3002  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / What I Think Is Going On With Miner Pre-Orders on: December 04, 2013, 06:33:30 AM
Take any leading ASIC miners hardware manufacturer an you'll notice at least 4-6 months of waiting period on their state-of-the-art hardware pre-orders. They say the devices in question are under development and there is no guarantee they'll be available within certain period of time.

This got me into thinking: how would you know if they haven't completed the development of the hardware and have started mining Bitcoins themselves? If you think of the profits, it all makes sense.

For the sake of an example, let's consider the 600 GH/s card from Butterfly Labs. They're accepting pre-orders for $4680. Now assume the card has already been developed and they've started mining Bitcoin themselves. With current difficulty, they'll mine at least 12 Bitcoins per month - which at the current rate, is equal to $12600. So why would they dispatch it to you for $4680 right now?

What makes sense for them is:
1 --> Take pre-orders for a 600 GH/s card and take your money
2 --> Develop the card and start mining for themselves
3 --> Tell people the hardware is still under development
4 --> Mine as many Bitcoins as possible with state-of-the-are hardware, until there is a significant difficulty rise
5 --> When the difficulty reaches at the point when mining with 600 GH/s takes several months to break-even, start dispatching the device to customers
6 --> Start pre-orders on 1200 GH/s hardware!

Never mind; I posted in the main CUDAminer thread and received lot of replies. I am running it successfully now, thanks!

I don't know about USA; maybe a million dollars are not enough to retire there. But I can retire comfortably here in India with just 200 BTC.

Let me explain.

Consider the price of a Bitcoin going up to 1000 dollars in near future. That would give me $200,000. With current exchange rate (1 $ = 62 INR), it gives me 1,24,00,000 INR. Cutting down 30% tax, I will end up having around 87,00,000 INR. I can spend 700k of them right now which is enough to buy a car. I will put 50,00,000 in a bank. Believe me or not, the banks give 9% interest per year. So I'll receive 45k INR per MONTH just by sitting and doing nothing, which is how much I currently make by doing my job (and it is considered a good salary here at the  age of 30). The rest 30,00,000 I can invest in real-estate. If you know where to invest, you can easily double your money in 4-5 years here. I have my own house, so I don't have to worry about house-buying expense.

With 45k INR per month, you can have a fairly easy life in urban India. We're not talking about buying a yacht or flying different parts of world every now and then. But you can rent a good house (if you don't have your own), eat what you want, pay your bills & your kids' education, have a maid for house chores, and take your kids for a trip to different parts of India during their vacations. The returns on my real-estate investments will allow me to adjust for inflation.

So basically with 200 BTC, I retired at the age of 30 for the rest of my life. Now I if I want, I can still work for whatever job gives me joy of working.

So there you go. I have a full-proof plan. Now I just need 200 BTC. Donations are welcome at 12LEhtP1Ty9hwMDkoHJ97DkbCXHCENpdzH

It is giving me 25 khash/s. I guess this is normal rate for my card?
would expect a little more than that but now you have it working you can start tweaking the -l setting. the google docs page has been resurrected
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/lv?key=0AjMqJzI7_dCvdG9fZFN1Vjd0WkFOZmtlejltd0JXbmc&f=true&noheader=true&gid=0
so you can check out other peoples settings, try -l F16x8

Thanks Eli0t (once again)! I changed my settings to -l F16x8 and now I'm getting 73 khash/s. Will still do trial-error by tweaking this setting.
I'm running it on interactive mode so that the computer does not freeze.

yes you need to update your drivers, looks like your using 301. for the version number right click the desktop and select Nvidia Control Panel and the home icon will tell you the driver version

i recommend 314.22 but you can try the latest ones if you want (if you get system lockups use 314.22)

Thank you very much Eli0t for your help! I updated my driver to 314.22 and ran CudaMiner on auto mode. It is giving me 25 khash/s. I guess this is normal rate for my card?

that line is for using 3 devices to mine, start with this to find your auto tune settings and add the result after -l
Quote
cudaminer.exe -H 1 -i 0 -C 2 -l -m 1 -o stratum+tcp://stratum2.wemineltc.com:3334 -O btcsgk.home1:x
or try
Quote
cudaminer.exe -H 1 -i 0 -C 2 -l 16x8 -m 1 -o stratum+tcp://stratum2.wemineltc.com:3334 -O btcsgk.home1:x
some jealous soul has deleted all the settings from the google doc

you need version 305 drivers or higher

Thanks Eli0t for your prompt response!

When I try the first code you provided (to find auto tune settings), the command prompt opens and closes so fast that I can't even see what happened.

When I try the second code, I receive the same error I posted in my post above ("cudaminer.exe has stopped working")

I also waited on the GUI Miner to see if it ever connects to pool.
After 10 minutes or so, it reported an error (on the bottom Left corner): "json_rpc_call failed"

Edit:
Below is a screenshot of my current driver. Do I need to upgrade?

Hello,
I am fairly new to mining, just started. I have a PC with Intel Core i7 2600K; and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550Ti graphics card; and 8GB of RAM.
I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

I wanted to start mining LTC. I read that CudaMiner is best for NVIDIA GPUs, so I thought to start with that. I joined WeMineLTC.com and setup my workers. But since I didn't know what options to put in the .bat file, I had a look at the README.txt and tried to follow the pattern. My current .bat file looks like this:

Code:
cudaminer.exe -H 1 -d 0,1,2 -i 1,0,0 -l auto,F27x3,K28x4 -C 0,2,1 -o stratum+tcp://stratum2.wemineltc.com:3334 -O btcsgk.home1:x

When I run the .bat file, CudaMiner starts and makes the following progress:

But then it stops:

So I thought of using GUI-Miner, which also has a CudaMiner included. The options I set are as below:

But as you can see, there is no mining progress. On the bottom Right corner, it just keeps showing "Starting" but never actually starts mining.

Can anyone please guide me on how I should go about this?
I am OK if you help me get through any one of the two methods above.

Thanks in advance!
3011  Other / Beginners & Help / Using CudaMiner with Coinotron? on: November 13, 2013, 06:22:15 AM
Hello,
I am a newbie at mining ad I'm trying to mine LTC with Coinotron Pool.

I have 2 systems to use as my workers: one has NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550Ti and the other one has NVIDIA Quadro FX 570. I read on many forums that CudaMiner is best for NVIDIA cards, so I'm using the same.

The problem I'm getting into is preparing the .bat file to successfully execute the cudaminer.exe
Right now my .bat file looks like this:

Code:
cudaminer.exe -d 0 -l auto -o stratum+tcp://coinotron.com:3334 -O myworker:mypassword

Then I see following dialog on screen for just a second:

and then it quickly closes.

And there is no mining activity reported on my Cointron account.

Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?
