261  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Looking for good, trusted VPN, details inside. on: August 03, 2013, 10:24:34 AM
Hello fellow bitcoiners,

As the title states, I'm looking for a good, trusted VPN service, with as many server locations as possible. I'd like to pay $40 (~0.40 BTC) per year or less. I've seen quite a few on the bitcoin wiki but I have no ideas which to trust and which is good.

I'd appreciate any and all suggestions. I would also like to know which sites to avoid if you know of any Smiley

Thanks Smiley

Zorro VPN all the way!

They accept Bitcoin and have received nothing but glowing praise from BitcoinTalk members.

They offer great speeds and easy configuration of multiple VPN chains (into TOR even). For serious anonymity, you can easily set up a connection over 4 continents into TOR.

Cost is $15 per month but use my referral link to get 20% off. You can then try entering the discount code you'll find in the thread here, maybe you'll get up to 75% off for a time!

That's a steal for such a pro service.
262  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Opinions on Coinbase? on: August 02, 2013, 10:35:43 AM
Coinbase made my client, a newcomer to Bitcoin, wait a week for his coins only to deny him due to "high risk." His account is with a major bank and he's been conducting business online for years with no problems.

I didn't get paid and he received a bad first impression of Bitcoin. I am unimpressed by Coinbase, to say the least.

Coinbase didn't make your client do anything, the wait is standard for their service...Everyone who uses the service has this buffer time. Until they released the "Instant Buy" for Level 2 verified customers recently, this was their standard protocol and they didn't hide it.

Coinbase has openly responded about their fraud system and how the "High Risk" transactions are processed, they do not have a perfect system yet. If you were hired to consult or refer this client, it sounds like in this case you should be a bit more unimpressed in your ability than Coinbase's service.
The fact is, he was made to wait and this waiting period was imposed by Coinbase. It's their standard operating procedure, sure.

You misunderstand the situation and blame the victim. This "high risk" cancellation was arbitrary and ridiculous, as a long-established businessman my client is the exact opposite of high risk. No one likes to be tainted by such suspicions, so Coinbase really need to refine their anti-fraud system. I for one will likely steer clear of them in future due to this experience.
263  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Handmade African Bitcoin Keychains on: August 02, 2013, 09:50:13 AM
Wow these are hand made and you are only charging 0.08 Btc? wow.

It's a bit less than 0.08BTC at the current price (I need $8 to pay the crafters and make a small profit) for the handmade keychain. I think that's a good price seeing as metal ones go for about $10. While it's handmade, Benjamin has been making these for a long time and it's amazing how quickly he can bend the wire frame and string the beads. I'll take some pics of the process next time I'm there.

That woodcarving would be more like 0.8BTC + shipping (it weighs at least 5 kgs.)

If you like these crafts, you can check out a lot more in my other thread. Smiley

I can cast this anti-fiat honey badger joint-smoking Snowden masterpiece as an aluminium icon if anyone's into that.

Heh, they are glass.

are the beads plastic or glass?

Yes.  Wink

I forgot to mention, the idea is to get the crafters into selling the goods themselves, for Bitcoin ideally but also through ebay and so on. Benjamin seems interested in Bitcoin, I didn't have the time to explain it much further than "computer money" though. If there's reasonable demand, I'll start and document a project to introduce the crafters to Bitcoin trading and international shipping.

269  Economy / Marketplace / handmade African arts and crafts for Bitcoin (incl. pipes & stashboxes) on: August 01, 2013, 04:48:41 PM
Hey everyone,

I just put up a thread in the Goods section for beaded Bitcoin keychains made by hand here in South Africa.

I'm now going to show you some of the other cool stuff made by the crafters. It's all distinctive and interesting work, not too expensive either, so I hope you guys'll like it. Smiley Get back to me on anything you want and I'll phone up the craftspeople, work out price and shipping for you, and add the items to my Bitmit / Coingig stores so you can easily purchase via escrow.

This is a distinctive hand-carved wooden pipe for your smoking pleasure. We call it a "shalompie," you may know it as a one-hitter:

And here's an interesting carved and inlaid box with latch for your smoking supplies or whatever:

A man's braided-copper bracelet, simple but cool [I can also have this made as smaller full circle with an interior Bitcoin symbol made of gold glass beads. See my keychain thread.]:

These are stylish racks for holding your larger items, I'd say these make good fruitbaskets or fast-action storage devices for your best nunchucks:

Here's a rough-hewn woodcarving with the South African "Big 5" (Rhino, Lion, Elephant, Cheetah, Wildebeest) and the city of Pretoria in the background:

I have lots of stuff like necklaces, earrings, sandals and wooden / stone carvings on offer, let me know if you'd like pics of those. I can also have items custom made for you.

Hey guys!

I've been busy meeting with many local craftspeople to expand the Gold Rhino range. The plan is cool, handmade African items for Bitcoin.

First up, I can offer these cool beadwork keychains with the BTCitcoin logo. Benjamin kindly made this one for me:

Here's another pic for the heck of it:

Benjamin can customise the colours, size & materials (a sturdy braided-copper outer ring is possible) for you. The shiny [edit - glass] beads make finding your keys at night easier. They're also good Bitcoin conversation starters - the eyecatching beadwork and African origin story leads to explanation of the BTC symbol.

Price for one like this is about 0.08BTC. Postage included in that; these are small and light enough to go by letter. Check out the Bitmit and Coingig links here or in my sig for exact pricing.

And here's a pic I'm putting up just to show the level of skill on offer (sadly this item is probably too heavy for shipping). This is "Old Man of Africa," a woodcarving by Fungayi:

275  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: SELLING 4 BTC (paypal dwolla chase BOA amazonGC) on: July 23, 2013, 07:58:02 PM
stex2009 I am happy with your price and ready to proceed, ie. pass on BoA (if that account is ok with KingOfSports) payment details to my client.
276  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: SELLING 4 BTC (paypal dwolla chase BOA amazonGC) on: July 23, 2013, 07:32:49 PM
stex, the person making the payment is not myself but a client. He is a total Bitcoin novice so I'd rather do it this way to ensure all goes smoothly.
277  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: SELLING 4 BTC (paypal dwolla chase BOA amazonGC) on: July 23, 2013, 07:27:51 PM
KingOfSports I am happy with that, thanks!

It is now up to stex2009.
278  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: SELLING 4 BTC (paypal dwolla chase BOA amazonGC) on: July 23, 2013, 07:05:00 PM

279  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: SELLING 4 BTC (paypal dwolla chase BOA amazonGC) on: July 23, 2013, 07:02:44 PM
Still have coin to sell, stex2009?
280  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [WTS] 4.7 BTC for Cash Deposit on: July 23, 2013, 06:30:14 PM
Right, emailed him, should respond soon. If there's a Capital One branch near his location I think he'll go for it.
