401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: October 22, 2014, 10:01:32 AM
It is a shame that competitors whose existence is 100 % thanks to counterparty are arguing against counterparty (on XCP thread by the way).
402  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: October 15, 2014, 04:46:42 PM
Thank you for all of the replies. Yes, I came away with the same general consensus as you all seem to present. I wanted to ask the questions straight though so as not to influence the outcome.

Yes, FinCen could be a problem for the coin space depending on a million factors. It would probably be best to just wait for November 4th to see what kind of gems are announced. I am still confused on "6 companies in BTC to be handed enforcement actions" and what that means precisely, but I suppose we will all know soon enough.

Anyway, thank you again. And if anyone has any other insights on using the XCP system to bring out a coin (token), it would be much appreciated. It does seem to be a great option and more attractive than say, Ripple or NEXT (or at least it appears that way thus far). Let's hope FinCen is kind! Cheesy

Joel from Swarm created a document that compiled many of the answers he found in his search a few months ago. Even in that short a time, much has probably changed, but that document is probably still going to be of at least some value to you. Swarm has a thread here on BCT that may have a link to the Google document. If there is no link, just PM the OP of the Swarm thread and that will be Joel. He'll be able to send you a link. Joel may be able to provide additional insight as well, since Swarm is in the business of launching coins and such.

By the way, Overstock hired lawyers and anticipated regulation for Counterparty / Medici. One step ahead.

It is time to buy DRK @ 0.0051
See you in 3 weeks.
404  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] Darkcoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | Darksend Is Live! on: October 14, 2014, 06:38:10 PM
Price is going down :

- There are too many coins. People don't read specs and features anymore.
- As soon as there is a pump, people automatically think it will dump after, whatever the reason of the pump.
- People blindly follows twitter to make choices. Twitter hypes only new (shit)coins.
- There are more and more bots and every bot I know, have, or backtest have sold at theses prices, ans still are not planning to buy.

There is very little to do against these 4 points. So expect again 0,0055 soon. I am not saying it is "fair" price. I am a big DRK supporter since first days (I feel obliged to repeat it everytime I am saying something bad about prices), but market is always right, however strange it sounds.

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT Huh

GET THE FUCK OUT ! ! !

If you KNOW BOTS - you really need to find some friends

WTF ?!?!?!??!

Don't tell I didn't warn everybody...Prices were @ 0.009
405  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: October 08, 2014, 06:03:35 PM
2. It's going to be built on Counterparty and as part of the Counterparty platform.

On Counterparty network or on Counterparty code?

On the Counterparty network. Not a fork. As much a part of Counterparty as possible.

Is there a link to words of Patrick Byrne regaring this issue? People that know how business is done won't believe that a CEO agrees to lose even a small part of the control they have. For XCP holders it may mean only 2 things:

1. Patrick will buy 99% of all XCP to remove even a small chance that other XCP holders could manipulate the market.
2. XCP won't affect Medici at all and hence will be unusable here, more likely trades will be done directly in BTC and in the best case XCP will be used to pay transaction fee (subject to 7 tx/sec limit).

Phantom addressed this earlier in the thread. Search the last few pages or so and you'll find it.

1. Wouldn't he need to do the same for dollars then?
2. It's easier to use XCP on the DEx. Transaction fees on the Bitcoin network cannot be paid in XCP.

Regarding the first point, Overstock buying 99% of XCP, or at least a very good stake :

1/ Why wouldn't Patrick Byrne buy every XCP possible, especially weeks before Medici is released, or before a new issuance. Others companies are planned, he will be the first to know, and the more documented.
Did you notice that every XCP under 0.0050 have been bought last weeks ? I can't see any rational argument against Overstock accumulating XCP.

2/ It is not the same as buying dollars. XCP supply is limited and deflationary, on contrary of Dollar. BTC comparing to XCP is a better comparison, and obviously, it was right to buy BTC in the earlier stages.

3/ He said he would create a multi-billion company, as big as Alibaba. As somebody wrote, with this kind of ambition, I would hazard nothing.

The real hurdle is that liquidity is low, so buying a minor stake could cost a huge amount.
Furthermore, the only (honnest) way to buy at cheapest prices under the radar, is to release no significant news for weeks.
406  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: October 07, 2014, 03:05:26 PM
Everybody, there is an enormous amount of misinformation going around in the press. We're working to fix that ASAP. In the meantime, please help us correct errors as you see them!

For the record:

1) Overstock.com and Counterparty are partnering to build a platform (Medici) for trading stocks on Counterparty and using Counterparty's decentralized exchange.

2) I, along with Ouziel (JahPowerBit), will continue working on the Counterparty protocol full-time. Robby and Evan will continue to work on Counterparty full-time because Medici is a front-end for Counterparty.

The Wired and Coindesk articles make it sound as though we are abandoning this project. Nothing could be further from the truth!

Thank you,
Adam

Ok, everything is very clear !

I am supposing Patrick Byrne couldn't really tell shareholders than Overstock will directly support something with millions they won't own and pay devs with huge income who are in fact working full-time for an open-source project.

He has no choice (at the moment) to say they are pioneering alone a stock exchange, even if the reality is just a business with fees like banks, as Patrick Byrne said, and a front-end which is already almost done and which will be directly benefit Counterparty.

What do you think ?

407  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: October 07, 2014, 09:05:22 AM
What benefits will get Overstock by doing the front end?

They will probably want to take fees on every transactions, isn't it?

