625  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Call for action - Tell Amazon what we want! on: December 13, 2014, 10:52:11 PM
Amazon knows what we want. With big corporate enterprises like Microsoft accepting BTC it is an inevitability but we need to communicate with them to give them first receiver benefits for company adoption. We should talk with these companies if enough people express interest we cannot -not- suceed.

627  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to keep your bitcoins secure if you suddenly disappear (jail or prison) on: November 17, 2014, 04:44:20 AM
Average guy will gladly pay a fee to have someone else protect his coins. pretty obvious

I've been thinking about launching a service that is akin to offshore paper wallets. But ... maybe I'd have to be a bank of some sort. Otherwise I just operate on reputation alone. Maybe later. I don't know.
Banks generally operate on reputation alone (although they also often rely on the reputation of the government insurance that backs deposits as well).
628  Economy / Economics / Re: Bank Runs in Ukraine. The next Cyprus? on: November 17, 2014, 04:42:59 AM
Did Cyprus really caused the BTC rally before?!  I doubt it.
Yes it did. The reason for the spike in the price of bitcoin when Cyprus was having it's banking issues was that people across europe were afraid that Cyprus's problems would spread throughout europe and other country's banks would institute similar capital restrictions and deposit haircuts.

There is no such risk in the ukraine
629  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin vs. War: Can Bitcoin Reduce Wars? on: November 17, 2014, 04:36:29 AM
Bitcoin can also be bad too as terrorists can move around funds with ease, anonymously.

Sure, Bitcoin and fiat can both be used for good and evil. Fiat can be spent just as anonymously as Bitcoin or more so.

The difference between the two though is with fiat citizens are forced to pay for murder, torture, and terrorism and with Bitcoin states, gangs, terrorists, and corrupt individuals cannot support their unethical actions by socializing those costs across the whole population.
Sure they can. People need to pay taxes with bitcoin related income the same say they need to pay taxes on fiat related income.
630  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ISIS to create own coin. How can we convince to use Bitcoin? on: November 17, 2014, 03:58:48 AM
BTC would probably be a inferior choice to cash, anyway.  It's arguably easier to track where BTC goes than cash, or to shuffle it around in silence.

Yes, they should use Monero instead.
Most altcons (monero included) have too small of a trading volume for the ISIS to effectively be able to deal with as (I assume) they would want to deal in large enough quantities that would cause large movements in the market to be able to tell when they are buying or selling
631  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coindesk: Western Union CIO is mining Bitcoins on: November 17, 2014, 03:27:20 AM
maybe he is a hodler  Tongue
He appears to be mining/holding/using bitcoin in order for his company to better understand bitcoin (as mentioned above).
632  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SilkRoad 2 Taken down by Feds on: November 17, 2014, 03:25:40 AM
Feds will keep playing whack-a-mole with the darknet markets until they move onto something else ...
I disagree. As long as the world is at "war" with the drug trade, law enforcement is going to want to stop the darknet drug markets. The war on drugs has gone on for several decades now and does not appear to be slowing.

How do you disagree? SR gone, SR2 gone, SR3 is next...history repeats itself.
I don't think that law enforcement is going to move onto something else.

I don't think they are going to give up on the war on drugs
633  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just starting (5 years later) question about wallets on: November 17, 2014, 03:23:42 AM
So I have minimal experience with computers and economics.  What could go wrong?
Hahah.
Anyway I have a few questions
I got a wallet through coin base bc they gave me a dollar.  I put 20 from my bank acct into it so that was fun.  I do have a few questions:
1.  Do accounts gain interest?
2.  Are there really only going to be 21 million?  What happens when they're all mined out .
3.  How many have been mined so far?
4.  How does one get them besides mining?  Just through selling goods/services?
5.  I have the idea of what a faucet is.  Are there any good ones?

Anyway. I'm a town worker and scuba instructor in central connecticut. Any advice is appreciated.

1. No accounts do not "gain" interest. This is different then how traditional banks work. If you really wanted to receive interest on your bitcoin you could deposit your money onto an exchange like bitfinex, however your money would be less safe then if you controlled your private keys.

