181  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Hacker group shuns Bitcoin on: June 07, 2017, 09:02:55 AM

There is a brief overview here;

By the tone of the latest blog it looks like gateways themselves are not far away.  Cheesy

It's not real until you sell it and withdraw into fiat. I've withdrawn $250,000 so far in my crypto adventures and still have $200,000 worth of cryptos.

That's true. Back in the days I was mining 130-150 Million TIPS with just 6 GPU's. .......

I'm not exactly like Laszlo and his pizzas, but still... Smiley Now I have a few favorites, but future will tell...

Well, you are still here and still a survivor!

I sold 20million BCN last year and we all saw that pump!  Cheesy Back in the day when I was furiously mining them on GPU I took the dogs for a walk and when I returned 1 of my rigs was proper on fire!  Grin I always kept a couple of fire extinguishers handy after that - and my main thought was 'thank the lord!' it was just the PSU and a crappy gigabyte MB that got smoked!

I'm glad you still have your favorites and are a paid up member of the survivors club! Good luck, my friend.

Bitstamp has been holding out as an exclusively BTC exchange for years. Finally adopting LTC (early in June, likely later this week or early next). Will add ETH later. As the largest European BTC exchange (2016) this is good news.

I think that the days of folk hanging on to the words and whims of centralised and private exchanges are rapidly coming to an end.

Decentralised exchanges, like for example the Waves DEX, along with trusted off-chain and fiat gateways, will make this kind of issue and talk appear very quaint soon. It is a sad reflection on the moribund state of Bitcoin development which, if it doesn't change, will suddenly and brutally consign ฿ to be an irrelevance (for payment transactions if not a store of wealth) if they are not careful.
184  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: crypto's passed $100 billions mark... on: June 06, 2017, 01:21:40 PM
Before growing much further, I am expecting a big correction. Investors will pull out their profit in fiat which can lead to bigger dump in price of alts. But as we already know after every correction there will be bigger pump ahead.

I think there will be corrections along the way. After all, cryptos are a welcome and, these days, rare example of a fully functioning market. However I think the bull has way, way further to go before cryptos reach Tulip bubble status. After all, they are useful in disrupting inefficient industries and raising productivity.

Available Gold is estimated to be worth $28.6 trillion according to this graphic that also shows Bitcoin and fiat money supply capitalisation graphics;

http://money.visualcapitalist.com/all-of-the-worlds-money-and-markets-in-one-visualization/

What do we think will happen to the net worth of crypto if blockchain technology turns out to be one hundredth as useful as gold?

Take a look at crypto like Etherium, Waves etc - this is only just the start. We are in the same place as folk who lent Larry Page and Sergey Brin money back in '98.

186  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How do people get together for altcoin projects? on: April 30, 2017, 12:42:26 PM
How do people find together to start a new project? New projects and ICOs have nowadays usually 5 or more people (developers, consultants, marketing guys, lawyers, ...) from the beginning. They have to get together somehow. How does this happen?

My guess is;

  • They previously worked together on a prior Alt project
  • Someone has a really good beta project or an idea for a whitepaper and they have a fairly extensive existing people network in place already
  • Someone has a really good beta project or an idea for a whitepaper and they tout for team members in existing teams, on linkedin and even on bitcointalk
187  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why does the mainstream media ignore altcoins? on: April 30, 2017, 12:36:53 PM
If the altcoin industry is now a multi-billion dollar industry then why doesn't the media treat it like one?

I can pretty much explain to people not knowledgeable about Bitcoin what it is and in layman terms how it works so they 'get it'.

When you try and talk about Alts and explain that some are like Bitcoin but are not Bitcoin or even terms like contracts on the blockchain, tokens, POS, platforms etc I never fail to see their eyes glaze over and look bewildered and/or bored. I sometimes manage to get over the concept of coins like XMR or ZCASH - they can understand the difference between public and private blockchain info.

I think this is the issue with 'mainstream media'.

