61  Other / Meta / Re: Merit stats & all transactions more than 40 Merits on: March 03, 2018, 01:44:54 PM
1. would-be exchange between alt accounts
2. transaction at early stage of her/his sMerit history when s/he did not know how merits are rare / how many merits are reasonable to send for each good post
3. merit for very old posts e.g. by satoshi

1. That is about 70-80 % of these cases and should be strictly dealt with. I think those members have already spent their merit points (50 merit points are maximum I guess which one got by default).

2) There can be few of such cases but we need to carefully examine them as well. For instance, observing the login times of both accounts can give some idea whether it was intentional or just for testing the feature on a random account.

3) I do not think any one gave 50 merits points for his posts. If you are talking about those posts getting 50 points in total, that is allowed in my opinion.
62  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: March 03, 2018, 01:40:31 PM
I don't realy understood where i can see the sMerit, i mean merit points which i could sent?

You do not understand this manly because you do not care to read the previous responses to this thread carefully. You can see all merit points you can give here :https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit

As per your merit stats page, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=1170524, you already send one merit and thus you should be aware of this. I am saying this because at the time of sending merits, you see  a message showing how many Smerits you currently have to give to that post. For instance, if I click on +merit option currently, I see a message showing

" You have received a total of 5 merit. This is what determines your forum rank. You typically cannot lose this merit. You have 0 sendable merit (sMerit) which you can send to other people. There is no point in hoarding sMerit; keeping it yourself does not benefit you, and we reserve the right to decay unused sMerit in the future."

I think you might be having 2-3 sMerits currently depending on how many default merit points you got.

63  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another way to earn money in bitcoin on: March 03, 2018, 01:27:34 PM
Writing about bitcoin. Just by sharung your knowledge, you can earn bitcoin. But with this, it requires a lot of knowledge and expertise about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. The amount of bitcoin you get depends on how you write.

I do not see any such option on this forum. I guess you may be talking about the services related to bitcoin articles. Some people are offering such services where they are providing content writing services in return of bitcoins. I have not tried this and thus do not have any idea whether there is demand for such service in this forum. However, I have seen such articles being required by clients in different marketplaces.

Signature Campaigns. This is one of the profitable way to earn bitcoin. Bitcointalk forum includes a product campaign in the signature (as what am i doing). Some campaigns have post requirements which you need to obtain to earn. The amount of bitcoin you earn varies on your rank

Signature campaigns are a good opportunity for the members here to make money. I have got accepted in an campaigns and this is my first time.
64  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin As a subject in school on: March 03, 2018, 01:20:34 PM
In my opinion, it is not necessary to add subject like bitcoin because if you are interested about btc you can learned through searching in youtube, btc forum, ebooks, google search and etc. If subject like this will be added students will take for granted the other subjects because their focus will be in btc. Anyway some subject taught already in our school about finance, economics and investment.

You raised some good points here. Here is  my opinion about this:

1) Regarding people learning about bitcoins from sources like YouTube or blogs, you are right about this. Something like finance and accounts can be learned only with self interest. This has real life application and thus any interested person will himself find the ways to learn about it.

2) Regarding students ignoring other subjects, this might not be true. We all have some favorite subjects but that does not mean that we ignore other subjects. We are still aware of the fact that we have to pass all subjects so as to qualify for next class.
65  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Journey on: March 03, 2018, 01:14:18 PM
The year 2018 has set foot in the third month, and there has been no significant significant movement. But if we look at bitcoin journey in 2017 based on "Visual Capitalist":

- Price range $ 1000- $ 2000 for 138 Days (January- April) This range is filled with news about Chinese cracks down on bitcoin and Github project.
- Price range $ 2000 - $ 3000 for 23 days (June)
- Price range $ 3000- $ 4000 for 63 Days (in August) filled with bitcoin cash fork.
- Price range $ 4000- $ 5000 for 61 days (August - September) filled with the decision of China to shut down all bitcoin exchange, and Korea Bans ICO.
- Price range $ 5000 - $ 6000 for 10 days (end of October) filled with bitcoin gold fork.
- Price range $ 6000- $ 7000 for 13 days (November) filled with Vietnam news tire bitcoin and crypto payment.
- Price range $ 7000- $ 20k (November - early December) Bullish time.

When we refer to the data, everything looks good-well this year, and goes according to the track.

