61  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do you mine Bitcoin? on: February 07, 2018, 01:26:01 AM
it starts with a few thousand dollar investment if you want to mine bitcoin specifically.

https://shop.bitmain.com/productDetail.htm?pid=000201801170959500908a6LT4fg0669

is probably the most popular unit. you will also need a large efficient power supply and a way to control it

many of us just start with cpu/gpu mining alt coins and transfer that to bitcoin as it can be done on our gaming computers when we aren't using them
62  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: So I just read the LN white paper... on: February 06, 2018, 08:40:10 PM

According to my calendar, 2017 has already passed.

Gee thanks, hadn't noticed.

Sorry, I think I overreacted here.  From your further posts, it seems your questions have been sincere.  I should explain.

There is a steady stream of posts, often from new accounts, which desperately try to find something, anything wrong with Lightning.  I sometimes see excellent posters waste hours and an ocean of virtual ink trying to keep up with frivolous arguments.  And while there’s nothing wrong with a new account, insofar as all start that way, that gives no post history for me to check and see if you be that type.

i'm reasonably new to crypto but a seasoned securities trader. it took me roughly two weeks to realize this. seems like there is a LOT of hype/marketing from sockpuppet accounts, fake articles, just a hype train often in the name of market manipulation. team evil with bcash is one that definitely comes to mind

has it always been like this or is it a fairly recent development with all the alt coins we now have, many with pumpNdump strats in place?
63  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin purchase not welcomed by some banking organisations? on: February 06, 2018, 12:07:14 AM
i'm just going to point out one thing here. you can't use your CC to buy stocks either

or in simple terms banks are saying. you can speculate with YOUR money, not ours
64  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 15 Gh/s, want to solo mine, any advantage? on: February 05, 2018, 11:38:03 PM
how do you have a farm and so little knowledge?
65  Economy / Speculation / Re: [POLL] Is the bubble bursting?? on: February 05, 2018, 11:32:03 PM
you guys have no idea if the price will keep falling. back in December people were talking 100k and had all these arguments. now it's all doom and gloom. just herd mentality. the focus should be on the LN and making this a workable product. the price will do what the price will do
66  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / what really changed with the aug. fork to bcash? on: January 30, 2018, 11:09:47 PM
i honestly have been trying to wrap my head around this one for awhile now. if the august fork was all about low fees and transaction timing why exactly is this not being further developed on core? it seems like most the institutional support is behind core and bcash has mostly angry twitter feeds but i'm generally curious about the idea behind it. do you guys see a legitimate future here and if so, why or why not? bitmain appears to be accumulating large sums of bcash just was their antminer sales

67  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: They are Banning crypto every where - now facebook on: January 30, 2018, 10:55:40 PM
Can't say I blame then really. The vast majority are loathsome scams with no redeeming value whatsoever.

I presume they'll vet and readmit the legit advertisers but then again if you are legit you probably have a much, much lower need to advertise.

68  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Worried about btc future on: January 24, 2018, 01:49:39 AM
the time to worry is when large companies dump accepting it in mass. when the positive momentum stops. right now it's accelerating. you can buy computer parts at newegg with bitcoin. no other crypto is accepted. how about overstock? same. bitcoin has the lead the only worry would be if they become AOL / Yahoo and throw away their lead
69  Economy / Speculation / Re: What should we do now? on: January 23, 2018, 07:07:02 AM
consider this. the tax situation in asia. specifically south korea. people with holdings are running NOW. getting out NOW. from what i can tell they are looking to tax dodge. once the rules are in place back in they go. the fundamental reason behind the selloff is excellent for the long term health. it legitimizes the industry

there may also be a lot of people who got in 2009-2016 who are just saying...okay, i can be a millionaire with my holdings maybe i should actually do that

when i look at the big picture here it seems like this is the end of phase 1 and the start of phase 2. next we legitimize blockchain and it moves mainstream. this absolutely MUST happen. the whole question is who will be left standing. which coin or blockchain will become the one you see at the ATM. which one will companies accept. bitcoin has the obvious lead but yahoo and aol led the internet early on only to fall on their face to google. the next few years as we move toward that 21 million coin cap will be telling.
70  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you store your bitcoins? on: January 18, 2018, 04:04:25 AM
anyone who doesn't say cold storage or if they are online one of the insured majors like coinbase or kraken i would call risky

all i have to do is look at mt gox or even more recently nicehash to see the risk involved
71  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitconnect sold 50000 BTC on: January 17, 2018, 09:47:50 PM
Is 50.000 bitcoins really enough to influence that market that much?
I have a buddy who recently invested 10.000 USD into BitConnect. Ouch, I bet he's been crying in regret  Grin

if buyers aren't ready to meet the price then yes. if you ever watch futures trade in a thin market each trade drives the price. when i was watching the price fall the other day there were not many buy orders firing off so the price moved quickly.

this morning when we were at a tech support level and the selling seemed exhausted buyers stepped in and drove the price now +800usd in a few hours

50,000 coins is a lot of money and you also had nervous people in korea who were probably not wanting to throw more dollars at it just yet also limiting the buy side

i think the long term trend is bullish but it's going to be a wild ride on the way up.

