1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Grin coin - US markets? on: March 19, 2020, 10:34:40 PM
Well during the new craze of the world it looks like GRIN is doing okay. Iv'e been out of the market and miners for a long while. I see America has been removed from most of the reasonable exchanges... which is just super nice...  Roll Eyes

In my new world of mostly challenges... is there a US compatible market that trades GRIN? Can't seem to find one. Really wish Kraken would take that on....

ALRIGHT

So i'm back to original understanding that there is not a single exchange that will even trade BTC for GRIN right now for an american... fiat aside. Unless someone has recent experience i could implore... this was a fun exercise in futility. Miners off.

Bittrex seems to be the only major exchange allowing US traders to use their GRIN pairs, though if you haven't used the exchange before and you're interested I suggest looking at this page to see if you're eligible to sign up based on what state you live in. As the member above said, another easy way to move your assets into fiat or BTC is to trade on another exchange that doesn't require KYC and then transfer your funds to more US-compatible exchange that accepts the coin and also allows for fiat withdrawals.

EDIT--

KuCoin doesn't explicitly state that they don't allow US residents to trade on their platform (though they don't do KYC with US residents, thus you don't have access to the full platform), but like with most other similar platforms over the years, that can change at any time. Without submitting KYC, you can withdraw 2 BTC daily like with Binance.

Kucoin also not supporting 2BTC withdrawl limit unless verified. See below

Again can anyone confirm Bittrex actually does this? I just made an account today and GRIN was not able to be traded. I am not in one of the affected states. By my point of view bittrex does not allow americans to trade GRIN at all.

Do you ask for trading GRIN with fiat USD? If so, It's quite difficult for you to find a fiat market for alt coins always. Fiat - Crypto exchanges always support the buying and selling options for popular currencies like BTC and ETH for majority of the time. It would be a quite difficult hunt for you to find a way to sell or buy altcoins from a exchange using USD. Coinbase is one among the popular exchanges where you can buy and sell bitcoin with USD or other similar currencies but they support only a handful of popular altcoins. So does Kraken and Gemini exchanges as well.

Rather you can buy/sell GRIN using bitcoin in some centralized exchanges like Hotbit or Kucoin and then at a later point of time sell off your bitcoin through Coinbase, Kraken or Gemini.

If your query is to buy GRIN in a USA based crypto exchange you should trade GRIN in Bittrex exchange. The exchange has it's HQ in Seattle and is one among the most popular USA based exchanges which support GRIN.

Thanks for the input. You're saying i can trade GRIN for BTC on Hotbit or Kucoin as an american?

Bittrex is a company i just requested a full account closure from due to them not actually supporting GRIN. The "International Bittrex" that was just shut down (last year) for Americans is where they traded GRIN. As far as i know there is no way to trade GRIN from the American Bittrex but please tell me if i'm wrong.

More or less i cant unless i cant to go through 6 fee gates just to get to fiat, likely crushing any profit i made anyways. Sick.

Youre at school and could afford this kind of rig? Riiiight  Roll Eyes

Not everyone that goes to school is 21. I'm 34. I'm getting my Master's at the university I work at plus my GI Bill so I'm actually getting paid to go instead of paying. Plus,  I'm an adult with a full time job and a credit card.

It's $7k OBO because you wouldn't believe the low ball offers people give. If you think it's too high, make an offer. Sure you can build your own, if you want to spend the time building and tweaking to get the best hash rate. Took me about a month to get it just right but maybe you have more time than I do. Also, you couldn't even get the cards for $3k-$4k, let alone all the other hardware.

I mean.. you can get the cards for about $3K so lets leave that alone. Even ebay prices you can snag 580's for around $300 buy it now. But i think the real point is, people here aren't interested in ebay prices. We go off ROI. AND since ROI is shit right now, you flat out wont have a lot of people interested unless the prices start dropping. Video-card prices have been quite inflated for the last 6 months, and that is slowly going away.. so naturally people holding a lot of these cards (you), are going to kind of get screwed in the end. Should have sold this two months ago.

8  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Antminer Sales Website Scam Alert on: September 18, 2017, 07:46:07 PM
Yesterday (9/17/2017) - I found a site that looked legitimate to buy an Antminer D3 from.

WWW.BOSTON-ELECTRONICS.US They had a Google AdSense ad that popped up when I searched, "Antminer D3 in stock".

I tried to order a dash mining machine (Antminer D3) from the site.  The price was good ($1849) and nobody else has them in stock - not even the manufacturer.
The ZenDesk chat operator said that they have them in stock.  I asked how do you - and not the manufacturer?  She said, "We wait until the manufacturer sells out - then sell them at a higher price".  IT seemed to good to be true.  It was....  I thought maybe Bitmain was running this site - because it was exactly like their format, text and pics.
I put in my credit card info (because I knew I'd have more protection than if I used BTC) & it said "Card declined due to security reasons".  But the page looked more like a half-baked HTML scribble page - not an official declined transaction page.  Also, NO text or call from my bank - which they ALWAYS do if there's an alert.
Next, the web store asked for payment in Bitcoin (non-traceable).  I didn't do that!  Today, a day later, when I asked the ZenDesk Chat lady: Why their site was only 2 weeks old; their address is a parking garage  in Boston (33 Arch St, Boston, MA 02101, USA) ; and the phone number listed (+1 (627)396-4944) is a Verizon cell phone that is no longer in service - their ZenDesk chat customer service operator hung up on me.
Shortly after my interaction on their chat support - they posted that they've stopped taking credit cards and only accept BTC.  In addition, the Antminer D3 went up from $1849 (their sales price) to $2649 today!!  So, they know their scam is ending soon.

