I'm just tryin' to look out for ya'.

Didn't mean to bite your head off. Definitely appreciate anyone looking out for me and this project. Cheesy

The thing is though, after looking at that thread, all I see is a bunch of horse shit claims with no proof or explanations, and then a bunch of other retards chiming in to add 'their two cents', and finally, as typical with angry mobs, everyone agreeing that because of a reason they can no longer remember, someone deserves to get hanged!

Screw it. MyBitCoin is a dude who is doing it all for free. BIT-FU is not expected to reach 100BTC in holdings at any time now or in the future. I'm not worried. ^_^

That being said, if anyone wants to assist in setting up bitcoind, I'll totally use a dedicated instead. It's the direction I'm going with my new work anyway... might as well do it for BIT-FU first so I can have the motivation to finish  Grin

No harm, no foul.

I have just seen negative reviews of mybitcoin here (deserved or not), and merely wanted to make you aware of that.

Isn't MyBitcoin currently scamming the crap out of people?

Any quote/citation/news/forum threads/etc you'd like to mention, or was this just an anti-mybitcoin hit-and-run?  Huh

P.S. I've decided to stick with MyBitCoin and just work on my own confirmation system.

I'm not "anti-mybitcoin" per se, but I have read anecdotes where it is apparent they are scamming some people.

Here is an example thread:

506  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [PULL] private key and wallet export/import on: July 11, 2011, 05:25:57 AM
Exporting of a key has a problem, doesn't it: the key is still in the source wallet. There's no way to remove it, is there? Even if there is, it's easy to screw up and people will wonder where their money went.

I do not seet it as a problem, so what if I have the same private key in many wallets?  Actually for me that is the case, because I store my wallets in many places on the internet. Encrypted of course.

That's backup-copies. I have those, too.

But say I give a privkey to a friend as birthday present. He imports it at some point and I still have it in my wallet. Now there are two active bitcoin clients showing the balance of that key. If one of the two spends the money, it will disappear from the other client, also.

So my friend or I will wonder "where the hell my/his money went"

That's only if you gave your friend an address generated by the bitcoin client, or an imported address.

If you generated one for him with "vanitygen" or some other bitcoin address generator, and never imported it to your own wallet, you could freely give a private key to a friend and intentionally "lose" the key yourself so that you cannot access his funds.
So you're willing to make the assumption that I'll never want to give my friend an address generated by the bitcoin client, or imported by myself?  I think that is a terrible assumption to make...

Give people the freedom to import/export as they want.  Sheesh, this is getting as bad as government.  "Well, I know what the people SHOULD have, and that's more important than what they want."

I was making no assumptions; I was under the impression that molecular was pondering a way to gift his friend a "pre-loaded" bitcoin address/privkey without being able to accidentally spend the coins himself. I was merely pointing out that there is a way to do this, albeit not with standard, unmodified client alone.

I'm all for freedom to import/export as people want.

By the way. Which insurance company do you work for?

He doesn't work for an insurance company. And here's why:

Insurance companies are very keen to keep their expenses very low, so, even those 12 computers mining 24/7 would raise their electricity bill so much that they would look very well to find out where it was being spent. Only 1 month of mining would be enough for the OP and his "partner" to be already working for "social security"(unemployed), not for an insurance company  Roll Eyes

You're not helping to liven up the discussion by being sensible.

Sorry for ruining the fun for the rest of you Cheesy

so, bitcoin is like a failed goldcoin ... smart thinking   Roll Eyes

If Goldcoin should have its backing fail, then it would be possible to have it automatically switch to function exactly like Bitcoin which has no backing. The thought experiment of Goldcoin was designed to be a Bitcoin clone except for the tweak to allow it to be backed. Automatically undoing that tweak in an emergency situation of losing its backing could make it just like Bitcoin.

wrong- bitcoin is backed by time- literally the only constant/unchanging thing in the universe.

Time is relative...

Hey MT, is there a shipping fee for international buyers or is it included in the cost?

The shipping fee is included in the price for any destination. Depending on your country's customs you may have to pay a tax.

what happened to the offer to give these away you made on onlyonetv bitcoin show when your site was hacked. you said they would be free to peeps who had trades reversed, ie inconvenienced..

i stand corrected, they are free if your account was affected like mine !

That's cool. I'm still locked out of my account!

Sad

512  Economy / Goods / Trading vintage (60's-90's) adult magazines (Playboy, Penthouse, etc) for BTC - on: July 09, 2011, 05:08:32 AM
I have several boxes of vintage adult magazines (Playboy, Penthouse, Hustler, and others) from the 1960's-1990's that I inherited and would be interested in trading for BTC.

If collectors are looking for a particular issue, I could check and see if it is one that I have. Otherwise, I can trade random issues, or an issue from a specific year or publisher, etc.

I don't have a set "price", but if you wish to trade BTC for my magazines (one, several, or all), I'm sure we can negotiate a fair trade.  Smiley

Also, I am registered on bitcoin-otc, and have positive rating on the OTC Web of Trust, under the same name I post under here.

If interested, reply to this thread or contact me via PM.

I'm tryin' to stimulate the bitcoin economy!

I have several boxes of vintage Playboy and Penthouse magazines from the 1960s - 1990s.

If anyone is interested, let me know.

Regardless, still getting the invalid character '[' error without pipes in the text file.  Any other suggestions?

What's the exact error message?  Is it, "Invalid character '[' in prefix?"

The only suggestion (which might get me in trouble) is to run with "-r".

So can the brackets [] not be used for finding an address with a specific prefix?

After some trouble setting up, the namecoin client is now downloading blocks and the Phoenix miner is setup to start as soon as all blocks are downloaded.
I understand why it's not popular... The client looks like it's made in 1983... Tongue

I'll mine some Namecoins on one of my rigs to speed things up a bit Wink Can't let all of you wait till august until the difficulty drops...

are you referring to a GUI client for namecoin?

If so, where can I find such a thing?

No, I didn't find a GUI client...
I only found this one:

http://dot-bit.org/InstallAndConfigureNamecoin

And it works...

ok. that's what I'm working with, but I don't see anything about downloading blocks.

Where can I find the commands for it?

I know "getnewaddress", but what are the rest?
