221  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] NiceHash.com - innovative professional cryptocurrency cloud mining service on: July 31, 2014, 11:18:05 PM
Is there a new ASIC miner for X11 coin or something new going on??? Very odd that the hash rate went high so fast in the last couple of days

No.

Did you see how long it took from the first mutterings of an scrypt ASIC to seeing the first ones? That was for a single ASIC for a single algo.

X11 uses 11 algos.  You'd need to design 11 ASICs, and then go through all the rest of the process of PCB design and all that ...

I honestly doubt we will ever see an X11/13/15 ASIC miner.  The cost would GREATLY outweigh what you could earn with it I'm sure ...

they said the same thing about scrypt asic's but look at us now hehe

nobody but the asic companies knows the true price it costs to pump these units out...and if their making tons of money off ltc asic's they just might do it to try Tongue

X11/13/15 coins are not profitable enough to for hardware vendors to make a asic chip that will mine them. Maybe in a few years...

Everybody is just swinging back an forth between script asics and sha256 asics...

The option to edit my B5 order just disappeared, so I'm guessing I'll be getting an update soon!

Same here on my two orders....I went with DHL shipping so we will see if they do me right. They always have.
223  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 29, 2014, 02:23:12 AM
Why are you folks in the USA picking UPS over DHL? DHL is way better at handling customs. I ordered a bunch of Zeusminer stuff (half of it was free because of their crazy coupons but you still had to pay the shipping) and it always came through DHL like in less than 48 hours from China to my crib. DHL also lets you pre-sign if you are not around.

I would always pick DHL if possible when shipping from China if you are in the USA.

so theres nothing special about this coin, plz clarify if I'm wrong... just sick of scams and useless new coins.. any thoughts?

Did you see the website? Shadow bank system..  Encrypted messaging...

http://www.shadowcoin.co/#about

"Shadowcoin was developed to facilitate credit transactions within the shadow banking system (hedge funds, money markets, derivatives, other unregulated instruments). Shadowcoin will be introduced into the shadow banking system to provide a frictionless unit of value providing much needed liquidity outside of the depository banking system."

New wallet is syncing for me right out of the box. Good work devs. Network hash is holding above 30 gh/s. Impressive!

I am in mining this coin, I got about 70 mh/s on it...

Looks like it is pulling people off of litecoin....which is a good thing to keep litecoin diff from going up a lot...

Price of SDC is looking good...it's over a penny right now...

Ok, I just ordered 2 more S3's. I am up to 4 units now with 2 separate orders in Batch 5...
228  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 27, 2014, 11:24:06 PM
Has anyone received their refund yet? I mean we had an hour to pay, They've had weeks.. An ETA would be nice @Bitmain

Refunds Huh what on earth for. Unless I missed something was Bitmain refunding for prices or something on offer for units ? or people just asking for refund of unit?

Yes, you definitely missed something. Since the miners were performing below the initially advertised hashrates, buyers were given the option for a 7.7% refund or 10% coupons. Coupons are issued but the refunds aren't yet.

Ah luckly I have not bought any yet was thinking to buy but with the sha diff on coins going at stupid  increases am looking more on the scrypt side of things shortly or maybe wait it out for a unit to deliver power to all algos like x11 x13 x15 and so forth would be interesting. But even with scrypt miners they are out but now face same sort of problems buying in and having massive spikes in diff and making units imposable to brake even. Going to wait it out and see how things progress in the coming months.

You can do good with script asics if you know which pools to mine on. I have tried just about everything on the script pools and found a few good spots to rest them on.

Also in sha 256, I know a few good spots to rest on but its much easier to find mining nests on sha 256 than scrypt.

Litecoin diffs have been going kinda sideways the last few diffs, so do some research and don't believe everything you hear. Even the bitcoin diff changes are manageable. You just ain't gonna make a lot of money buying just one S3. You need at least 4, and the ability to add more.

But holding onto your BTC and LTC and waiting is not a bad option.

20 nm scrypt asics and 20 nm sha256 asics are just around the corner....

How big is this batch 5?

People throwing random speculation numbers of ~2200 a batch.

Thanks bro!

Cool

I'm  just looking at this thread and bitmain site. And what i can see, quality went down the drain.i mean, quality in regards of delivery on time, process of any refunds, simple information to community.

Now it seems bitmain asking for btc in advance which is basically preorder.
With s1 there was no issues related to delivery of miners. Now im reading people waiting to get their s3 mining week or more!
I was hesitating to order B1,B2,B3 and it seems i didnt lost a lot. as all batches was delayed and now batch 4 and 5 is simple proeorder with no warranty that will be delivered in time frame given.

I dont know whats the issue is but even labeling boxes as miner means issues for end user.
I am fan of bitmain but at this stage whats the point of ordering when their are not in stock?