"After spinning off from Overstock, Byrne says, the company behind this project will help other businesses take their companies public and juggle transactions. The intention is to charge about 20 percent or less of what Wall Street banks charge for similar services today."
408  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: October 07, 2014, 08:48:08 AM
Some reasons why XCP has value:

1) Trading with XCP on the distributed exchange is (and always will be) cheaper and faster than with BTC.

2) You can use only XCP for making bets, CFDs and asset callbacks. Forthcoming complex features and financial instruments will also likely be restricted to denomination in XCP.

3) All future proof-of-stake voting, e.g. for protocol changes, voting functionality, DACs, etc. will be determined by XCP holdings.

XCP is the native currency of Counterparty and its sole first-class citizen. If the Counterparty protocol has great value (as I'm sure that it does), then so does XCP.
409  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: October 07, 2014, 08:31:47 AM
1/ Just to remind everybody that XCP ("the coin") is more convenient (cheaper and faster + voting rights) than BTC int the protocol.

The natural and logical consequence of counterparty adoption, and dev's vision, is that XCP replace BTC as main currency in the protocol (so in Wall Street and global finance), when Counterparty still relying on BTC blockchain.

XCP is only 2-3 $, and trading for 8 months at these cheap prices. Most burners ("early investors") haven't sold in 8 months time (whatever the experimented fudd) and always told they won't sell at least under 100$, what is still very low compared with BTC marketcap.

2/ Devs have perfectly followed the road map in the last months.

The future is still clear :
- Counterparty leads the way and is the standard for assets and others financial instruments.
- meanwhile, the next bubble will be in crypto 2.0, forget altcoins.
- XCP will "replace" BTC in finance.

It is just a remind for posterity, when XCP will go mainstream in Finance, and people complaining XCP is unaffordable. The future have been obvious for months, and the path is strictly the same that earliest bitcoiners have known. Like bitcoin in recent stages, the next fight for xcp is regulatory issues or SEC acceptance (By the way, this point has been already anticipated and studied by lawyers ).

I don't see other coins, assets or instrument which could make you millionaire...It is a extremely serious fault not to invest now in XCP, and hold. Don't say in the future you didn't know.
410  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: October 07, 2014, 07:31:01 AM
As an explanation, what this means is that Overstock.com has committed to using Counterparty as the platform for issuing securities on the Bitcoin blockchain, e.g. for public companies, over all other Bitcoin 2.0 tech. Robby (xnova) and Evan (cityglut) will be working on that particular goal, because of their expertise with Counterparty, even as we hire more developers to work with me full-time on the core protocol and ecosystem.
Thanks Adam for those clarifications!

So will that Overstock system be more like a public frontend other companies that want to go public or "dual list" their shares can use or will it be a non public enterprise version of Counterparty?

Remains the question: And XCP will have the same functions and value in that Overstock-System?

It'll be a frontend to the existing network, and it'll use XCP like everything else.

Congrats to dev for their visions ! I remember when devs have to pay from their own pockets after a hack 6 months ago.

People where complaining that we've burned and destroyed sacred BTC or even we were bloating the blockchain with 0.01% more data...Now Counterparty is becoming the next financial standard and a Nasdaq Cie will choose Counterparty to issue stocks, and I suppose dividends...
412  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: October 06, 2014, 10:19:57 PM
The next mega-bubble will start with crypto 2.0, especially XCP, not BTC or altcoins...
It is only the beginning.

The armchair Columbo's are onto the stamp bearwhale courtesy of Bitcoin's blockchain transparency. There was speculation that it was Tim Draper (who bought the Fed auctioned coins) but it isn't.

Transaction that sent the coins to the exchange: https://blockchain.info/address/1JX5hS3HyVT3VwnEgvoPLVu6ujPFH7BvrY

Largest chunk of ~18,000BTC came from this wallet

History of BTC coming into this address

Are there any known exchange addresses? It would be nice to keep track of the big confirmation heading their way - like a heads-up the price as its about to hit the skids.

I guess that's why Dark Pools have been so popular on the mainstream stock exchanges.
Someone should send Darkcoin info in a microtransaction to that address, maybe he like to invest a few million Wink

Every bitcoin address should receive a micro-transaction and message like "Anyone can see the purchases you did for the rest of your life" :-)

Counterparty or Auroracoin went largely over 100 M$ marketcap in the first days. No reason to sell at only 2-3 M$ marketcap !!

With BTC and altcoins crashing, CKC holders are the only ones currently earning money in the cryptosphere.

The first asks are only 2 times the ICO price (0.000206). Good entry point.

I prefer to wait 60 hours and see x10 rise, than wait 1h and a dump.

Seems reddit is getting into the cryptosecurity game. Wouldn't Counterparty be the best option for this? http://techcrunch.com/2014/09/30/reddit-scoops-up-50m-series-b-from-sam-altman-a16z-sequoia-at-500m-valuation/
Either theyll use Counterparty or run into high development costs or unforeseen problems (such as centralization). Interested to see this play out.

It mentions Counterparty
419  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [SFR] SaffronCoin | Decentralized Market, Exchange, Email on: September 30, 2014, 10:17:25 AM
big dump,it is dying?

Coin holders fight, the dev too nice -> people dump. Enjoy your cheap SFR in the mean time.

Obvious answer to the poll / no free shares -> no reason to be in the elite club / best members feel deceived -> dump and no more buy pressure to join this elite club.

Like almost every experimented members have said in the last posts, and because of trolls whining in their sofa that life is unfair - they win, SFR loses.

But anyway, SFR is still and largely the most undervalued coin, so I am feeling pretty good with theses prices.
