221  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New Cryptocurrency Backed By Gold To Be Launched In Singapore on: October 26, 2016, 11:18:52 AM
A new cryptocurrency backed by gold, named “Copernicus Gold”, is due to be launched in Singapore at the beginning of 2017.

The project was first announced by Russian banker Vladimir Frolov in Summer 2015. According to the idea of developers, this new currency and its payment system based on Blockchain technology should be an alternative to SWIFT payments, which are currently used by more than 11,000 banks and financial companies worldwide.

Interesting. Based in Singapore is a plus. Details of Gold storage would be good as would issuance details.

Could be a good alternative to Ƀ and gold bars as an investment. However, following a big shock one would always feel safer with the actual bars/coins in hand!  Grin
222  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bytecoin Mining on: October 25, 2016, 11:52:45 AM
Market Cap is doubled recently - probably accounts for the hash increase.

Also they have a daemon specially geared towards RPC transactions (In fact it's called the RPC wallet) and are targeting online/POS transactions with this.

It's easy to get a few thousand using a modest CPU on Minergate. Minergate makes it too  Grin easy to mine a few coins on a system that is either redundant or just used for low intensive stuff like bind or squid.

This is an interesting project but I think that the name will bring problems and negativity if it gains wider adoption and a high market cap.

The name was cool and down with the kids in the summer of '14 - but times change and it is rather old fashioned and a drag on adoption.

Why not change the name to, say Mercury [MRC]?
224  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining on a cell phone on: October 21, 2016, 03:22:36 PM
So I recently purchased a smart phone.  Should I be tapping into it's single core processor to get some more coins?  I'm sure it's not very cost effective, but just out of curiousity, has anyone tried this?

Is there anyone who has used a cell phone to mine one of the cpu mining chains?

Single core processor? What is it? A Google G1?  Grin

Some advice. Do not do any mining on a phone, tablet or laptop. They always cut corners on thermal dissipation (they usually have to for size constraints and often to cut $ costs). They just will not survive sustained 100% CPU or GPU activity for any reasonable length of time. The only exception would be maybe an old phone (not single core) - you could use 1 of the cores to keep a blockchain alive that you are rescuing from abandonment or a new one that isn't mined in the wild yet.
225  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Zcash? on: October 21, 2016, 10:18:39 AM

Have you actually managed to implement Z cash mining on these FPGAs?

I would hope so! After all he says he modified 320 LX150's!  Grin

They be (XC6SLX150-2FGG484C) $165 on Digi-key and then you need the DDR3, PSU's, Glue.
484 pins PGA - doubt you'd want to bake more than 4 of these to each board.

That's a lot of money for Skynet, let alone the Leader of the Resistance!  Tongue
226  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: RISE | Building Multi-Language App Development Environments on: October 19, 2016, 08:58:23 AM

Both SDK releases are alpha-versions. Test feedback is appreciated. Documentation for both will be added tomorrow.

How does one join the slack? The links appear to be out. Unless the testing is being coordinated elsewhere, of course!
227  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Coval is a loyalty points platform. Why has it taken so long for crypto? on: October 19, 2016, 08:26:40 AM
Devi will not answer tweets. I do not see any replies on the forums .

I think I am right in saying that the devs are not interested in marketing or reassuring & hand holding at this time. They are also not interested in pumps and dumps.
228  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What really makes the altcoins price rise or go down? on: October 18, 2016, 09:38:26 AM
What really makes the altcoins price rise or go down?

In the absence of hype/FUD based on credible fundamentals, Whales.

Is the developer can control their coin's price?

They can make it rise if they are BTC Whales.
They can make it drop if they are large XYZ Coin bag-holders.
229  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: WAVES. Ultimate crypto-tokens blockchain platform. on: October 16, 2016, 08:39:13 PM
Is it possible to create assets already on waves platform?