2. Yes, no more bitcoin will be able to be mined once 21 million have been mined. Once all the bitcoin has been mined then the miners will no longer receive any kind of block subsidy (their reward by the network for finding a block) and will rely on only TX fees (what is paid to the miners in order to have a transaction confirmed)

4. The same way that you just acquired bitcoin, on an exchange (or a site similar to coinbase which is technically not an exchange), or by selling their goods/services for bitcoin

5. No. I would recommend you stay away from faucets. The amount that you receive is very small compared to the time required to "put into" them in order to receive funds.

635  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dear Would Be Drug Marketplace Operators on: November 06, 2014, 11:19:09 PM
Actually they caught this guy by becoming apart of the site's support staff, so it had nothing to do with computers or anything it was really old fashion cop work. Go undercover and becoming one of them.

Are u sure ? Because I read that they got Defcon's IP from Google as he used Gmail for some registrations.
It was both. There was an undercover agent that was a staff member of SR2, but they likely used some kind of advanced tracking to find the SR2 server. The complaint really did not go into how they found the server, only that they found it back in may.

According to the complaint, the FBI was able to identify Benthall as Silk Road 2.0's operator partially due to IP logs given to them by Google, with which Benthall had a Gmail address.

Roll Eyes Always seems to be silly mistakes that get them taken down.

Silly mistakes? This is exactly how Ross was caught. You would think that he wouldn't make the exact same mistake.....He used an email address that was blake@benthall.com to sign up for the hosting of the servers of SR2.

IMO that is not a mistake, that is asking to get caught

OP does have a point, Satoshi did walk away the moment Gavin accepted the invitation to speak with the CIA. Coincidence?

YES THAT WAS TOTALLY AND COMPLEETLY A COINCEDENCE!!!! HE WUZ PLANNING ON LEAVING WAY BEFORE THAT!

I THINK THE OP IS RIGHT, SO I'M GONNA MOVE THE SOURCE CODE TO SUMPLACE MORE SECURE WHERE THE GOVERNMENT CAN'T SEE IT ANYMORE. AND I WENT AND GOT ME A GOOD HAT TO WEAR WHEN I WRITE CODE SO THEIR SATELITES CANT HEAR ME EITHER.

FOR THE CHILDREN!
Is this the real Gavin?  Maybe someone hacked his account.  I didn't expect that he had a sense of humor.  Too much stress to still be funny.  can anyone confirm?
He is being sarcastic. He is trying to get across a point that having bitcoin be open source is much better then it be closed source and the government not have access to information about bitcoin
638  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: That moment.... on: November 06, 2014, 05:47:43 AM
Try using a password recovery service (make or search for a thread in the services section). That would be useful if you have a little idea about the password?
This will only work if you are fairly certain as to what a portion of the password is (or if you know what letters are in the password for example). If you have no clue what you set the password as then you are really SOL, as there is no realistic way to recover your money
639  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tech Giant Google Installs Bitcoin ATM in London Campus on: November 06, 2014, 05:45:36 AM
where does it say that google has installed it?
I can't see any relationship with google

You're totally right, this is poor journalism again, now everyone tells that Google installed the machine, however they didn't.
But it was actually installed by BitBuddy, who operates it.

It is located in the workspace, which was organized in 2012 by Google for new startups, but this is just a location and connection to Google as a company is really weak.
Well the machines will likely still attract the business and interest of google employees who can potentially do something good with bitcoin
640  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What are the best ways to earn btc? on: November 06, 2014, 05:43:28 AM
I am familiar with bitcoin and have been for a while now but now im really taking intrigue in the possibilities of profit and future speculation so saying that I am looking for the most popular ways people earn bitcoins online and how to start to accumulate bitcoins

1.  Buy low and sell high (trade)
2.  Sell goods or services for bitcoin
3.  Scam coins from others
4.  Participate in signature campaigns
number 4 is probably the best way to go (despite the fact that there are very few of them today). Signature campaigns will allow you to learn about bitcoin via posting and reading on here while advertising the good/services that the OP of the campaign is trying to advertise
