1  Economy / Gambling discussion / AFC Asian Cup 2023/24 -- betting/match discussion only on: January 12, 2024, 04:16:29 PM

Self-moderated thread, and I'll lock it after end of comp. I doubt there's much interest, since there wasn't even a topic I could find in 10 pages!

First match has kicked off. Hosts Qatar are already leading 1-0 to Lebanon -- edit, disallowed, nil-nil. Four years ago I was confident of Qatar being a huge darkhorse and was right. A largely unknown team playing behind closed doors before they unleashed themselves.

Some interesting teams, including Australia who's got a naturalised Uruguayan 36-yr old leading the line. Some Southeast Asian teams dreaming to make it out of group stage to at least upset the powerhouses of Japan and South Korea.

Post your bets, discuss the gambling opportunities, but please don't spam.

P.S. It's sad. It's really sad. I tried searching for a post here and not one from a football confederation representing 1/3 of the world population. There's been discussion elsewhere and popularity on crypto gambling is apparently not here yet -- you bookmakers need to sit up and eat that big market in China at least, because football betting in the black market is huge!

Warning: Betnomi appears to have pulled off an exit scam. Pending resolution, I'm leaving this warning here and removing their name from thread title. While they did sponsor the 2022/23 UCL pool and paid up in full, I feel this warning is appropriate to prevent further potential for victims.

Ledger Nano X Giveaway

***Open only to paying participants of the Betnomi UCL Pool

Participants of the Betnomi UEFA Champions League Pool 2022/23 are now invited for a chance to win custom-made Betnomi-branded Ledger Nano X!

Bitcoin block #777,777 -- estimated to happen in ~20 days from now -- will be used to determine the raffle winner. This coincides with the Last 16 round of games.

Rules
1. The last 2 digits of the total fee in Bitcoin block #777,777 will be used to determine the raffle result. This means the two digits in the 7th and 8th decimal places. e.g. a fee of BT 0.12345600 means the winning number is "00". A fee of BTC 0.12345678 means the winning number is "78".
2. Pick a number between 00 and 99. Simply put your prediction in the following format:
Code:
Bitcointalk username:
Prediction:
3. You cannot pick a number that someone already has.
4. You can put your prediction any time before block 777,777 is mined.
5. All results, timestamps, etc. will use data from Blockchair Bitcoin explorer. In case of a tie, results will be taken from the next blocks until winner is found.
6. Winner will be announced here. I will ship the device to you from Europe, so obviously, will need a mailing address from the winner =)
3  Bitcoin / Electrum / Using specific input to pay fees on Electrum on: December 14, 2022, 03:38:56 PM
Hey. Sorry if there's already an answer (and please point me to it). And apologies in advance if this ends up being a trivial query...

I need to make a batch transaction using several inputs. They will be specific amounts that use up 100% of the input coins.

I failed to account for fees, however, and instead of sending an additional amount to one of these inputs, I'd prefer to simply use another input to pay for fees, leaving all the spend inputs intact.

so...

Inputs A, B, C, D... to be used to spend, plus Input 1 to pay fees (any balance from this sent back to me).

Is there a way to do this? Coin control only seems to let me select inputs to use, but not to determine which is used to pay for fees.

Perhaps, more importantly, does it make a difference in the coin trail? Or are all inputs combined anyway, before being split up?

*Responses for current Matchday hidden until deadline has passed

Please enter your picks for both events. Both event deadlines are kickoff, 19:00 UTC (forum time) on 30 April 2024. Late match submissions won't be counted. Remember to fill in bitcointalk usernames exactly as it is =) For Pot B, Leaderboards will be updated a day or two after final match in the matchday (usually within minutes if I'm online).

⚽Welcome to the UEFA Champions League Football Predictor Pool - 2023/24! The biggest club football tournament on the planet now knows all participants and the competition proper kicks off with Group Stage Match Day 1 starting 19 Sep 2023, with the final at Wembley on 4 June 2024.

I'm really pleased to announce that this season's sponsor is crypto casino and sportsbook, Rollbit, also the European betting partner of Italian champions SSC Napoli. We will play for $10,000 in sponsorship funds (USDT) plus $1,000 in freebets, and additional UCL-themed betting promos. I'd like to thank Hhampuz for his role in securing this sponsorship.

Since 2018, we've had a Bitcointalk predictor pool. The concept is simple: participants pay a fee that goes into a pot. Players predict results, winning points to climb the leaderboard. Winners then share the entire pot among themselves + sponsorship prizes.

Alongside the classic score prediction event on Superbru, this 2023/24 season introduces an odds-based prediction event.

  • How to Join?

