Ok we now have a block explorer running at: explorer.cryptonite.info

I have a hosting account with regular websites but am not a tech person and do not know any code stuff. Is it practical for me to consider trying to put it on my host or is it something that requires tech knowledge?
You will need to have cryptonited running on your server and you'll need to set up a cron job. Other than that it's fairly simple.

I was recently informed of this highly misinformed article and thought I should respond to some of the comments made by the author.

Quote
I will be watching this coin in the future, but I am worried that this may mean that the developer gave up on his innovations when the launch did not go as well as he hoped and dumped before deserting.
Let me make something absolutely clear, this coin is not intended to be a pump and dump like 99% of other coins. This project is like my child, it has taken something like 2 years to get the mini-blockchain scheme from a concept into a reality and I would never abandon it. I created the mini-blockchain scheme because I believed that the scalability issue was one of the major factors hindering the long term success of cryptocurrency. I've spent more than 20BTC out of my own pocket to pay for the development of this coin because I truly believe that this scheme will help take cryptocurrency technology to the next level, able to last long into the future and support a high rate of transactions without getting bogged down by a massive blockchain. I was deep in the negative before we even released Cryptonite, and it's extremely unlikely I will ever make all of my money back. I'm not doing this for the money despite what people may think.

Quote
One of their technical innovations is the mini-blockchain scheme which allegedly solves the issue of blockchain bloat by “pruning” old transactions from the network after a long enough time. This allows hashes to finish faster and makes everything generally faster and smoother. It isn’t explained well how this works in practice and though they have a Github, they do not have a white paper.
There is a wiki, a white paper, and a video.

Quote
They also have “withdrawal limits” that limit the amount of coins a user can send from one address and one block. They claim this prevents double spending and increases confidence in low-confirmation transactions (even zero-confirmation transactions) but there is no such thing as creating confidence in low-confirmation transactions. That defeats the whole point of cryptocurrency: verification through anonymous networking.
Actually there is such a thing as creating confidence in low-confirmation transactions, including 0-conf transactions. If the withdrawal limit prevents an address from being emptied in a short amount of time then you can clearly have much more confidence in transactions coming from a limited address. The wiki explains why and how it works in more detail.

Quote
On the other hand, their “about the developers” page might as well not even be there. They only list usernames except for the founder whose name is almost guaranteed to be fake: J.D. Bruce. Why not just say fuck it and go with “John Smith” if you’re going to use a fake name?
Actually that is my real name, well my real initials and my real last name. But even if it wasn't my real name why the hell would it matter? Satoshi is anonymous and Bitcoin is still trusted. Some people like their privacy, deal with it.

Ok block explorer is complete: https://github.com/MiniblockchainProject/MiniExplorer

Keep in mind that you will need the full blockchain for it to work properly. I have uploaded a copy of the blockchain here (it should contain all blocks up to about 85150). The other thing to keep in mind is that it will take quite some time to process the blockchain the first time you run parse_txs.php. I have uploaded some pre-processed db files here. Extract those files into the db folder before you run parse_txs.php. The explorer doesn't have an API yet but I plan to add one. I think we have a VPS server that we can run the explorer on but I would appreciate it if someone else could also run a Cryptonite block explorer.

Here are some screen shots:

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the inc/config.inc.php file needs to be edited after you finish the installation process.

Ok the block explorer is 99% complete, but I've gotta get some sleep so I'll finish off the last few things tomorrow and make sure everything is working smoothly before I upload the source to github. Once again sorry for the delay, the only reason I didn't have it ready today was because I had to optimize some of code I had already written. But it will definitely be released when I return.

seems like we are way off topic.  any news about xcn?
Yes I have some news, the open source block explorer I'm working on is almost finished. I've got to get some sleep now but there's not much left to do so it should be released within 24 hours.