Their page footer says, "Boston Hardware Inc." - which is actually a tiny Mom & Pop hardware store in Boston.  I called them and let them know.  They were wondering why people were calling them looking for "computer stuff".  This scam has been using Google AdWords for about a week when you type in "Antminer D3 in stock".

Here is a list of the domain names they are using.  Also, their Bitmain product descriptions are either mirrored or cut and pasted onto their website.  They've messed with the domain registry to make it look like they are owned by Bitmain - with the full on Bitmain Chinese address - but with a fake email address.

bostonhardware.us
bostonltcminer.us
bostonbtcminers.us
bostonelectronic.us
boston-electronics.us

In the "About Us" page, they say they are the  "Brooklyn Store" - but when you google that name with antminer - all those domains are shut down...

Having a real good time trolling them right now. He's right. Call them a scammer, instant hang-up. Don't do business with these people.

Lol $7k?! So my setup is worth like $20,000?!

LOL what not good enough? It will only take 16 months to ROI if diff DOESN'T budge an INCH. lmao these people.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: R.I.P Ethereum - The Pre-Mined ScamCoin is dead on: August 09, 2017, 03:42:59 PM
Is Ethereum done?

Nah. The wallet is a bitch to use but other than that, most of us are still laughing at portalufonet's expense.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum Wallet.... what have they done on: August 08, 2017, 07:18:02 PM
Unlike bitcoin, Ethereum has hash of the current database state (state_root, the root of the state trie) in the block header.
This makes the node of Ethereum huge compared to the node of bitcoin.

Still dude. It's 100GB in its current state. How big do you imagine it would need to be when its as old as say bitcoin today? You're talking in the TB size. This is not viable at all.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum Wallet.... what have they done on: August 08, 2017, 03:09:58 PM
Ethereum's blockchain for some reason already is bigger than Bitcoin's one. I don't know why and it probably will be a problem in the future.

Yeah it was seriously pushing 100GB last i checked. I see people techsplaining to just use a solid state drive. Yeah. Totally. Let me waste 200$ on a 500GB solidstate just for an ethereum node. Then i can junk it next year when it passes that size and re-download it for the next 6 months after that. Sick. Its a huge problem for me. If you can't easily access a hard wallet with or without the blockchain its a useless technology.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Ethereum Wallet.... what have they done on: August 08, 2017, 01:15:17 PM
Does anyone have a legit answer as to why an Ethereum node takes WEEKS to download and update? It's at that completely unreasonable state where i seriously have no interest in this currency when a node takes this long to sync. The second i have any issues with my hard wallet i get to go into crisis mode initiating the month-long journey to gain access to my own wallet again.

On a side note Zcash only took about an hour to sync from nothing, only takes up about a gig, compared to the 100GB behemoth that is the ethereum chain. Christ you basically need a dedicated machine with a solid state to even run an eth node these days.

Enough ranting, is this molasses process the norm for everyone else too? Iv'e encountered this on at least 3 machines.

I don't think they make those Asrock mobos anymore, but what board do you guys recommend for a 5-6 videocard setup?
GIGABYTE X79 Ultra Durable motherboard. Can be recommended. But Try searching for another source of information.

I was thinking that or a newer MSI z170 setup with a basic i3. Everyone and their brother is going to say search for more information but i'm more interested in peoples first hand experiences in a board they would actually recommend. That's how we did each other years ago before this new crowd of people showed up.

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1060 3gb, soon obsolete for Ether? on: June 12, 2017, 02:59:03 PM
I have been lurking here for a while, but decided to jump in the discussion.
I have been mining ETH on my gaming rig for a few months now. It's a 1080Ti pulling about 36-37mh/s when overclocked.

I'm always late to the party, but I've been waiting on those damn AMD cards forever and retailers in my country keep pushing release dates and I got tired of waiting so I've decided to pull the trigger and bought 10x1060 3gb. Asus Phoenix 1060 3gb which went for dirty cheap, €200 each (cheap here in Sweden).
And these 1060 are not very powerhungry. I also read it's easer to manage them compared to AMD cards. Just OC  the memory and you're good to go, no need to mod BIOS.

Now I wonder if I shoot myself in the foot by ordering 3gb cards instead of 6gb. But I did read that we will hit 3gb limit mid 2018, and by that time I won't need these cards anyway.
Some people report that 3gb cards run lower hash rate because they are near the limit. How true is that? I expect these cards to run about 20-23mh/s each, but if they end up at 15mh/s each, then screw it Smiley

20+ is easy. you can mine other coin like zcash

Doing the same thing as you my friend. I average 20Mh/s a card.

After all, once these 3gb cards can no longer mine eth id rather switch to another coin over selling them. Unfortunately 80Mh/s of my setup are 3gb cards.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum DAG/VRAM question on: June 10, 2017, 01:21:24 PM
Mr Kuban,

Have you bought your account?

Were you not aware that Phil Ma is spoon feeding all things Nvidia in his thread(s)?

No iv'e not purchased my account lmao. Like i said ive been out of eth for over a year and out of btc for at least 2-3 years. Only thing i played with before that was litecoin. But yeah, ive been pretty far removed as of late. Ill look for his threads tho.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum DAG/VRAM question on: June 10, 2017, 02:41:46 AM
You don't even need to flash your bios. He should get at least 250-260 h/s with the stock bios. I am thinking he is using an older version of ZEC miner.

This is possible. If i can pull anywhere near 300 ill switch it over right now. Any idea how 1060's can do?
