61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FutureBit Moonlander 2: The Most Powerful and Efficient USB Stick Miner! on: January 24, 2018, 11:15:06 AM
Only distributors I know of are HolyBitCoin and ASICPuppy. I'm watching both for Batch 2 stock (if any) and Batch 3 pre-order.

This is the sales thread - there is a list of distributors for each region, in post 1.

I think you have to put the COM port for each Moonlander into the command line - sure it’s been discussed before
63  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] The First Litecoin PPS Pool (litecoinpool.org) on: January 21, 2018, 12:00:32 PM
Since September 11, 2014, the pool supports merged mining of Dogecoin and other cryptocurrencies, resulting in higher payouts than with a regular Litecoin pool.
We are currently merged-mining Argentum, Canada eCoin, Dogecoin, Huntercoin, Myriad, Pesetacoin, Viacoin.

Any other coins you're merge mining now?

That list is up to date. (If you check the original post, you'll see it was updated just a couple weeks ago.)

I don't think other forum members can see when the post was edited (I can't)

try to double the worker difficulty pool side..
what i found is if its too low, the usb gets saturated somehow and it cant keep up..

im not sure how to calculate scrypt worker diff, but its multiplied.. so 62m would be like d=4096 or something. that might actually be too high..
anyways yes the red lights flash on diff 1, which is internal.. only the yellow lights flash when a worker diff share is found. this is what's transmitted to the pool.

I went all the way up to 500m (normally the starting value with vardiff), d=32875 or so, but it did not help, still getting the same problem.
I also tried lower and lower frequencies (not changing the core/mem voltages), at 600Mhz no problem, at 832Mhz no problem, at 856 problem but took some time, at 876, 900Mhz: problem.
I looked at the source code and I also enabled debugging, but the latter did not help me much. Unless jstefanop pitches in I need to look more closely at the source code. But as long as I am running with 10.5 MLD I won't be messing around too much.

This is a power related problem, sounds like your having cores drop in certain sticks due to too high frequency/power draw. Anything past 796 MHZ on stock core voltage your going to have issues, which is what your seeing. You need to turn up core voltage if you want to run past 800 mhz.

So its core voltage on the Moonlander and not how much power/amps per USB port?

USB port on front of PC. Usb meter showed 1.93A at 4.55v, ran fine 4.52MH/s
66  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Official FutureBit Moonlander 2 Driver and Support Thread on: December 24, 2017, 11:22:45 AM
I bought one of these from ASICPuppy.

What a great stick miner, thank you jstefanop.  Smiley

I run this with my Windows PC in a USB 3 port.
The pre-compiled bfgminer was really easy peacy lemon squeezy.

I personally found a sweet spot for settings by tuning the Core Voltage to 0.655V and running it at 576 MHz frequency.
600 MHz was really unstable with lots of rejects and some hw error.

The hash rate is about 3.2 Mh/s.
And the power consumption is not too much for the USB 3 port.

I'm trying to get lucky, I have pointed it to a LTC solo pool.  Cheesy

I was running 1x Moonlander from USB 3 at 796 MHz to get 4.5 MH/s, dont know if your aiming for max hash?
67  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: FutureBit Moonlander 2 USB Hubs Thread on: December 24, 2017, 11:02:59 AM
I have got my modified (Frankenstein!) hub working with 3x Moonlanders (pics to follow)

Also been looking at Sipolar hubs to have a neater package with more Moonlanders. Is there any need/advantage for mining to have usb 3.0 instead of 2.0?

i ordered an overall of 4 miners - 3 from Bitshopper.de and 1 from Eyeboot.com

Could any of you give me an idea how i could run 2 miners in 1 process and 2 miners in single mode on same raspberry?

like this:

bfgbimer_double.sh    (miner 1 +2)
bfgminer_single1.sh   (miner 3)
bfgminer_single2.sh   (miner 4)

cause i dont want all to mine on same pool with same username.

(miners not arrived yet - but most probably first 3 will arrive over the weekend).

Thanks Smiley

Is this doable in Windows? I have 3x Moonlanders and would like to run them separately, it’s easier to rent out in smaller blocks.
69  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Official FutureBit Moonlander 2 Driver and Support Thread on: December 22, 2017, 05:43:00 PM
Just some rough calculations - 4.5v X 2A = 9W

9W/4.5MH/s = 2W per MH - am I right? How should I tune this better?
70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Official FutureBit Moonlander 2 Driver and Support Thread on: December 22, 2017, 05:14:42 PM
I currently have 1x pi running at 796 from USB 3 port - 1.93A at 4.55V - 4.52MH/s.

Should I be aiming for 5V on my USB meter?

Really!? Interesting - that a Pi3 ? Any special settings?

No - I was thinking current draw (amps) maybe using something like this:
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F162705351062

EDIT - that should say Moonlander, not pi

That is a similar meter to what I am using.

jstefanop - so I should turn pot up until it reads 5V, ideally???