However, there are platforms out there on the cusp of providing genuine, disruptive offerings with mass reach and mass appeal - as with biometric scanning, VR headsets and AI the 'mainstream media' will scream and shout about it then. Don't plan on the media shouting about the platform you researched to be the best out there - it's not rational or coherent.
188  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Polo To Face Class Action Suit on: April 30, 2017, 12:19:09 PM
I think that the lesson to be learned, here, is do not hold, in meaningful quantities, crypto that is listed on only one exchange (No matter how big and what volume) - unless that crypto is, itself, capable of exchange on the blockchain - e.g. Waves, NXT etc.
189  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which altcoin is the most undervalued right now? (list) on: April 30, 2017, 12:10:58 PM

Waves reminds me of Ethereum in Jan 2016 when it was under 1$.

  • Very strong development team and organisational infrastucture
  • Was a successful ICO
  • Not just a Coin/Blockchain but a platform
  • Big and serious projects were launching within the platform whilst at the same time the platform was open for all to use
  • Accumulation phase was extended
  • Tech, itself was solid (even if the famous DAO came a cropper!)
  • Team tirelessly working towards scale, mass adoption and commercial relevance

If anything Waves looks like it could surpass the success of Ethereum given the diligence and rapid development shown by the architects - all the key components are being rolled out carefully and safely. The team are very adept at marketing and networking and, unusually for a large project, appear to have swapped the large egos for passion and enthusiasm for the tech and real world applications.

However, there are other good projects out there - I think the key advice is to research, research, research and not hold all your eggs in one basket.
190  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Waves Platform [WAVES] - Featured on Nasdaq News on: December 04, 2016, 09:30:25 PM
Well, hopefully these authors are not simply selling their "opinion" to the highest bidder,
but nothing would surprise me.

It would be hard to resist selling out, because the authors on these sites probably don't make a lot of money.
Imagine you were making $15,000 a year from your website articles, and some developer offered you $1500 to promote their coin.
Turning down 10% of your yearly salary to write one article might be difficult.
everything is money my friend, including opinion.
if you are a well known writer, people will ask you to review their product and i'm pretty sure you will do a good review if they pay enough.

Still valid tho, it's not like they are lying to sell... and like @glerant said, people need to make their own mind, do some research before put some money.

Someone was paying people to give good reviews of counterfeit apple products sold on amazon. Not one of those reviews was bad but the products were often defective. Those paid to give the reviews didn't know or care anything about the quality of the products they were reviewing. They weren't lying to sell, they were giving good reviews because someone was paying them to. Their reviews weren't valid, and those opinion pieces are invalid for the same reason, their authors were getting paid to give a good opinion.

Lets leave engadget for now.

Are you really saying that you are comparing some random reviewers leaving some paid reviews on Amazon for tat with a News piece on the official Nasdaq site? Really?
191  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto 2.0 - Nasdaq fancies the Waves Platform [WAVES] on: December 04, 2016, 01:32:05 PM
This is an opinion piece from due.com. The disclaimer in the article states:

"The views and opinions expressed herein are the views and opinions of the author and do not necessarily reflect those of Nasdaq, Inc."

This is a typical way to mislead people on this forum.

Not at all. People should do research and make up their own minds. This is a crypto forum not the BBC World News! The lady protest too much, methinks! However I have changed the thread title to reflect your concern.

While we are at it. Here is another 'Opinion piece' featured in Engadget!

192  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Waves Platform [WAVES] - Featured on Nasdaq News on: December 01, 2016, 02:38:34 PM
From Nasdaq.Com: News

Quote
The Waves platform , for example, was designed to bridge the gap between the complexities of the 21st century monetary system and the blockchain, as well as allowing new financial instruments like gold and silver on the blockchain, and much else besides.

Thus blockchain won’t necessarily replace money as we know it. But it will make it more like money should be and needs to be in order to work as it was originally conceived.

btw - How do you select a size for the T-shirt to order. I am definitely in the xxl category!  Cheesy

Incent ICO is into it's last week.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1610052.0

The first, universal merchant-backed loyalty platform.

Estimated worth of the current US loyalty-rewards industry is $65Bn and projections out to 2020 see this building to $100Bn.

That's only US loyalty Industry and Incent is a World-wide offering!  Cheesy

To date, most quality ICO's see a huge uptake of investors at the end of the ICO - However the Incent team will be doing a 'Black Friday' bonus and this is probably the last chance to participate over the current 6000/BTC price - like many others I was waiting until the end but for the sake of a few days will check out tomorrow's bonus!

