1  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Can facebook change the way you vote ?. on: May 09, 2018, 08:04:23 AM
YES! 100%

why?

confirmation bias. The algorithms are set up to only show you what you want to see limiting your exposure to alternative view points. This in no way promotes free speech or democratic thinking
2  Economy / Economics / Bubbles on: May 09, 2018, 08:00:58 AM
Here is a brief breakdown of some of the more famous bubbles in history.

the dutch tulip bubble (1630, first ever recorded)
the south sea bubble (1720)
Japan stock/real estate bubble (1990)
.COM bubble (2002)
USA housing bubble (2008)

Where is the next bubble going to appear. I know the bond market is in a 100 plus bubble and this is where im placing my bets.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Caused the Boom in Bitcoin on: May 09, 2018, 07:56:18 AM
I've been watching and monitoring bitcoin for close to 3 or 4 years and I can say this year has been the best year for the crypto and all the investors in the market, firstly, the coin witnessed unpredicted increase in value this year more than any other year before.

I know that the value is based on the principle of demand and supply but I'd like to know what else contributed to the price value and the popularity bitcoin has right now globally.

This years boom I think was down to the narrative that institutional investors were coming in, namely the CME and CBOE futures. I think people wanted to front run their entrance. Will be nice to see what triggers the next one

4  Economy / Economics / Re: why do people agree to pay taxes? on: May 08, 2018, 10:06:57 PM
why is it ok for a group of people calling themselves the government to force everyone to buy their services?
if enough armed people refused to pay and told the government to go fuck itself there is nothing they could do.

I do think some collective collection of funds to pay for basic services is a good idea. Its when governments are using that money to spend on bombs that I have a problem
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Monero a Good Investment? on: May 08, 2018, 10:04:46 PM
This might be an unpopular opinion but I think over the long term the coins that will be targeted most will be these privacy coins. They do have a use case but Im not sure governments will allow them. Its either Japan or South Korea that are banning them off exchanges
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What will be the market cap in the end of 2018? on: May 08, 2018, 08:43:31 AM
If all be ok, waiting 2-3 trillions of USD by the end of the year 30-40 000 BTC, 4-5 000  ETH. Waiting for EU decision about crypto. If they will open gates for big money this can be pessimistic forecast Grin

I love your optimism haha 2-3 trillion as a pessimistic guess but I hear what you are saying. If institutional money starts to really flow then its not too much of a long shot to consider the cap reaching those figures. Especially considering we were at the 800b level around Christmas/ New Year. Do you not think we will need so big macro developments in terms of adoption to see that level growth or do you think the momentum of regulatory clarity alone will be enough to push the market to those levels?
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Arbitrage trading on: May 07, 2018, 12:15:49 PM
I'm new in crypto trading and I've been making some research on Arbitrage trading. My question is does this kind trading really work and what coins can be traded profitably using this system. Thanks in advance for your responses.

I think its a risky strategy for retail investors because of the volatility! Its very common within traditional markets but the difference here is the spread in prices in crypto is vastly superior for successfully executing an arbitrage trade. I think aggregated liquidity platforms will go along way to reducing this spread. I would say be very careful. Also choose coins with very fast settlement rates. Only issue with this is they those coins usually have very little liquidity!
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How can we stop the “Pump and dump” campaigns? on: May 07, 2018, 12:11:50 PM
This may go against everything most people want within this space but I think some regulatory oversight is the only thing that can bring an end to these types of schemes. I think SRO's can only do so much, the enforcing of the law is the only real action that can deter potential "pump and dumpers"
9  Economy / Economics / Re: 16 Cryptocurrency Exchanges Get Approval to Launch in Venezuela on: May 02, 2018, 10:42:55 AM
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has reportedly approved the ‎registration of 16 cryptocurrency exchanges in the country, months after ‎introducing regulations for ‎the emerging space.
Maduro hopes that these exchanges will start listing Petro soon, but ‎none of them did confirm the inclusion.
https://www.financemagnates.com/cryptocurrency/news/16-cryptocurrency-exchanges-get-approval-launch-venezuela

What implications can this step have on Venezuelan economy being the economy with highest inflation rate and simultaneously what does this mean to cryptocurrency world wide?

Apparently they had over 100 applications as well which is pretty incredible. I this goes to show that as long as we have an open internet there will always be a place to buy crypto simply because of the game theory coming into play!
10  Other / Meta / Re: How about KYC on bitcointalk? on: May 02, 2018, 10:39:45 AM
Do you think requiring KYC here in bitcointalk a good idea? It'll prevent scammers from entering our forum plus this will also prevent Alt accounts which commonly makes a lot of spams.

No, i don't like the idear... What if the database get hacked again? The hacker would have doxxable materials on 1000's of crypto enthousiasts... Some 3 letter agencies would dream about this opportunity, as would several gangs that would now be able to come to our houses and beat up our familys untill we fork over our private keys...