➥ The entry fee is 0.002 BTC or approx. $50 (September 6th estimate). Payment should be sent to: bc1q3rrxzuknzfvlclprprjshqruvjhp5tettcthea. This is an escrow held by buwaytress.
➥ Participants will be required to create a Superbru account. This is for the score prediction event.
➥ Participants will also need to create a Google account. This is for the odds-based predictions event using Google forms.
➥ After you pay the participation fee to the BTC address above, I will send you an invitation to the Superbru pool(Send me a PM with tx ID and Superbru + Forum username).

  • How to Play?

Scores-based prediction event
Score predictions will be made using the Superbru sports prediction website. Why Superbru? It's been around since 2006, has one of the most reliable servers able to handle huge loads, and accepts players from any country. They use a simple leaderboard system awarding points for correct predictions on each game.

The more accurate the predictions, the more points. 3 points for exact scores | 1.5 points for close scores | 1 point for correct outcome | additional 1,2 and 3 points for reaching 5,8, and 10 correct outcomes in a MatchDay. New player? Read about Superbru scoring system here.

Leaderboards are automatically compiled by Superbru. Tiebreakers are automatically calculated -- players higher on the leaderboard are ranked higher.

Odds-based prediction event
1x2 predictions [regular time only] will be made using a Google form each Matchday. Enter precise bitcointalk usernames and check your choices before submitting! This post will always be updated with the current links.

1. Each Matchday, all participants will be assigned 10 points. Think of this as your bankroll to bet on football. They "stake" these points on Moneyline outcomes on any of the matches in that Matchday. Only one ML outcome per match allowed.
2. You can stake 1-10 points per match, or spread the points over many matches, but total staked points cannot exceed 10. Unused points don't carry over, each Matchday starts anew with 10 points per participant.
3. Leaderboard Points are earned on winning outcomes, according to the odds of those outcomes. Wrong outcomes earn 0 points. Tiebreakers are won by the player with the largest points accumulated in a single match. Failing that, earlier submission of that match wins.

Matchdays 1-6 are Group Stage legs (home + away). 16 games each.
Matchday 7 and 8 are the Last 16 legs. 8 games each.
Matchday 9 will be the QF. 8 games.
Matchday 10 will be SF legs + Final. 5 games.

  • What are the Prizes?

5  Bitcoin / Mining / Cost to Mine 1 BTC in every country on: July 11, 2022, 07:16:12 AM
Just came across this, published last month, but don't recall seeing anything like it on the forum, so just sharing.

Original article by 911 Metallurgist, it's got the rates for some other crypto too but I'm just going to share the one for Bitcoin: Cost to mine 1 Bitcoin in every country.

I knew Asia was expensive, but not THAT expensive. Also, I think this is the cost of grid electricity. I know in my part of the world, for example, some miners want to experiment with natural gas generators. Far, far cheaper, no one would plug into the grid!

Kuwait, though!

Just came across this. Not an endorsement of Nunchuk wallet, never heard of it till now, but thought I'd share. Cracked me up a little. Usually it's their neighbours acting dumb but guess any state's capable of this.

At least now they might learn something about Bitcoin wallets (right?)

10  Bitcoin / Press / [2021-14-08] Elliptic discovers site that checks how "clean" digital coins are on: August 14, 2021, 08:29:53 AM
Original story on BBC has such a clickbait title it's laughable so I put that instead, paraphrasing: https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-58176113

There's been a number of bots and software coming up over the past 2 years. I suppose once the guys like Elliptic (who is the source of the story) and Chainalysis all started working for regulators, there are others also now trying to come up with competing software. So this is definitely NOT the first service as claimed by Elliptic -- perhaps just one that's come to light, though until I try it myself, it could be, judging from the screenshots, the most advanced.

Quote
"It actually wasn't very good at identifying links to criminal sites. However, it will inevitably improve over time. So I think this is going to be a significant capability for criminals and money launderers in the future."

A whistleblower at Chainalytics also claimed their software was actually pretty shite. One suspects they're really not very good at detecting obfuscations.

At least one I've personally tried from users advertising on this forum, also not very good at all, but I've seen more on Telegram being advertised. Think they'll ever catch up?

11  Bitcoin / Press / [2021-07-16] Police confiscate, destroy 1000+ ASICs in Malaysia on: July 17, 2021, 01:34:12 PM
So 3 days ago, they raided a house and confiscated about 100 ASICs: Source: https://www.newsarawaktribune.com.my/police-find-bitcoin-mining-operations-in-house/

Apparently, police were led to many more earlier, in just one city, and two months' worth of raids led to this steamrolling event that video went viral yesterday. 1069 machines. A weird number. Mainly s3 I think? Now if they just put them to good use instead, tsk!

Can't find a useful way to share local news, but that's as far as it gets for now. Think the crypto media will get hold of it later.

Note: the crime was simply electricity theft, not mining itself.

