For posterity: "The Toomin brothers, Bitcoin Classic's main devs are debating Core devs and trying to show them the light. It gets quite fishy at the end."
62  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So the bitcoin classic (2MB) coup was compromised? on: January 20, 2016, 04:16:49 PM
As a result of the Beijing conference, the mining farm agrees to stick with bitcoin core and 1M plan.
Apparently they couldn't afford to lose the user base and the risk of their ASICs being rendered useless.

Would you please tell us who said what? And which mining farm they represent? The site has gone down and taken the image with it.

Great stuff, Lawrence!
64  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 2013 Pieter Wuille is not the same 2015 Pieter Blockstream Wuille on: January 20, 2016, 09:46:38 AM
2MB this, 2MB that, and blah blah Blockstream...

my question is, what innovations and developments does this thing have ?

who's the talent ?

1MB more ? is that it ?

its stepping stones..

people want more transaction capacity so that the greedy miners dont keep increasing fee's due to only letting in firstclass transactions.
imagine it like a train with 4000 seats..
miners give 95% of seats to first class customers and then allow just 200 economy customers to stand in the aisle..
but if the train had 8000 seats, then the demand and desire to pay first class prices will drop as everyone can sit comfortable without delay or crowding..

because right now in 2016, even in 2017 and 2018.. transaction fee's are not in reality a proper income for miners anyway.. they dont care about the fee's for financial gain. to them its about a power struggle and excuses to not do their natural job of solving blocks which are paid for by the block reward. they wil find anyway to do the minimum.. and blame it on capacity rather than incompetance or lack of morals

so after the increase, when the capacity excuse gets mooted,  then the community can concentrate on other features of actual benefit, relaxed that miners are not pricing people out of using bitcoin.

another bandcamp want the capacity issue to continue to irritate people that way people will go running over to their liquid altcoin, leaving bitcoin destitute.. with transactions that cant be validated and a high transaction fee... unless your using their biased features..

so the main smart community just want a basic improvement. nothing singing or dancing. to then allow them to make proper features of actual benefit that wont be biased to one side or the other. features that any and all implementations will want to include.. rather then features only available to a few

Let me get this straight: Asslic puts all the big, greedy miners in their place yet these same big, greedy miners are the ones supporting it? Your explanation is a trainsmash, try again.
65  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ToominCoin aka "Bitcoin_Classic" #R3KT on: January 19, 2016, 11:22:29 PM
The lulz will be of gigantic proportions!

Like I wrote elsewhere, about the possible change to Bitcoin's PoW:

Looks viable, even brilliant.

Most users are in Bitcoin for the decentralisation. This would cut at the heart of mining centralisation with a chainsaw, ensuring all savvy users stick with Core. Plus, anyone who missed the early days of Bitcoin mining might get a second shot...

But all this happens only if miners foolishly support further centralisation and demobcrazy in the form of Asslic.

If miners stick with Core, they get to keep their valuable monopoly. But if they push for Asslic, they permanently hitch their wagon to that dubious project. If Asslic fails, they fail, no takesy backsies.

Asslic's future plans, ie. selectively copying the Core devs' homework for as long as they can get away with it, would likely fall apart with this change too.

Confirmed: Hearn = Circle = Goldman = shitlords

Circle, Bitreserve, and BitPay are turning their backs on bitcoin

Quote
Circle — which makes a mobile bitcoin wallet and is backed by Goldman Sachs — recently began accepting US dollars and when I met the founders in London recently they told me that bitcoin was just the first use-case of their technology.

The future, according to CEO Jeremy Allaire, lies in using the technology that underpins technology, called the blockchain, to make sending any form of money as easy as sending an email. He didn't want to talk about bitcoin.

Allaire says it's always been Circle's aim to go beyond bitcoin but that hasn't always been obvious to outsiders.

How many silver shekels did Goldman pay Mikey for betraying Bitcoin?

Oh right I forgot...that's none of our business...we should only worry about conflicts of interest involving companies named Blockstream.   Roll Eyes

circle bitpay 'und' al. shitlords are burning cash like crazy mofos.

Quote
The success of BitPay has exactly zero to do with the success of Bitcoin, is the problem. They're trying to leech it, which only works for so long. What's worse, their burn rate is killing them... more properly put, the reasoning is that they will never make in the course of their business enough money to pay back that round of investment.

no wonder they finally exit bitcoin as nobody uses their purchases tracking service, especially when hoarding bitcoin is the only game we are playing here.

bitcoin 'debit' card they said.. either they think we are retards or they just are.

ps: im more and more encline to put some satoshis on the F.DERP fund... Grin (certainly no investment advice here Lips sealed)

Hey, that's one of my old articles. Doesn't seem to be loading right now, seems CCN has fallen over.

