It would be very interesting to see how the BitBars are traded if/when they hit an automated exchange.
And especially what the initial offer will be...
Actually that would make a good bet..
What will the initial Bid/Ask be??
I think it will open at 2 BTC+ initially. Then again maybe even higher, FTC and CHN opened at way higher rates than I expected. Initially somewhere between 1-2BTB, probably not for long though. I wonder how many crypto's are holding BitBars and not communicating for fear of ridicule. I can understand the hesitation in voicing an opinion; there are some strong characters on Bitcointalk Probably the altcoin equivalent of saying you own a scooter while with your motorcycle club at this point. I don't care though, I got a nice big shiny pink one with white racing stripes. :p It will be neat if this turns into something...if not...I lost a few days of mining...big whoop.

That's why I'm a fan of BitBar... it does bring something new to the table through its combination of ideas. On the surface it doesn't win points in terms of innovation, no (Unless you count the 'bar' aspect - which I think was a smart play from a psychological perspective). It's better than a relabeled client with only the amount of coins changed. I think it potentially has some staying power.
+1 It's the only coin I'm currently mining. Though, I have to admit a block reward of .13 just seems weird when all the others are much higher. Consider that there are only 2700-something in existence, however, and the block reward makes more sense. I totally understand there is a low amount of coins in existence. It's just feels weird. I guess I've been 'conditioned' to get more of a reward per block. If it makes it to an exchange it will be interesting to see people paying .01 per BTC (an example not stating the future price of BTB). Yes, totally makes sense. That was one of the reasons CTC and FTC did so well. They 1) got coins in the hands of more people (who had an interest and a reason in pumping them up) and 2) had a much larger float. Seeing 1242 CNC in your wallet is much more psychologically satisfying than seeing 2.22 bars, although at current market values they're the same amount of bitcoin.

I am inclined to agree with you here, but ultimately it doesn't matter since FTC had an incredibly successful launch and BTB's was a trainwreck. That's not to say that the coin may just take a longer while to mature. FTC produced a LOT of coins its first few days... many more people had a reason to support it right out of the gate. Bitbar, not so much. However, the network hash rate has been growing steadily and it is making progress on getting on an exchange. It could be one of those "slow and steady" kinds of coins. I've seen the price of it drop a bit these last few days, but there have been more on the forums that have come out in support of it lately, with the folks against it more in the background. An interesting trend.

Well my main purpose is to show that those alt coins out there that whatever characteristics they have, it is so easily copied. (is it?)
aka you want a faster transaction coin --- just allow a higher rate of blocks
you want a rarer coin --- reduce the block reward
you want demurrage --- create it with demurrage
Whatever digital characteristic you want, one can just copy them easily.
Ultimately what will set these coins apart is not their digital characteristics, i believe it is the real world application.
Real world application of a currency depends largely on its use and acceptance in the real world as a medium of exchange. Most all the altcoins (except for Litecoin) so far have been more about higher profit portals to BTC for the initial lucky few, as they are not accepted anywhere for goods and services. I don't see how creating 1 new altcoin a day would solve that.

Hey everyone,
Just wondering, how much work does it take to create a new cryptocurrency?
If anyone is interested we could release a new coin everyday, naming the coin after the day itself.
INSANE PROFIT for everyone involved. We can give a different forum member rights to premine the hell out of it for each coin. Coinchoose.com will be 5 pages long.

Is there a pool where I can mine?
You have to read every post in this topic to get private access to the pool But only users with +10 gifs in this thread get access to the source and the pool. *Users with a gf get access sooo, no one in this thread.... what about me? im a chick! Have you a GF? nope, im straight xD So no access for you thats sexist! xD Sexist? He clearly said: Users with a gf get access. Do you have a GF? No. I have 2. What do I get?

How do I read that exactly? I notice for the most recent block in the list, it's showing 143639548 ...so 143MH/s ... that differs from the figure shown on the other stats page, so I assume I'm reading it incorrectly. I think he needs to alter algorithm for ppc based coin. The binarycoins pool alone has 100 MH/s. My estimate of hash rate is more in line with the difficulty I believe. Yes, a large difference between the two numbers. I would be curious to find out what it is. There is the pool you mentioned with 100MH... and I am solomining around 20MH right now, so I would assume the real number would be a good deal higher than 143MH. Definitely matters as the network hash rate (and especially the movement in it, up or down) is obviously a good indicator of the viability of a new coin.
