1861  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: solo mining in lottery terms on: June 17, 2015, 10:39:57 PM
Not sure exactly what the odds are using lottery terms but it will definitely depend on your hashrate.

For example, an S5 (1.15TH) according to coinwarz will take 2148.02 days ( 5.8 years ) to find a block at current difficulty:
http://www.coinwarz.com/calculators/bitcoin-mining-calculator/?h=1150&p=600&pc=0.10&pf=0.00&d=49692386354.89380000&r=25.00000000&er=250.82000000&hc=0.00

Whereas 1PH ( 1000TH ) should only take 2.47 days to find a block: http://www.coinwarz.com/calculators/bitcoin-mining-calculator/?h=1000000.00&p=600.00&pc=0.10&pf=0.00&d=49692386354.89380000&r=25.00000000&er=250.82000000&hc=0.00

Ignore the watts and power cost its irrelevant Wink.

Right so if we take the S5 figure, for instance, and extend it with the average 144 blocks per day, I think it's 1 in 309,314.88. I also think all of these calculations are all restatements of what everyone in this thread said earlier. The lotto-type odds rely on difficulty and local hashrate. Difficulty depends on target. Target is reset every 2016 blocks based on global hashrate.

I've no idea mate I just go on coinwarz figures they seem to be pretty accurate.

EDIT: At the end of the day the more hash you have the better you're chance Grin.
1862  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: should to move my ''saving'' to Bitcoin? on: June 17, 2015, 10:22:47 PM
i have about 1200 Dollar in stocks(savings). should i just move those Money and buy BTC for them instead ? and Hodl for atleast 5 years ?

Its a gamble that could go up or down I'm sure you know the risks involved. No-one can say what the btc price will be in 5 years and whether it will be worth more or less than today. Hopefully it will be worth more but there's always a chance it will be worth less.

The call ultimately comes down to what you think is best I'm afraid. Personally, I am investing any spare funds I have in bitcoin because I think the value will go up but that's just me, I'm not advising you to do the same. And I'm only investing money I can afford to lose which isn't very much in all honesty. Just the odd $50 - $100 here and there.

1866  Economy / Services / Re: Programming idea for you on: June 17, 2015, 09:30:18 PM
I had a great idea for a gambling game. it is very new and hasn't been done before. I actually have a couple ideas, all are slightly similar and you will obviously be able to choose which one you want me to develop.
PM me and I will give you details, and we can look at costs.
It will be a casino game and I will have accounts, balancing, deposit, withdraw, provably fair, all that.
Edit:
I am the programmer, I want someone who is interested in running a casino to pay me to set this up for them

How much would you be asking ( ballpark figure )?
1867  Other / Politics & Society / Re: A Cop just told me, "Freedom doesn't exist anymore." on: June 17, 2015, 09:25:42 PM
I was blowing leaves off of my property this morning (granted 7:30am might have been a bit early) when a police officer confronted me.  He told me that I was breaking the law (where I live the noise ordinance is from 10pm-6am).  When I let him know the law and asked what law I was breaking along with some other discussions, he responded by saying, "This isn't the good old days, freedom doesn't exist anymore."  He had a straight face and was dead serious.  It is a sad day when not even the police believe in freedom anymore or respect the laws.  I just wish I had been recording the interaction as it would have been youtube gold.

Its understandable you we're 'told off' for operating a leaf blowing machine much earlier than the time allowed 'to make noise' where you live. 10am is pretty late though, is it like an old peoples retirement complex that you live in? Wink

I've also been 'told off' for using my work equipment before 8am which is the time in the UK where I live that you are allowed to start making noise. However this doesn't seem to apply to the dustbin men who regularly make lots of noise outside my house at 7am. Still I'd rather that than not have my rubbish collected Grin.
1868  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How earn 1BTC a year? on: June 17, 2015, 09:14:12 PM
you can participate in a bit-x signature campaign which i think will last for a long time and post 3-4 constructive posts a day with full member account, after a year you will have one bitcoin

bit-x's campaign is open for now, but its only open o full members and up; i gotta say I love the automated post counting bot though, checking live stats is a cool aspect of their campaign.

I agree the bit-x signature campaign is good and the live stats feature is very useful.

