81  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 01, 2013, 01:42:48 AM

So what day 1/2/3 orders are shipping soon, and did they bump the hash rate up or something?  Was it just Jupiter orders that got free upgrades or Saturn as well?

Free upgrades? You mean higher hashrate than projected? Obviously the Mercury has one chip, Saturn two chips and Jupiter 4 chips so they all are higher. Nothing has shipped yet as far as we know.
I guess?  I didn't step foot in this thread since months ago, since i knew literally nothing good would come of it, but now that they're shipping I thought i'd check in, and apparently people are saying the units have been bumped up in hashing power compared to what was listed when orders were placed months ago?

Try that at the track and see how well it works. Smiley

You know what's scary? People who pre-ordered kncminer gear seem to have basically won the lottery. There was no particular reason to think kncminer was more likely to succeed than many of the others who have attempted to make ASIC miners, and many fail. It looks like kncminer will deliver on time, or very very close to that, and well over specifications. And yet, it's unlikely that many of those who pre-ordered will ever mine as many Bitcoins as they paid for their miners, after the cost of electricity is deducted.

It's simple economics. If mining is particularly profitable, then more people will mine. This will continue until mining is not particularly profitable.
the only way to win is to bet on all horses

that being said, holy fuck, what the fucking shit, 620 fucking pages of shitposting?  thank god i avoided this shitfest of a thread

84  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy#1] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! Using JohnK as escrow! FINISHED! on: September 24, 2013, 04:23:14 AM
I've gone through and added up all the swaps, and calculated a refund amount based on the swaps, located in Column N of the "Original Data" sheet.  This refund amount was calculated leaving John K's fee intact.  Any other payment for facilitating (Me, Noitev, redphlegm) has NOT been included in that total.  RagingAzn628's fee is NOT included in that total.

Please review and let me know if you find any mistakes.

Keep in mind that I did not do any calculations with regards to secondary purchases.  That is, if you sold your chips, that sale is private;  acquiring chips through bartering after the group buy is done should be viewed as a private transaction.  For instance, if you traded someone your car for their stake on chips, the group buy should only refund you what the chips cost to the original buyer and not the value of your car.

Which spreadsheet are you referring to now?  Just to be clear on everything.

Congrats everyone, it seems this mess is almost over.

I am so happy to see that I will get most of my BTC back from this group buy!

It is only a matter of time before JohnK gets everything sorted out.

Everyone please fill out the form to expedite the refund process:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Db9Xx8NYvjnq-Pm7MmuVgWauTP1qSaFRyemI_sa5DkA/viewform

So again, my name is not reflected in the original spreadsheet, i bought the chips from two people in that (dserrano5 and atsecure) - how should i go about this?

Should i fill this out twice and match it to both of them?  that's the only way i can see it making sense

You can fill out the form as yourself and have them fill it out. The form is for those who have sold as well as those who have bought.

ok i guess, I'll send them a PM to request they fill it out as well, that would be the smoothest way

I filled out a single one for me and provided all the links and proof on my end

btw not that it really matters, but i'm pretty sure BTC addresses are actually NOT the public key but a hash(hash(public key)) or something.

But yeah, i put 'ecliptic' in the field about "name in original spreadsheet" even though it's not there.  It should have been but the spreadsheet was never updated due to ragingazn's situation

I just want to make sure it's not a dumbfire automatica computer match between the original spreadsheet and this form, because if so it will falsely say i don't have any chips in this group buy.

The past week has been a busy one with work so I haven't had a lot of time to dig through the results of the form I provided earlier and reconcile that against Ben's shared spreadsheet but I do still hope to get it done tonight / tomorrow. I have shared the results of that spreadsheet with Ben. I will share it with John as well in the hopes that we can alleviate any more pain from this process.

If you haven't filled out the form yet, please do so.
Which form is this?

I too was skeptical, until I read the Anandtech interview (those guys don't post information hastily) and saw the youtube video confirming the involvement of Ravi and others.
This one?

572 of those chips are mine

See below, copied verbatim from an old PM, minus ragingazn's name, John K can confirm.

Not that it matters, those posts, TXID, confirm i bought 572 chips in total, 320 from dserrano5 and 252 from atcsecure

Hi John

I was just looking over the spreadsheet for the group batch #1 buy ( https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AiYcEqkgyjc_dGU0VzhHRGpOOUxudWkxdWpDN3RmbFE#gid=0 ) and i saw that the two people i bought chips from in this batch (dserrano5 and atcsecure) were marked in red and I wasn't listed, so i wanted to make sure that gets cleared up

I've been in contact with <name removed> (ragingazn628) about these chips and the design process/etc for months so he is well aware that I bought out the 320+252=572 chips from dserrano5 and atcsecure.