13  Economy / Exchanges / US guys: is it really so hard to buy Bitcoin now? on: January 10, 2021, 02:47:17 PM
Just read this piece: now yes, it's click-baitish, and yes, it's a crypto journalist (and we know just how much of a variety they come, some do know their stuff and some probably never even owned Bitcoin) but apparently, even eToro now is blocking new Bitcoin buys and this crypto journalist can't even buy $100 in BTC.

I've got no problems and most people I know can't... P2P is always available. But I do wonder if retail Americans actually are finding it hard to come by actual BTC now. This true or is this article just someone who's not trying hard enough? I mean, if it's really the case of banks still blocking buys because they're considered high risk, then how exactly are people doing it in the US besides expensive ATMs, since p2p's not exacly available there?
14  Bitcoin / Press / [2020-07-28] LBC adds 2 Elliptic surveillance tools to "manage risk" on: July 28, 2020, 07:49:48 AM
AMLD5 continues its march. Not sure how it really changes how I use LBC, but LBC's now added 2 tools from Elliptic (which provides blockchain forensics/analytics).

From the Press Release: "By integrating with Elliptic Navigator to screen crypto transactions, and Elliptic Lens to screen wallets, LocalBitcoins have now automated their compliance and anti-fraud processes to drive cost savings and reduce risk."

If I understand this, now any deposits to and from dark markets will be tagged, just wondering if this might extend to casinos and others deemed "illicit".

15  Economy / Web Wallets / Is it possible for a single wallet to access all 3 Bitcoin address formats? on: July 03, 2020, 06:14:44 AM
Got a question for you tech people.

I recently came upon a new wallet: Bitamp, new guys so don't seem to have much said about them online. It's a web wallet, so am not about to put all my savings in there but it does have this curious feature of allowing a single seed phrase to access all types of addresses: P2PKH, P2SH, and bech32.

Now I know Electrum and a handful of other clients support all three. I can use my Electrum to receive AND send to any type of address. But not access to all three. For example, I need to have 2 separate Electrum seeds (1 for legacy and 1 for native segwit).

And I always thought it wasn't possible to have a wallet that has 2 different formats, but Bitamp apparently does (one seed, 3 different formats to choose from).

Would anyone know any other wallet like this as a software client, or if this is now actually possible to do in Electrum? Because I'd love to have ONE hot wallet with all types of addresses available.

Sorry if my technical phrasing's off.
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Pizza Day 2020 on me on: May 21, 2020, 10:15:12 AM
So we all know what happened on 22nd May 10 years ago: someone paid for 2 pizzas with 10,000 BTC. He actually made good on his offer at least two more times, too!

So did this in 2018 and it was nice to get pizza from someone from this forum.

My 2020 offer is simple, and similar. First person who posts here, saying they want to and are able to:
1. Send me 3 pizzas tomorrow at around 4pm UTC (that's server time). I'll share an address; and
2. Pay in Bitcoin (I'll show you a provider that accepts);

will receive back from me the full amount paid + 0.005 BTC. (Your estimated costs will be around 0.0025 BTC, 0.003 BTC max)

No escrow. This is a trust thing!

Just a couple of rules to "apply":
1. Reasonably active and constructive account only (that's at my discretion).
2. I can only take 1 offer.
3. You have a good suggestion for alternative? If it's for a good cause, I'll listen.

17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Public online auction for confiscated BTC tomorrow 25 Sep 2019 on: September 24, 2019, 06:20:22 AM
On behalf of the UK government: https://www.wilsonsauctions.com/timed-auction/listings?salecode=192398
GBP 500 deposit, passport/ID verification, proof of address, and you can bid on lots starting at 0.25 BTC.

No reserves, no limits.

I've always wondered how much people buy crypto at auctions for, and why police didn't simply just sell them. After 15% commission, the bitcoin must be going for max 80% of average price. Anyone know any info on this?

Would have participated if not for the lot size. Can't afford to bid for 0.25 BTC plus the deposit!

Anyone interested?

20  Economy / Service Discussion / Localbitcoins.com -- Update on Cash Trades, Verification 25/6/19 on: June 25, 2019, 11:43:14 AM
Been seeing an uptick in my trading activity since last week, and so am able to confirm more and more some of my observations that I thought I'd share:

1. Cash trades have been removed but you can easily find them if you search for ATM deposits. Many traders still display public message saying they're ready to trade cash in hand, and give details. Their trade info are clearly marked CASH only. Changing the currency to some of the more exotic ones finds you locations all over Europe. So they're definitely not gone, they're just a bit harder to find:)

2. Verification processes seem to have been updated since last week. When selling via SEPA (Euro), you're now being asked to verify if the name matches the transaction sender. There's also an additional box to tick if you verified ID as a seller (which I anyway always do for first timers).

Edit: this is the latest from them on verification: https://localbitcoins.com/blog/id-verification-update/