195  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: WAVES. Ultimate crypto-tokens blockchain platform. on: November 20, 2016, 03:27:48 PM
I wonder how many people will get banned from Slack again. They deserve it ! *sarcasm*

Well, Marousi was asking the same question on an hourly basis during FN testing - don't know if he got banned, though.

Etherium took 6 months after initial pump to jump to it's $billion cap. 6 months of accumulation opportunity. And it only has one DAPP that anyone ever heard of, DAO - which didn't end well apart from testing the ETH mainnet blockchain to destruction. Not only are the Waves team seeking to avoid that, there will also be big projects built on Waves that will be famous in crypto.

Just sayin'.
196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: WAVES. Ultimate crypto-tokens blockchain platform. on: November 19, 2016, 02:32:01 PM
Asset creation is live. You can already create assets on the Waves platform via Swagger. Next week it will be more user friendly after integration into the Lite Wallet UI.

i think no one will believe such news anymore. you can add whatever feature to that waves platform but i think it will fail now that there is a platform better than waves. ibet you already heard of ICONOMI where users can also create assets and fiat integration as well.

ICOMOMI looks like a good project. However it is in a different cryptofin space to WAVES. They are not really in competition. The nearest competitor to WAVES is Ardor which has a similar, if not more distant development cycle. I look forward to the potential of all these projects.

Isn't ARdor also a nxtproject which sasha is also involved?

I have been a supporter of waves since the start and saw the whole project crumbles every now and then because of the team that keeps manipulating the shit.
tokens and coins weren't that affected much when btc was pumped last night but waves were dumped massively. wth?
they are manipulating this shit themselves. greedy devs wants to get rich all by themselves.

I think Sasha did coinomat exchange but I seem to remember someone saying that he got involved in Next as well.

I think if you come on here and check exchanges and troll boxes you get a different impression than if you get involved in slack, testing and extending. My impression is that the devs and founders have been working very hard, very reactive and, especially the devs, don't ever look here or check market price.

They are definitely investing ICO wisely, from the impression I get, and if the devs get rich we all get rich at the present Waves/$ valuation. More startups are intending to use Waves and the journeys they take strengthen Waves, ultimately, in value and expertise.

I think what I am trying to say  Smiley is that, if you are a long time supporter of Waves, now is the time to get excited about the future.

So, now when full node is released, how do we mine waves? Anyone knows...?

https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/guides/how-to-mine-waves/

Waves is a POS coin, I don't think the term mining used is technically correct, it should be Staking or forging

Thank you for explaining the semantics. Now, how do we mine/stake/forge/extract/excavate Waves...?

Thats for rich and very tech people, you need to set up a node, and wait for DLPos Start, people need to vote for you, and you need 200k Waves, or something, you should ask Twiggy Smile for an invitation to Slack channel. Read more about DLPos coins. People can "leasing" you Waves, but they need to trust in you, of course you cant use the Waves "leased"

how much do you think is the minimum amount of waves to lease for someone who wants to forge? I'm planing to lease mine to him Smiley whoever he is of course he should be trusted here in the community.

This means that the max supply of waves will increase right?

I believe that the figure for minimum staking being proposed was 10kW as a compromise between network resilience and accessibility to staking. At the time of Full Node release, this will be POS. LPOS will come later and will let people lease to a hot node with 1 real coin and 10kW leased coins to fulfill minimum stake requirements.

The POS is distributing fees only so I don't anticipate inflation. All this is just stuff I heard from Slack - so don't rely 100%  Smiley
199  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Zcash worth to invest in it? on: November 17, 2016, 02:17:45 PM
Besides, 6 gatekeepers, if acted together can make unknown amount of ZEC, unknowingly.

I know there is an element of trust in the setup. It helps that at least one party is an outsider but is previously known. I was under the impression that the setup relied on the parties destroying and not knowing private keys, all of which are needed to compromise the trust - so they can't meet up in ten years, when zcash is ubiquitous, and decide to print money to give to banksters and elites (unlike the bullshit we get with fiat currencies).