See below for a snippet from an email conversation with him, has the TXID and posts that confirm this

I have taken the liberty of setting up a Google form to collect all this information to hopefully facilitate a seamless refund (and take as much workload off John as possible).

I am using this as the frontend for a spreadsheet to track refunds and transfers which will ultimately be used to generate a "sendmany" transaction that John should be able to execute in one command with bitcoind. We will of course check, double, and triple check the transaction when it comes to that point (or leave it to him if he chooses to go a different route) but I'm just trying to put some organization to this chaos in the interest of just putting this all behind us. (I should note that we aren't even sure we'll get a refund so all this may be for naught; but it's better than sitting on our hands).

I apologize to those who have already submitted this information in the thread but as you can imagine, it is pretty impossible to accurately track this stuff on more than 80 pages of forum posts (as well as use this information in a manner to streamline refunds). So please use this link for your refund / transfer information.

I realize that anonymity is of concern, so all fields are optional. It will of course degrade the usefulness of the spreadsheet if you omit fields, but it is ultimately up to you.

In the interest of full disclosure, I should mention that I will of course be sharing the information collected with John K at a minumum. Additionally, BigBenInLondon and / or ryepdx may be helping with the spreadsheet construction (though I think I have it mostly under control). There are some oddities with the amounts (and usernames) that will need to be hashed out; and I may need to enlist the help of one or both of them since I do have a life outside this forum.

Here is the form for refund / chip transfer tracking:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Db9Xx8NYvjnq-Pm7MmuVgWauTP1qSaFRyemI_sa5DkA/viewform

I was never added to the list, despite asking multiple times, months ago, to be added.  What do you want me to do for this?  See next post for chips - i have the 572 from atcsecure and dserrano5

Actually nm, in my panic it looks like it was already taken care of.. just paranoid i was going to miss the refund because the spreadsheet was wrong and leader was AWOL.  whew.  i'll leave my other post for posterity/proof sake

So can we vote for refund for our 110nm chips, and instead of eating the assembly cost, save the assembly for 55nm chips?

Has there been an official announcement from steamboat regarding the 55nm chip plans of Yifu?

Refund for chips w/o refund for PCB assembly is not a wise plan.  PCB assemblies must be used or partially refunded for chip refund to make financial sense.
92  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy#1] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! Using JohnK as escrow! FINISHED! on: September 09, 2013, 11:04:15 PM
Do we need to start a new list of bitcoin addresses for refunds?
YES

I just PM'd JohnK about this but None of the spreadsheets take into account all the transfers of chips!

If you refund by what's listed, a number of people will get free BTC, and several (myself included) won't get our refund

Everyone should collect their posts and evidence, TXIDs, etc for chip transfers..
93  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy#1] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! Using JohnK as escrow! FINISHED! on: September 07, 2013, 11:20:41 PM
I messaged and posted to please not ship the batch (if it hasn't already...) as we've voted for the refund but can't actually do anything as both our group leader and escrow are currently not available Sad

Based on the order days for Zefir.. looks like chips in the range of april 24th - 30th for him just changed to "prepare for shipping", good chance our batch did too

so if you know any way to get ahold of someone, anyone, to actually get a refund, please do.  yifu phone or email?
94  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: September 07, 2013, 11:15:19 PM
Alright guys, got some good news, here's the two big ones.

1. chips from wednesday arrived just fine, they are being split/packaged for shipment.
2. we are going to open refund for all orders, not just june 1st/15th or what not.

expect more detailed update via newsletter later tonight.
Hi Yifu

Please Do Not Ship Order #10129 - It was made by JohnK as Escrow for ragingazn628's group buy.  The group has now voted in majority for a refund, but John K is currently not around (in the process of moving or otherwise ), (nor is ragingazn628, although he would not be in front of refund as JohnK made the order as escrow) the refund hasn't been formally submitted, as you can see in the thread

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=177994.1640

Thank you

John K has skype as well I think?  If anyone knows his handle.. try to get ahold of him ASAP.

Please be careful when issuing the refunds as some of the chips have been sold/transfered to other people.

Yes please.. I have over 500 chips i bought from people

We're over 51%?

Let's get this done before yifu ships the chips..
98  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: September 02, 2013, 07:22:40 PM
Burnin is an exemplary person whose poured a massive amount of time, effort, sweat and blood into this and it's sad that it came to this due entirely to Avalon's actions (or inaction)

I am hoping that ragingazn's group buy gets the chips refunded - if so, i have a 5XX order for 28 complete bit burner modules - if these are sellable/transferrable and someone wants to buy them, i'm open to all offers, otherwise, whatever refund is possible is good