Assets are on the testnet from 0.3.0 on. Think they will be on the upcoming main-net release - Incent wants them for one.
230  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [THREAD FOR ALTCOIN IDEAS] on: October 16, 2016, 02:35:48 PM
Idea #7

Blockchain pruning/scalability

In addition to POW nodes or staking nodes you could have archive nodes which are themselves POW or Staking.
Every so often (at a predetermined block counts) a snapshot of the Blockchain state is taken and is used by archive nodes to start the next chain with the new genesis block. The network would ensure that the last designated block would have to be won by an archive node and the winning archive node could get a super reward for this. Or the reward could be split into shares and distributed according to how much work archive nodes have contributed over the lifetime of the old chain. If the snapshot and genesis generated by the winning archive node is disputed by 51% of the archive nodes on the network then the last block will be up for grabs again. Blocks, other than the first or last block on a chain are verified by all nodes that are POW or staking.
Archive nodes are able to store the blockchains older than x iterations to BD media or similar. Archive nodes cannot validate with the network unless they have local realtime access to ALL previous chains on whatever local media. (So the disks or BD must remain online).  Archive nodes enjoy enhanced POW or Staking rewards during normal block creation. Archive nodes can offer full blockchain analytics and searches via web or api services for a fee.

The aim would be to keep each blockchain to a size manageable by modest platforms including SBCs - say 8GB but allowing vastly greater block sizes or frequencies.

At least we have a good naming convention

I think that digital property rights should be brought down, like all forms of intellectual property rights.
Forbidding people to share information goes against the deepest forms of human interaction.
(thinking that having fun with sex is a sin, does so too BTW...)

How do you suggest that musicians, song writers, designers and others make a living? Why should people bother innovating? Open source and royalty free are great and have their uses and benefits but they cannot be the whole story.

I for one am quite happy to pay 1$ for a track, or 10$ for a 3d design etc.

What we should ensure is that there is a functioning market for IP. Not one that exists currently for the benefit of monopolists and cronies.
234  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: >>> ATTENTION: PRICE SPECULATION DISCUSSIONS DO NOT BELONG HERE <<< on: October 12, 2016, 10:57:57 AM
this is a great idea. but i think that in every topic the price will be discussed sooner or later.
so i think i only depends on the subject of the topic.

Possibly true, but I think mprep means thread titles and OP's - at least that's what I am guessing.  Smiley
235  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone else try to login to ripple and notice there is no more login page? on: October 12, 2016, 10:05:50 AM

Then you have to try and fill out some migration form that does not accept your old user and pass.

Contact ripple.... no reply.

When did they remove the login part from their website?

Indeed. You had to migrate to a third party wallet ages ago and several emails were sent by Ripple urging people to migrate with dire consequences if they didn't.

Only chance you have is if you have your private key for Ripple Trade.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Ripple/comments/4iomte/i_created_a_ripple_wallet_almost_3_years_ago_how/

So unless you have your private key then all the ripples are lost? this is quite terrible.

could they track my ripple account by my transactions from bitstamp sending ripple to my ripple account?

I'm sure i put several hundred dollars worth there a few years back.

Indeed - but many of us have been there and feel your pain.  Wink
Usually it is the result of missed time-limited migrations to another blockchain but I think an earlier poster was right in saying that Ripple had to divest themselves of individual end users.

Please let us know if you get any joy - it could help others in the same situation.

238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How do i get my DAO ether back ? on: October 07, 2016, 12:51:17 PM
I stuck a few ether into The Dao,  in the last week and so paid more then 1 for 1.  how do i get this back?  i heard there is a contract but i also heard that they would just be paid back the address that sent them?  what is true?

I thought the whole point of the hard fork was that DAO ICO funds were returned to the ETH wallets as opposed to ETC where they went to the hacker.  Cool
239  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: waves is becoming more professional!! on: October 07, 2016, 11:56:42 AM
Waves may be becoming more professional but it still lacks the most important ingredient in a cyptocoin platform. Running full nodes that validate the transactions. What will looking "more professional" give you if you do not have a running blockchain?

I guess they have learned the lessons from Ethereum/DAO and are not trying to run before they can walk. Most serious investors and partners prefer that approach.

That is what a bagholder would say. My speculation is that they cannot make the Scorex code base run correctly in practice. The proper way for an ICO is to have a proof of concept like Ethereum did. Did Waves have a Proof of Concept before they started their ICO?

And what bag-holdings inform your 'speculation'?  Cheesy
