41  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: $0.85 transaction fee is absolutely ridiculous! on: June 11, 2017, 09:21:03 PM
I can't believe anyone still tries to rationalize and defend these high fees. Do we have to wait until it gets to $100 per transaction before people say enough is enough?

Bitcoin should be accessible to everyone but with the current fees its already becoming less and less the case.
42  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is playing casino games online a good idea? on: June 11, 2017, 09:17:03 PM
Playing online Casino I think  is a good idea to kill boredom if you know you can control yourself.  It is one way of killing boredom when you are alone and is quite stressed on your work.  Aside from playing games, thrill brought by betting in an online casino helps to remove strain and stress from workloads.

Well if you can control yourself is definitely the key thing and that requires not getting too caught up and excited in the betting.

For sure the online business has opened up doors to those people who didn't have access to any forms of gambling in the past, plus with bitcoin we can truly do it anonymously and in a provably fair setting.
43  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BBQCoin, the coin you want to eat. on: June 11, 2017, 09:10:59 PM
Are people trying to revive this delicious coin? I'm pretty sure I've lost my wallet file from years ago since I've changed laptop so many times. If it moons I'll go cry in a corner.  Grin
44  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum in 5 years on: June 11, 2017, 09:08:04 PM
I wonder how many ETH holders are making advertisement, with the hope to influence on the price? Smiley

ETH holders obviously want the price to increase but ultimately predictions so far out are ultimately useless, no one can even predict the price in a months time.
45  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: About the Bitcoin fork, why August 1st ? on: June 11, 2017, 09:06:12 PM
I have been trying to read about the Bitcoin fork, and while I don't fully understand it yet, there is one thing that confuses me most, and that is the date August 1st . Why is it said that it will be August 1st the fork will happen? How do they know the date, and is it possible it could happen before or after this date?

Due to the deadlock between different factions on how to upgrade bitcoin to handle a higher number of transactions some users have decided to run a user activated soft fork (UASF) with a fixed date on it. This means that those who support UASF will stop validating bitcoin transactions from those that don't accept segwit.
46  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you own your private keys with Desktop Wallets? on: June 11, 2017, 09:01:03 PM
From what I have heard Desktop Wallets are supposed to be good because "you are in control of your own keys". But I have never seen a private key when I have downloaded a desktop wallet. Sometimes you get to make a seed, which I think is the same thing (?) , but often you only get to backup a file. Is that file your private key then?

Yes that backup file has the information for your private key embedded on it and usually encrypted with a password in addition. Its also possible to get the raw private key (string of letters and numbers) but depends on which wallet you use.
47  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monaco, TokenCards and Tenx on: June 11, 2017, 08:56:21 PM
https://www.tenx.tech/ --> pre-sale starts monday
https://tokencard.io/ --> launched with 12.7m raised in ico, currently at $0.878465 per token, with a $20,770,476 market cap.
https://mona.co/ --> in ico, currently with 46460.02 ETH raised.

What are your thoughts on them? Their offers are relatively similar..

The payment card business is so huge that there can easily be several competitors, in the fiat world you already have visa, MasterCard and american express competing with each other and there's no reason there can't be several crypto based visa cards too.

As per my signature I've obviously opted for monaco but I don't see the others can't be successful as well.
48  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can bitcoin hit 3500$ in 2018?  ??? on: June 11, 2017, 08:53:25 PM
Its looking more and more likely by the day that we will see $3500 and it could already be this month cause prices seem to easily rise 10 or 20% in under a week these days.

I know I will be holding out for much more than that and I think the sentiment is shared by most people as well.
49  Economy / Economics / Re: volatility and transaction fees... on: June 11, 2017, 08:50:44 PM
transaction fees: again has no effect on bitcoin's value. people investing in it are making so much more profit that they won't care about paying $1 or so for a transaction fee. imagine investing $100 in bitcoin and have it doubled in a month, you do honestly care about $1 fee! what if you invested $1000, $5000,...

Nope. High transaction fees hinder adoption and prevent bitcoin from achieving its true potential.
You talk about people investing $100, but what about people who want to invest $2. High transactions fees will surely deter them.
And there are probably a billion people like that.

I agree and part of the problem is that people don't want to see the problem. In the end we may not get a solution until the price of bitcoin crashes and miners will have no choice but to either go offline or accept a compromise.
50  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Tezos discussion on: June 11, 2017, 07:49:39 PM
this project is very hot ,i think it will be sold out all token shortly

100% agree. I bet that it breaks previous ICO records.

You can't sellout something with no cap.

Caplessness is biggest disadvantage of this coin..

It means it can't be flipped soon after the ICO but if the money is well spent and the project is successful uncapped could turn out to be a long term advantage.
More concretely? How limitless supply can turn into advantage for this coin?

Check their development plan on the website they've listed how they intend to spend money dependent on how much they receive. More funds means they spend more on various parts of the project which can lead to a better product and more awareness of it.

Now whether you believe they can spend so much money efficiently or not is a different matter and this is where I am a bit skeptical.
51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Tokens that are doing well during this altcoin massacre — Steemit on: June 11, 2017, 07:47:07 PM
I do not think this is a massacre, you are making the problem more serious, but in fact, it is perfectly normal.

