161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / YouTube sued By Ripple on: April 23, 2020, 03:00:08 PM
In a twist of fate, Youtube was sued by Ripple's Brad Garlinghouse. The lawsuit was filed Northern District of California. And it alleges that Youtube did not prevent those fake "The XRP Giveaway" that made rounds in their social media resulting to lost of millions of XRP to those cyber criminals.

Here is the official documents: https://ripple.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/ECF-1-Complaint-20-cv-2747.pdf

To be honest, I really don't know if this will hold on court. But what we all know is that Youtube as of late is trying to clean up their mess by banning a lot of crypto channels.
162  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [Hack]: Lendf.Me lost $25 million on: April 19, 2020, 09:07:05 PM
Popular decentralized lending platform Lendf.Me was recently hacked and lost $25 million.

A Summary of the Attack on Lendf.Me on April 19, 2020

Quote
On 19 April 2020, Lendf.Me, the lending protocol in the dForce network, was attacked and approximately $25 million in assets were drained from the contract.

We know that the hackers utilized a vulnerability within the ERC777 standard of imBTC to execute a reentrancy attack. The callback mechanism of ERC777 (imBTC) enabled the hacker to supply and withdraw imBTC repeatedly before the balance was updated. More analysis on the hack can be viewed from PeckShield’s report.

The hacker(s) have attempted to contact us and we intend to enter into discussions with them.

https://medium.com/dforcenet/a-summary-of-the-attack-on-lendf-me-on-april-19-2020-e2f1c5d96640

So another sad day for crypto enthusiast as the hackers drained all the money, including the founding with a whopping $25 million. I really don't know what to say but damn those hackers. It was reported that the hackers have contacted them, but I don't know if he will give back the money or what. So the attack vector used is by introducing what we call a 'toxic asset' as a collateral and then supposedly borrow some funds, or shall we shall borrow all the funds.
163  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Remember WannaCry? one of hackers bitcoin address is on the move on: April 18, 2020, 12:56:03 PM
https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/bc1qnav5fjv4qcz4dlkyq6ncxa5an36ag7e0ee8klm

I'm sure everyone here is still aware and remember this WannaCry ransomware which hit us in 2017 and many fell victim and it was reported that this ransomware stole in the ball park number (low) of around $50k to a million. And last Thursday, one of its known addresses has woke up and the criminals may have a plan to cash it out very soon.

Preserving open source software for future generations

https://archiveprogram.github.com/

May nakita akong lumang thread circa 2012 pa: v0.1

Someone posted this, but probably this is still on the testing phase. You can read on the thread of that twitter post that there are more questions. One thing is for sure, this is very much centralised, just to let everyone know.  Smiley
166  Bitcoin / Legal / FSB on Global Stable Coins (GSC) on: April 15, 2020, 12:24:59 PM
Here is the consultative documents:

Quote
Risks and vulnerabilities raised by global stablecoins

2.1.Potential risks to financial stability from a GSCGSCs could pose financial stability risks through some key channels: First, if a GSC were used as a common store of value, even a moderate variation in its value might  cause  significant  fluctuations  in  users’  wealth.  Such  wealth  effects  may  be  sizeable  enough to affect spending decisions and economic activity. Wealth effects may be particularly pronounced in EMDEs where the likelihood of GSCs becoming a mainstream store of value may be higher than in advanced economies (AE). Second, if widely used for payments, any operational disruption in the GSC arrangement might have significant impacts on economic activity and financial system functioning. If users relied upon a stablecoin to make regular payments, significant operational disruptions could quickly affect  real  economic  activity,  e.g.  by  blocking  remittances  and  other  payments.  Large-scale flows of funds into or out of the GSC could test the ability of the supporting infrastructure to handle high transaction volumes and the financing conditions of the wider financial system.

2.2.Vulnerabilities arising from the functions and activities of a GSC arrangementWhile the significance of the individual channels discussed above depends on what a GSC is used for and how widely it is used, the vulnerability of the GSC itself to shocks depends on how the functions  and  activities of  the  GSC  arrangement  are  designed  and  performed.  A  scenario  analysis  conducted  by  the FSB  identifies  three  main  types  of  vulnerabilities.   This scenario analysis focuses on asset-linked GSCs that have reserve assets and where the user has the ability to redeem the GSCs.

https://cryptobriefing.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/financial-stability-board-addressing-regulatory-supervisory-oversight-challenges-globals-stablecoin-arrangements-pdf.pdf

Ok it looks like FSB is addressing everything related to GSC like risk and supervisory and oversight challenges. I'm still trying to digest everything, and I'm no expert here. But I don't see any impact at all with crypto in general, specially bitcoin.

What are your thoughts?

168  Local / Pamilihan / My Road to Legendary Rank on: April 08, 2020, 03:14:12 AM

So talagang mahirap din talaga magpa rank up, kailangan talagang tiyagin mo linggo linggo.

Maraming salamat ulit.

