1  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] KRAKEN.COM - Exchange Now Open with USD, EUR, BTC, LTC, XRP, NMC, XDG on: June 14, 2014, 12:40:21 PM
I apologise if my question was alredy asked and answered (i haven't visited the forum for a few weeks):
Why volume is not reported for Kraken instruments charted on tradingview, while it is reported on bitcoinwisdom?

Hi Loozik,

Volume is reported on TradingView. It's the first number reported to the right of "vol(...)" on the chart. Let me know if I'm not understanding your question.

Strange thing happens. I can't see volume when using Tor browser. when I switch to Firefox volume becomes visible. It seems to be an issue with either my Tor or with Tradingview.

We already had the patch in place before news of the bug went public.

How had you managed to find out about the bug before the news hit the front pages? From what I know even big corporations like Yahoo were not aware.
4  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin Core be compromised by Heartbleed - are private keys exposed? - How? on: April 11, 2014, 03:32:43 PM

Only the memory of the affected process is dumped, the rest of the system is safe.

So if the affected process happens to be firefox.exe then the attacker would get the passwords I use to login to exchanges and webmails, etc?
5  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin Core be compromised by Heartbleed - are private keys exposed? - How? on: April 11, 2014, 03:17:26 PM
Is this attack vector is possible?

1. Someone infects your computer with malware / you download malware yourself.

2. The purpose of this malware is to maintain an SSL connection between your computer and the attacker server or the purpose of this malware is to trigger such an SSL connection once every few hours.

3. Through this malware-induced SSL connection the attacker gains access to your RAM data on constant or periodical basis.

6  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Which Linux version / distribution is best for Bitcoin-Qt? on: April 10, 2014, 11:09:47 PM
Gus,

Many thanks for your input. Do we know what Linux distributions are used by core devs?
7  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Which Linux version / distribution is best for Bitcoin-Qt? on: April 08, 2014, 09:24:10 PM
Hi,

I want to buy a laptop that will be dedicated solely for Bitcoin purposes (running Bitcoin-Qt and trading on cryptoexchanges).

Please advise which one of hundreds of versions of Linux I should instal (which works best for my purposes).

Thanks

9  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Track down and confront Mark Karpele's wife and kid to get some answers on: March 27, 2014, 10:13:13 AM
I can't read Japanese so have to rely on Google translate, but the gist I'm getting on this article's second page is Mark got them out of the country in January before things hit the proverbial fan:

http://gendai.net/articles/view/newsx/148396

Can anyone say "flight risk" ?

It needs to be checked if Karpeles' wife and kid benefited from fraudulent conveyance. If so creditors can go after Karpeles' family to recover some losses.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MtGox announce finding of 200,000 lost BTC! on: March 21, 2014, 06:11:57 PM
Looks like someone realized his scam wouldn't work and quickly "coughed up" the private keys.

My thoughts exactly.

Get ready for a "refund and release" document that you will have to sign to have that 25% back.

Karpeles' lawyers forgot to arrange for Karpeles to resign from Gox Poland's board of directors on time (negative legal consequences - although unrealized yet - already occured for Karpeles under Polish Commercial Code which is applicable to all board of directors of companies registered in Poland). Polish Commercial Code originates from very harsh communist laws. President of Board can be jailed for defruading as little as USD 1k.

Even if criminal lawsuits against Karpeles fail in vanilla jurisdictions (Japan and USA), there is no fucking way he can escape multi-year jail service in Poland, even if he farts out those 25%. Trust me Japanese and American prisons are nice when compared to Polish ones.

This is great news Poland does not screw around apparently. Glad to be Aus/Pol and a little Italian.
I agree, thanks for the insight. This does me he would have to be extradited to poland tho correct?

Subpeaned to testify in Poland and arrested on spot or just extradited, depending on the findings of Polish prosecutors. From what I know Gox Poland is already being investigated by Polish prosecutors.
11  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: mtgox new update 21032014 on: March 21, 2014, 12:57:44 PM
Also, they "discovered" the 200k coins on March 7th, and they "forgot" to mention it in their US bankruptcy filing on March 9th, wtf?

Karpeles self-incriminated himself. There is no way he escapes the prison (at least for lying to the court) unless he finds all ''disappearded'' coins.

13  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Qt Bitcoin Trader [Open Source secure trading client for Mac/Windows/Linux] on: March 16, 2014, 11:38:12 PM
It is good to have relationships with exchanges, not only for Ighor but also for users of his application.

Exchanges will notify Ighor ahead of time about changes to their api, so when the change is live, Ighor will have changes to his application already made and bugs fixed, and we won't need to wait.