Price is nice but again waiting time for B5 will kill any profit if any. We looking at least 14 days to receive any miner. What if customs will delay the process? Whats safe quantity to order? I was thinking to order 10. Any ideas how this will look for customs?

no miner is for sale at a better price and faster delivery.

have they slipped from the s-1 yeah  just a bit.  down the drain no.

down the drain would be what knc did from the early jupiter last nov to this years neptune.

Based on all that i can see and read. these s-3's are better then the s-2's  but not quite as good as the s-1's.

By that I mean all aspects of the miner.   I order 4 so far I have 2 hashing 2 on the way.  when they come I will order 2 more.

after those 2 come I will assess my next move.  right now the mining game is very tough.

Maybe i was to harhs to say down the drain. But i compering s1 to s3 situation. And thought maybe they will do same what they done with s1.
I bought abut 20+ s1 with sushi and bitmain and never had any issues.

I still think mining is something which will make few BTC before is not profitable anymore but for small people like me is getting more difficult and will not be easier.
10 units will make roughly 3 BTC a month.

yeah I am in your boat.  always less then 5-8k worth of gear.  not tiny maybe a little bigger then small.

but these days  to be middle sized means 20th.  I can't provide 20th in terms of the power needed.

that would be 42-44 s-3s  that comes to about 15 k-watts.  I can do 4k to 6k in the winter.  I can do 2k in the summer.

right now I am running
14 gridseed blades in my home around 1250 watts.
2 s-3's in my friends office.
1 dragon miner in china
32mh in the zencloud
a few icefury usb sticks in bitsolo.net-----------hey you never know

2 more s-3's in batch 4 when these com to my home i will be close to 1950 watts and that is about all I can do in house.

Wait what kind of house you got? I got 3 ZeusMiner Hurricane X3 and 14 ZeusMiner Blizzards and 6 gridseed mini's -75setup in two separate rooms. Each room has its own circuit.  Total 70-75 Mh/s...about 2200 watts. As long as you stay below 1600 watts per circuit you will be right...But does anybody know the max power that can come out of a house in the USA?

I want to throw in 4 Antminer S3's into the mix...

My electric bill is about $100 extra a month with all the stuff.

$100 extra for 2200watts? You are a lucky guy man.

The max power that can come out of a house in the USA will rely on you checking your breaker box to see what type of amps are in what rooms  Grin it will show you what the circuit is running

example is Living Room with a 20A breaker on a 115/120 circuit would be 20A x 115v = 2300 max watts in ALL living room outlets.

The problem with houses is if the circuits are split individually or spread around the house. example, your living room may have split outlets with the hallway and even a bathroom

Thanks bro, I think I was using way more power with all the gpu's I had running last year....I think I was running about 1500 watts in one room with no issues last year....

I am done with Scrypt Asics, unless they come out with some good cheap 28-20 nm stuff one day...will ride the sha 256 asics train for a bit. I think bitmain is the best to do this with...It's still cheaper to buy a S3 than to buy cloud hash...

Plus bitcoin and litecoin diffs have been going kinda sideways lately, so ROI is very possible...

It depends on the house.  Older homes will have less power, 100 amps or less.  Newer homes can have a lot more.  I'd be very careful if you live in an older home.  The wiring using back in the good old days (especially in the 60s and 70s when there was a copper shortage) may be a little sketchy.   BTW, it's not uncommon in the US where multiple bedrooms share a single circuit, so don't assume each room has a dedicated circuit.

Your right, my house is new..I checked the circuit box and each room upstairs has its own dedicated circuit. There is like 4 bedrooms, a media room, computer room and a game room. Crazy I know. Perfect Mining house! Master bedroom is downstairs, quiet away from it all. After I turned off all my GPU mining crap, I don't have a heat problem anymore. Don't need fans or anything now... I am thinking of getting some Solar panels installed to offset the mining power cost....just waiting for the right price...

When ordering stuff from China, always try to use DHL is possible. DHL seems to always get their stuff through customs with no issues...unlike UPS..

This may be true for where your shipment enters the US.  While I haven't had any major issues with DHL recently, I've had a few shipments held up due to minor paperwork issues.  FedEX, on the other hand, is almost always a problem.  I get the package, but it comes with a extra invoice for handling customs inspections, which doesn't happen with UPS or DHL.

Anyway, it all depends.

Agreed!

Just move the pool out of New York...move it to Texas or Washington or Oregon. NY is just one state, they cant set the laws for crypto for the whole world. Only the people in NY will be screwed.
236  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 26, 2014, 04:11:53 AM
Have bought from Bitmain before and never seen a UPS message like this.
Am in the US, BTW.
The packages have left Anchorage probably headed for Louisville.

"07/25/2014   9:16 P.M.   A valid tax ID or deferment number is missing and is required for clearance. We are working to obtain this information. / The package is at the clearing agency awaiting final release."

WTF Over?

Anybody got a clue whose tax ID they want.
And what the heck is a "deferment number"?

Thanks in advance,
