For those that don't know, these in my opinion work so much better from a internet connectivity standpoint.  No longer do you have to run an enet cable to each miner as you do on the AntMiners.

They use a raspberry Pi3 as a controller running a version of OPENWRT with cgminer preloaded and a nice web interface to configure, view status, etc.

Each *controller* can support up to 4 of the AUC3 (which do not come with the miner, instead I believe one is included with the controller if you buy a controller from canaan).  Don't overlook this step if you are just getting started with the Avalon 8s.

Each AUC3 can support up to 5 miners

This means that a single rPi3 controller can support up to 20 miners on a single enet connection.... Or if you want a wireless connection.

Bottom line, the miners come with a single cable that can connect to an AUC3 or to another miner (they do not come with the controller or the AUC3)
The AUC3 plugs into the rpi3 and can support up to 5 miners per each
The rPi3 can support up to 4 AUC3's for a total of 20 miners
enet plugs only into the rpi3, not the individual miners

The easiest solution is to just buy a controller/AUC3 from the guys at BLOKFORGE, but they are so much more flexible than the AntMiners IMHO.

(one final note, if you have 741s or 821s, you can not mix them on the same controller, 7s wont run on 8s and 8s wont run on 7s.  I already know this as I have 741s and 821s
62  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BLOKFORGE- Official Canaan Distributor on: March 16, 2018, 08:04:38 PM
Does the controller come with the 841??? I'm not seeing any documentation.
no that got changed with the 821.  The only thing included is the i2c cable that would be used to connect to the AUC3 or another miner

Hi, Awesome Miner is better and better, thank you for your nice work, Patrike and team.

I have a question: Why is algo PHI never work on Zergpool? It is not showing in Online services, but Ahashpool is there and its mining normally. When I use another SW for mining, PHI on Zergpool is mining fine. Can you check, please?

go to the options and under online services add it as a user defined, it's not in the pre-defined for zergpool

can I make a suggestion,

Can you add a field to the config.json structure that would allow a *specific* exchange to be used for the price?  I'm trying to price a *new* coin, which is on a couple of the exchanges, but the price that keeps being pulled in is one that isn't accurate, updated, and just wrong and I know of no way to override that.  E.g. I want the price that CMC is providing which is coming from tradesatoshi, but I'm getting one from some other exchange.

While I'm asking, might it be possible to add a netdiff field as well, if its there it will use that diff, if it's not, it will pull from the data structures that it updates from.  This would allow for these early coins to have some difficulty data until all the various apis etc are in place to handle dynamic data.

Hoping these 2 things would benefit a few people.

Both would allow a price update to occur

Thanks
66  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AwesomeMiner Coin Updater *Version 0.5* (Plugin) on: March 13, 2018, 03:59:24 PM
ok, so I have the price, block time, block size, etc that I'm sure it's getting from the exchanges.

One piece I don't have the difficulty.

The block explorer doesn't provide it in a format that will work it seems.  Plus it's wrong on the official explorer

So I'm wondering if there is a way to fake or somehow use a different json api to get the difficulty for this coin?

I have found it in a couple of places, but I suspect it won't work.  Other option would be to rewrite another json into a perferred one on a local web resource.

Might there be a general purpose json structure that I could replicate?

Thanks in advance,

AwesomeMiner Coin Updater 0.5.1 (Requires AwesomeMiner 4.5 Release)
  • Removed NuGet package that was causing exe to get flagged as a Trojan
  • Added autogenerator for config.json (just run the exe)

You can find the latest update in the Mega link.

newest version still reporting that there is a newer version available - fyi
68  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AwesomeMiner Coin Updater *Version 0.5* (Plugin) on: March 13, 2018, 02:22:30 PM
would you care to include a config.json in the download file, there is none currently so new people don't have a way to understand the current format (which appears to have changed a number of times).

Also I just downloaded and am getting the warning that there is a newer version available?

Lastly, in appears you do not support the Insight api?