173  Economy / Scam Accusations / {Warning}: Fake Trezor (geo-target) on: April 03, 2020, 12:53:50 PM
There is a new phishing attack the cyber criminals are carrying out, through geo target.

This is one example. Go to https://www.google.com.hk/ and type "Trezor". And then the first thing that you will notice is this ad.

And when you click it, you will be redirected to this website. The website will give you a 403 Forbidden Error if it detected that you are not from the location .hk (hence geo-target).

Obviously, this is a phishing website and I do hope that some of our friends in Hong Kong will not fall for this trick.

175  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Nicolas van Saberhagen = Satoshi? on: April 02, 2020, 03:46:18 PM
According to this report, the author of of Monero's white paper and Satoshi himself maybe one and the same person/group.

Quote
Bitcoin appeared during a financial crisis on October 31, 2008, with the release of a whitepaper authored by the unknown Satoshi Nakamoto. Three years later, December 12, 2012, saw the presentation of the technology behind the cryptocurrency Monero in a whitepaper authored by the unknown Nicolas van Saberhagen. Historical research and textual analysis now indicate Satoshi Nakamoto and Nicolas van Saberhagen may have been the same person or group.

Nakamoto, despite celebrity-level fame, has eluded identification. He, she, or they are largely defined through the document “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System,” called the Bitcoin Whitepaper (PDF). It describes the multiple parts a cryptocurrency, including the blockchain and the proof-of-work algorithm that secures it without a central authority.

Saberhagen’s CryptoNote whitepaper, “CryptoNote 1.0,” also defined a new cryptocurrency, one focused on privacy and empowerment. It improved on Bitcoin by changing the blockchain structure and using a new proof-of-work, addressing issues that had arisen since Bitcoin’s invention. It also made a number of smaller enhancements to Bitcoin, like simplifying transaction scripts and dynamically adjusting block reward and size. The CryptoNote Whitepaper led to the creation of Monero.

The author of the Bitcoin Whitepaper had clear motive to write the CryptoNote Whitepaper (PDF). In a newsgroup posting on August 13, 2010, Nakamoto first posted the concepts for privacy in cryptocurrency that would later appear in the CryptoNote Whitepaper: the ideas of stealth addresses, which hide receivers in a cryptocurrency transaction, and ring signatures, which hide senders. Also, by the time of the CryptoNote Whitepaper, Nakamoto had witnessed the struggles with Bitcoin’s block size changes (Nakamoto himself stealthfully inserted a 1 MB block size limit into the Bitcoin codebase in 2010) and mining reward halving that the new whitepaper tackled.

https://www.monerooutreach.org/stories/satoshi-van-saberhagen.html

I'm not familiar with Saberhagen, but maybe someone here who have been following Monero from the very beginning can shed some light on this.

177  Other / Beginners & Help / {Warning}: Fake Bitcoin Transaction accelerator on: March 27, 2020, 12:19:47 PM
I saw one newbie in the Bitcoin Discussion board complaining about the fees. And it looks like the difficulty has dropped significantly, Yesterday, in three separate cases blocks were mined after more than 1 hour of delay.. So this got me thinking, that maybe scammers are going to exploit this one and put up a website to somewhat accelerate the transactions. We all know that during the height in 2017, many services has been offered here, but I high doubt that it is effective, unless you have direct connections to mining services. Anyways, here are some scam websites as far as bitcoin transaction accelerator is concern.

Code:
 Phishing site: http://bitcoin-transaction-accelerator.com/accelerator/

The sample transaction id I put is from the scammers themselves, just look at the bitcoin address,
Quote
Transactions 921
Total Received 17.63153023 BTC
Total Sent 17.62703662 BTC
Final Balance 0.00449361 BTC

Lots of people have been falling for this trick, asking for 0.001 BTC. I highly doubt that they really did help you out accelerating your transactions here. Same bitcoin address being used.

Second one, they step it up, using viabtc

Code:
http://viabtc-transaction-accelerator.com/accelerator/

Bitcoin Address:
Code:
3NYKHbX3zRbcZeASxjZmb4bpF8kZytnuvi

Another one:

Code:

Just a gentle nudge to every one here, don't trust this kind of so called accelerator. You can used https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#0,24h to check you clogged the network and see what is the best fee, depending on your needs.
178  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Do Holders actually bought BTC during the crash? on: March 26, 2020, 11:45:36 AM
According to reports by Arcane Research, Holders are buying based on their metrics, Hodler Net Position Change.

Pretty obvious though, I mean if you are a long term HODLer, you are waiting for this kind of opportunity to fill in your bags and accumulating. And probably those who have sold-off during the panic has somewhat regret their decision to do so.
179  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Logo: #90 on Fortune's top 100 greatest designs on: March 26, 2020, 10:59:48 AM
According to Fortune, the BTC logo ranked number 90 greatest designs of modern times. Number (1) is Apple's Iphone and then (2) the Macintosh, (3) is Google, (4) Eames Fiberglass Armchair and then (5) is Sony Walkman TPS-L2.

Do you agree that BTC should be in the lower bracket? or should be ranked higher?
