yes, it was plenty.  I filled the holes like in your photo.  Scraped off as much as possible . Then I cleaned up a square around the holes with a q-tip and isopropyl alchohol.

also, I noticed the new moonlanders have "lines" on the back of the board showing where the heatsink should be attached.  Nice touch.  Looks like the large heatsink is perfectly centered around the chip on the other side.

Mine are all running strong @700 right out of the box, under .5% error rate, I'll tune them later tonight for MOAR SPEED!

Anyone try Thermal Grizzly on the moonlander 2?

https://www.amazon.com/Thermal-Grizzly-Kryonaut-Grease-Paste/dp/B011F7W3LU/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1517072281&sr=1-1&keywords=thermal+grizzly+kryonaut

I'm wondering is 1gram will be enough for 4 moonlanders?  My order for AsicPuppy should be arriving soon, and I want to make sure I have enough on hand.

If your putting on thermal material its only to fill in the via holes, please check the assembly instructions...that is way more than enough. Don't put a layer on there like you would with a CPU otherwise the heatsink wont stick and it will fall off and you'll most likely be left with a fried miner.

That is s sleeve bearing.  Unless yours are REALLY noisy, no reason to replace with this one.

Well I finally got my ball bearing fans in for the stock replacements.

They work well but they are extremely loud compared to the stock sleeve fan.

They are the same type/brand as the stock fan, just ball bearing, direct replacement.

You probably bought one that is really high RPM...these fans can go up to 15k RPM. You only need about 7-10k RPM to properly cool these. Stock fans run around 9-11k.

would a 8000rpm fan cool the sticks sufficiently at 5 MH/s

Ok, I have to apologize for my dumb-assery.  Turns out I was splitting the paper film on top of the adhesive.  I thought I was splitting the adhesive.... I just had to peel a little more off.   Undecided

I'm all good, sorry for the false alarm, and Thanks for all the fast responses... 4 more ML2 are live in the field!

Oh boy.  I seem to be having trouble with the small heatsinks.  The tape is splitting when I try to pull off the protective layer.

Any tips?

Any recommendations for replacement tape or heatsinks?

Awesome!  Question:  do we get an email notification or tracking info when they ship?

Preorders have arrived and I'll be shipping all pending orders over the next week. Watch your mailboxes!

In stock units will be available soon after

Pretty sure sleeve bearings should be greased, not oiled.

i have one fan that died.. it spins very slowly and makes a horrible rattling noise.. this is the fan that started making noise before i oiled it.

ive since oiled all my fans.. a few of them were completely dry..

i suggest everyone to peel the sticker off and put a drop of oil on the bearing.. let it soak in for a few minutes and run the fan face down for a few.

Be careful.. oil can mix with dust making some sort of paste and block the bearigns completely. Some bearings are designed to run dry (don't know if these are the case).

some of them had oil on them..

i really dont think these fans are going to last very long.. i really wish he went with the longer heatsink and put the fan on top. that way when it fails you can just remove it.

28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: FutureBit Moonlander 2 USB Hubs Thread on: January 17, 2018, 01:54:43 PM
I hate to tell you, there have been reports of anker hubs having issue with the R-pi, I think it is even mentioned in this thread.

Sorry i'm new here, I just bought a pi and two anker 13 port hubs to run 10 ml2's but i can't get all of the ports recognized. Only about half of them on each hub work. Is there any way to disable the unusable ports to free up the ones i need?

Bought this.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IJ2J2K0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm wondering, if it could be a replacement for all the little fans, or if I will need to run both.

When I get my next set of moonlanders, I may even try running with the big external fans, removing the little fans.  I do want to run them faster than stock though.

yeah, thats what I thought.  sticking out of a computer/laptop, the fan site horizontal(flat), but attached to a hub, you have many orientations, depending on the hub.  I'll put my hub on its side when I get my new batch of moonlanders.

Would the fans on these fair better if they were oriented differently?

It is a sleeve bearing right?  I'm thinking it might be better if the usb hub sat on it side, so the fans could lay flat.

I run mine flat, not vertically but I have direct replacement ball bearing fans coming.

Sleeve bearings run better horizontal, if your run them vertically the perpendicular forces against the shaft will start wearing the sleeve bearing faster than normal and it will start vibrating more. Ive run these fans vertical and so far most of them are holding up fine after months of use.

Don't solo mine, use a pool.  You will accumulate LTC faster than you think, and if you want you can sell it for tother coins.

32  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Who likes pod miners? on: January 16, 2018, 12:24:10 PM
Yeah, that is what I was thinking.  I might consider one, just to support development of the next thing, but I can't see why anyone would want more than one.  If it is going to be in the red, there is really no point in plugging it in.  It is just the equivalent of turning on the air conditioning in the summer, and then opening the windows.

Thats a shame frankly because it sounds pretty amazing.  Difficulty is just too high for casual miners.

$100 seems a bit steep to me.  Any word on how long to just break even as far as RoI?

You can calculate it. Based on the specs he posted above, the most efficient settings seem to be:

150MHz (66GH) 660mV/node 2.64V total; 12V 2.0A for 24.0W/0.36J/GH

Plugging that into a calculator (I used https://www.coinwarz.com/calculators/bitcoin-mining-calculator) at standard US electric rates gives a net profit of about $24 per year - at current difficulty (which goes up every 2 weeks)

So, unless you have a cheaper source of electricity, they aren't likely to be very profitable if they sell at $100. I'm Ok with that as I'm setting up a solo mine and I'm impressed by sidehack's work, so I'm willing to support him. But at current bitcoin price and difficulty, it will be difficulty to justify a $100 miner unless you have free electricity.

HA!  a whopping 4 posts... you won't be missed!

football was:

25% increase is called greed.

Im sorry you are expecting to pay the same price as the people waiting 2 months for these. I could easily set the MSRP at 149, and they would still sell out but Im not, because this project was founded on getting a cheap miner in the hands of as many people as possible, which is what we are doing.

whatever you like man. U sell to ur sheeple.
I am out of here.

I got the sipolar a-400, 12v x 10A = 120 watts.

If you keep your miners @ ~2amps each, you can slot 10.  5A * 2A = 10 watts.  That also leaves you with a 20% buffer.

If you push them faster, higher, say 900mhz... ~3A.  That is 15 watts each.  15 watts * 8 = 120 watts.  Though I think 8 would be pushing it.  No buffer.

Seems like the most bang for the buck frankly.  The a-200 is only 90 watts(20A*4.5v).... who cares if it has 20 slots, you cant really use them.  Even at 10 watts per stick, you could only get 9 on this hub, and I suspect it would be unstable, because again, no buffer.

Aliexpress has this thing on sale for $45... really does seem like the best bang for your buck.

Tried again with a clean install.

the following command seemed to fix it

Code:
sudo apt-get install raspberrypi-kernel-headers

Hoping you can help.

I'm having some driver troubles here

I had no trouble on my raspi2, but I decided to use a fresh rpi3, with a 64gb sd card, nice open air case with a fan.

here is what I'm seeing, I had to install headers, which i did, I also had to create the build directory.  I'm stuck, here is what I'm seeing.