You know that $7000 to $20000 was mainly due to media coverage and it had both benefits and some disadvantages. Let us first discuss the reason how it happened. It touched marks like $10000 and $15000 during this period and every time those marks were reached we saw more media coverage. That resulted in more investors coming to bitcoins and thus there was tremendous increase in  prices. After it reached the $20 K level, most of the big investors already withdraw their bitcoins. Now the average investor is buying but they cannot buy that much volume in short time.
66  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is "Cryptocurrency" Painting Bitcoin Black? on: March 03, 2018, 12:40:53 PM
Some time ago I've asked a similar question, you can read the discussion here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2547331

I personally think that "cryptocurrency" is not the best term from psychological point of view, since the "crypto" part doesn't not reflect the core principle of Bitcoin - decentralized, open peer to peer network and the "currency" part ignores the fact that Bitcoin's protocol can be used for some other purposes like timestamping, smart contracts, etc.

Personally I like this term "cryptocurrency" and it sounds appropriate to me. Also, it does not make any sense to change this term now as people have got used it. If we change the name now, it will cause a lot of confusion among the potential investors. People going to launch their alt coins may take a lesson from this though. They should plan the name accordingly considering its features and benefits.

Also, the name hardly matters. Most of the investors are concerned about the profit they are making with the crypto.
67  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do We Need Social Media Promotion on: March 03, 2018, 12:37:19 PM
Yes, we do need Social media for promotion. Statistic shows base on the United Nations recent estimates this month says that current world population is 7.6 billion and base on my research. You have more than 3 billion social media users around the globe. I see social media a best and easy to pass information to billions of people around the world.

We have to take into consideration various other factors while using the stats:

1) As you mentioned that about 3 billion social media users are there. As per the posts shared here, most of the women are not interested in bitcoins and thus we should exclude them from these stats. Now if we take half of them as females we are left with 1.5 billion. Among this 1.5 billion also I think only 20-30% are earning and thus saving enough to invest in bitcoins.

2) I think social media can be a good tool for promoting bitcoins in developing countries. But there also one should make use of emerging social networking websites.
68  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Philippines is starting to accept bitcoin. on: March 02, 2018, 09:06:52 AM
I would be really happy if such a thing is implemented in my country and even government starts using bitcoins for payments through its various departments. This will also bring a lot of transparency and end corruption. All the transactions made by a particular department will be easily traced to the wallet address assigned to that department. This will also ensure that all citizens here are able to invest in bitcoins without worrying about legal issues. This will help bitcoin grow as well by boosting its prices.
69  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: helping in the growth of cryptoworld on: March 02, 2018, 09:02:50 AM
Who can we help to make our cryptocommunity grow?

Here is what you can do to make cryptocommunity grow. Share your experience (both failure of success) with bitcoins on social networking websites. This will encourage your friends to invest in bitcoins and thus they will also start investing. As a result the demand for bitcoins will increase and prices will also keep rising. We can expect a situation where these social networking websites are filled with reviews from users. This will result in mass adoption worldwide as everyone is using such websites these days.
70  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: For how long will bitcoin exist on: March 02, 2018, 08:56:12 AM
i have been thinking bitcoin cannot last forever..............i need you guys opinion if what im thinking is right.

I think it is not going anywhere for next 40-50 years. Since I will not be alive after 50 years anyway, I need not worry about that. In fact, if it even survives for 10 years and you invest in 4-5 BTC during this time interval, you will have enough to retire and live a comfortable life. Even after 50 years we will have crypto in one form or another. We may see some new coin with lots of unique features destroying bitcoin. I guess my children will be dealing in those coins.
71  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Most cryptocurrencies will crash to zero on: March 02, 2018, 08:51:50 AM
Actually this is true, most tokens have no value but I think it will happen in the future not now. Most are in bubble, because majority of people buy them at the beginning without any success.

This will happen to coins which have no solid concept or marketing strategy. I see a lot of people trying to benefit from the popularity of bitcoins by launching their own coins. Some people might invest because of tempting advertisements but these coins will never get mass adoption. More of these coins will keep getting mined without any increase in demand and thus they will finally collapse. However, in case of bitcoins, I see a lot of growth possible. There are a lot of people who have not invested in bitcoins till now but are showing some sort of interest.
72  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hold out or sell Bitcoin? on: March 02, 2018, 08:49:14 AM
With the price starting to creep up again do you think it's a good time to start selling some of my investments or do you think it's worth holding on for a while longer?

We all know how temperamental the market can be but do you think this is just a short term spike?

Do not get disappointed with minor price drops. I am holding all my bitcoins for at least an from now. I think I will sell some at the level of $30000 or so. I know that we will not see dramatic increase in prices like that  happened past year but still 200% growth is possible in 8-10 months. I also do not have the time to keep tracking the prices and latest happenings related to bitcoins. So, most of my investment is for long term only. I have got used to these volatile prices.
73  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What does bitcoin need to improve? on: March 02, 2018, 08:46:25 AM
I want bitcoin to be legalize all around the world that people will have the opportunity to invest in this project that the lower class has the chance to improve their lives in it.

