1  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~5000 Gh/s] DeepBit.net PPS+Prop,instant payouts, we pay for INVALID BLOCKS too on: July 11, 2011, 06:01:49 PM
This is starting to get really annoying this ddos bullshit.

Starting?  It's been going on so long that I went from anger to complacency.  You'll get used to it.
2  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Linux vs Windows for Dedicated Mining on: July 04, 2011, 06:48:21 AM
I've got 14 cards on linux and 4 cards on windows.  I'll run it down for you from what I noticed.

--------- Positive--------------

1) Linux has superior power management.
a1)  Running 6970, 6970, 6950 in windows draws 1100 watts in windows.
a1)  Running 6970, 6970, 6970, 6870, in linux draws 1100 watts.

2) Linux has drastically less CPU usage.  I need at least a 3x core at 3 GHz to run 4x 5850s in windows.   On linux i disable all cores but 1.   I now run a 2.7 single core with 4x 5850s.

3)  Remote management is vastly easier in linux.  Multiple SSH etc.

4)  Hash per second is virtually the same.

5)  Incredibly stable.  I think I've had a 4 machines up for 2-3 weeks now.

6)  Can run ATI Stream 2.1 & 2.4 at the same time.  Allowing 6xxx and 5xxx on same system.

-----  THE DOWNSIDE ------------

Voltage tweaking and overclocking are terrible.

1) 6950, 6970, 6990 cannot be overclocked in linux using AMDCtrl.   Any overclocking cause the mhash to lower.

2)  Non-reference 5xxxx are very difficult to overvolt.  Easy to overclock under stock voltage.  Lowering memory is difficult.

3)  Basically if you cannot flash your bios then you will NOT be able to overvolt your card in linux.  (You can still overclock at stock voltage.)

4) Fairly difficult to get wifi cards working if you don't get the right one.
3  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Best thing to hold cards that are on pci extender cables? on: July 04, 2011, 06:39:09 AM
The first cat or small child to come along would destroy your mining operation.

I'm experimenting with 3/4" x 3/4" x 1/8" aluminum angle stock from Lowes.  8 feet of the stuff is about 15 bucks + tax.  The pieces can be easily bolted/riveted/tied together to make a cage of your desired dimensions. If it pans out I can order 24 foot segments (shipping is murder for small quantities) and mass manufacture 4 and 8 card cage kits to sell for bitcoins.

I'm experimenting with screwing the cards down on one end of the 'cage' and just letting them rest on a bit of padding on the back end.  Biggest danger so far is PCIe extenders falling off the cards, followed closely by cards ingesting cat hair.

They are actually a lot more sturdy then they look.  Those extender cables are very stiff and tend to hold the cards fairly well.  If those cards were to dominoe to the side nothing would happen and they would keep mining.  It's possible a cable would pop off but no permanent damage.   I have 4 rigs setup similar to that and knocked them over a couple of times.   All is well.

And who the hell has random children + cats show up?? I sure as shit don't.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: LIKE a Facebook Page to Indicate to all your Friends that You Sell Bitcoins on: July 02, 2011, 06:57:25 AM
I almost liked it but find the page and title severely damaging to my eyes.

You really need a better title and page setup.     Or maybe we just need a "Bitcoin" page that we can all like.  Facebook is the new social media.. it toppled a government!!  Unless there is already a page?
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PC World Claims Counterfeit Bitcoins on: July 02, 2011, 06:54:13 AM
The author responded.... and agreed to change the term 'counterfeit bitcoins' to ..........  'fake bitcoins'!!!!

Quote
I understand there's been some exception to my use of the term counterfeit. First off, let me clarify that Mt.Gox agreed with me when I asked if the hacker was using fake currency, in other words the Bitcoins were phony or, as I said, counterfeit.

For all intents and purposes the hacker was circulating currency on Mt.Gox as if it were real BTC, it was being traded, it was affecting the currency price and nobody knew what has going on until it was too late. The only problem was the fake money couldn't be taken out of the exchange because the BTC couldn't be authenticated.

This was not just the simple act of changing numbers in a database, as some have suggested, since the hacker pushed the supposed currency into the market where it did real damage and appeared, at least for a short time, to be the real thing.

That said, I can understand how some people could misunderstand what I reported based on the headline. So I have asked the editors to change the term "counterfeit" to "fake." My apologies if you took issue with the title, it was not my intention to offend or mislead.

Hm..... So there are no such thing as Counterfeit bitcoins, but there are fake bitcoins.... Doesn't sound that much better!