How could I use some other form of data for the this coin

Bitcoin Private
BTCP
https://explorer.btcprivate.org/
https://explorer.btcprivate.org/api/status

it's 1.5625 coins per block
and a 2.5 min block time

Thanks in advance
69  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AwesomeMiner Coin Updater *Version 0.4* (Plugin) on: March 13, 2018, 01:56:09 PM
AwesomeMiner Coin Updater 0.5 (Requires AwesomeMiner 4.5 Release)
  • Added support for Graviex Exchange
  • Added support for cryptohub.online Exchange
  • Fixed an issue with changes from Stocks.Exchange (or tradesatoshi.. can't remember)
  • General improvements/clarifications in the console

You can find the latest update in the Mega link.

Just download and ran and it says there is a newer version available, but I have the newer version so or I think?

I'm trying to find a way to get AM to only mine using 3 out of 6 GPUs?  I'm hoping to run some tests with GPUs 1-3 running on NH and GPUs 4-6 running AM.  Is this possible on the free edition of AM?  If not, which paid version supports this?

Thanks!
depends on the miner, but just create 2 miners and add the command line option to use x,y,z cards on one miner and 1,2,3 on the other

There may be a more elegant way to do it as well, but the above should work I think
71  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 8 official specs released on: March 11, 2018, 11:33:37 PM
I wonder with the new updates if Canaan still recommends setting the minimum fan to 100%

It does say under CGMiner Configuration, Minimum Fan%(Range: 0-100, Default: 10%)

but I can't remember if the original controller image had the same 10% default listed.

because the max temp is 70 on the 821, not 90 like the 741, you will find that if you can't keep the inlet temp to 27 or less, that the fan is going to run at 100% anyway.

The compromise I made was set it to 70 instead of 100.  But unless the environment they are running in is really cold, the fan is going to run up to 100 pretty much anyway.  And I don't think I'd let them run about 75 for very long, the chips they use are very sensitive to over temp and one of the recent changes to a fix to set the over temp condition.

Patrike,

Is there a way to change all the zerg names?  they have changed their name to mine too per their webpage and all of them need to be updated.
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Awesome Miner]- Powerful Windows GUI to manage and monitor up to 5000 miners on: March 08, 2018, 02:25:11 AM
Patrike,

Could you add something to profit profile for me? Could you add under Profit Profile, when you select an algo from the list on the display under gpu clocking profiles start and stop, could you add a line for "execute batch file before start mining" then a selection to allow us to link to it either local or remotely.

This simple addon would allow people to use third party OC and Settings without a major overhaul to Awesome Miner.
Example on a remote rig, i could then create a folder for all my OC batch files, then create a new one for each algo like Skein.bat, then link to it so we can use Nvidia Inspector without you having to implement it and get rights to use someone elses software....

Also i was curious what updates are coming on Profit Switching side of AM, just trying to help you improve it so others can better benefit from it, ive been doing some testing on 2 of my rigs... just comparing the list of algos alone based on most profitable, they have slightly different orders for some reason. I am not exactly sure how 2 different miners could rate profit list differently if using the same api info from the pool.

I am not sure how your profit switching method is determined, but i would like to see an option for different modes so the user could select which route to base his switching by,
example: Current Estimate Mode, 24 Hour Estimate Mode, 24 Hour Actual Mode
The different modes would allow people to pick between one that switches a lot due to high spikes in coins to 24 actual mode, which would be a stable reliable amount earned without all the extra switching for pumped coins, maybe even add a hybrid mode which would do like a percentage of 2 modes values.. like (70%-24 actual mode/30%-current estimate mode), just really truly like AM and want it to exceed and be better than other miners, not sure what Nemo has developed in his latest profitplus modes, but they seem to be working well with my test set... maybe look into how he is going about it as an idea for improvement.

6 x EVGA 1080ti using AM Ahashpool profit switching with same settings, 7 day earnings was 0.01461601btc

6 x EVGA 1080ti using Nemo *new Ahashpoolplus profit switching with same settings, 7 day earnings was 0.01600200btc

did you check out the latest version?  The ability to pick current, 24hr predicted and actual are already available

Is there a way to make a failover method for a group of pools when using other than cgminer or sgminer?

If so how?

You make a pool group, and use the failover tick box when you setup the pool group.

that doesn't work, as the little help exclamation point says its only used with cgminer and sgminer.  I'm looking for a way to do it for dstm?