Not sure what all this argument achieves - XT was crap and Gavhearn is gone, time to move on.

Seems to me we should be pushing for a fix to the Transaction Malleability bug so we can get the Lightning Network running. It needs to be fixed anyway.
68  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How much would you trust trezor? on: November 22, 2015, 05:19:22 PM
Just discovered the Trezor connects to the Bits of Proof server owned by Blythe Masters. I understand that the server doesn't hold the private keys but this still makes me trust Trezor less.
69  Economy / Economics / Re: How much Coca Cola can you buy with 1 Bitcoin in your country? on: November 20, 2015, 07:44:23 AM
ok folks this could turn out to be a great thing..

lets pick a few internationally standard products and create a consumer price index for bitcoin:
1) 2litre bottle of coca cola (the most standardized size internationally)
2) apple ipad
3) McDonalds bigmac meal
4) subway foot-long

then put the values together to equate to a bitcoin consumer price index for each region

I like this plan. Good idea, OP.

I'd make it 1 liter of Coke (for ease of calculation) and take off Subway. How about 1 liter of gasoline / petrol instead? 1 kWh of electricity is another possibility.
70  Economy / Economics / Re: How much Coca Cola can you buy with 1 Bitcoin in your country? on: November 20, 2015, 07:32:37 AM
In South Africa, 1 liter of Coke is 13 ZAR. 1 Bitcoin is currently worth 4,437 ZAR. So 1BTC buys 341 liters of tooth decay.

edit: rgm108, howzit boet. sure about those numbers?
71  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where is Bitcoin? Some insights. on: November 17, 2015, 09:31:13 AM
Nothing surprising in my opinion. USA and Europe leading the pace! Pretty much where the Internet is most advanced we see the most advancement in Bitcoin as well!

Not when it comes to market shares, which is pretty much important asset. Bitcoin exchanges are basically getting bounced up as chinese exchanges dictate, since most of the volume is coming from their direction,
as well as virtually every single hype or drop. Bitcoin nodes distribution is another thing tho, probably because there's no profit to be made there by running one of them.

I find this normal as well. Every 5th person on this world is Chinese so it make sense that with out limited user base, there are many Chinese users, even though this is still a small percentage compared to their total population.

Also don't forget that Chinese exchanges don't have trading fees so they can trade back and forth and raise their trading volumes which I am sure they are doing to some extent!

Echoing that point about Chinese volume. Consensus among traders is that a lot of it is "fake" or spam volume. I can't see any way to properly account for it. The exchanges would have to set fees for us to get a clearer picture.
72  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BED, the Bitcoin Escort Database on: November 17, 2015, 09:06:02 AM
The name is pretty good to be frank, clever use of initials but I still think Bitcoin is not a better alternative than cash for such thing. I mean sure, you can easily tumble the coins, but it's too much hassle, why not just pay with cash?

We need more fungibility with Bitcoin, before one feels safe paying such service with it. Of course when cash is removed by governments Bitcoin will be the king of all of this, but we need more fungibility nonetheless.

Yeah, it's a good point. From the client side, especially those concerned with privacy, cash remains the best option. Sure, you can tumble your coins or send them through Monero as I recommend but cash is just less hassle.

It's on the provider side that Bitcoin offers better value than cash. Providers don't have to worry about accepting counterfeit cash or becoming a target for criminals by storing lots of cash. I'd estimate a popular escort could easily accumulate $10,000+ in a week. That's a tempting target, especially as in many places escorts are unlikely to seek help from law enforcement. Banking such amounts also presents a big problem in areas where the laws are unfriendly. Also, the nature of escort work makes physical security difficult. If women are worried about security, they must hire a bodyguard or work for some tough guy who takes a big cut of their earnings.

Bitcoin reduces these risks and costs for escorts, so in time I expect they'll offer Bitcoin discounts. Discounts will make it worthwhile for clients to spend the extra 5 minutes it takes to set up an anonymous Bitcoin payment. It'll take time and work to get this process started but in the end everyone wins.

Announcing BED, the Bitcoin Escort Database

Looking for an erotic service provider who accepts Bitcoin? Go to BED, the first Bitcoin Escort Database!

Simply browse to your location then click an escort’s name or agency to reach a site with her images and contact details.

Why BED?

Search engines fail at cataloguing social media and online classified adverts, where escorts usually advertise their services. For example, the Google query “Bitcoin escorts” finds articles on Bitcoin’s growing presence in the adult industry - but no actual contacts beyond a couple of UK agencies!

BED currently lists 104 adult female escorts across Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania! South American and African listings are no doubt coming soon. Finally, BED is free to view and listing services is also free!

