1  Economy / Service Announcements / CoinTerra announces Bitcoin mining contracts from 200 GH/s starting at $999 on: May 13, 2014, 08:35:12 PM
Having already delivered over 10 Petahash of Bitcoin mining hardware and currently powering more than 15% of the entire Bitcoin network, CoinTerra has now taken another step towards becoming the premier vertically-integrated cryptocurrency services company by adding Bitcoin mining contracts to its product range.

As the leading designer, manufacturer and supplier of powerful Bitcoin mining equipment, CoinTerra is able to offer mining contracts at prices significantly below the industry average, and to a broader cross-section of customers around the world.

“Many prospective Bitcoin miners don’t have the space or power requirements to operate their own Bitcoin mining hardware, especially at scale. In addition, some foreign countries have import restrictions on advanced cryptocurrency hardware or punitively high duties, but our new mining contracts truly enable mining without borders.” said Ravi Iyengar, CEO – CoinTerra, Inc.

CoinTerra’s Bitcoin mining contracts offer a range of performance plans, with introductory pricing starting at just $999 for a 12 month, 200 GH/s mining contract and going all the way up to a 1 PH/s, 24 month contract. When ordering, customers can combine multiple contracts to create personalized hash power plans. After the mining contract is activated, customers receive weekly payouts to their Bitcoin wallet address, based on the hash power of the bitcoin mining contract(s) purchased.

The highly scalable TruePeta™ system is built on CoinTerra’s proven GoldStrike™ I ASIC and TerraMiner™ platform, hosted at CoinTerra’s state-of-the-art Tier-3 compliant datacenter.

“Unlike other cloud mining solutions, CoinTerra builds its own hardware, so we can rapidly deploy multi-Petahash solutions on-demand to the datacenter. The systems are monitored by a team of experienced engineers, assuring twenty-four seven uptime in a controlled and secure managed environment.” said Dr. Timo Hanke, CTO – CoinTerra, Inc.

3  Bitcoin / Hardware / A word from the team at CoinTerra. on: May 02, 2014, 05:21:48 PM
A word from the team at CoinTerra.

Since we started shipping the TerraMiner IV bitcoin miner we have, as you may understand, been exceedingly busy providing support, answering questions and handling the workings of everyday business.  We recently announced that we had passed the 5,000 TerraMiner mark which is an incredible achievement, made by a small but dedicated team here in Austin, Texas. An effect of this has been that as much as we would have wanted to, we haven’t had the bandwidth to spend as much time as we have wanted to on the forums.

We acknowledge that a lot of questions and issues are discussed here on bitcointalk.org rather than through our support channel and we will attempt to be more attentive to the community, and provide what information we can in forum threads that concern CoinTerra hardware.

Unfortunately it would be near-impossible for us to answer all open questions on the forums on a case-by-case basis and individual customer support requests should always be communicated through http://cointerra.com/contact

To give everyone in the community a better understanding of where we are we would like to provide some general information here to help those looking to solve an issue, get up and running with their hardware or simply stay up to date on our development.

Forum Conversation:

We have been alerted to the fact that there are a significant number of “troll” accounts here on bitcointalk that exclusively post inflammatory posts concerning legitimate companies.

We have been reaching out to individual users who have posted issues via private message to address concerns they have expressed in the forums. To our surprise very few members have answered our request for contact, typically these are users with a low post count (although not always).

We would encourage users to use their best judgment when determining the legitimacy of posts here on the forums (whether they be CoinTerra related or otherwise).

Support:

We always attempt to reply to all support request inquires within 48 hours. At times this has taken longer due to a large volume of support requests but we are currently very close to this goal.

We may occasionally reach out via private messages here on the forum to users requesting support and posting in threads concerning CoinTerra. It is always our goal for all of our customers to receive the support they deserve. Due to privacy rules we are unable to respond to individual customer issues in a public forum.

