141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GRA] Grain - New PoW/PoS coin | Fast, secure | Version 1.2 Released! on: December 31, 2013, 09:53:29 AM
hi all,

i hope someone wants to help me.
i would like to get mining grain again but my wallet cant sync. i have enough connections and the green bar in the bottom shows up with approx. 16000 blocks to go. but it stays at that number and when i start up later i have more blocks to go.
i do not know this problem from any other wallet.

i run the old version of the wallet, the new one says ''unable to load block.dat'' or something like that.

so maybee i need the new wallet? but do not know how to get it working,
or is there something else i could be doing wrong?

thanks for the help.

Remove everything from your User\Appdata\Roaming\Grain folder except wallet.dat and grain.conf if you have a conf file there. Then start 1.2 and it should start working. Make sure you make a copy of wallet.dat so you wont lose it incase something goes wrong.

^ this, and if still problem, search this thread for "addnode" and try repairwallet command in console.

Ok, change of plan, i am possibly gonna be purchasing http://www.digitalpromo.co.uk/amd-fx8320-8core-35ghz-socket-am3-16mb-cache-retail-boxed-processor-p-6962.html and http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-GDDR5-Retail-Pci-E-Graphics/dp/B00FOQZZAK/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1388469555&sr=1-1&keywords=280x. I am hoping to be cpu coin mining from 6 of the 8 cores, (may do 7 cores), and also gpu mining as well. What sort of k/h rate will i be looking at, because i cannot make heads nor tails of the hardware wiki page (identical model numbers, same core clock and mem clock yield different k/h rates).

Thanks in advance

MEPH

you will be around 710-740 / 280x depending how good it is, if your lucky, higher. sapphire card should do 720+ with same settings u see on that hardware wiki. TC 8192 or 11200 works best for me.

Thanks for the reply, any idea what i should be pulling in for the cpu ?

MEPH

no idea whatsoever. best guess 40. that is based on 0 experience and is completely a guess based on how much my NVidia/i5 setup changes w cpu on while scrypt mining. cpu mining may not even be measured in KH/s, I wouldn't know. gl  Cheesy

I'm more than happy for Mooncoin to distract other miners away from Earthcoin for a while. One of these has a future and it certainly isn't Mooncoin.

this

I have chunk of day 1 eac, I keep FOREVERRRRRR

EAC to the moon!

plz don't take directions from doge or mooncoin, they don't know the way.

so the moon is located @ approximately 8 satoshis.. and it takes 12 hours to get there via scrypt alt.

this what I been saying!! diff going super high!!

I think that the thing counting time since last block is having a max value or size of PoS blocks it can ignore. ie

after x PoS blocks in a row it starts believing they are PoW

or perhaps it is confused when there are PoS and PoW in the same blocks.?

either there is a variable somewhere which is entered wrong or there is an overflow error occurring during PoS generation.

it may be that certain PoS blocks are not being read as valid data and are being treated as PoW by default,

ie code says "check for PoS or PoW" returns "hmm this doesn't look like PoS, must be a PoW block"
147  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GRA] Grain - New PoW/PoS coin | Fast, secure | Version 1.2 Released! on: December 31, 2013, 04:10:35 AM
was there ever an answer on the PoS difficulties counting towards the PoW difficulties? or if PoS blocks were replacing PoW blocks?

now that there is some data to look at bosian is looking into it.

not sure when we should expect any info on it, as everything seems to be working right now, it appears the problem only happens sometimes. may be difficult to track down the cause, or it may be that everything is functioning right and somehow the diff is sposed to go that high sometimes...? anyways bosian will figure it out and let us know, or later on it will happen again and maybe some cause can be established.

Can I have a question ?

While mining why the difficulty has been changing continuously from 0 ~ 8, and keep looping, my hash rate is around 650k. But,it has been stabled today.

this is something being looked at and see if it is natural or otherwise a problem.
149  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GRA] Grain - New PoW/PoS coin | Fast, secure | Version 1.2 Released! on: December 31, 2013, 03:04:02 AM
I donnt understand, on the blocks hes saying, why is the tx so huge?

is 192 million coins the total amount generated so far? it must be more than that...