Improve BED

BED’s funding is derived from limited ads and affiliate links to privacy-respecting Bitcoin exchanges. If you know of a Bitcoin company or exchange which should (not) be included, kindly get in touch.

If you know an escort who’d benefit from listing her services or accepting Bitcoin, please refer her to BED.

If BED proves popular, the intention is to switch to a decentralised platform with expanded functionality. Get in touch if you’d like to help or donate: 19p4sbWiRdTRsimXWtJPphKfo2CcUFeeXf

BED’s Purpose

Incorporating the adult industry will spread Bitcoin among users with an economic interest in maintaining privacy / fungibility. Greater adoption and support for censorship-resistance can only help Bitcoin.

As for helping sex-workers; darknet markets have proven that Bitcoin can achieve significant harm reduction in areas where government prohibition leads to worsened outcomes. Indeed, Bitcoin has already helped numerous escorts following VISA and Mastercard’s embargo of Backpage. Without Bitcoin, many independent escorts would have been forced onto the streets, where the risks are far greater.

Feedback

Feedback regarding the site is welcome!

haha, thanks for the info. I don't need an escort, but I'm glad there are more and more services accepting Bitcoin.

The site looks good, but why only England and Germany in the EUROPE section?

I haven't found data for the rest of Europe yet! It's mostly a language problem. I only speak a little French and Spanish so I can't easily search outside of English sites. Hopefully as word spreads people from these countries will contact me.

You could try posting requests for help in the foreign language boards here. Some of them will understand English, or you could use Google translate to make a post in a foreign language, although it's not perfect at translations. That could help fill in the gaps in the EUROPE section.

Thanks, that's a very good suggestion. I'll get on it tomorrow!

Thanks, this is really helpful.

1) What colours and layout would you recommend? I'd like to make it as easy to browse as possible.

2) Yeah, that's because the lovely ladies of Bangkok Happy Time will travel throughout Asia or receive visitors in Thailand! It'll probably look clearer when there's more data to enter between Asia and Thailand.

3) Can you explain what you mean, maybe with a screenshot? I've only tested it in Firefox so far and it looked consistent across pages.
Your very welcome, glad I could be helpful

1) Honestly speaking I'm not good with coding stuff (only know basic html) and I couldn't find where should I re-edit the color on the source code of your website so not sure If it would be a good match but maybe for the background #4e6f82 and for the tables itself, the white and light blue is fine

2) Oh so that's why, I thought there was a mistake Cheesy

3) I'm using chrome and this is the result I get for instance:
https://i.imgur.com/Z34w8P9    more scrolling even though there are nothing else below
https://i.imgur.com/HEZyDEh   when scroll down all the way, too much empty space there
http://imgur.com/L5uTCIp       all together combined

1) I will experiment with background colour changes. I'm using white for now because if the page is resized for different resolutions, at least there won't be a visible border.

3) Thanks again, I've fixed this problem! There's now a stray "1" on the North America page but I'll fix this next update.

America is not the world, prostitution is legal in some form or another throughout most of the world. Thus, not "criminal activity".

You might be able to set something up on OpenBazaar at some point.
Prostitution is also legal in America: Nye county, Nevada.  So your anti American bash failed.

Exactly zero of the whores listed on his website are in locations where it is legal.  Even if it were 'legal' - it remains just another very sleazy use of bitcoin which brings further ill repute to the community.

Actually there are 7 really beautiful women in Nevada! You seem rather tense so maybe you should contact one.  Wink

The idea is nice although the site itself needs some modifying in order to make it look much professional and nice looking

1) Even though this link is not the landing page of your website, it's still the landing page of the Escort Database your trying to introduce and it really looks crowded for some reason and the white background blend with the chosen colors for the tables, does hurt the eyes (too much white is not good specially when one of the background table colors are already white)

2) On the Asia tab, all the information's are repeated twice

3) Too much empty space on the end of each tab pages (Except in Europe tab)

Announcing BED, the Bitcoin Escort Database

Precisely what bitcoin needs, yet another sleaze-ball developing another sleazy use for the system with associations to criminal activity.  I can just see the headlines now.  wtf?  With all the really good uses out there, why do you insist on chasing this garbage?

Look, prostitution's the world's oldest - and therefore most resilient - profession. It's the honey badger of work! So it just makes sense to link it to Bitcoin. And if Bitcoin can make things safer and easier for clients and providers, that's a really good use.
79  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BED, the Bitcoin Escort Database on: November 16, 2015, 03:51:59 PM
interesting idea and maybe this will grow to something bigger (haha, yes i know... Cheesy)

the real killer app would be indeed to make it a decentralised platform in the future.

Thanks! Wink

Yeah, I'm dreaming of a mobile app which handles the whole process from A to Z in an easy, anonymized way. The only friction involved should be the sexy kind!