Besides, he worked hard, he needs to start earning money  Smiley
14  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Gov Most Certainly Seized Gox’s Coins on: March 16, 2014, 09:25:47 PM
The government certainly didn't steal the coins. With all the things it deals with, why would it bother its ass stealing from us via Mt Gox?

It makes no sense whatsoever.

(the first person to mention "fear of bitcoin" will die a horrible death)

Yeah, it makes no sense.

IMO, blockchain will buy Gox

If blockchain is to purchase Gox, it will be a temporary transaction, and later Gox will be re-sold to a bigger fish / an already arranged for final buyer.

Let's assume the collapse of Gox was orchestrated a long time before February - March 2014 by the final buyer of Gox. Then it would make sense for Gox to have Baker&McKenzie http://www.bakermckenzie.com/ as their law firm out of the blue. Baker&McKenzie specialize worldwide in mergers&acquisitions and in bankruptcy law.

Baker&McKenzie already represented Gox in a civil dispute with Coinlab back in September 2013 (before the supposed hack and later bankruptcy). Did somebody knew Gox would collapse and married Gox with Baker&McKenzie ahead of time?

I have doubts that exchanges are going to pay you to have their exchange added to the bot.

Let's wait and see. If Ighor enriches his app with charting, then his product would for sure be of interest to exchanges.

Bucketshops are paying hundreds of thousands of dollar to get Metatrader as a front-end for their clients (and partially a back-end for themselves). Why wouldn't bitcoin exchanges pay for having a decent front-end for their clients?

As far as I know there is currently one application, rtbtc, that has charts and order execution - the end user pays 20 bucks a month (rtbtc charts are very basic and low-quality).

Ighor follows a different business model in which the exchange pays for the front-end. In my opinion Ighor's product has potential (quality-wise, if charts are added) to kill rtbtc.
16  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Gov Most Certainly Seized Gox’s Coins on: March 16, 2014, 06:32:26 PM
the real truth is karpeles has the coins and is pretending other people have them.

You are probably correct, given the way Karpeles has been communicating with his customers.

he now intends to move ownership of mtgox.com to someone at a hefty price of 740,000+ coin at $650 each (over $480,000,000.)
no sane investor would pay half a billion for a domain name a couple servers and code that is slow. especially wrote in PHP.

No sane investor would purchase Gox in its current state! It needs to be cleared of debt first.

It might be the case though that MtGox's conditional purchase agreement was already signed (or will soon be signed) and one of the conditions is that Karpeles, before the transfer of shares to the new owner, is obliged to run Gox through civil rehabilitation and get all creditors haircut. If this condition (successful getting rid of debts through civil rehabilitation) is met then the new owner will assume control over drained and ''legally cured'' (protected from your future claims) Gox. We were led to believe Gox has only BTC 2,000 left (recovery plan) in its vaults and we'll get a 99% haircut. We are very sad.

It might be the case that MtGox's conditional purchase agreement provides for the buyer to capitalize Gox with some money, i.e. BTC 50,000 or BTC 100,000 so that we get ''only'' 95% or 80% haircut. We will happilly cheer the new investor / white knight / our saviour / whatnot. We will be very happy.

If this is the case Karpeles will avoid the hook. For all conspiracy fruitcakes: I do not claim that Gox will be purchased and later capitalized with your ''stolen'' / ''disappeared'' / ''unaccounted for'' coins.
17  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [GOX] Crime Scene Investigation, Case #MG744 on: March 14, 2014, 11:44:23 AM
Wouldn't it be sensible that someone who speaks Japanese contacts Japanese prosecutors to press criminal charges against Mark Karpeles (at least for lying to the court)? The more we wait the more evidence gets destroyed  Huh

That depends if you are more interested in getting your bitcoins or having a pound of flesh.

You know something that the public doesn't know?
18  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Help us to identify Mark Karpeles fraudulent past activity on MtGox. on: March 14, 2014, 12:57:00 AM
Who the fuck is Miss Whale?

A person who controls a traded instrument. On traditional markets this person needs to have about 50% of the assets to move the market (less if very smart). It is easier to move the market in bitcoin world, therefore no need for a high 50% control.

I know the meaning of the term "whale" (as applied in trading), but I have no idea who this Miss Whale might be...

Go to wall observer thread and you will know who she or her employees are.

Wall observer thread?

Yeah,

Look for people who write sensible stuff on threads not related to trading, but when they happen to open their mouth in the wall observer thread they suddenly lose their wisdom and write BS like ''a candle showed a weakness'' or ''EMA crossed SHITMA'' - stuff like that.

http://mtgoxlive.com/orders up, 17 hopeful suckers there now, me included. Could be hackers trying to trade fake frozen coins?

Could be Mark Karpeles trying to flashcrash btcusd on Gox to double or single digits. Not sure if he will succeed without cornering those who already have buy order at double or single digits.