That is not the problem with bitcoins, it is because of some governments not being able to understand the concept of bitcoins. They think that most of the people are using it for illegal activities or it is some kind of ponzi scheme. There had been so many similar scam online that these governments fear lots of its citizens losing all their money in bitcoins as well. We as investors, should create proper awareness about bitcoins like how it works and what are its benefits. If we are able to create some interest in the mind of politicians, they might start learning about bitcoins.
74  Other / Meta / Re: List of Threads Giving Away Merits on: March 02, 2018, 08:38:35 AM
This system is pretty flawed if we need lists of threads giving away merit. If it was working as intended this type of thing would be unnecessary.

Good job though for putting this together. Sad it's needed at the moment.

Currently there is lot of competition because everyone is just focused on merits. Members will realize with time that it is going to take some time to rank up. Also, I think the senior members who have got more merit points bu default, do not have that much time to go through the posts of all members and choose some deserving ones. These threads are a good opportunity to at least get your posts read by them. One thing that I observed was that other members also award merits to quoted posts in these threads.
75  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: March 02, 2018, 08:32:10 AM
Hi, just checking out how will we contact or ask you to review our history for us to be a source of merit? Thanks a lot.

You cannot become  a merit source. This is a position that comes with a lot of responsibility and thus you need to be an established member here to apply for this. Admin has not defined any fixed criteria for being this established member but I think he meant that the profile should be at least an year old and should have made some quality contribution here. You can work on both aspects and apply later. To apply, for this a member has to quote 10 posts from the forum (of other members)  that he thinks have not got sufficient merits.
76  Other / Meta / Re: Merit to your own post on: March 02, 2018, 08:24:28 AM
Hi seems like you could click the +merit in your post .
So my question is ,Is it okay to give merit to yourself to rank up your account?
Any idea or thought about it I just fund out about it recently and I don't have sMerit to send for myself so I haven't even tried it out yet.

That option is visible but it will not work. And there is no need of such a question if you have some common sense. Suppose, there is a system where you the winner is selected based on number of votes given. If all participants starts voting for themselves (submitting votes from different account), will we get a deserving winner ? For this merit system to work effectively, we cannot allow sending merit to own posts. This will cause a lot of problems. New members will start spending all their merits on own accounts, just making the this system useless.
77  Other / Meta / Re: Newbies are struggling to level up their account on: March 02, 2018, 08:20:48 AM
That's absolutely right, I'm a Jr. Member now. But still I feel like I'm a newbie. I believe I'm a regular member but I haven't got any merit yet. I'm not sure where I stand about this merit system. I hope things go well for me. Best wishes for myself.  Grin Roll Eyes

I am also a junior member but have got some merits for my posts. I am very much satisfied with m performance here as I am not that much active on this forum. You can also earn merits provided you are active here. By active I mean not only posting here frequently, reading the posts of other members (especially those of members who are getting lot of merits). You will get a lot of information regarding the forum rules and bitcoins in general. You can use that knowledge while making future replies. This will increase your chances of getting merits here.
78  Other / Meta / Re: Merit stats & all transactions more than 40 Merits on: March 02, 2018, 08:15:29 AM
The users didn't give 50 merit because it might be questionable in the sight of many. Merit so far is always the issue to the concern participants but not to those who aren't.

We have to consider a lot of aspects before punishing those members. First is the members who did it one or two days after the merit system might be testing this function. They might not have understood that merits are limited and thus one should not give more than 5 merits per post. Another thing to consider here is that some genuine posts might be deserving. For instance, the official thread regarding merit system received a lot of merits from different members. But it deserves those merits as all members are affected by that decision.
79  Other / Meta / Re: Activity Update Times on: February 27, 2018, 05:58:41 PM
I’d like to add that ranks aren’t updated at the exact time specified in the spreadsheet. For me, there has been a delay of something like two or three days. My guess is that it takes time to check all accounts and that the oldest accounts go first (I only joined late last year).

I do not think this is true. Can I senior member please confirm this? I have seen delay in this being updated but never 2-3 days. It takes maximum 1 hour. However, I have not observed it much carefully so cannot comment with confidence.

Also, as per the spreadsheet added, there should be an activity update today. I will reach the activity for member but still have to complete the merits required. Trying hard to learn from senior members and improve my contributions.
