically with people that are very enthusiastic about this being the next big wave, and I just ask, can you prove to me that this is not a scam? And they say yeah because the code is safe," he said.

"And I say, OK are you absolutely sure that this code can’t be changed, because I don’t know the code and I don’t know the technology behind the code, but I have to trust it to use it so how are they going to convince people all over the world that this is trustworthy if there is no government behind it?"

In the case of PLEX, the "government" behind the currency is CCP Games itself. Since the value of PLEX is one month of game time, and that one month has a set value, that unit of PLEX will always be tied that particular value. As long as people want to play the game PLEX will have value to them, so a strong game will lead to a strong value for PLEX.

"That’s the trust. They know if they buy a PLEX, the PLEX will be redeemable for ISK in the future," Dr. Gudmundsson explained. "They would rather keep a Plex on their account than too much ISK because ISK fluctuates in value as well. We have inflation in Eve, and that can change over time. So we can definitely say that the trust that we have from the players is a big part of the success."

CCP Games has a selfish desire to keep PLEX stable; as the value of PLEX is an indicator in interest in the game and the amount of people who want to play it. Governments also have a desire to keep the economy stable and to provide certain protections against things such as money laundering, fraud and tax evasion.

The people who designed bitcoin? That’s an open question, and if you look at bitcoin through the same lens of virtual currencies in Eve Online, bitcoin is in the stage that takes place right before the scammers cash out. This is, of course, operating under the assumption that the real world will mirror the in-game economy of a title about online space ships.

Do you use the "account" feature of bitcoin daemon to a multi user/wallet system? If so, tell me how it is going on.

I've been recommended to not do it. But i'm doing extensive tests and it showed no problems.

Many journalists have been lately saying that, but it seems they never cared to check fiat currencies.

The concept is absolutely the same.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Currency_appreciation_and_depreciation

Anyone who read newspaper everyday, is probably sick of reading headlines like "<your local currency here> appreciated with the entry of $? usd dollars in the country. Investors are optmistic."(purchase of local currency) or the other way around "<your local currency here> devalued with the escape of $? usd dollars from the country. Investors in panick. " ( selling of local currency )

It is the same for gold etc. Before someone says that, gold has an actual use, but bitcoins too.

Is not there a way to configure the bitcoind daemon to not allow negative balance on an account? How can i work around that?

Even if i check the balance before a send it still may get negative because the transaction fee is added to the value being sent...

14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / How to avoid negative account balance due to fee? on: March 06, 2014, 04:55:43 AM
Supposing an app(running btc daemon) where the user can withdraw all the funds from his account(sendfrom comand). When the suer withdraw 100% of his balance it may go negative due to the transaction fee, and such fee will be taken from the main account. How could i avoid that? I can't predict the fee if any as far as i know? What is the solution?
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / API call 'sendfrom' not working on: March 04, 2014, 05:27:35 AM
I make a 'getbalance' call to  be sure that there are enough funds, it works. Then i use 'sendfrom' to send from an account to an address and it just does not work:

$btc = "0.01000000";

$call = $api->call('sendfrom', $sender_account, $receiving_address, $btc,6);

it just returns null, so i have no idea what the error is.

I'm using the testnet.

18  Economy / Speculation / Real bitcoin market value after Mt. Gox on: February 28, 2014, 05:58:01 AM
The current value on the exchanges may be considered the market value as it is being sustained for now, but it is not the real market value. It is fake, referenced by a Mt. Gox fiction.

Mt. Gox had most of the transactions, value was defined by supposed offer and demand over there.

However Mt. Gox was a fraud, a ponzi and due to the previous two characteristics: a fictional market.

We don't have any idea of the real market value.

Bitcoin Holders Resigned to Losses as Japan Probes Mt. Gox

Japanese authorities began investigating Mt. Gox, the Tokyo-based Bitcoin exchange that shut down this week, amid calls for regulation of the digital currency as customers face losses.

The Financial Services Agency, Finance Ministry and police are examining the closure of Mt. Gox, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said today. Officials from the FSA, the ministry and the Bank of Japan said they didn’t have responsibility for overseeing Bitcoin. Mt. Gox has been subpoenaed by U.S. prosecutors, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Kolin Burges is among the customers who stand to lose their Bitcoins after Mt. Gox went offline amid reports that more than $390 million of the virtual currency may have been stolen. The news triggered renewed calls for more security and consumer protection from U.S. officials, while Democratic Party of Japan lawmaker Tsutomu Okubo called on his government to rectify the lack of regulation.
