1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Data compilation on successful BFL Refunds. on: September 04, 2013, 03:33:37 AM
http://bflfraud.com/forums/index.php?topic=2.0

Please add to this if you were successful at obtaining refund from BFL. Directly or inderectly.

Would really be interested if your refund was willingly given or you had to fight for it.

Mods: Do what you need.

Flametards: Have at it.

adding "maybe" as an option would be fair...

Maybe I would get a refund!
3  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL announces 28nm 600GH/S blade for $4680 on: August 18, 2013, 01:20:48 AM
Due to double node jump, the max power should be 0.77W/GH (3.1W/GH divided by 4). Based on everything we know from any chip industry (FPGA, CPU, GPU, etc), that should be the ceiling in power-consumption.

Hi Nasser,

Brave of you to dive into the BCT feeding frenzy!

I'm curious about your numbers - 0.77 * 600 = 462W - how come it says 350W on the website?

What he is saying is that just the theoretical power efficiency increase alone gained from 55nm to 28nm should guarantee 0.77 W/GH. But he also said they improved the design (maybe fewer transistors, a "sea-of-hasher" design like bitfury, etc), therefore it should be even lower than 0.77 W/GH.

There's no way that's true.  Check out this paper: Power Consumption in CMOS VLSI chips

It mostly comes down to the gate capacitance. I'm not an IC engineer, but my understanding is that when you have a closed transistor with a +V on one side an -V on the other, then the charges on the two sides end up being like an incredibly tiny capacitor.  So, even though the transistor is in the 'off' state current will still flow a tiny bit just like how it can flow through an un-charged capacitor.

And the thing is as feature sizes get smaller and smaller, the ratio between surface area and volume goes up, and the gap between the gate and drain get smaller as well. And of course you have more transistors.

And I also think gate leakage is higher with smaller nodes as well.

On the other hand, the voltage can be a lot lower.

Either way, claiming you'll have a straight linear relationship between feature area and power seems kind of ridiculous to me. I guess we'll see.

Dont sweat the little stuff. This is just the initial announcement. We will take lots of pre-orders first. Then we will get one or two and say, oops missed our power estimates. Then we will redesign, double the price and sell more.  Rinse, Repeat. Wink

After the jalapeno to little single "upgrade" screw over some people got. Its gonna be interesting to see how this washes out. Love the no CC or Paypal. Must have been a little painful giving that money back, having it taken back. Probably way more refunds went through than we will ever know. This might be a good place for a PSA?

5  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: is cloudhashing.com a scam?? on: August 06, 2013, 05:19:35 PM
I doubt this will make anyone feel better and I think its tailored more for BFL but it seems many entities are in the mix together. This is not my site! Found it looking for other info on BFL. Its new so not much exposure and I can not vouch for the validity of what is stated within, or how long it will be up. If it is to be believed its looks like a bunch of backroom deals going on between a few of the bigger players. Screw you little guy, just give your money and shut up. http://bflfraud.com/

If anyone had been there... They'd know that was taken out of context.  I was referring to the Oct delivery date and I'm not "cutting in line."  I just have my spot reserved from the time I contacted Dave.

Well, it seems a bit like cutting in line. Like making a preorder and not having to pay for it but keeping your place secured for an unlimited amount of Hashrate. On another note, I read that labrat would be using Dave's personal equipment, so that really does not affect any orders.  LabRat, I am not accusing you of anything unscrupulous here, but at the time you toured the BFL facility, from your observation of how good everything looked you agreed with Josh's statements about BFL being able to meet their claim of backlog clearing by Aug or Sept.

I know you don't work for BFL and you don't control jack over there, but it seemed strangely coincidental that shortly after your visit to BFL, you announced your endeavor selling bonds of labrat mining. At that point, Shipping from BFL Slowed to a crawl and you somehow ended up with over 10TH/s of gear.  You don't owe me any explanation about where your gear came from nor can I prove you didn't order the first BFL order and it was for 10TH/s. Or maybe you had a bunch of Avalon. Fact is I don't know. But it is a bit disturbing to start reading about this over here now.

Is Josh or an entity he controls hosting your gear?  It doesn't look quite right and I hope you don't take too much offense of my reasoning and question. But if You and BFL made a sweetheart deal and pushed all those cads with orders way back because of it, it would be just completely wrong.

I hope everything I put in this post is inaccurate and all is above board. If you came by your 10TH/s and growing honestly, I applaud you and wish you the best. I feel I may be paranoid and senile because of the debacle at BFL so the weird conspiracy theory comes out. If I am way off base about any part of my hypothesis, please accept my sincere apology at this moment, it is yours for the taking.

Alternatively you can berate Josh and get a forced refund.

Otherwise known as getting Xian'ed

Honestly, it's not one of my better qualities, and I'm not proud of it. Working on getting better. Takes a lot to get me that wound up, however, and is pretty rare all things considered.

You are officially now a verb. Smiley and not a bad one at that

Thanks for the updates Dave. Are you still planing to hold off on hosting plans until Nov?

Yes.  I'm trying to get to the point where I can offer individual hosted units, but at this time its looking like I might need to keep the offer at half-rack hosted (8 full rigs) and full rack hosted (16 rigs).  The ability to host smaller amounts makes things very complicated, but we'll get there.

On the other hand I'll give a preview of a new offer I'm pretty excited about.

Similar to purchasing a cell phone on contract, I want to give miners the opportunity to land a larger amount of hashpower with a smaller amount of up front capital.  So for example, you could put down a 30 - 40% deposit on a half rack hosted.  This would put your hardware in my datacenter, where it would mine-out the remaining amount owed on the order.  Of course you will pay more for the hardware financing it this way and it would require hosting which adds a revenue share (5% - 8%).  Once the gear is paid off you could take delivery, or leave it in hosting mode.

I'm working out the details on this, but just wanted to give people a little preview of the idea.  I'd love to get your feedback on the idea - good or bad!

I would have great interest in this.

Sorry I left KNC off the list.

If you add options in your reply I will add them to the poll, but you will have to vote for your option after i add it.
