121  Economy / Speculation / Re: Don't panic and sell over China; "Spartans hold" on: December 17, 2013, 04:50:10 AM
With all the speculation over what's about to happen (or not happen) in China (http://www.coindesk.com/china-bans-payment-companies-working-bitcoin-exchanges-sources-claim/), I thought it was refreshing to read a Mashable piece that came out today on Cameron Winklevoss.

Quote
"Some days I don't even look at the price. I'm in this for the long-haul. Spartans hold."

Full story (where he's calling for bitcoin at $40k) here: http://mashable.com/2013/12/16/cameron-winklevoss-bitcoin/

I guess today isn't on of these days  Roll Eyes

OMG more good news!!!! I wonder why the price isn't 10k$ yet  Roll Eyes
123  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why didn't you sell? on: December 17, 2013, 04:47:14 AM
So did you guys sell this time?  Roll Eyes

I think you should wait a little more before start yelling "i told you so".

125  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Bitcoin future proof & secure? on: December 17, 2013, 04:10:51 AM
My main concern at the moment is security of crypto currencies it seems that we need an offline computer with a paper wallet + a USB key, i mean how common people could even think of getting into cryptos?

Thats an overkill in terms of security. If you talk about savings in bitcoins (wallets that you don't actually use everyday) then encrypting the wallet and making a backup in the cloud for example is more than enough.

For your day to day transactions you have to keep your computer clean like you do for every other online transaction like when you use credit cards paypal etc.
126  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price at end of 2014? on: December 17, 2013, 04:07:12 AM
I would say around $1000 - $1200 unless another country like one of the asian countries, or russia embraces Bitcoin like china did, then I would say around the $2000 mark

Nice post from 1 month ago. In case that you didn't notice things changes and china now fights bitcoin...
127  Economy / Economics / Re: Winklevoss: Trying to pump before they dump? on: December 17, 2013, 03:56:51 AM
Dumping when? Once bitcoin reaches 40000$ or when their etf becomes live?

Dumping as soon as the etf comes live. The etf is the vehicle for the twins to dump their holdings.

That doesn't makes sense. Obviously they can earn more dumping there rather on an exchange but not that more to justify the risk of waiting for the fund to approve if they believe that bitcoin is a  pump and dump scheme.
They may dump some when bitcoin reaches 40000$ but who wouldn't  Tongue
128  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 51% attack problem, are there any solutions to it? on: December 17, 2013, 03:51:07 AM
A government has many tools to attack bitcoin if they want. A 51% attack isn't one of those  Roll Eyes
129  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Bitcoin future proof & secure? on: December 17, 2013, 03:43:23 AM
I see people talking about new currencies and see on coin wars they list them all out but how are thease all able to sustain?  And how can you tell if they are legit?

There isn't any coin wars or something. Just some people making a lot of fuss about nothing.
130  Economy / Speculation / Re: is this about as serious as the dwolla / mt gox severing? on: December 17, 2013, 03:15:02 AM
I presume it'll move more into a peer to peer type of deal like localbitcoins. The government is being a tad optimistic thinking the exchanges are where all the action will ever be.

I dunno what the proportions are for their usage in other countries but I for one couldn't be arsed to wait to deposit to them myself. I think I obtained 5% of my coins via a formal exchange and that was such a grind I gave up.

Localbitcoins is a good alternative but can't support the big market cap that bitcoin has right now.
131  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin down big time...down $200 in a few hours on: December 17, 2013, 03:10:37 AM
In relation to my last post:

If everyone on bitcointalk posted a blog, make a tweet, or posted an FB status, or for that matter any social media activity in relation to bitcoin at the exact same time on the exact same day you/us as traders would see the benefit with in hours.

But this is nothing new! Big corporations do it daily. They know and time their advertizing to the second. What is the real goal of CEO's and presidents....? PUMP the stock!! How? Sell the goods!