RMA:

For customers that experience issues with their CoinTerra hardware we have a consistent procedure in place to diagnose issues (starting with the customer providing us with system diagnostics unless it is a very rare occurrence of a DOA system – usually due to a shipping mishap) and approved RMA’s now have a typical turnaround time of less than a week.

New Pricing Model:

As you may be aware we have recently moved from our fixed pricing to a new “spot pricing” model where we take into account many factors in the bitcoin ecosystem and adjust our prices accordingly.

We believe that customers appreciate the option to purchase in-stock mining equipment for immediate delivery at a price that we feel is very competitive in the marketplace compared to our competitors.

Next Generation:

We know that many are interested in what the next step in product development is for CoinTerra and we are, for the time being, still laying the groundwork for future product series. We will provide the community with information on our next generation of bitcoin mining hardware in the near future: All product announcements and updates are made on our website at http://cointerra.com

ASICs, Boards and D-I-Y:

In addition to our retail sales of bitcoin mining equipment we have had many requests for sales of components that would allow the community to build their own bitcoin mining equipment based on our technology:

We have recently opened up sales of the GoldStrike I 28nm ASIC chips and boards for mining builder projects and would be happy to discuss the opportunities presented by this with those users who may be interested in developing custom mining solution around our ASIC. If you would be interested in developing your own mining solutions using the GoldStrike I you can contact us via PM here on bitcointalk.org or through sales@cointerra.com for more information.

General:

Since CoinTerra was founded back in mid-2013 the bitcoin ecosystem has exploded and in less than a year bitcoin has grown from a rather publicly unknown project, to what we expect will soon be a highly-adopted transaction ecosystem. As a company dedicated to the success and adoption of bitcoin will continue to deliver industry-leading technology at a highly competitive price, and strive to improve in the areas that need improvement, whatever they may be.

These are very exciting times and we are humbled to be part of a movement with such wide ranging implications for finance, trade, technology and society as a whole.

Yours,
Team CoinTerra

5  Bitcoin / Hardware / CoinTerra Update: Engineering and Production status on: January 25, 2014, 11:46:04 PM
http://cointerra.com/update-engineering-production-status/

DATELINE 1/24/2014

Today we wanted to communicate our plans as we move from pre-production into production. As soon as the FCC/CE/UL certification process is completed we will be able to commence shipping the very first production TerraMiners and incrementally ramp up to volume capacity over the coming days.

On the hardware front, we have implemented circuit board modifications which have improved the efficiency of the power conversion circuitry from the time of our initial board bringup and we have revised the firmware on the BeagleBone Black controller card to take advantage of this.

Having achieved a good level of stability and based on feedback from our customers, we have decided to push the button to release our first production TerraMiners IV’s.

Our production lines are assembling units and we have submitted for certification simultaneously. The production units that we have assembled and tested so far are running at between 1.63TH/s and 1.72TH/s with power draw at the wall between 1900W and 2100W – typically 20% higher than our anticipated target of 1650W but still sufficient to operate in a typical US home (110V) plugged into two outlets on separate 15A circuits, or in a typical European home (230V) on a single circuit.

The first-batch of TerraMiner IV units shipping to customers

Is easily the most powerful high-performance Bitcoin miner available today. It smashes the 1TH/s barrier by a huge margin
Is the lowest cost per gigahash of any Bitcoin mining rig on the market
Achieves the highest density of Bitcoin hashing power in its compact 4U enclosure
We will continue tweaking the firmware and any updates will be posted to the CoinTerra website.

Additionally, we have begun a board redesign which will enter production when fully tested and approved. It is anticipated that the board revision will offer further hardware optimizations and power efficiencies and based on the initial simulations it will permit us to hit our initial performance target of 2TH/s.

We expect to post the next update as soon as we’ve received certification early next week and begin delivery.
6  Bitcoin / Hardware / CoinTerra Update: Testing Completed, Certification and Production This Week on: January 21, 2014, 01:53:15 AM
DATELINE: 1/20/14

Our last update on January 14th included a short video of a working TerraMiner IV, and further information regarding the testing and characterization status.