if i could ask any fundemental question in the world and actually receive an answer which i know i can't it would be this. what happens at 21 million coins

what i honestly don't get is why someone would unload 50k coins into negative news. if you have a large position it would seem logical to sell into strength and trickle out
72  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does the decline of the market have anything to do with the government's policy? on: January 17, 2018, 06:14:25 AM
This is related, because government policies affect a lot of mainstream media, and the news of these media will affect the mood of investors. This is obvious in the past historical experience.

absolutely

it doesn't even really matter if it's legitimate regarding the concern. if holders in korea panic and believe they may not be able to sell due to a ban they will run as it seems a good idea to get out before everyone else.  in a worst case scenario they are correct.

as for the manipulation comment. if it is, someone is really going to a lot of trouble to cover their tracks. i was watching last night and only a handful of trades were major players like 50 coins etc. most were all fractionals and under .5 which is what i would expect to see from panicking home investors

i'm watching 10k and if that breaks 8k to see if we have technical support. if both of those fail you start wondering if the long term trend line will stay intact
73  Economy / Speculation / Re: How far Bitcoin price will drop? on: January 17, 2018, 05:25:29 AM
technical support is at 10k and 8k

but honestly....who knows. fears of asian governments banning the coins has people spooked.

it is however setting up for a big rally IF the decision is tame. if it's just regulated and taxed i would be floored if we don't see a rally
74  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Around 7:30 UTC prices of all coins dropped. What happened ? on: January 17, 2018, 12:07:16 AM
the only way you would have accurate predictions in any market is with inside information or non public information.

the fear right now is with asia. crypto is really hot over there and governments are looking to fine/ban trading. if that happens it's going to trigger a lot of sell orders. what we are seeing now would be fearful people exiting at what could be a near term good price

if asian countries do not make draconian laws you will see a massive rally

the "experts" are saying similar but the truth is we are all just guessing
75  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies are officially illegal to deal with in my country on: January 16, 2018, 11:59:19 PM
next up. businesses in the usa and canada who cater to countries where trading is illegal. move bitcoin to usa then sent as USD to whatever currency xxx country uses for a certain percentage. you could even camo this in ebay transactions if you wanted to

hard to say if all the steps would even make mining or trading in said country worth doing though

also won't work if said country closely monitors internet traffic. i suppose you could try TOR to a proxy and go that way but that's a lot of steps and a lot of cost

personally i'm hoping we don't start getting a ban-wagon with country after country stepping in. it could be what kills the upward momentum and drives crypto back to lower numbers. if that happens coins like bitcoin are going to have it hard. mining difficulty is very high and if the profit isn't there who would do it
76  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Newbies Take Note - Buying Opportunity on: January 16, 2018, 11:46:23 PM
fears in asia seem to be driving this. was watching the market last night. there were some large block trades but tons of smaller likely home based trades kicking off. if there is legitimate fear that trade will be banned in south korea a whole lot of people won't want to be breaking laws to invent work arounds. if SK issues reasonable guidance i would imagine the market will rally. even if SK did ban crypto what kind of long term worldwide impact would it really have?
77  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin expectation end of 2018 on: January 14, 2018, 12:08:50 AM
i've seen this behavior before and it was in 1999. i don't really doubt we will see 50k. this thing is going to run until it doesn't
78  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What if North Korea nuke US? on: January 11, 2018, 10:52:43 PM
They are basically asking for a beat down. Assuming the attack don't destroy America's nuclear arsenal then there would be retaliation. I suppose America's allies would help too. Aside from the US, France and the UK also have nukes and they are NATO members.

What if North Korea nuke US?

The medical will be out of business. Why? All that radiation will kill off all the bacteria and viruses. No more viral or bacterial infections.

 Grin

LOL, you always have the funniest comments.

We would give nukes to SK, and let them battle it out between them. But if they all were destroyed, it would take down a big part of the Bitcoin community.

Cool

they can't. the most deadly of our arsenal is on submarines and NK has no way to target those or even attempt to find them.

the real concern, as already stated, is if this were to happen the US retaliation would best case scenario wipe NK and stop there. millions dead. global depression for years. worst case we have the plot for fallout 5 with raiders,  radscorpions and all.

the only option is peace and negotiations and or a policy that breaks NK from the inside out economically like we did with the soviets. this could force a collapse and may not be something russia or china want since they share a boarder with NK
79  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What are the causes of climate change? on: January 09, 2018, 02:24:07 AM
i'm going to assume we are speaking of man made climate change, not natural cycles. i don't think there is any "one" reason and if i had to chose one it would simply be the word "people" while you can argue the impact of this or that activity the sheer amount of carbon we are putting into the atmosphere isn't a good thing. on a small scale you can walk into a city, temp is often 5+deg/f higher than 20 miles outside the city. you have all these heat sources in the city. more people = more cities and more consumption. i don't think anyone really knows what the increased levels of pollution are going to do exactly it's just getting to be pretty obvious that it isn't good. the other white elephant in the room is crude oil. there is only so much left. we know where it comes from. we know how it formed. it's finite. while there are renewables and we can recycle many materials there is absolutely nothing in the works which could provide the same number of BTU's indefinitely as we get from crude. world has a lot of coal and thorium reactors could be quite possible but it's all finite. all of it. society can not continue this growth trajectory forever. my personal theory is those in power know it and it's why entire continents like africa have been intentionally kept poor. just looking at today we simply do not have the resources for every person on the plant to have the same energy usage as the average westerner. even countries like saudi use words like "medium term" when discussing oil in the future.