Only that bitcoin is not a pump and dump scheme. And we are fed up with volatility already. We don't want to add more. Slow and steady growth is what we should look for from now on.
132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will I be able to use Bitcoins at the mall in 2014??? on: December 17, 2013, 03:07:31 AM
I hope we get some Bitcoin ATM machines here in the uk next year. That would really help promotion and legitimise it with the public.

I 'm not sure about legitimising it. So far whenever bitcoin gets into the radar of authorities bad things happen   Sad

And whatever the authorities start poking their noses in Fox news starts broadcasting about So I can't wait

Can't wait for what? Watch the fox news?  Roll Eyes
133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are bitcoins indestructible? on: December 17, 2013, 03:02:48 AM
Why do we even talk about the bitcoineaterblablabla address? It's an address without the private key like so many others that people lost their keys already  Roll Eyes

The difference is, this bitcoineater address quite possibly does not have an equivalent private key. The ones that people lost, they once had private keys. They just lost them.

It's certain not quite possible that it doesn't have an equivalent private key. So what?
134  Economy / Economics / Re: "Backing" - what does this actually MEAN? on: December 17, 2013, 03:00:40 AM
Backing= guarantee of future exchange value

BC, needs a guarantee of its future exchange value.

As it has none, it cant be money.

Obviously you mean guarantee by a central authority. That's not going to happen ever because bitcoin don't wants that to happen.
You see bitcoin with fiat currency standards thats why you can't understand basic things.

No. Thats one form of backing (dollar).

Gold/Silver have backing (inherent).

Bitcoin has NO backing.
Bitcoin has that other backing that you talk about. It's the massive value of it's network and the thousands of people's that are strengthen that network.
135  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 1.49 stolen on: December 17, 2013, 02:58:33 AM
USE linux, there's no viruses for linux
Does that mean I should keep everything on my Android phone?  Because it's linux, you know that right?  And there's noooo viruses on Android, right??

There are viruses on linux and android isn't linux per se it's just based on the linux kernel.
136  Economy / Speculation / Re: Its looking Ugly, and will get worse! on: December 17, 2013, 02:55:57 AM
I'm feeling your pain, because I decided to buy 3 bitcoins around $700-900 to play around with. Now I am in the process of liquidating all my positions.

You have a 2 and half years old account and you bought 3 bitcoins at 900$ just to get your feet wet? Something is off here...
137  Economy / Economics / Re: Big news.Chinea central bank closed the internet transfer channel to market. on: December 17, 2013, 02:53:24 AM
source?

I haven't heard of any official source so far but i know of one source that usually don't lie. Btcchina  Roll Eyes
138  Economy / Speculation / Re: Reason for Today's Crash: China Bans Bitcoin Payment Processors on: December 17, 2013, 02:51:54 AM
The crash in btcchina speaks of itself. I don't think that the chinese are mislead about an article in reddit or coindesk or in anywhere else.
I think they know better what's going on and they respond by selling...
139  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China, Norway, Switzerland economies to take an Epic beating on: December 17, 2013, 02:46:10 AM
Btw the photo is photoshopped or real?

Are you seriously asking?HuhHuh??

It 's photo of a tsunami not a photo of death star attacking new york.
In case that you don't know it already tsunamis can happen and have killed hundreds of people before.

Wow! I thought tsunamis only killed dozens of people, not hundreds.  Roll Eyes

Wow! I thought you just failed both on trolling and on sarcasm  Roll Eyes
140  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Japanese researchers break 41 out of 64 steps of SHA256 with preimage attack. on: December 17, 2013, 02:43:55 AM
Title: Japanese researchers break 41 out of 64 steps of SHA256 with preimage attack.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose preimage attacks [...]

sensationalist 6/10
Do you not understand all scientific papers use propose?

Propose as in "You can do it this way that we discovered"

Not propose as in "We think"

I think he means that you should evaluate the actual preimage attack that they propose before saying that they broke it.
I mean i can propose an attack: Search for all the possible keys one by one... This is a nice theoretical attack but has no value in the real world...