Over the past week our engineering team has been busy conducting some board tweaks needed before we can push the button to commence production of our first batch of TerraMiners.

At the same time we have been preparing the hardware for mandatory FCC and CE product testing and certification, and UL safety testing and certification which we have been informed will take approximately 2-3 days to complete.

We expect to begin shipping the initial run of units at the end of this week, incrementally ramping up production for volume shipping commencing next week. In parallel the production lines at both of our Central Texas manufacturing facilities are presently assembling the chassis (including the rear fans and power supplies), front panels (with fans, grills and LEDs), and the other non-board components in preparation for the fully-populated boards to be dropped in for final assembly and a short but essential burn-in quality control testing period.

TerraMiner chassis being built-up on one of the production lines.

We have signed off on the first release version of the software which controls the TerraMiner, having made some final tweaks to the web-based Control Panel, and flashed to each BeagleBone Black controller board. The user guide, with step-by-step instructions for setting up, configuring and operating the TerraMiner will be posted to the CoinTerra website prior to shipping our first production units.

We expect to be able to post another status report later this week with updates on the certification processes and shipment of our very first production miners.

7  Bitcoin / Hardware / CoinTerra Engineering Update: TerraMiner IV Hashing Live on: January 15, 2014, 04:18:05 AM
DATELINE: 1/14/2014 AUSTIN, TX

In our last update we showed an engineering test board with a single die on one GoldStrike I ASIC hooked up to a bench power supply, controlled by two laptops. Today, for our second update of 2014 we are excited to share the progress that our engineers have made in the past week, and it’s a big step indeed.  For the first time we are able to demonstrate a standalone TerraMiner IV engineering prototype fully populated with four GoldStrike I chips, the BeagleBone Black controller board, CoolIt liquid cooling system, fans and Power-One power supplies – in other words, a real built-up TerraMiner IV!

A real, working TerraMiner IV makes its world debut!

A rear view of the TerraMiner IV on a (slightly) messy workbench.

The engineering refinements and improvements each day have been encouraging, and earlier today we fired this unit up and it has been hashing at approximately 1.6TH/s on the Eligius mining pool. During a break, we shot this short video: http://youtu.be/OS0HOgd7AmI

The TerraMiner Control Panel is on the left and the output from CGMiner is on the right. No, this wasn’t from the future – the Eligius time zone is set to European time.

At 1.62TH/s we have hit a little over 80% of our performance target. We hope you’ll appreciate that our engineers have been making continuous tweaks and refinements each day to improve the power efficiencies on the board to increase performance.

As we enter the final stages of testing and tuning needed before we start shipping, we’ll be sure to report back with any news and information. All of the components are in hand for the first batch of hardware and we’re awaiting the go-ahead from the engineering team before we push the button and start full production.

No mining manufacturer is real and trustworthy until they produce and ship working miners. We'll have to wait and see if they deliver. I live in San Antonio and may come up and visit to see your outfit. Do we need an appt or can we just show up?
You are welcome to our office anytime. Feel free to just show up.

there could be a more than a dozen+ Ravi Iyengar's in India. Just like John Smith and Patty Smith and Tom Dickinson etc...

But what are the odds of two Ravi's using the same office space, one into Bitcoin and one a travel agent?

The travel agency email shown here says the travel agent is operating from India, not from Austin. There are millions of Ravi's in India, and surely a few hundreds of Ravi Iyengar's.

Perhaps Ravi is a travel agent in his past or spare side job?

Or....  Roll Eyes

Ravi, the CEO of CoinTerra, is still in his thirties and is Not a travel agent Smiley.

CoinTerra officially moved into Suite 303 on Nov 4th. Prior to that CoinTerra was sub-leasing an office at Suite 200.

16  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: November 30, 2013, 02:35:19 AM
We'd like to take a moment to address sharpspoon's concerns:

Firstly - we would like to apologize to sharpspoon for any miscommunication or lack of communication on CoinTerra’s part. We’ve already reached out to him directly this evening via a Private Message and a senior member of the management team will look into his specific situation and resolve it as quickly as possible.