I don't really think it's possible to create a human mineable coin. The problem is you need a PoW algorithm which is hard for bots to solve but easy for humans to solve, but it also needs to be easy for computers to verify the solution. There is no easy way to meet those requirements. The problem space would have to be so huge that a bot wont have any chance at finding a solution by randomly searching for one, but it should be solvable by applying creativity and logic. For example when a programmer is faced with a problem he must apply creativity and logic to write an algorithm which can solve the problem. If he were to randomly try every possible algorithm he would never find a solution, but by applying human reasoning skills he is able to write an algorithm capable of solving the problem. That is the sort of PoW problem required to make a human mineable coin.

what about a captcha type thing? thats easy for humans to solve
The solution cannot be quickly verified by computers unless the solution is already known, but the point of a PoW algorithm is that no one knows the solution until some one finds a solution. The example I gave about the programmer writing an algorithm is a better approach because the solution can be easily verified by a computer, it just needs to run the algorithm and make sure it produces the correct output. The other problem with a captcha approach is that you need a way to decide where the captcha images come from, which requires centralization.

Having problems with wallet crashing, I have done the qt and dll updates, deleted conf file all except wallet dat. Am I missing something?
i am also having problems. did you get this fixed?
It may not work on some Windows machines, not sure why. If you already managed to start it once before then your blockchain or your wallet might be corrupt. Try running -resync or delete the data folder and start fresh. Always make sure to backup your wallet.

polanskiman: I believe Jungian was being sarcastic. Personally I don't see much issue with having an AMD miner available, especially when it's so much slower than the nVidia miners. I personally don't own any nVidia cards, but I buy all my XCN anyway.

1. Progress bar starts to increase and eventually decrease without paying. I wanna make it stay 0% at least until the payment.
If you increase the number of confirmations required in the SCI settings it will never go back to 0%. When it's set to 1 confirmation it has no way to determine the percentage of completion because it either has 0 confs or 1 conf, it's either paid or not paid, so the percentage bar will simply increase based on the average time it takes to solve a block. If the transaction doesn't have 1 conf after that time it goes back to 0%. But if for example you have it set to 2 confs required then when it has 1 conf it knows that it is 50% of the way complete, and it will never jump back to 0%, although it may jump back to 50%. There is no quick way to change this behavior, but take a look at the sci/check-status.php file if you want to modify the behavior.

2. Can't see any products in category even I created some products that's supposed to belong to certain category I created.
Not sure what the issue is, I don't think anyone else has reported that. Make sure you have created the new categories properly and make sure you set the correct category number when creating the product. Send me link to your website if you want me to take a look.

I also keep getting 30+ confirmation and still going.

I get "insufficient funds error"everything I try to send from watch only address. (I provided right private key).
I'm not sure what you mean, how can you send from a watch only address? A common reason the transaction may not complete is because you didn't take fees into account and you're sending slightly less than the required amount.

You probably have the installation directory configured incorrectly (main settings).

If BitShop is installed at www.mysite.com then it should just be set to '/' (without quotes).

If you have it installed at www.mysite.com/bitshop/ then it should be '/bitshop/'.

Ok I made a video as requested earlier in this thread:

Brief Overview of the Mini-Blockchain Scheme

Hope to see the explorer soon, it has taken so long time .
Still waiting for it , any ETA ?
Sorry I've been side tracked with other stuff for the past few days but I should get something released within the next week.

Any coin that uses transaction scripting, which is basically all altcoins, cannot support the mini-blockchain scheme.

Typical, as soon ass AMD farms get involved the price tanks...
Very small trade volume atm.
The price was lower than it is now not that long ago, but I doubt it's going to get that low again.

I doubt it will go any higher if no new development. Yes , its going lower if no new development for long period of time.

Hoping for miracle if not a good strategy.
New binaries were released yesterday, I recently released a web wallet and I'm now working on a block explorer, we're not exactly having no development updates.

I'm not hoping anything, I simply made an analysis based on my trading experience, it bottomed out last time and it will be difficult to reach that bottom again.
