1  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INFO] Topps Allen & Ginter Reference Thread on: August 04, 2020, 02:36:01 PM
Looking at geophphreigh's post maybe it could be the glossy 1/1. The OP reference post could have been a mistake with the handwritten part but we will wait for the experts to come chime in. Would be nice to see a standard #83 beside this card to be able to make the call. I do believe we have people that have open communication channels with Topps and they could confirm.

The fact that the mini 1/1 glossy is written in pen still looks fish for this card though.

I have updated the OP to reflect the fact that the standard glossy is not handwritten.  Not sure where I got the info from originally, but seeing other examples on ebay with the typed 1/1 looks valid along with this card's PSA authenticity.  I have also included this card in the OP.  Congrats to bucksbuck on such a rare find!

Hell of a find!  I'd say it's worth at least $500 (for insurance or loss), maybe more.  But there's only one way to find out, and that's to see what one auctions for.

Beautiful coin.

By the way, is it possible to give someone negative merit?

I am not into too much of cards but obviously crypro craze made me look into this now.
I have a question how do you buy Topps Allen & Ginter cards? I went to their website I do see they sell cards by set or box but not these cards.
How do you get these cards beside buying from auctions or from person? Is there a way to buy these cards from the company website directly and if is it what is the name of the set?

Thanks in advance.  Smiley

Sure if I bought in 2009/10 and was rolling in coin I’d throw them the offering price for shits and giggles but in this day and age that dosnt happen anymore.

All it takes is one buyer, and clearly it isn't you. If I were OP I wouldn't sell to you based on your conduct alone.

I would love to broker some form of trade for like 1 casascius and 2 btc or similar so I still have a loaded collectible in case btc moons.

Everyone is hating on this new forum member, who is trying to sell an extremely rare piece in very good condition.  We all want this piece.  They are just here trying to come up with a price and learn along the way.  They've already said that they will take a single Cas (valued at 1.2ish) plus 2 BTC.  So now we're at ~3.3 bitcoin if you're smart and want to actually buy this.  Or you can choose to be an asshole and focus on their highest ask price.

They have been polite. They have taken in a lot of hostility.  They have done everything requested of them except lower the price to something "reasonable" by the standards of the peanut gallery.  A lot of this is semantics, but I don't see how you can criticize someone for wanting to get the best price possible, and who doesn't know the current price market.

What if this was a family friend of someone's collection who passed away? Bullying them into a particular price point makes everyone here look like an asshole.

Frequently Asked Question: I am a new user. How do I go about selling an item here on the forum?

See this thread as an example of what to do, and how to conduct yourself as a new member trying to sell (or buy) on this collectibles board.

I gave you a merit for posting a picture with the block hash. Thank you.  It's not easy starting out here, and finding a price to settle on.  My advice is to not rush into anything, and don't let the "price commentary" get to you.  Eventually you will figure out what this piece is worth and you will find a buyer, but it will most likely involve BTC and escrow with someone like Krogothmanhattan or MJ if it's brokered over the forum.

2)  We have a rule where we only deal with the actual seller directly when discussing rare items.  Please provide proof that you have the item in your possession by writing your screenname + date on a piece of paper next to the item

Let's go one step further.  Please write most recent block #, and the last 6 or 8 digits of the block hash.  As was correctly brought up elsewhere this could be exploited in the future if people rely only on date + photo
20  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Prypto Scam on: October 28, 2019, 11:06:04 AM
In my jurisdiction: A gift certificate or credit memo sold or issued for consideration in this state may not have an expiration date, or expiration, period.
For what it's worth: this varies per country. In The Netherlands for instance a gift certificate has a minimum validity of 1 year if there's a start and end date on it. If there's only a start date, the validity is (at least) 5 years, and if there's no date at all, it's valid indefinitely (source in Dutch). The catch is: It's allowed to refer to general conditions on a website for validity.
(A judge can rule to end validity of this last category, as recently happened to old stamps (another source in Dutch).

Sounds like this was an exit scam, planned 5 years in advance, with the distributors on the hook.  It's quasi-legal due to the shitty EU protections for consumers, including some shitty protections for USA consumers (outside or Jurisdictions like my own).  Everyone associated with this project should be investigated, IMO.