Secondly - and this is not a "the dog ate my homework" excuse - but we've done some investigation and we *think* we know why sharpspoon's issue wasn't responded to when it was supposedly escalated to senior management. I was reluctant to go into the details but in the interest of transparency here goes:  When our Tier 2 (escalated) customer service expert cc'd (it's a blind cc, only viewable internally) a member of the management team asking him to personally look into the issue, he left the ticket 'open' (as opposed to 'resolved', which is what we do when we close a ticket). It appears that in our Customer Support software, when you do that, the ticket stays in ‘open’ limbo and doesn't forward the cc until the ticket is finally closed (resolved) - which only happens when the issue has been fixed satisfactorily for the customer. We are going to look into this and find a solution, if it is indeed what I suspect the problem is.

Thirdly - yes it is true that we have been inundated with inquiries over the past two weeks, due to the massive surge in world-wide interest in the Bitcoin ecosystem as the BTC price has skyrocketed, and that has directed a huge amount of traffic to CoinTerra: This has been very much a double-edged sword!

As soon as we saw the surge in inquiries we took action to add significantly to our Customer Service team, both on phone support and web/email tickets.  However, it does take a little time to train new staff up to be able to respond to issues, and the fact that the more senior customer service team members needed to spend time training the new members meant that they weren't able to be as effective as they normally are at responding to issues.

In response to that situation we had more senior staff roll up their sleeves to help to clear the backlog. Those of you with open tickets may well have noticed our responses through the Thanksgiving holiday, and we have now caught up to the point where there are no "unassigned" tickets up to Wednesday evening when we officially closed for the holidays.  There are still a number of escalated tickets where additional steps are required to resolve the matter (e.g. if someone made a mistake on their wire transfer such as a misspelling or wrong address, which requires investigation.)  We shall endeavor to be fully caught-up on these as quickly as possible when the offices re-open on Monday.

Finally, we'd like to thank sharpspoon for pointing out that we did not, in fact, delete any of his posts on our forum. We will occasionally move a post if it is in the wrong sub-forum (or should be in a more appropriate sub-forum), and we will, of course, remove any spam that gets through or any content that is illegal/profane/highly offensive - normal forum moderation stuff. But we do not have a policy of censoring free speech.

We hope this goes some way to explain the situation. Of course, actions speak louder than words, so we would hope that sharpspoon will let the community know when he's been in contact with our senior management, and when his issue has been resolved.

Have a happy Rest-Of-Thanksgiving weekend!

Anyone had any luck recently with contacting Cointerra by email/forum/PM/telephone?  I've made several attempts and had no luck.  It also appears they are moderating their forum posts on http://forum.cointerra.com/ which is totally fine by me but at least dedicate a person to moderate them.  It's not like they are dealing with thousands of posts.  Being legit in my book means hiring some extra staff to respond to legitimate customer requests during normal working hours.

they have ignored several emails from me for two weeks now.  prior to my purchase they answered within an hour on several occasions.

Yea, don't know why they don't hire some extra minions Smiley

Hello,
We are experiencing an exceptionally high volume of both phone and email support requests. We are actively training additional support staff, but currently we do have a backlog of emails and voice mails. Our support is staffed for phone support during business hours (Central time) but due to high call volume you may still reach our voice mail at times.

19  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra Tapes out GoldStrike1 ASIC on: November 08, 2013, 10:59:15 PM
Weren't you supposed to tape out in the first week of October???

Does this mean you're one month behind schedule?

EDIT: And... he's gone without answering the most important question of all. LOL. They were online when I posted this reply.

Just tabbed to another window, you sure are fast!

We have been expediting every part of the production and manufacturing process to compensate for the delay in tape out. A lot of preparation was also done based on the feedback from our mock tape out, and these efforts are all to minimize the lead time. We estimate that we are still on schedule for our communicated delivery times.
