As far as I've been able to deduce, it's the most legally compliant exchange of them all.

2  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2014-01-28 Alcatel-Lucent files Bitcoin Patent Application: Vault to Wallet on: January 28, 2014, 07:36:36 PM
The only relevant things in a patent are the claims. Usually all you need to do is read claim #1 and see if it either exists already or doesn't - or whether it actually describes what you're worried about infringing.

In this case:

Quote
Claims
1. Method for use in a decentralized electronic transfer system, the method comprising the steps of:
- Generating a first digital code representing a first transaction from a first user's secure repository to the first user's unsecure repository;
- Sending the digital code to a secure storage memory related to the unsecure repository to be stored in an area of the memory;
- Generating by a processor related to the unsecure repository a second digital code representing a second transaction from the unsecure repository to the second user's repository;
- Connecting the processor to the internet;
And the subsequent steps of :
- Retrieving by the processor the first digital code stored in the secure storage memory;
Publishing by the processor via the internet connection of the retrieved digital code to validate the first transaction;
Publishing by the processor via the internet connection of the second digital code to validate the second transaction .

One of the limiting factors above would be "a secure storage memory related to the unsecure repository". That seems slightly uncommon. Also, it seems both transactions (secure repository to unsecure repository as well as unsecure repository to second user) needs to be published. I guess that happens naturally if they're both Bitcoin transactions.

So, either there's not an issue due to the "secure storage memory" or this describes something already done. Any takers?

(Yes, I do patent claim reading professionally)
3  Bitcoin / Press / Re: (2014-01-13) An NSA-Proof Twitter, Built With Code From Bitcoin and BitTorrent on: January 14, 2014, 04:19:39 PM
anyone used this?

Yes.

It's currently for very early adopters. I guess just using the Android precompiled client would be seen as low hurdle but it's just a quick port using the native linux and isn't optimized for mobile use, yet. The Linux/OSX versions require you to compile the binary yourself and be prepared for frequent pulls and recompiles.

If it takes off, that will likely change when people create more user friendly packages.

All keys are held by DataShell

In a post-Snowden world that's just irresponsible. You have other competitors in Europe who do full client-side encryption which is the only form of encryption that satisfies the common sense of privacy.

please look and check if they have any real asic chip

Why would they have an ASIC chip before the fab has made them? And when the fab has made them they're only days/weeks away from shipping.

Design house [idea & specs] -> electronics wiz [board design, ASIC design] -> ASIC fab -> electronics assembly -> seller

Sort of. I'd assume KnC would be the design house and ORSoC the electronics wiz as well as assembly house. Which fab they use I wouldn't know - but there's a limit to the amount of 28nm capable plants in the world.

(Helveticoin's 28nm ASIC is one I believe exists since ST-Microelectronics is partners with one of them)

Out of interest, who for sure (members of this forum) is actually situated in Sweden (or close to), specifically Stockholm?

I'm 2h by train away from Stockholm myself - and I know quite a few bitcoiners residing in Sthlm that I would in turn vouch for the credibility of.

8  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coinlab are sneaky bastards, investors behind Bitcoinica on: May 08, 2013, 05:17:31 PM
Ironically, I'm somewhat more intrigued by the Rackspace hack than I am by the Bitcoinica intrusion (hell, I even have questions about the Linode hack and whether other services were targeted solely to deflect attention).  The database was ever so conveniently destroyed during the Rackspace hack and I'll always wonder what secrets it might have revealed.

I understand Tihan's position from a purely business perspective.  I still believe that his trust in Zhou was a fatal error of judgement.

I made the following post way back then. I'm confident in my analysis - all hacks make sense viewed from the perspective of the person Zhou. While I unfortunately didn't link all the statements I refer to I believe the info exists in that thread, or at least linked from it. Bitcoinica simply never made any money - and that exaggerated boasting from a proud teenager spiralled out of control and was the direct cause of the later "hacks".

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=95795.msg1065233#msg1065233

This tells a lot about your attitude. I hope it is a hindsight and you didn't assume Bitcoinica to be a scammer's product when it was launched.

tl;dr: The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

I'm quite sure you launched Bitcoinica with the intention for it to provide value to the community. As initially suggested by Patrick/Intersango and others, your claims about trade volume were very suspicious. It's likely you simply exaggerated them, not unusual when being proud of what you've created.

Whether the Linode theft (where other accounts as well were swiped) just provided an excuse for some profit on the side or not I don't know, but I'm quite sure the only real money to have come out of running Bitcoinica were from user deposits. I have no personal opinion of whether it operated as a pure bucket shop or not, but others have documented the lack of visible MtGox movement even when Bitcoinica should've been hedging.

When, based on how you presented the success of Bitcoinica in public, you were approached with investment offers I believe you were simply unable to admit that it wasn't as successful as you claimed. I believe you went along way too far with whatever happened, and that the Rackspace "hack" was the simplest way out when Tihan started questioning the books. Additionally, it provided yet more profit which you might've needed to be able to keep up appearances with your friends and family.

After the very visible and complete failure by the Intersango people to handle the resulting mess I believe you made yet another profitable "hack" on the service. It wasn't as well planned nor executed as the previous, maybe it was simply opportunistic after having realized the release of the source code provided the excuse needed.

I've posted links to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pseudologia_fantastica and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_dissonance since I do believe they apply. I think you're currently unable to admit to yourself and people close to you where things went wrong, and you're still hoping to be able to exit this unscathed.