Looks like its still open if anyone's interested Smiley: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=877765.0
1869  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Choosing a PSU on: June 17, 2015, 06:41:13 PM
Thinking back, for a while I actually had 3 x CX750's running 6 x Antminer S1's ( 2 x S1's per CX750 ). The S1's were pulling 360w / 30 amps each so 2 x S1's = 720w / 60 amps. Which is more than the S5 which pulls 600w / 50 amps. The 2 pci-e cables split into 4 pci-e connectors, 1 cable with 2 connectors powered each S1. The CX750s peak power is 825 w / 62 amps.

Sorry, my memory isn't what it used to be.....
1870  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Choosing a PSU on: June 17, 2015, 06:12:47 PM
Also remember that the Corsair CX750 only has 2 x pci-e plugs and the S5 needs 4.

In all honesty you're better off going for a branded psu with minimum 4 pci-e connections or a server supply with the same.

If you're thinking about getting another S5 in the future then the EVGA Supernova 1300 or 1600 look just about perfect for the job as philipma1957 mentioned a few posts back as they both have 8 pci-e connectors.
I've seen other people mention this here that the CX750 only has 2 pci-e plugs, this is wrong. As per Corsair's site it has 4 plugs - http://www.corsair.com/en/cx-series-cx750m-modular-atx-power-supply-750-watt-80-plus-bronze-certified-modular-psu

I also don't like using Dogie's guide. Reason being he gives his rating but doesn't state why for example EVGA Supernova 1300W gets 93.0 rating, while the exact same model in 1100W version gets 78.0 or something similar  Huh Huh.....No explanation and it doesn't make sense. Also, he states the CX750 has 2 connectors, which is probably why people don't realise it has 4.

One last comment, what constitutes a no-name PSU? Corsair/Thermaltake/Cougar/CoolerMaster/EVGA/Gigabyte , is it safe to say these aren't no-names?

I can't tell for sure but the CX750M almost looks like it has 2 pci-e cables with 2 pci-e plugs on each which would be listed as 4.   But since if it is really just using 2 cables it's not the same as having 4 different pci-e cables.

I would try to find someone on here who has that model to see if it's really 2 cords or 4 cords.
I've had this one as well, and you're correct.  It's two cables with two PCIe connections per cable.

Yes that's correct sorry its been a while since I owned one, they do indeed have 2 cables with 2 plugs on each.

This should be in computer hardware Wink: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=75.0

Its also advisable to post some pictures of the unit with your username and the date in view and also accept escrow.

Also remember that the Corsair CX750 only has 2 x pci-e plugs and the S5 needs 4. You could probably use molex to pci-e converters but I'd be wary putting that wattage / amps through them because they can get hot and even melt which is obviously a fire risk.

In all honesty you're better off going for a branded psu with minimum 4 pci-e connections or a server supply with the same. Please take a look at Dogies psu guide if you need any help with an atx unit: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=486121.0.

Don't even attempt molex to pci-e.   On wattage like this it's not if there is a problem but when.    Converting to pci-e cables normally are also not very good gauge cable, add that to mix as well.

Avoid this just like no name low quality PSU's.

+1 Smiley.

1874  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many friends did you recommend bitcoin to? Did they accept it? on: June 16, 2015, 05:45:57 PM
I've told a couple of my friends about bitcoin in the past while on a night out but their eyes glazed over and started yawning. They're not interested in computers or tech or anything like that. Since then I haven't bothered mentioning it to them or anyone else, its my little secret interest and hobby that no-one else needs to know about Cheesy.

Some how to be successful book by Duncan Bannatyne about 8 years ago on my honeymoon. Book was shite but honeymoon was all inclusive so spent all week pissed and having sex lol.........

LOL.. Better then a shitty book and no sex!

Im surprised its just you and I in here. Do we not have any other readers on this forum?

Ha ha very true I'm glad it was the good way around Cheesy.

I'm surprised your thread hasn't had more comments too....

Yeah I hope it will fill up.

Another book I read recently was Do No Harm by  Dr Henry Marsh. He was a neurosurgeon and this is like his memoir. Great read.

Is that the one where he had an outer body experience or died and came back to life or something?

A supermarket was just an example Wink, any paid job would be better than sitting on here posting all day for bitcoin dust.

I know it would send me crazy in about 1 week Cheesy.

1879  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How earn 1BTC a year? on: June 16, 2015, 12:03:24 PM

Surely you people would be better off getting a job in a supermarket than wasting your time on here with signature campaigns?

Then buying btc with your wages if you wanted to.

In a supermarket are you serious? You barely earn there, and the stress and annoying people in there are not worth the money.

I`d rather write signatures all day than waste my energy and health with some morons in a store.

You could do both and be rich Grin