Is the default setup for profit mining a good one to start with?  Specifically, what time duration, % change are people have good success with?  I have most everything turned on... on 1080Ti's (6) and am using Zpool, MPH, and ahashpool (I turned on zergpool for a while, but it seems it never pays Sad... unless it stuck behind some mandatory hold timer, I mined there for 10 hours and everything is in the exchange, nothing has cleared).

Anyway, just looking for a good starting point and process and proposed BTC/day for the above?  looking for any suggestions.

Yes. Steven has told that the A841 power efficiency should be even better.  Smiley

You seem to have a pretty good relationship with Canaan.  I think it would be worthwhile to ask if the undervolt stuff is good for these miners or not.

Here is a copy of an email that I got from then when I asked about potential bugs in the firmware.

"e.g. there is an option to set a -2 to 1 voltage offset, this worked with the 741s, but with the 821, that option is there in the web interface, but the command that is actually used to start the miner,
*always* forces the 0 offset and ignores the value set in the web UI.
>> This option is for A741, sorry for we didn't delete this function from A821's firmware.

There is one other around the min fan speed, it defaults to 100%, what probably makes more sense is to set to that 50 by default.  The outlet temperature is set to 70, where as on the 741 it was 90, because of this with the default min fan set to 100%, the fans run at 100%  speed whether they need to or not.
>> We locked the fan speed in the A821 firmware since its chips cannot take high temperature.
"

You'll see my question and their response..  It is worthy of note - there are *2* voltage options on the 821, the 741 only had one.  It could be they referenced the other one when they sent that I just don't know.  I know it works if you change it to add to the commandline, but what I don't know is if there might be damage that could be caused by using it?

Just a thought.

Patrike,

I sent you a PM on the Avalon 8 ASIC miner.  In this release you are working on, if you don't have enough information to enable the stuff in my PM can you please add an ASIC type AV8 enabled the same as the AV7 so that at least it shows correctly in the ASIC listing?
Hi,
Many thanks for sharing the API report. The next update of Awesome Miner will correct the temperature readings for the new Avalon miners.

Thanks Patrike!

80  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [45+PH] KanoPool kano.is 10 BTC giveaway 🐈 on: February 22, 2018, 07:19:56 PM

akadamson just cheated a few.

He extrapolated the results of mining short period (couple of hours) at latest difficulty at slush to a longer period (1 month, at more more little difficulties). This obviously created an error: luck of profit in slush.
Later on he calculates the real profit obtained mining at Kano and compares with the "extrapolated" profit in slush.... and the conclusion is:

Almost the same!! isn't it marvellous?

The worse thing here is that legendary one applaud this and even give merit...

I hope no new miners will come and trust this non sense without verifying the data!!! we are talking about loosing money!!!

I'd really like to know how I *cheated*.  Let's work the numbers *another way*... Let's take the Minergain.com CDT from slush on their weekly numbers, that should remove the diff topic that you referenced (which is wrong BTW, but I'll leave that alone).

Slush's CDT is 0.00008985
my calculated CDT for slush against my numbers was .00008703

Hmm... that's pretty dang close wouldn't you say?  Enough that is would have changed the numbers *slighly* but not that much.

So let's look at it again.  @ 30Th/s
that would be .0026955 BTC a day
over 35 days, that would have been .094325 BTC

Darn it, Kano still won.... hmmm

I think you cheat, yes!

Did you do it again? why you use Week CDT instead of Month CDT for slush? Week CDT has latest difficulty... uhmmm

Again you show you have no idea what you are talking about.... Ok, let's do it your way...

monthly CDT for slush is 0.00009807

So at 30Th/s
that would be .00294121
over 35 days, that would be .10294235  BTC

There ya happy?  I specifically avoided getting into this discussion because whats going to happen is that as soon at Kano finds that next block, if we match up the numbers *right* at that point, using slush month (it doesn't matter), KANO is still going to come out on top.  And if we stay at 100% it wins HUGE.

Of if you want to put this in better perspective.
What is Kano right now on diff vs CDT around 250+%... and what is slush?  Around 95% (they have average luck).

When you balance that our for KANO it's the clear victor... with no cheating, just idiots who elect to make their version of math (which is wrong) work for them.... so have fun
