I wish I could start this update by saying we are shipping... but we aren't quite yet. Believe me, it's just as painful for me as it is for everyone else. There's not a lot of update I can give at the moment, things are moving very fast and any information I post right now would be out of date inside of 24 hours.

But a quick summary and bottom line will have to do:

We have gone through several board revisions, moving towards a final revision. I had expected a final rev delivered to KC today, but some last minute resistor adjustments has delayed that until (hopefully) tomorrow (although they may be on the way to KC already). I wish I could convey the level of effort that is required to bring a board and a chip to life, but words just can't do the job justice I'm afraid. There are hundreds if not thousands of little things that need to be attended to that make a board and a chip viable and useful. They are all small things for the most part, but they all add up to a significant investment in time to get right.

So the bottom line is we are very close... I don't know how close. I can put a time frame on it and risk being wrong or I can just say that we are working as fast as we possibly can to make this happen. We absolutely do not want to end up with boards or devices that arrive dead or half functioning or over heating or consuming more power than they should or parts falling off of them (these are all things that could easily happen if we ship bad hardware). I believe we will start shipping any day now ... as soon as we get a board that works to the level we believe is up to our standards of operation, we will have a large quantity of them roll off the line within 24 hours and we'll start the packing and shipping process after that.

I will post a further update tomorrow once I've had a chance to go over in more detail with the engineering team on where we stand as far as the final rev and hopefully I'll have the latest (and last) board in the shop to test."

And today he post this pic on twitter

126  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Butterfly Labs Filling For Bankruptcy in 2014? on: May 18, 2014, 07:52:25 AM
YOU GUYS DONT WAHT TO BELIEVE ME BUT BFL WILL FILE FOR BANKRUPTCY... LETS SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Customers in 24 countries have made 283 complaints to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) against Kansas-based mining equipment maker Butterfly Labs since 2012, as we reported earlier this week.

Since detailed information about notable companies in the bitcoin economy is thin on the ground, CoinDesk wrangled the data on two dimensions – geography and order value – to see what it could tell us.

127  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [CLOSED] CoiningSolutions.com Terraminer IV Shares ฿1.5 = 50GH/s [CLOSED] on: May 16, 2014, 10:00:27 PM
Sell to who?.. Honestly, I don't trust eBay to sell. Too many chargebacks etc., it's a pain and a headache.

Cointerra are selling these brand new for ~$3K, how much are we going to actually sell this for? Ship this for? How much do we all get in the end?

If you guys find or know someone who wants to buy it and make it a fast/smooth deal, then let me know but other than that I just do not have the time to try to sell a crappy unit to someone else.. hence me barely being online this past week or two, real life has been a tad hectic.

Moving forward, fees were dropped down to 50% because TM3 seems to only work half the time, hence half the power. It did earn it's debt over the last week so there are payouts on top of back debt. I'll begin doing payouts on a weekly basis for now.

Thanks for the update Mr. All might and powerful god...

Update from your boy Inabobobboboobobbobobobo :

"I always hesitate to give updates these days because people take what I say as absolute fact and run with it, claiming I made promises I didn't make. Testing has gone well so far and haven't run into any unexpected issues. It's taking a bit longer than I'd like, but I'm still holding out hope for having a working board here in Amsterdam, although it may come a day or two late for the show here, so I may have one in Warsaw and Vienna for demo, but we should be hopefully shipping by then, so it's not as interesting.

I don't know specifically when shipping will start, but it's RSN."

This guy is funny ... cant wait from BFL to go out of business... Cool

ButterflyLabs Customers Appeal to FTC for $1 Million in Missing Orders... I believe BFL is sooon to be extinct ...

Quote:
"Federal penalties possible

The FTC complaints are only the first step in a process that may see Butterfly Labs investigated by law enforcement agencies.

The firm could also face civll penalties imposed by the agency, which is charged with enforcing a variety of antitrust and consumer protection laws, including fraud.

However, there is no guarantee these customer complaints will result in any form of restitution, according to a FTC spokesperson, who told Ars Techina:

“Complaints are used by FTC and partner law enforcement agencies to detect patterns of fraud and abuse, which may lead to investigations and eliminate unfair business practices.”

Update from your boy Inabobo:

I'll concede that the Wikipedia definition is not the definition I was aware of. Seems kind of silly to have the same definition for two different terms (geometric and exponential), but since they are interchangeable, I'll keep that in mind from now on.

"With that in mind, even geometric/exponential growth is not sustainable, as I've already said. You are going to see a decaying % of the network hashrate increase per difficulty period. There will be spikes and troughs, yes, but the overall trend will be decreasing. Four months ago everyone was saying we would see 20 or 30% increases ad infinitum, which was ridiculous. The whole Genesis Block calculator was based on stupidity like that, and led to many incorrect conclusions about mining viability.

At the end of the day, we can throw out a number of these variables anyway, if we make a couple assumptions (dangerous, I know, but since you're here they are probably safe.)

If you're going to mine, it's better to mine with the most efficient hardware as it increases your bottom line. The Monarch is, far and away, the most efficient mining chip on the planet... and the fact that we designed it to scale up or down in the efficiency spectrum depending on the hashrate increases it's viability for mining during down times and cranking up the speed during uptick in BTC prices.

The cost of power is not the only factor in operating a large mining farm. You also have cooling costs and if your farm is large enough, you have staff costs to monitor/R&R the hardware, increasing that .01 or .02c kW/h cost by at least 2x... As difficulty climbs, even the cheapest power places with large farms are going to be turning off the units, and only the most efficient miners will remain. For the most part, everyone in this forum is not a large mining farm... so it doesn't even apply. If you're here and participating in this thread, you are most likely a hobbiest miner and thus paying more expensive electrical rates... so it's even more important that you run the most efficient miner, which, again, the Monarch is and it will allow you to run it much longer than any other miner out here or coming out any time soon."

138  Other / Off-topic / London Police Officers Now Wearing Cameras on: May 09, 2014, 10:23:38 PM
London’s police force will start testing smartphone-sized wearable cameras today, deploying 500 of the devices to record a police-eye view of the city. The Metropolitan Police service is hopeful that the cameras, clipped onto officers’ chests, will aid evidence gathering, said James Hulme, a spokesman for the Met.

The UK is no stranger to surveillance. The country had deployed as many as 5.9 million closed-circuit TV cameras as of last July, according to a survey by the British Security Industry Authority. That’s about one camera for every 11 people