Yeah we've had much worse days than today, ones where literally everything save for one or two coins are in the red by double digits.
52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ICONOMI - Digital Assets Management Platform on: June 11, 2017, 07:42:40 PM
Quote me in two to three months. ICN platform failure will signal the start of the entire ICO bubble crash.

What kind of failure, ICN worth a lot more than the ICO price mate.

With each passing day, the technical debt of many projects is increasing. Very few, if any, have a working product or service. But that's not even the worst part. When/if they DO come out with a 'working' product or service, you will witness the greatest problem to be slammed down on all of crypto: no one gives a fuck about usecases or the functionality of projects like WAVES/LISK/ICONOMI/DASH/GOLEM/AUGUR/WHATEVER, people only want fuckyoumoney returns on their 'investment'. This realisation, that the market consists predominantly of investors and not people actually wanting to use the blockchain tech, will send everything tumbling down save for the FEW and RARE serious projects.

When the crypto bubble bursts this is exactly what will happen and in my opinion the projects that do survive and that will still thrive after are the ones that actually connect the blockchain to real world services that people not already familiar with crypto will want to use.

54  Economy / Economics / Re: Do you think billionaires invest in BTC? on: June 11, 2017, 07:36:25 PM
I just always wonder if those billionaires still invest in btc. Do they even know btc exist?

I think that they will not risk so much. They have their own established business and they will not throw their money into virtual currencies.

I'm pretty sure they have started to invest portions of their wealth into bitcoin as a means of diversification from traditional assets but you are right no billionaire would ever risk their wealth on something as volatile as bitcoin.

Actually I'm not sure if its even realistically possible to buy a billion dollars worth of bitcoin without creating a major pump all by yourself.
55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: | STRATIS | The first blockchain developed for businesses |Full POS on: June 11, 2017, 07:33:57 PM
I predicted the bounces very well though, and profited.  Nothing wrong with that.  If you want to buy high and average down on crashes, go for it.  I think it's far smarter to flip.  But if you got in early on the ICO I respect that too.
Please go to the speculation thread. There is an entire subforum here for speculating on price. There are several threads there.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=224.0

It's inappropriate to come on this subforum talking price and  annoying people then telling us all how clever you are.
With all the respect, I disagree. Moon talks are allowed here, but a bit sceptical talks are not?

I am holding a lot of STRAT, I do not wish the dips, but I think the most valable coins do not need circlejerking.

It is refreshing to hear talks like from coinbiz.

And yes, if anyone thinks the way up will be without huge dips, he is not sane.

I think everything except BTC is way overvalued, but stratis probably way less than ETH. Let's see how they deliver.

Absolutely. It is refreshing to hear from coinbiz (and other skeptical bitcointalk-forummers) , else this is just a circlejerk positivity fest.
And that bothers me, it's just not believable.

I like Stratis as much as most of other investors but you should see the kind of circlejerk that goes on in the Stratis slack. Its the reason I could no longer find myself staying there, all anyone ever talks about is how high it will go. As much as I want to agree it will move up I'd rather a community that welcomes discussion and reasons why it could do the reverse so people have the maximum information.
56  Other / Off-topic / Re: if you could live anywhere on: June 11, 2017, 07:31:12 PM
It depends on how much money I would have. There are cities that you need a lot of money to enjoy the city (like Monaco).

Yeah Monaco is great if you have unlimited money, but if you are restricted then a cheap foreigner friendly country is best. I find that Thailand is suitable for this.
57  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: can gambling give you lessons in life? on: June 11, 2017, 07:29:44 PM
Yes, gambling can teach you not to succumb to emotions and not spend all your money on entertainment so as not to be upset.
You are right, also gambling can teach someone gamblers to not be greedy, because greed is the worst problem when we talk about gambling. So with these lessons you can build your experience and to control yourself even in the worst situtations of gambling.

Greed brings out the worst in us and leads us to failure. The problem is I find gambling encourages it rather than teaching us to control it.
58  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Aragon Speculation on: June 11, 2017, 07:27:35 PM
OK, BTC was once pennies, now is $3000

I get it now, Aragon will be $500000000000000000000000000000.

HODL guise. We all gonna make it.

Ok so how about you give me your reasoning why Aragon should perform worse in the next 6 months than ETH did in the last 6 months instead of some worthless sarcasm.

Sounds like he is sour because he didn't buy in during the initial coin offering.

The only scenario I see Aragon not moving much higher than its current level by the end of the year is if ethereum crashes big time.
59  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will we ever see bitcoin lower than 1000$? on: June 08, 2017, 02:18:55 PM
My bet is that $2000 will be the new low though maybe perhaps I'm too optimistic but we definitely won't go lower than $1500. Weve seen time and time again bitcoin pumping up to new all time highs just to see the new low higher than the previous all time high.
60  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mark Cuban's attack on Bitcoin on: June 08, 2017, 02:16:15 PM
"Mark Cuban has attacked Bitcoin on Twitter, claiming it is not a currency, it is a bubble, and that the whole system of valuation concerning it is wrong. But is he right?"
https://futurism.com/mark-cuban-asserts-that-bitcoin-is-not-currency/

His comment caused the Bitcoin price to drop before it hit $3000.  He said Bitcoin's increasing price now is a bubble.  What do you think?

What makes you think it is his comment specifically that caused bitcoins price to drop because a lot of popular people have repeated this line many times without it having an effect on the price. Perhaps it was just a coincidence.