I don't think there is anything weird going on I just want to learn what is happening.

is it a transfer that is huge or something to do with PoS generation?
150  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ALT Coins make developers a lot of money? on: December 31, 2013, 02:48:12 AM

I keep reading that launching an ALT coin makes the developer a lot of money. If everyone wants new coins not be pre-mined, how does the developer make money?

I believe premining .01% to .90% is ok in order for the devs to be compensated for their efforts. Even if it's just a novelty coin with not much new to offer.

I would like to hear your opinion.

it depends on the coin parameters aswell. ie how long will all coins be generated, when rewards halve.

1% premine is a lot different if only 5% of total coins will be produce in the first year, vs 90% for example.

further the devs can make money by paying for or otherwise getting hashpower to mine early like everyone else can.

and they can also employ some tricks to increase the probability of getting a big instamine going on.

usually though its pretty obvious when this happens and everyone knows what is up.

instamine also depend on coin settings, coin can be set up to allow a period of very fast mining,

so that is how they can also make money, even without premine

Has anyone had issues with the wallet just not syncing after hours and hours? I had the wallet closed for a couple days, reopened, and it will not get past 19693 blocks remaining (that number increases as time goes on). I've closed, reopened, downloaded the newest wallet version... nothing...
I've never had this happen with any wallet ever, so, just wondering if anyone else has had issues like that? Stuck synchronizing on a block?

its much better for our early miners this way, I think eventually more miners will come. its a good time to be mining GRA.
156  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GRA] Grain - New PoW/PoS coin | Fast, secure | Version 1.2 Released! on: December 30, 2013, 09:57:58 PM
just got me a PoW soloing seems ok

Works fine for me too. Jollyburner nice job to extract the values... I usually check the total PoW blocks on a day or two interval, because you should have short term's variation. Let's maybe wait a bit for the other blockexplorer to be fixed, then we can count those easily.

For now, the mining, transaction, pos generation etc all work fine.

ok maybe this is just what happens sometime?? why would diff go way up if no one extra is mining it? is it maybe random variance from some very close blocks? I don't see those either..
157  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GRA] Grain - New PoW/PoS coin | Fast, secure | Version 1.2 Released! on: December 30, 2013, 09:56:38 PM
I think it is ok, it just wasn't ok yesterday. you can see there should be many more blocks during this time I show above, from lastnite.

3 hours should be ~ 360 blocks, there are ~40, or 10% of what should come.

now if this happen sometimes, then fixes itself, its really not a big deal. it just means that sometimes diff will go up and less blocks come out. as long as PoW doesn't break completely, were good.

my concern is that it is a sign of a problem that could get worse, and just want to make sure bosian is aware of it. as of right now everything seems fine to continue mining.

if whoever make the block crawler, or if there is a way for me to get the whole blockchain list of this data, I can easily manipulate this data in excel to produce a list like this. this way I just keep clicking next block and paste into excel, take forever

if u look from time

Block Time: December 29, 2013, 20:07:58

Block Time: December 29, 2013, 22:01:21

2 hours should be ~ 240 blocks? there are maybe 30-40 PoW blocks in this time. plz let me know If this is correct, because I don't understand why this would happen if working correctly,

most are PoS blocks. 30 sec is only for PoW blocks.

I agree that we need a block explorer like before which shows multi-blocks in one page ans show PoW/PoS, I PM'ed programmer a couple of times asking him to fix the old explorer, but I did not get a reply from him. He's probably busy now as it is holiday season... hope he'll fix it soon so you can see clearly which is PoS which is PoW. Now you can do this too, but you need to do it one by one, with the block crawler we have, which is cumbersome.

done, here look at this, 3 hours period only ~ 40 PoW blocks, this is all the PoW blocks from this time period, this is why I think its a problem.