Bitcoin is about freedom, this includes the freedom to remain anonymous if you wish so (for example, the forum's founder is still completely anonymous).
Also, bitcointalk is a community forum, so the term 'Customer' doesn't apply here (imho).

I wonder if we could figure a way of putting a forum on the blockchain and decentralising the data held. Considering you said this has been hacked before. I do think there would be a huge spike in quality of material on here. You do find quite allot on non comments you have to trawl through to get to the hidden gems.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alternative to Ethereum? Or recommend me a blockchain with smart contracts on: May 02, 2018, 10:36:37 AM
Obviously I am a crypto currency newbie and I am looking for the right blockchain tech for a project. Now I have done some reading and what I am looking for is something like Ethereum.

1) Smart contracts
2) Low transaction fees
3) suited for micro transactions

What would be helpful if I can use Java as the programming language. Ethereum ticks point 1 but its transaction fees are too high. I am looking for really low fees as volume will be higher.

NEM (4000tps)
LISK
WAVES
NEO. (1000tps)
STELLAR
IOTA (one day). (14000tps)
OMG

Im not 100% sure the transactions per second for the ones I missed out but these all fit your criteria
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Tron a top 10 crypto again! Will it stay that way? Rise more? on: May 02, 2018, 10:29:57 AM
I can see it staying there in the short to medium term. They have what allot of companies are lacking at the moment and the is a really good marketing team. The emphasis on good tech is warranted but we see a whole host of amazing teams with amazing tech getting drowned out by certain coins with no product, and this is all due to good marketing. Justin Son will announce and announcement to and announcement about an announcement he may or may not make the next month haha and it seems to work
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What do you think about Stellar (XLM)? on: April 28, 2018, 09:44:25 PM
I think they have been created by the original founder of ripple which can only be a good thing if you look at the success ripple has went on to have. Stellar for me is miles better because it promises almost the same transaction times whilst being decentralised unlike ripple. They also aim to bank the unbanked which is a noble challenge
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the options for the future? on: April 28, 2018, 09:42:15 PM
Whatever the banksters or nouvea riche may do, it cannot stop the growth of crypto. This is just the beginning, they cannot beatit so they will be forced to join in crypto investment.

Yep, I don't agree with the original point that crypto has already been breached and even if it had, shutting the whole thing down is impossible. Look at the rise in decentralised exchanges since the turn of the year. This is just the start so if governments want to come down even harder then all they will do is push it further underground out of of sight which cant be good for them. You would rather have your enemy in your sights
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin dominance is it the END ? on: April 22, 2018, 07:08:34 PM
The BTC dominance is always in a state of flux. I for one cant see BTC's dominance being reversed permanently. We see the dominance go in waves. I think alts have been very quiet over the last few months and the only progress that we saw come from bitcoin however as we have all seen, we are having a mini alt season. This I don't think is new money, Its more likely to be money that has been waiting on the sideline for the last few weeks waiting for any sign of strength to jump back into the alts. We are seeing a pattern of bitcoin jumping and then alts catch up and following btcs recent rise of 30% from the lows, alts again have followed suit so I think people are beginning to clock onto this trend. Long term I don't think btcs dominance is going to drop
16  Economy / Economics / Re: Do you agree? on: April 19, 2018, 12:40:53 PM
it will have an effect that is for sure. Im not sure this will be the trigger to move us into a new bull market though. I would wait for more conformation first to be honest. But the average retail investor will not be looking at these tax dates, its the huge investors that will be most effected so it could have a noticeable effect
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: HOW TO KEEP YOUR BITCOIN SAFE AND SECURE on: April 18, 2018, 03:35:51 PM
Andreas antonopolos has a great video explaining industry level standards of storing crypto. Very interesting. You would be surprised to know mobile devices (android, ios) with encryption turned on are some of the safest devices to store them on. Never a windows laptop though!
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: I'm a newbie. I want to know how to mining bitcoin on: April 18, 2018, 03:33:05 PM
Mining in the traditional sense isn't too profitable really. The industry is getting quite centralised and this is squeezing the average miner out. You can however join a pool which has a decent rate of return. (nothing crazy) A pool is a bunch of people world wide pooling together their CPU power into one mining address and any profits taken will be distributed. the way they get distributed depends on the type of pool you join.
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to kill Bitcoin? on: April 17, 2018, 06:54:28 PM
People tout quantum computing as a BTC killer but I disagree because its not like q computing will pop up out of the blue, this is a world changing technology that we will know is coming before it arrives. I think the bribery of miners by governments is the biggest danger. At the end of the day it was a currency that was the final piece to the puzzle when it come to bitcoin, basically money so what is stopping other entities offering more money to miners and where is the past evidence that miners are loyal to bitcoin? I think the majority are loyal to the $$$$$$$