Nah, I wouldn't even go that far.  Since the bitcoins don't even have a fakechain block they can't be fake.  All they are is someone saying they have more then they do.  When it comes time to deliver all they have is air.  They don't exist.  Nada, nothing.

Very cool.  Like em all.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PC World Claims Counterfeit Bitcoins on: July 01, 2011, 08:22:29 PM
"The hacker was able to create 2 million counterfeit BTC by manipulating the company's trading database ..."

In my opinion from an technical point of view this article claims no false facts and is correct.
The question for me is if it realy was happen in this way. But that makes me not calling the author an "idiot".
So he takes the time to get the facts right and not be libel, but none the less uses the word counterfeit as the article headline.

Nice hack job.

you're right - nice hack job.

but you're wrong - there's no libel (slander, actually).  nobody has legal standing where Bitcoin are concerned.  it isn't a currency; so you haven't been injured.  there is no company which owns the Bitcoin name... etc.

nobody's been libeled.  nobody's been hurt.

we're kinda screwed where the media is concerned.  they can say whatever they like.

Actually, you are completely wrong.

This could very well be slander.  Changing a database to say someone has 2million bitcoins versus "creating 2 million via block chain" are COMPLETELY different.  If the author did not do his research that is his fault.

Anyone has legal standing to sue.  One simply has to prove 1) They were injured 2) Causation.     I definitely think it has merit.

It doesn't really matter if BTC is a currency or not.  It's property, it has value.  If the slander(purposeful or not) lowers the value of our property, that's an injury.

As a recap, they can say whatever they want as long as no one challenges them.
8  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Why we should support TradeHill (and others), it will make the world better on: June 26, 2011, 08:43:08 AM
because they get a piece of the action for people who join off their link.  This early in the game who knows who the big players are going to be, so every person you sign up is like a lottery ticket that cost you nothing but a little conversation, because some of these accounts are going to see massive volume over the next few years.

at least that's my impression

I'm not referring anyone to TradeHill, just to be clear.  My argument for supporting them actually applies to any (non gox) exchange.

God damn.  Where did you come from?  I open my browser to do some reading and see your god damn fanboi stupid martian plastered over every damn post.

Quit being a fucking fan boy.  If Tradehill wants to survive then it needs to become a better product, END OF STORY.

FUCK OFF.
9  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: what is the best non-doublewide card out there? on: June 25, 2011, 09:03:14 PM
water cooled cards are also single slot

They are NOT single slot.

If you get a double and put a water block on it it's still double.  You just have less overhead.
10  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Mt. Gox is up! on: June 25, 2011, 09:01:32 PM
I just withdrew my 200-400 into my dwolla account.

I'm going to keep trading on the Dox.
11  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How many liquid-cooled 6990s can a 1500W PSU push? on: June 25, 2011, 08:59:50 PM
I would say 3x at most.

There isn't any disadvantages with mining on water.  In fact you can overclock and get way more Mhash with low noise and little heat.  My 6990 has been mining forever @ 990 MHZ and is currently at 50C.  It gets 850 m/hash.   Can up voltage and easily hit 1025.

Unfortunately water cooling is not easy, although I think it may be easier with mining.  As you have no case you won't have to worry about shit not fitting and buying the wrong stuff.

I'd hop over to OCN and review the water cooling threads.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will price of btc be within first 24 hours of trading? on: June 25, 2011, 11:41:53 AM
Lets hear it! cast your vote!

This poll is retarded.  I don't like any of those options.  I'm expecting it will align with TradeHill however.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll - Mt. Gox Rollback - We Finally see our Accounts on: June 25, 2011, 11:34:00 AM
Remember your Mt. gox support password is DIFFERENT.

Paid $130 shipped for an open box 6870 earlier today; you'd be insane to pay OP's prices unless he tosses in a decent reach-around. Jus' Sayin'.
The guy who sold his 6870 for $130 is a fool.  He could have easily gotten $150+ on ebay.

OH shit!  I read this 5 minutes ago and I'm still laughing LOLOLOL

http://cgi.ebay.com/HIS-RADEON-HD-6870-1GB-MEM-/120740929365?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item1c1cb85f55

130$ with 20 hours left and 10 bids.   plus $15 shipping.  So total cost is currently $145.

Minus ebay and paypal fees, and its not like he gets to pocket the shipping money so more like $110 in his pocket.

You're adorable you know that?  I like you Smiley

20 hours left with most of the movement in the last 1-8 hours.   I'm expecting it to hit 175$.

6990 for $1200

Good thing no one wanted to pick mine up.