Any chance someone can write up a step-by-step guide for getting these working on a Raspberry Pi 3B? I'm a Linux novice and most of what I see assumes a certain level of know how. I was hoping to set it up wirelessly on Minera, but at this point I'm so confused I'll take what I can get... Thanks in advance!

so you need the a foolproof copy n paste "just get it to work" description?

i'll write a short version for you that is most probably not perfect - but will most probably work.

Login to your raspberry pi with putty. (if this already is a problem - let me know). - you can as well login locally if you got keyboard and screen attached!

install neccesary library files (thanks to jstefanop for providing this info)
Code:
sudo apt install libjansson-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev

Code:
mkdir miner
this will create a directory in your home directory for bfgminer.
Code:
cd miner
now you are in the new folder with the name "miner"

Code:
wget https://github.com/jstefanop/bfgminer/releases/download/bfgminer-5.4.2-futurebit2/bfgminer_5.4.2-futurebit2_linux_armv6.tar.gz
this will download the precompiled (ready to run) bfgminer from jstefanop.

now lets unpack this tar.gz file - this is a zipped tarball (something like a .zip file in windows - atleast similar)

Code:
tar xzfv bfgminer_5.4.2-futurebit2_linux_armv6.tar.gz
now theres running lots of text of the files being unpacked into a folder.

lets go into the new unpacked folder!
Code:
cd bfgminer_5.4.2-futurebit2_linux_armv6

here is the complete bfgminer including a short startup script from jstefanop.

now you can either edit the existing start script by using editor of your choice - i am using nano.
Code:
nano start_moonlander2.sh
and change the pool, the username (after -u) the password (after -p) and save the file again
Code:
CTRL + o
or
Code:
STRG + o
depending on keyboard layout.

now thats its saved - quit the editor.
Code:
CTRL + X
or
Code:
STRG + x

you are ready to do a test run!
Code:
./start_moonlander2.sh
now bfgminer will start (hopefully).

if you dont want to edit existing config you can as well try this:
Code:
echo ./bfgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://us.litecoinpool.org:3333 -u jstefanop.1 -p 1,d=128 -S ALL --set MLD:clock=600 >startmoonlander.sh
in this line you change the pool - the username - the password option.
this will create a new file called "startmoonlander.sh" with your options - which can be modified later.

this file cant be used right now cause it is not executable. lets change that!
Code:
chmod +x startmoonlander.sh

and now you can try your new startup script!
Code:
./startmoonlander.sh

if you encounter any errors - describe them as good as possible or show us a screenshot and i bet - we will find a solution!

Greetings - Astrali

Thanks Astrali, got this running on my pi now. How does an “idiot” update to the latest version of the miner

I have 1x Moonlander working fine on my Windows PC. I have a couple more arriving soon and would like to set up on a Pi and hub.

Who has an "idiots guide" i can follow from the beginning - Linux is new to me

Thanks

I definitely think people are under-estimating how much power these Moonlanders need (when raising frequency)

Waiting for a usb tester to arrive to test out the different frequency presets

I don’t know about macs but in Windows, there is an option in Device Manager that stops the pc from turning off USB ports
76  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Official FutureBit Moonlander 2 Driver and Support Thread on: December 19, 2017, 09:24:07 AM
if my goal is 4.5mh per stick, do I need more than 1.0 amp per port?

Yes, more like 2A+ per port to be sure.
Mine at 5Mh draw 2.4 amps each.
These units are very efficient at 3.7Mh approx 5 watts
but power draw increased exponentially with Mh increase.

What kind of amps at 3.7Mh?

I'm trying to determine if I can get away with 1 amp or not as the costs associated to go to 2amp USB hubs is quite a big jump in price.

1A is about 3.5-3.8. You have to remember though, just like any PSU you can't expect reliable power delivery if your running it at 100%. Just like you can't really run a PC/GPU system that draws 500 watts with a 500 watt PSU.

This is my thought as well, I was thinking of going just under 1 amp to try and lessen the load.

Based upon everyone feedback here though it's clear I need to get a 2+ amp hub as I'm simply leaving too much on the table trying to mess with 1 amp limitation. Even if I want to keep the draw around 1 amp, I need more power than that to keep the port under an 80% load.

I currently have 1x Moonlander running on PC in a USB 3 port - works fine at 796 and 832.

Will be changing to a modified powered hub when it arrives.
77  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Official FutureBit Moonlander 2 Driver and Support Thread on: December 18, 2017, 03:18:02 PM
This is my current solution.

added an external power supply 5V 10A to the USB hub (directly connected to the USB ports without any chip limitations

Exactly what I am going to try. Waiting on a cheap 10 port USB hub to be delivered, have 12A 5v supply so should be able to power 6x Moonlanders
78  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Official FutureBit Moonlander 2 Driver and Support Thread on: December 18, 2017, 03:01:36 PM
Using a Gridseed it is possible to change and display the frequency in the "Manage devices" menu. Would be nice if it would be possible with the Moonlanders as well.

+1  Cool

How easy would it be to add data lines to all 10 USB ports instead of just the 4 in this hub?

http://www.enlvsun.com/Products/Smart10portsUSBcharg.html#.WjOcfGKnyEc

Or add a data connection to this charging hub? Spacing looks good for Moonlanders