(I consider the above to be the simplest explanation possible that still fits all the known facts. I'm wary about the exact involvement by Amir, Patrick and Donald though - and since Tihan and Zhou supposedly have met in person it would be interesting to know exactly whom else have actually met either of them.*)

But then, the only reason I really care is that if people's only takeaway from having joined the Bitcoin community is that they get constantly scammed this will never fly. I thus believe Bitcoin fraud needs to be handled by the proper legal authorities. We're way past Mybitcoin's "as long as I give 49% back you guys won't hurt me, right?" - which btw looks suspiciously close to what you're currently trying to do as well.

*) Edit: Tihan's identity is verified by an upstanding member of the community, and thus Zhou's should be as well.

However, this doesn't change the fact that the Intersango crowd are utterly and completely incompetent.

it's rare a European company doesn't include it in the price

Marketing directed at consumers (not B2B) without including VAT (known as moms, at 25%) is illegal in Sweden.

chipd does better than many that only speak English.

My post was tongue in cheek, of course, with regards to comments earlier in the thread on how lack of proper English skills by KncMiner was a certain sign of scamminess Wink

(The quoted content was from them, not chipd, I hope)

11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm back! on: April 25, 2013, 05:07:08 PM
Tihan has met Zhou. Gavin has met Tihan. That much has been known since the Bitcoinica fiasco.

That does not change the fact that the explanation that fits all known facts and requires no leaps of faith (or unicorns) when it comes to who made off with Bitcoinica's money, times two - maybe three, is Zhou and Zhou alone.

Quoting a post from way back:

For those who don't remember, chat logs were posted where Tihan was questioning why the business they bought didn't make the money Zhou had claimed it did. That provides much of the rationale for what then happened.

   Fan cooled with 48 heat sync’s and fans plus two case fans producing a cooling tunnel across the chips
    Shipment begins on mass in just over 2 months.

I'd just like to apologise on behalf of all Swedes. We're #1, really*, in our grasp of the English language on a national level (stats from countries where English isn't the native language, although I'm not really sure it would make much of a difference).

It doesn't really show in communication from KncMiner though.

why are all the swedes in this one thread?

I wonder. Could it be because of it being about a Swedish company?

I'd also like to offer up the possibility that for a Swede this thread is simply filled with #win. I've never seen our tech sector, business sector, government bureaucracy and regulations being twisted to such fantastical extremes before.

Just to recap; all information about the persons, their claims and the company structures pass all possible sanity checks. Otoh, if you really have no idea how a country with a functional social structure works I guess that's hard to grasp Wink

In addition the number of ASIC pro's available in Sweden could probably be counted on two hands.

Nice! That means I know them all personally then.

(Or maybe our extensive high tech industry has managed to produce a few more)

15  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] Bitcoinica Consultancy abandons customers. Bitcoinica to enter Liquidation on: April 12, 2013, 02:36:23 PM
Not yet! Luckily, it's sitting in Mt. Gox safe and sound till the liquidators get it back so that they ... or something like that.

Interesting post on Reddit just now by MtGox on that topic:

WeAreMtGox:
"The communications from the liquidator wrongly creates an impression that we are withholding information and account access without any proper lawful basis and otherwise failing to co-operate with the liquidator. To the contrary, we have communicated our willingness to co-operate with the liquidators of Bitcoinica LP (In Liquidation) as far as we can lawfully do so.
Before we can release the confidential and highly sensitive information sought by the liquidators, they must first provide certain basic verificatory evidence to establish that they are entitled to the information. So far, they have not."

thanking me into putting mega hours

As I wrote very early on in this thread - these guys are 3rd level contacts with me on LinkedIn (connected through some people I trust immensely). They're also Swedish/based in Sweden, which is a whole different ball park when it comes to being able to hide your identity compared to a few other backwater countries (like the US) - it's simply extremely difficult. All the information posted (names, addresses, VAT number, company registration) etc check out.

I don't see anything being done yet to warrant the level of distrust displayed here. When they start accepting money I might go through my friends-of-friends and verify that what they're doing is legit. While I'm only a short train ride away from Stockholm myself I know ten other Bitcoin entusiasts (having been so for years) that live there and I'm sure they'd all jump at the opportunity to view a pre-production unit or two.

Do I believe they're a scam? No idea - it would just be unwise to run one out of Sweden.
Do I believe they're making their own ASICs? No, knowing the Swedish non-existent fab market I'd say they're sourced.

May I suggest you contact Rick Falkvinge, founder of the Swedish Pirate Party, when you have something to show?

I support this proposal.

18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: April 08, 2013, 04:19:38 PM
Careful guys, I know their not asking for money right now but they will soon be asking for money for another vaporware product.

I would be somewhat surprised if anyone in Sweden with a registered company and easily looked up (these guys appear as 3rd level contacts on LinkedIn for me) would try such a scam. While Sweden is known for our relaxed correctional institutions we do tend to take financial crimes quite seriously.

(We even have a tendency to extradite people from countries we don't even have extradition treaties with)

I would not be surprised to learn that there are chip designers (let's say, in Switzerland with an ST:Microelectronics background) who would design and manufacture ASICs for resellers with investment money from a financial background - like Andreas and Sam here.

With that said, I've seen better introduction posts Wink

19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I say it again: REDUCE THE FEES! on: April 03, 2013, 03:31:12 PM
No, pretty soon as in next halving. 1800 BTC per day production isn't going to keep enough miners interested, but the fees will.

Why would 1800 BTC/day at some future valuation not be interesting for miners when 3600 BTC at $15-$150 is, as was 7200 BTC at $0-$31?

No one is forcing anyone to make huge capital investments - it's healthy competition which clearly finds the current production rate attractive.
